I came over to New Zealand to meet my son, who was staying for nearly six months on the other side of the world. Our intension is, to travel now for 4 weeks through this fantastic land and visiting a lot of fine spots on both islands.
Met in Auckland, our first trip led us to the Far North with some spectacular locations. It was a lot of driving, but we think, it was worth the result.
The second part of our travelling route led us to the south. Going via Hamilton with some fine locations, Hobbiton was an absolutely must of our "unexpected journey" . Went then to Tauranga with a hard upclimb to Mt. Maunganui, visited Rotorua to see lot of vulcanic activities, have had a lot of fun with Zorbing and Claybird shooting and drove then to Taupa, to doing Skydiving.
Napier with it's beautiful Art Deco district and the great Aquarium was the next stop.
Final destination on the North Island was Wellington, were we visited some great places and met some friends from Germany.
After crossing Cook Strait now we followed the east side of the southern island down to the most southern point of New Zealand.
Blenheim with its wine yards, fantastic dolphin watching in Kaikoura, the story of earthquake in Christchurch, following the famous coastline down to Dunedin with its beautiful and interesting places as well as the nice city of Invercargill were our main spots on this part of our journey.
Being in the South, the way now went up on the west coast back to the north. Crossing the Fjordland with its famous landscapes we've reached Te Anau to do a private flight over Milford Sound, then spend in Queenstown some time with the most spectacular activities ever done (Canyon jumping and Shotover canyon jetriding were some unforgetable experiences!) the way led us to the glaciers, up to the nice town of Westport and further to Abel Tasman Park to doing an unbelievable hike trough the park and an outstanding kayak tour with seal and bird watching.
Nelson, Picton; Cook Strait is waiting again for us.
Of course, even if was is not our main activity during this holidays, we were looking for some caches, which are laying beside our route.
Best greetings from Germany.

Unfortunately this cache was disabled, but we were nearby on our great kayaktour.

I found this cache while kayaking out to fisherman's & adele islands today. found quickly, although didn't sign log as I forgot my pen. tftc.
Thanks to Kissala we found this cache nice and easy! stopped off here for the night on a sailing trip. Cache was precariously placed and with no magnet I hope this one survives a few storms. replaced as found but other may want to bring a magnet to this is cache! TFTC
We flew over 20500 kilometers to get to New Zealand. [^] There in Queenstown we started our magnificent and unforgettable journey along the whole NZ. First we drove through south island and then the north island to Auckland. Altogether over 3000 kilometers by car and so many glorious and beautiful views, animals and plants we saw. [^] We fell in love with the country for life. Unfortunately we had only three weeks to spend for our holidays, but we really hope, we’ll be back.
We had written to the owner many times and suggested also that we could even renew this cache when we come to this area. Got no answer though, so we paddled to this island for Marahau and put the new cache container to the co-ordinates to the right place in GZ. We have paddled to over 200 other islands all over the world, so these are very special for us. [^] Then we had informed the cache owner again and asked, if this is ok for us also to mark this found. Well, in Finland we have saying which says "silence means assent", so it should mean, now we have the right to log this. So, there is the new cache container with all the requirements: logbook, minigrip plastic bag and silica bag. This paddling trip was very great, because the weather was sunny, warm and we saw dolphins and seals during it. Thanks for showing us this nice island and very many greetings from Finland.

This cache was removed by "Just Floundering" and it won't be replaced until summer.
4.00pm. Out on an environmental education trip with Project Janszoon for the day. Called in to locate cache. Clearly no longer by sign. Instead a plastic bag with couple of log entries on scrap of paper inside. Conscious of the plan to eradicate all plastic bags from the waters of Golden Bay I felt I had no alternative but to remove the plastic bag. So now there is no cache. Owner needs to visit to replace. Great spot for a cache.

Took the kayak for a nice 4 hour paddle through Abel Tasman. We first stopped at Fishermans Island. Afterwards we came here for a quick stop... Unfortunately I couldn't find this Cache.
I think it might be gone as I looked behind the sign several times!

Looks like no one has been here for quite a while. The box was rosty and hardly could be opend, the logbook wet and smelly. Put it all a bit in the sun to dry...

For the sake of sanity we set off with sonia26642 for a crazy geocaching trip, aiming to cache until we drop. The main destination was Nelson and the ‘surrounding’ area, but then we ended up covering a few miles in three northernmost regions, plus a few in Canterbury. We were signing/stamping the log as 'Team Polak' or ‘TP’ for the two of us on this trip to save logbook space. We found a lot of different caches, city ones, road side, park side, up a hill and on an island, and we enjoyed every single one of them. It was good to be a professional thingfinder for a few days!
Grabone special for freedom kayak hire? How cool is that, and great timing too! This gave us a good few hours fun, and a chance to grab a couple island caches
We had great fun and are grateful to all CO’s who placed caches for us to find, and help restore our sanity before returning to our other non-geocaching lives!!

This was one of the most epic weeks ever, and definitely my most epic caching week ever.
Me and mum headed up on a holiday north to Nelson and very wider surrounds. In total during the trip, we found almost 500 caches! (470 odd I think, but final results are yet to be in! ) We covered about 3000 odd km I think too. Crazy! And had our absolute best caching day ever too at 160 found. Spend 9 days travelling, caching, and having the best time ever!!
So sorry about not so epic logs, as otherwise this would probably take me the rest of my life to log, especially with two big events to organise coming up! Eeek!!
A couple of days before leaving, I had spotted a grabone voucher for kayak hire here! Before committing of course - had to check if there were any caches that would make it worth it - and sure enough, yes there was!
This one lso took a while, and cache is totally dreched! Returned so that it hopefully drips out a bit.
Consec caching day # 700

Love the birdsong in this area. You are doing a fantastic job Birdsong Trust. Also enjoyed the seal pups frolicking in the shallows and the nice kayak to get there.
Took a bit of looking phone compass constantly out of wack on island. Needs new paper and plastic bag... didnt have any on me at the time.
Last day of our kayak trip from Tata beach to Marahau. Quite strong wind when approaching the island and even stronger when leaving.
On the first day of our Able Tasman tour we took the opportunity to visit this cache shortly after we left the kayak base. Thank you for showing us this beautiful place. We even managed to see some seals on the north end of the island!
Found it. Beautiful day for a boat ride. Awesome. However the cache is wet and I had no spare paper to put in for a new log. Next visitor take some paper and a pen - to wet to write today.
Still a perfect spot, TFTC

A lovely island with lots of bird life singing different songs. We spent a while searching for this cache but when standing in just the right spot it is easily seen. It was a great day to be out kayaking and couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a terrain 5 cache.
Thanks for the cache, which I found during my journey through amazing NZL. We spent a great day with a kajak here. Kind regards.
This one was great fun it was awsome riding in a boat to get this thankyou so much BareKiwi.com
Been wanting to get out to this one for a long time but there was always something already planned or the weather closing in on the day we had planned. Planned this one with a couple of geocaching friends a couple of weeks ago and had fingers crossed for it to fall into this place this time. Woke up this am and the forecast held true so it was all on. Tides not the best for us today but no major problem with a small boat . Headed out and for some reason the motor would cut out but restart with no problem. Arrived to find plenty of people around GZ area but they seamed to pay little attention to us so continued our search until Niteowlnz finally spotted the cache . A quick grab was made by the youngest of our group and after a quick signing he also did the honours of returning the cache to it's hide (Thanks Flying Pheonix). A great day and glad to have a nother oppotunity to return to this island TFTC
Nice one!! I was very grateful for the offer of aquatic transport from stretch0 and niteowlnz as I have now waterborne transport of my own. Today was the day and to a landlubber like me the weather looked perfect. Met up at Marahau and headed out on the water to our first objective, this cache. An interesting trip across as the outboard motor decided it had a mind of its own. it got us there in the end and after a shortish search the cache was spotted, retrieved, signed and returned. My first time on this island so very cool. TFTC, Biggles.
Perfect day - lots of sun not to much wind - great company ( Biggles, Flying Phoenix and Stretch0) and caches to find - unfortunately our outboard wasn't feeling the same way !!! We made it to the island and it was quite crowded but managed to wander round without anyone paying to much attention to us - scratched our heads a little then I happened to stand in the right spot and the cache was seen - cache retrieved and signed by all then returned to its hiding spot. Thanks for bringing us back out here - one day we may have time to explore it more thanks for the cache
My 316th cache.
Thanks for showing me that island. Had much fun to put my kayak over there.

Cool thx and greetings from Hamburg Germany - while making a Kajak Tour with Hanna - it was a big day!
Found with the help of the bosses kids.Came here on a christmas do. There were seals in the bay just before the cache.Arrived here on a yacht on way back got up to a top speed of 25kmp.
Stopped on this beach for lunch on our way home from a lovely overnight paddle in the park. As we landed I realised that there was a cache nearby. Didnt take long to find then able to enjoy my lunch. Thanks
