Heading out with Mr Tessaboo to try snag a few more before our holidays end. We wanted a hike and having done Douglas and Mt Louisa we figured it was time to hit Castle Hill.

Contemplated the Tower of Terror but wussed out. Another day for that one.

Heading up the track this one was an easy find. Nice to see a few larger caches and check out the myriad of trinkets left behind.

The hike continues…

Met the MaDgcers at this cache. Was sitting at it waiting for them to go by when they had spotted the two rusting wrecks below the cache. They did ask if there was a cache where I was. Why else would anyone be sitting on a rock off track. Anyway, had a lover chat and exchanged caching stories. A great size cache was found and logged. Thanks for placing 2N's

Quick found, really nice cache! I'm quite surprised, that it's the first found of this cache after almost one year... Thanks for the cache.

Found while in Townsville to attend the Mega event.

I travelled up from Adelaide, taking a week or so so get here, meeting up with FeatherWaite to do some caching around the Cunnamulla area then continuing on to Barcaldine and Charters Towers.

While in Townsville I teamed up with Budgietas, Stainless-steel-rat and Gooseandegg on some days, including a day on Magnetic Island, and with Davidwazza at other times. When caching with Davidwazza, logbooks were signed DWEG1.

All in all it was a great week or so in Townsville, with plenty of great caches found.

Thanks 2N's (Adopted by RobS72) for the cache.

During the Easter long weekend, it was all about the Townsville Mega event! Highlights included a hike at Cape Pallarenda Conservation Peak, walks atop the local mountains of Mount Stuart, Castle Hill, and Mount Louisa, checking out a few shady spots along Ross River, sewer pipe / tunnel adventures, and a scuba dive to see the Museum of Underwater Art at John Brewer Reef. The Mega events themselves were fantastic: Gadget lab caches, GPS maze, trivia night, tree planting CITO, and Cal's Escape Room. There was also plenty of geocaching to be had, such as power trailing through the geoarts The Saint and the Book, and the collection of challenge caches at Bushland Beach mudflats. My view of Townsville had completely changed from my trip experience, and much kudos to the Cache Qld Townsville Mega Committee.

Following our visit north of Rowes Bay which included Pallarenda, we decided to spend the rest of the morning heading up to Castle Hill, hoping to use the current moderate temperature before the heat and humidity would set in the afternoon (or on another day). After making a stop halfway up, we then parked at the summit's lookout, and then admired the views of Townsville.

After descending down to Castle Hill, we wondered whether to continue our walk around the base, or take a quick detour to this cache. The ammo can name was too good of a thing to pass up, so we took a walk to this cache first. I actually found this section the most interesting, as we passed by a mountain bike in a tree (was this a stolen bike, or a strategically left bike?), and then a few car wrecks in the gulley. We then proceeded to the cache, where we found the cache largely uncovered and exposed. Perhaps the lack of foot traffic around here has helped to preserve this cache. The cache container and logbook were in good shape, and it was nice to have found this cache with about 10 months of unlove. We decided to sign the geocache as DWEG1 (Davidwazza and e.gregory1) to save space in the logbook. Thanks 2N's for the cache placement, and RobS72 for its ongoing maintenance.

With overseas travel currently out of the question and state border closures still a lurking as possibilities, my family and some close friends decided that travelling to North Queensland was our best option for a Christmas/New Year escape.

We arrived in Townsville yesterday afternoon and this morning I headed out early before sunrise to grab some caches around Castle Hill while the rest of the family were still in bed asleep. It was then time to head back to collect the family to drop them off for the ferry to Magnetic Island. With that job done, I was free to continue my day geocaching, so headed back to Castle Hill to finish off my to-do list there.

This was a good sized cache to find so dropped off a couple of trackables for the next finder to move on. TFTC

The walk to this cache was a bit of a killer and would not recommend doing it in thongs. Needed a breather when reaching GZ and looking it the usual spot after a bit of a search off the beaten path. Like these sorts of caches and still in great condition TFTC SL TNLN

Nice easy cache with the kids. Good condition, log dry and heaps of room. Watch out for stink bugs! Definitely would be better in walking boots rather than thongs.

We made a bit of a change to our usual Hill routine and made a loop: up the West Ridge, along the road and down Ironbark. This cache happened to be on our way back to our car, so we couldn't resist making a quick grab in the dying light. The thorny tree guarding GZ made a quick grab at me, too! TFTC.

14-Jan-17
We've found a couple of the other AMMO Caches so when we saw that this one was close by we headed over to add this to our finds. We decided to park at the SES carpark and from there we walked up the hill to GZ. We reckon that it would be quite an effort to get those cars into there final resting spots. It looks as though they have been there for quite a while. The Cache was found safe and dry, we added a few for rocks for Cam.

Thanks 2N's

It is the second day of my annual Christmas visit to Townsville to see the in-laws. Unlike the rest of the crookedclan, I am not yet quite in holiday mode, so being up early I thought I'd go and grab a few caches.

My primary target this morning was this caches little brother Ammo Four. On the way back to my hotel for a swim, I figured I'd stop and visit his big brother! Number Three. These containers are my favourite containers by far - waterproof, mostly fire resistant and nice and large!

An easy find - not a nano in site. Thanks for the cache, 2N's.

Decided to head out and clean up some caches on Castle Hill today. This was the first of three caches to be found. It was a nice stroll to the GZ on a rather warm October afternoon. Cache quickly located and log signed. Cache and contents are in excellent condition.

Well that's another of the AMMO caches ticked off and it was so tempting to just head back to the car after making the find. A week of exercise had led to some seriously tired legs but we soldiered on up Ironbark, Triandra, and Dianella Tracks to the top.

Grabbed a TB to continue it's journey

#359 a nice quick cache after a Uni exam...

So I just finished my Uni exam and had about fifteen minutes before I got picked up... I've been wanting these ticked off for a while so walked over. When I saw this one had tbs I came to this one. I was a bit unsure of how to get to GZ and the maps weren't very helpful but I got to the area after a short walk. I liked the crashed cars on the way up to GZ. Saw GZ from ages away, it was obviously the cache. Walked up to it and grabbed it out after taking most of the rocks out of the way. Opened it and signed the log. Took the tbs that were in there as they'll be visiting the Open into Space event by Danzfox on Wednesday. Dropped off one of my own tbs to pursue more KMs without me.

Thanks for the cache 2N's. A nice big cache and a nice view too.

After organising the troops, we made an early start up the hill and this was first cache off the mark. We headed up from the end of James St then over to this cache. It was a quick find at GZ @ 0658h and then off and racing to the next one. Nothing like a climb up Castle Hill to introduce visitors to Townsville's heat and humidity, even early in the morning Big Grin. Thanks 2N's

Was walking up the track and had a GPS on me today so I decided to drop in on the cache. With the recent burnoff to a geocacher it stands out like the proverbial dogs bits. Little one wasn't with me today so the toys were left. I'm going to miss this hill when we return to Perth.

Thanks for the cache.
