Swung by on the way home. Having seen logs saying it's not where you'd expect Ignored the obvious and spotted it instantly quick palm off sign and back between people driving home and passers by and all a successful cache. TFTC!

What an amazing building! I've never been here before and it was quite a shock to see a building like this.

Took longer than expected to find the cache and the hint isn't particularly "hinty"!

Nice quick joint find with "Spire67" and one each from "The 3 Wise Monkeys" & "The Muldoons", following the nearby "Twelve" Event held to celebrate the momentous occurrence of 12:12:12 on 12th day of 12th month of 2012. Thanks for placing.

Found today with JohnnyBGoode Surprised)
Having parked rather dubiously very close to the cache I initially stayed in the car while JohnnyBGoode searched. Eventually I realised this wasn't going to be a quick find so I went to join in the searching whilst keeping an eye out for anyone who looked like they might ticket the car! We searched every nook and cranny and couldn't find it but today's logs assured us it must be there. I'd taken a step back to reassess the situation when I suddenly spotted it... how sneaky! Gave us a chuckle ;o) TFTC!

After a rather lengthy search, Kee thought she had found it, no, it was only a pen, but it did replace the one she had lost earlier, after taking a different approach, she found it quite quickly, thanks for the cache.

Still out and about in Derby, getting ever-closer to the magical number 1212... Walk on the Wildside and I headed to this cache.

We have been caching together for a good few months, and we work well together. We have also adopted standard methods of disguising each other's actions so that they can search un-noticed in muggle-rich environments.

Sometimes it is getting the other to pose for a photo, whilst the hand they are resting on a post dips into the hollow at the top to retrieve it. Or maybe we'll drop our rucksack on the ground so the other can delve inside (and do a check at the base of a gate.

Or with these hides, we both stand in front of the potential cache hiding place, kiss, and allow our hands closest to the cache do the searching. Stage two is the palming off of the cache and walking away arm in arm.

We were working on stage 1, and not finding the cache. When we were disturbed by a car pulling up and a few cheers... we were greeted by Fretdancer and Company!

He was here for his 1000th cache, and the others were here for the smileys, and to film the occasion.

So, with all pretence of other actions gone, all of us (bar Steven Spielberg) set about locating the cache. All we managed to do was lose a pen, and then spend a bit of time retrieving it!

I was at the point of giving up, but not Fretdancer... he found it! Which I am glad, as it is always nice to be the one who does the location on a major milestone.

So we parted ways once more, and continued on our way. I had located an area nearby that had a wealth of caches, and I only needed 3 more to reach the magic 1212.

Out with my boyfriend mr wizz. we was looking everywhere for this sneaky cache and could we find? we was joined by other cachers and the cache was found at last, we was even filmed. well done on the cacher who has this one as his 1,000.

TFTC

and thank you for the history lesson.

Sometime the golden gates will lift,
I know not how nor when ’twill be,
My soul, the one immortal gift,
Will stand beside the changeless sea.

[brown]What a great location. I've never seen the Vernon Gate before so it's nice to see and learn a bit of history about it.

Found this one very quickly, had to be very stealthy due to a taxi driver across the street but managed to shield my actions from view. Signed the log and replaced as found.

Thanks for the cache and the cool bit of history

I made a right meal of this one! I had downloaded it a while ago, just after a few DNFs so according to the logs I read I wasn't even sure it was there. I looked in the place hinted to, but no joy. Just before giving up I thought I would check the website for updates. I am glad I did because newer logs confirmed its presence, and gave more clues! It was then soon retrieved and signed.

Last one of the night and needed my flashlight app again to help me locate this one.

Thanks again for the history of the gates and looking forward to coming back to Derby for some more caches.
