Another wet log - made a mark.Think this series could do with a maintenance visit
It's December, and to help me achieve one of my Geocaching goals I need to log 300+ caches this month, which means an average of ten a day. I started off well, but had a glitch in the middle which has left me behind my target. Today I was aiming for 30 finds (I got 28) by walking up here. I had ascended the Te Au Track from Huia Street, and been to the left as far as I could go. Now I was back and heading off to the right. The rain was consistent for most of this section, but still light and the tree cover kept most of it off me. Best of all the cloud stayed high which meant visibility wasn't a problem, just the trail being a little slippery was all I had to be wary of.---Thanks to tmann421 for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge
Quick find. Such an awesome track on a beautiful day. Log book pretty wet but signable. TFTC
Great to have these as an incentive to get the children up here! Log book is a bit damp, but easy to find even though I suspect the tree had changed slightly since the cache was placed
A beautiful morning for a hike up Hemi Matenga, but now the weather is packing it in! Quick find at GZ. All good in cache, tftc!
There’s a split tree right at GZ. Eventually found the cache downside up a few metres away. Returned it to hinted spot and added rocks. Cheers tmann421!
Great way to spend Mother’s Day walking the track. Log sopping wet so photo record instead!
Coordinates absolutely spot on here. This is a beautiful piece of bush which had half a dozen tui playing chase around the GZ. This is why I love forest caches. Cache dry inside. TNLNSL TFTC
Nice and dry hide- unlike me now! Weather packed it in a bit so might change plans a bit. Great find- many thanks
Labour Day - the perfect time to do a power trail. My first in a very long time. I've already done the Parata Track from Tui Cres to the lookout (and the Memorial Seat), so today I was completing the loop by doing the climb from Huia St and the full ridge. It was a total of 20 caches - and by some miracle I managed to find every single one of them! It was a 10km walk with a total of 1000m of climbing, but it was a straight forward walk. Many of the caches were instant finds thanks to the accurate coordinates very detailed hints.
(10/20) Another quick and easy find - thanks tmann421

Decided to spent some time around Otaki and Waikanae picking up some caches. Finished the drive by ones and now time to stretch the legs on this loop walk. A good climb up and great views at the top. Managed 22 in total. Will need to return for the ones along the far ridge top.
Enjoyed the level of hides. Often took a few minutes but the hint was always specific enough to give me hope and continue looking.
No problems finding this one.
Thanks tmann for the challenge and the smileys.

Back down here visiting family and these have tempted me for too long. I thought I should duck up the hill and grab a few on the way. We'll see how far I get today.

Mission of a walk today, only had time to grab a few caches. Will return to get the rest. Thanks for the cache.
The more of this series I find the more I appreciate the work put in by the cache owner! These are all in wonderful condition and well thought out. Hints are clear and descriptive making the finds very achievable
Thanks tmann421 for all your work
Thanks tmann421 for all your work
once again I was looking in the wrong direction, didn't take too long to find the correct spot though, nice dry cache with some interesting items
Quick and easy find. Found with TwigNZ. Signed the log as "T & T" Thanks for the cache
I had been eyeing a few trails to do on the weekends I have my son and decided to go hard out today to see how many caches we could do in and around the Hemi Matenga Reserve an afternoon. We were lucky enough to be blessed with reasonable weather, when the forecast had been for showers, so that definitely helped us to get a great result.
I apologise in advance for the generic log, but there was no way I would have been able to write up each Cache as I went along, so am logging them now in bulk (sort of)
After all that climbing to reach the ridge, we were really enjoying the walk along the relative flat track at this point. My calves were quite grateful too!
My GPS was having a few issues in the thick of the bush, and consequently I initially overshot GZ. But luckily for me, my trusty mini-me found a likely location in a different tree, after which it was a quick find and retrieval.
Signed the log as "T & T" on behalf of myself and my son (Thatweirdguy04), and we were on our way again.
Thanks for the cache.

Quick find; thanks for telling me of this walk, lovely bush, no views as it's in whiteout, but a great Sunday walk.
Enjoying the loop walk today with plenty of time to find caches. Cache all good. TFTC
over shot this one we tried here but not quite enough, second sweep we soon had it in hand, thanks for the placement
I had to look the other way to see the orange marker!
Quick find even before seeing that orange.
All good at GZ. thanks for another smilie

With the GPS struggling a bit in the forest it took me a few moments to find this. It turns out if traversing the track the other way it would have been almost obvious and I made sure the cache was not immediately visible when approaching from that direction as re-hiding turned out to be slightly more work than expected. TFTC.
That's a novel way to keep the logbook dry!! Another nice cache.

Was a nice and easy find. Even a few pink triangles around. I wonder where those lead....
As I approached, I spotted something that perfectly fitted the first part of the hint. I soon found the nicely hidden cache.
Found on tramping club Sunday trip with 9 others to help us. We made it a "round trip" starting at the Huia Street entrance, walking through the leafy streets to Tui Street, through the Kohekohe Walk, over the Te Au Route, continuing north as far as the "Homer Tree" before returning and dropping down to the cars. An easy walk on a good track, the weather was perfect and the views were stupendous. TFTC
Wandering Dragons, John the Strong and I decided to take a day out to go grab these caches.. We entered from the Huia Street entrance and glad we did. Very steep going up, but once we finished panting at the top the rest was much easier. All caches easily found and the GeoHounds loved the walk. Pity there were only two real spots for views, but the forest walk in itself was fantastic if not a bit muddy in some spots. Trailed off on the link path at the top, but because the wife had instructed me to be home by 5pm, we didn;t have time to finish all the ones along the third leg. Thanks for the caches, trail and walk. Feeling pretty good after the walk, and a tad bit stiff from the exercise.
The Wandering Dragons, Crystal Fairy and myself headed off today for a trek around Hemi Matenga Reserve. A very orange marker day. Thanks for the cache.
Cache # 3,242 - Went for a nice long walk with Crystal Fairy and John the Strong and two of our dogs today, on a very long planned trip around Hemi Matenga. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache and the series!
Found with TregearP during our first walk in the Hemi Matenga Reserve. Beautiful bush, views and bird life. A great loop track but we only managed the caches on one half as we were on limited time. We will be back!
All in good order, TNLNSL, TFTC.

A good day for a walk in the area, beautiful bush and the birdlife was lovely with hardly any other people out walking. TFTC
Ninalila and I decided to go for a walk in the bush not far from the place where we stay.
It w as a really nice discovery, great walk and beautiful view when we reached to lookout.
We had the chance to hear the deers roar
The caches were well maintained and easy to find thanks to the really good hints
We finished the walk at night but we found all the one we searched !
We logged with our team name : Lekiprokos
Thank you to the owner for the caches

fefe.adrien and I went into the bush to walk until the lookout. The view was very nice ! We could see the mountains of the South Island, then the sunset on Kapiti Island... Moreover we eard the roar of some deers !!
Finally we decided to make all the loop track, it took 4h including the research of boxes.
This serie is fun and pleasant, hints are very precise !! Many thanks because it helped a lot when satellite reception was not so good. Highly recommend this geocache serie !

Out for a long caching weekend with KiwiExplorer and JoshThePirate We did a lot of good caches, odd caches and some of them were just caches
But most important, we had a lot of fun and the weather was brilliant all the time! [^] Thanks for all the caches
and the next stop and another find

Two years ago I found caches on this track, and also ones up the other end on Ridgeline Track. I've been intending to do the six along the top on Te Au Route Track. Some time ago I had plans to do these today, and it was good to see some new caches published last week. Entered from Tui Crescent, and walked down to Huia Street. I found the steep downhill section easier on my legs this time. I had parked my bike at Huia Street entrance - so biked back to Tui Street entrance.
Had this one on my to-do list for spell February Challenge. Thanks tmann421 for the cache.

#7531. A good cloudy day to return to Waikanae to walk the other tracks in Hemi Matenga Memorial Park that we had not been to before. Started from the Huia Street entrance, we climbed up Te Au Track and turned north on the ridgeline and went to the end of that track. Walked back to Te Au Track and came down Parata Track and Kohekohe Track back to Tui Crescent. Came across quite a number of other walkers on the Te Au, Parata and Kohekohe Tracks on this public holiday. We did not see any one on the ridgeline track.
Looked like we had come from the edge of Reikorangi back to Waikanae at GZ. It was all quiet when we got there. Quick find. It was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Visited all the caches in the area today with just-Lookin and replaced the logbooks / logsheets.
Double bagged them or added a small log container and in a few cases added waterproof logs.
Should be good to go for a while!

What a great day! Perfect weather, a great series of caches and in the good company of tmann421 while on a maintenance run today. This is most certainly my favourite bush walk series.
Completed the northern side and heading south along the ridge line and heading down to collect the rest. Another nice quick find here.

We overshot this one at first but backtracked for a quick find. Thanks for the cache.
Found it! YAY TFTC, did the Parata Track then all the way over the ridge and down to Huia Street exit , awesome forest, and thanks so much for all the caches along the way, they were wonderfully inventive and descriptive and spurred us along the way
Nice quick find on this one - only stopping long enough to sign and replace.

Back for part two of the caches-along-the-ridge series. Weather a bit better this time, and now approaching from the south. This was the fourth of the six heading north. And once again we had the place to ourselves.
We noted that last visitors here were Streetwalker and Troodles in September.
Straightforward find. Retrieved the trackable that has been living here for a few months now.
Cache in order, log signed and then safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Managed to get a little lost en route as StreetWalker had gone ahead, and I started to follow the pink markers. When I couldn't see the next marker, yelled for SW to stop and find me, but he had put his headphones on and was listening to his radio, so didn't hear me. Took him a while to realise I wasn't following him, but eventually he returned and got me on the right path.

#6019. Needed the hint on this one too, though I shouldn't have (I'd checked the spot once and not found the cache despite it being a decent size). TFTC.
Quick find on the way out to the end of this string. Dropped off another TB as a reward for the next person who comes up here. TFTC !

After reaching the top of the hill, I was slowly moving down and finding another few caches The track is nice is too bad tha not so many people going this way.

Nice hint on this one, but even with it we had to do a bit of searching around- so many trees up here! Thanks.
I came up from the Huia Street entrance this afternoon. Which was a pretty steep climb compared to Hemi and I certainly needed a rest after getting to the top. I then did a trip to find this cache before retracing my steps and then heading North along the ridge. Cache was quickly found, all in good condition. SL TFTC
I don't usually like cut and paste / template logs but will make an exception for the odd power trail here and there. I decided to see how many of the caches up here I could get to this morning. Came up from the Huia St entrance. Actually think that that's so steep its probably easier / safer going up than down - well if you're a bit big and clumsy like me it is! A nice quick find here and a welcome excuse to stop. TFTC, Biggles.
we are slowing down again easy Found it about the numbers to day Cache # 1500 0 to go to get 1500 Got my 1500 cache a very big Thanks to all the owner of cache I have done and very big thank to tmann421 for putting all the caches on the Te Au Route track TFTC
Last one left to do up here...Boom...Smashed it out of the ball park today.
Home for a swim now.

These caches seem to be getting larger and larger as we go along...! Another simple find.
Easy find, watch you don't bang your head on the marker like my partner did. lol

Another great hint, which made for an effortless find - just the way we like them! The run up here is hard enough without having to worry about bad hints. TFTC

It's been a while since I spent some decent time in the bush. I'm glad I'm back. And there's caches to find! Thanks, Tmann421!
Had arrived at gz & spotted a dog running towards me so moved on past the cache & chatted to the owner of the dog for abit. A quick find & last of the day as realised not alot of daylight left. tftc
GPS finally came back on just before this one, & we realised we'd passed 4 caches, & missed the turn off to the left, which we had intended to do first. However, decided to keep on going in this direction since we were already heading that way.
GPS was still 'jumping' around, but after a little backwards & forwarding, we found the correct spot.
Left a pet rock - a hedgehog. TFTC

Four of us in this group walking the Hemi Matenga track, including Tramper Ted. The methodical hints provided were appreciated along the trail, which made for few delays in finding the caches, thanks tmann421.
The name really said it all!! Enabled a quick find before heading on into the bush. TFTC
Find #1243, our third find up here today - after a what-are-the-chances DNF on "Memorial Seat", only because the seat in question was at the time being used! So, we decided instead to push on - the track condition deteriorated slightly after the Memorial Seat turnoff, it looks as if most walkers stop there and then turn around. Another nice quick find on an appropriately-sized container, continuing the trend! Thanks tmann. SL TFTC.
Came here for a walk this morning with the aim of getting up to date with the new caches around here - the 12th for the day. A quick find - signed log, TFTC!
Got a phone call last night from fozzmiester just after I got home asking me if I was interested in going for a walk up to the Hemi Matenga Scenic Reserve and clean up the balance of the caches that were placed up here since I was here last up in the area. I thought to myself how could I resist since there was two reasons, there was two new caches that were up there and also since fozzmiester has being up there before this was going to make it a bit easier for me as I was going to have a guild with me that will make it a lot easier as fozzmiester has already done most of the track before.
Parking at the bottom on Tui Cresent we decided that this was a great spot to start the walk from, after a bit of a walk that seems to always take ages we finally arrived at the top of the reserve and got to the start of the Parata track. From the start of this track I soon realised that the walk to the first cache along this route that I hadnt done wasnt going to be too far away so it was making it a lot easier.
Arriving near GZ fozzmiester stood back and waited to I got to GZ and made me find the cache myself, thank goodness it wasnt too hard to find as I really didn't want to embarrass myself, what a nice spot for a cache, thanks for placing it up here and for bringing me back up here again for the lovely aerobic exercise. Now it is time to head for the next cache on this list of unfound caches, decided to rescue Jessie's Bug Travel Bug and move it on to a new home, TFTC LNSL (4424)

FTF 0755hrs. GPS was not in a hurry to settle down here so I used the hint for a quick find and the bonus of a blank log book to boot. Found as part of a very enjoyable morning ramble arouind the Hemi Matengi reserve in which I walked up the Parata track then along the ridge as far as GC3JGY2 - The View (Kapiti), before retracing my steps and descending via the Huia track and walking back to the car along the road. A beautiful location for a walk - thanks for bringing me here to enjoy it and I am looking foward to returning.
I discovered Jessie's Bug TB in here but it has not yet been logged in.
