Logs
Sadly have to log this as a dnf - our second one today up Kaiti Hill Had a good search around for about 20mins, my coords were hovering around a particular tree but we extended the search anyway. Pity, as I like the idea of this CANZ challenge. Ill keep an eye on the logs with this and add it to the list to re-search for when Im up this way again
DNF not sure where it was. Tried to look around everywhere. I just assumed it had swept downhill from the rain! Thank you tho
Today we had a good drive / wander round the town and picked up several caches - trads, puzzles we had solved and a few multis worked on today too.Cache found after some searching - looking for a regular - cache eventually found, small but only just, could even be classed as micro Log signed and all returned TFTCTim and Viv - ddm
This was a mission - up a very slippery bank, fighting the vegetation, then hunting down the cache. Fortunately B found it fairly quickly. I managed to faceplant on the way down, getting very muddy. TFTC nzkeko!
One of my destinations for this trip… round and round we went, D was relieved when I uttered the magic words. Then a careful retreat down the slippery path. Thanks nzkeko, appropriate location.
Great find with great views. Didn't take long for us to track the cache down. Tftc
Found with PositiveTuna. Awesome find with a lovely walk and view. Made sure the view was included in our cache-find picture
This is one of my must do caches on this trip and just leaves Hawkes Bay to complete the North Island which I'll be getting later on today. Great view from here. Container was a lot smaller than I expected but found straight away. Thanks for the cache nzkeko

As we have been chasing PWGT caches all over the North Island and we had to come to Gisborne to find enough caches to fulfil a challenge that is in Nelson, we had to come and find this one too.
We had lunch at the top of the hill by the gun emplacement and I wandered down and up here while gk headed way back down the road to look for a multi that I worked out the math on while having lunch.
The ground was a tad slippery which is not surprising after the horrendous weather this area has had lately, but I got to the cache with only one little slip.
The cache was in the first place I looked and is in great condition.
Loved the views from here - it is amazing how many huge trees and logs that can been seen floating out in the ocean from the recent storms. The beach is just full of trees and branches that got washed down rivers and from slips into the ocean. It will take a lot of effort and time to repair the damage around the area.
Thanks for placing this cache as part of the CANZ series and thank you for the smiley

Wow this took longer than necessary. I got soaked through. Went all over. Looked every possibility. A with out a word of a lie. I thought where would I put it? And there it was. Canz always a challenge. Tftc
Arrived at the bottom entrance only to find the road closed and a guy in a vehicle ensuring the no one drove through the cones. That fits right in with the sort of day I'm having! So I drove round to the other entrance which was also closed with some tree felling going on. So back to the other entrance for a walk up the hill. Didn't take too long and actually to was good to get out for a walk after a lot of driving. Absolutely brilliant views up here and it was interesting to see all the ships sitting waiting to come into port. Feels good to have another CANZ one signed off - the series is taking a while. We parked up for the night next to the yacht club and after a bit of a feed, Mrs rattll headed off for a walk around the Titirangi reserve.
After looping around the base and heading up hill to the multi, I continued on to this one. We've picked up a number of these CANZ caches, so it's always good to find another.
A bit of a scramble up, and it took a bit of spotting as i was focused on looking for a regular sized container, rather than a small, but it was great to find it.
I left a homemade rattll coin
Thanks for putting this here for me to find

It's my Mega weekend road trip! This is day seven and I'm off to Gisborne around the Cape (but not the lighthouse, sadly). Will expand on my logs, post photos, qualifying caches for challenges, etc. When I get home. TFTC
I don't have many in the series so the chance to get another one is always welcome.

#1824. Day 9 of our (GB Leader and I) 12 day Hawkes Bay odyssey to watch grandsons play cricket. Then on Saturday, after grandson #1 finished his tournament, it was off to Gisborne.
First time for me in Gisborne for something like 35 years. Shame my arrival coincided with Cyclone Cody and a tsunami. But today was stunning!
Finished the Virtual, then drove down to this cache through a group of young lads doing some strength training. Climbed the hill, and searched in vain for a while, even phoning a friend. But then suddenly - there it was! Phew! Put in a new log as there’s limited space in the old. Got the code, although I doubt I will ever collect the whole series.
And this is now my most easterly cache find, replacing the previous Gisborne caches.
Tftc nzkeko.

Last day in Gisborne, first CANZ cache, I am not sure we will ever find any other caches, but if we don't start, we'll never finish. wE first stopped at the lookout and enjoyed the great map of the pacific ocean. At GZ all was good, we were climbing so fast (it was dry), that the GPS wasn'T fast enough, we passed by the obvious quickly and then went back, after enjoying the views. Both container and logbook were in good condition. Thanks for the hide!
Raining quite a bit this morning but this was on the must fo list. A bit slippery underfoot but a cautious approach was taken and the cache was soon in hand. It was slower to get back to the road but made it with out falling!
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, nzkeko

Even though it's early and it's raining, we climbed the summit. Only slightly slipped on the mud but successfully made it to the top (and down again). Great views even with the rain. Well worth it.

On the bikes today for a caching expedition to find some Geotour caches and the CANZ cache.
This one was very high on our bucket list. I’d given up all thought of ever completing this tour and then the Geotours were created which raised my interest again in CANZ. Now I only have two more to find plus the Auckland semi if they ever let South Islanders back in the big Auk again.
A quick find. Nice view up here.

Arrived in Gisborne yesterday afternoon and had enough time to have a look at this wonderful place. Scrambled up and came down very carefully. Log book full but I found a little space to put my mark. TFTC
Arrived is Gisborne this afternoon and took a drive up the hill for a location check. Always good to get some height. Super windy today!! TFTC
Visited this spot during my East Cape Easter 2021 journey.
Such a view!
Maybe one day I will collect them all.....

#12,485. Parked on Titirangi Drive in Kaiti, Gisborne for a short hike. GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Relatively quick find. The cache itself was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. But the log book was nearly full. Managed to find a white space to sign. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Got close and went i wonder... and sure enough. At least im glad it was there Stunning view. Nice to have another CANZ in the bag. Getting close to finishing both North and South. They take a while - great to progress over time. TFTC.
We chose the hottest day of our week in Gisborne to walk up Kaiti Hill (31 degrees) but it was worth it for this cache and the views. TFTC
Nice view once the slippery track was tackled. Grabbed the CANZ number before heading west.
Day 7 of my week long road trip of geocaching, camping and seeing a few bands. Today I'm heading to Gisborne.
Another CANZ done, found safe and dry. TFTC

A bit windy but lovely look out. It's taken us many years to finally get to Gisborne to finish off CANZ Nth Is cache. TFTC
We have been at an event in Gisborne. As part of it we all had to run/ walk to the top. Only a few of us went to the top. The non achievers wanted to see the view so we drove back up today. Now with a phone it was a chance to find this cache. Another hill! Thanks for bringing us here
Had a few days in Gisborne holidaying with some friends. We had a great time, enjoyed the local hospitality and found a few caches along the way.

A challenging climb with a great view from the top. Cache quickly found and in good condition. TFTC! code noted.
A bit of a trip away to get out the Waikato, I decided to target some Eastern GeoTour caches. This trip ended up being 1294kms over the two days, and a good run for the car. Day 2
A lot of walkers here today, traffic management had a one way system going. A nice find with really nice views!
TFTC nzkeko, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 2 find(s) of 10 today, making this find #2221

#8030. Day 3 of our long weekend away from Wellington on a road trip to Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. I have driven up here with Infoferret. Our main aim is to pick up the TMGT caches and also a selection of other caches in the area. Stayed overnight at the Gisborne motorcamp in the city. Today we are heading north to Tolaga Bay and Tokomaru Bay. The weather is starting to turn with showers expected this morning and rain this afternoon.
We parked down below the short walk up to the hilltop. I admit was was feeling a bit apprehensive as I had a DNF with this one back in Jan 2019. Today I got to GZ, poked my hand into the first suitable place and pulled out a cache. Ah how does that happen? I am certain I looked in that exact same spot last time. In fact multiple times. Why can you not feel a cache on one occasion and have it in your hands immediately on the next. Who knows. Anyway we extracted the precious code, signed the log and returned where found. Picked up two trackables and left a small micro geocoin. Thanks nzkeko for hiding this cache here in Gisborne.

After the TMGT series, this was next on the must do list whilst in the area. GSEL was still smarting after his previous attempt to locate this one, so he headed up here at high speed, whilst I made my way up here more slowly, grateful that it hadn't been raining, it was steep and slippery enough even in the dry!
Once up here, I will admit that the views were worth the climb, and while I was distracted by them, GSEL made the find, which seemed somewhat appropriate. Code recorded for posterity, and now time to (very carefully) make my way back down to the car. TFTC

Spectacular views, wonderful spot. Thanks for getting me here! Lots of junk up around gz. Felt kind of rushed and didn't spend the time I should have.
Took the opportunity while here finding TMGT caches to complete my finds of the North Island CANZ series. Only Hawkes Bay to go now! Found this one fairly quickly while admiring the fantastic views from up here. Signed log, recorded number, TFTC, awarded favourite.
This one was a priority on this visit. Been at least 20years since we have been to Gisborne and this is the last cache to collect to get the NI final coordinates. Only a couple left in the SI as well and one there was thawted by the area being close for lambing. Always enjoy a cache with a view and this one didn't disappoint. Tftc
Found it a bit off GZ (according to my phone-GPS), but one hint in the last logs was a good one.

Wonderfull 360 degree view up here. Would look good when the tree was alive.
Could do with a cito up here. Couldn't bring any down as footing not too sure. At least they were not thrown down. Would be broken glass everywhere.

The crazy Labour Weekend plan is now in full swing. McJandals, NZFlossy & Davidson Clan are joining me for 29 TMGT Caches, the Manawatu Shield & Stickman series then whatever we can find in between. Our final day - an early start and something somewhat surprising was the weather was horrible in Palmy - but awesome up here! I could see this was a pretty neat area but it was getting dark and we were on a mission today. Cheers NZKeko - TFTC - RIP - I’d also like to acknowledge watcache, mar1sa & the TMGT volunteers who have given this trip focus, and all the other COs who have made this trip such an adventure - TFTC

One of 12 located in the Gisborne area on the last day of our Labour Weekend stayover. Drove to the top of the hill for the view and to see what caches were nearby. Good trek up to this one! At the “obvious spot” my coords seemed to indicate that I should go further. I did, but there were no likely hiding places. Returned to the original spot and found the cache almost immediately. #2815. TFTC.
Day 4. After a couple of days in lower north Island we have decided to return to the BOP the long way to collect the TMGT caches, cheers for the adventure and history lessons.
With no mega this year, a plan was hatched with Team BOP to come to the lower Nth Island to get some numbers knocked off, so here we are and loving it!! I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these cache. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers

On the road again . Homeward bound and the long way Lots of fun with Team BOP on a long weekend and lots of great caches. Thanks to all the COs for giving us a cool adventure Great to get this one TFTC
Please be aware GC8CR84 is replacing GC3M8J3 for canz-north-island-semi-final.
Having approached from the wrong direction we were unable to drive to the top so hubby Tui being the intrepid hunter he is, set out on a solo climb. He found the cache fairly easily, got some photos of the amazing views and revenue safely negotiated he way back down. All while this old bird stayed in the car writing up logs. TFTC
After a late dinner we drove up to this one to grab our last for the day at around 10pm. This was the last North Island CANZ cache for us to visit and the focus of our trip to Gisborne. It was quite windy up at these heights as a storm was about to hit and we scrambled up the hill to what must be the highest point in the city. We immediately saw a place to search but didn't initially find the cache so hunted around a little more before going back to the first place we looked and finding the cache soon after.
The rain began to arrive just as we were making it back to the car and was pouring down when we had driven back down to the bottom of the hill, so we were very lucky that we had not been hit while up there. Thanks for the cache, all good at GZ.

Was a good little climb to an undiscovered (for us) lookout spot. Cheers. Picked up a empty few bottles on the way Dow
Off on a 5 day mission from Northland to the East Coast with the main target being the last two CANZ caches that I had not yet found. The opportunity to grab some $25 airfares to Napier was just too good to miss, even though it was winter and the days might be short and the weather might be dodgy.
Day one though was a real mission, with early morning fog for the drive to Auckland, untold time navigating the long Akl parking lots, delayed flights before we took off and then again in the air before we could land causing a missed connection for the rental cache mobile pick up. To top it off, the weather was cold and wet, but I still managed four caches in the dark.
Day four dawned much better with a cloudless sky but still a chilly sou'west wind. After a trip north to Tolaga Bay and a walk out to the lookout above Cook's cove, it was time to head back to Gisborne. Getting a bit late in the day when we got back to here but I was still determined to try for it today, as this was one of the main reasons for the whole trip.
I thought I had sussed out on Google maps the best access route, but it turned out the area was a lot more overgrown since the Google images and it ended up being a bit of a scrub bash in the end. Eventually made it to GZ and took me a couple of circuits before the cache was in hand. Signed the log, made a note of the vital code and then replaced safe and secure ready for the next finder. I took a much shorter route back to the cache mobile, but it still involved a bit of wading through thick vines which tried to hold me back all the time. TFTC

Random trip from tauranga to gisborne and back again in the same day. Lol. What an awesome view up here on such a beautiful day. I like to do things the hard way and made my way up from the other side. Then oh there's a track. Thanks for the great spot. Tb out. Tftc
Visited to drop off x2 TBs from the UK. Bit blustery up here today but lovely views
The forecast for today was rain in the late morning. I really wanted to try and find this cache as I am interested in finishing this series sometime in the future. Our Garmin lead us to the wrong end of the road, as it is a one way road. We decided to park the campervan and walk up. It was pleasant enough. I think we got the best views from gz.
We crossed Cook Strait using the Inter Islander on Saturday. Today is day four. We spent the full day in Gisborne today.
This Easter JDScout and I are off on an East Cape adventure. We are driving in our campervan from Christchurch. This has been something we always wanted to do. I am combining this trip with geocaching.
Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au
If you can't make Aussie. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland. I will keep you posted in my logs.
Thanks for hiding this geocache.

Oh dear. A must do cache in Gisborne and I blew it. Stinking hot day. The girls are not in a good mood as they want to be at the beach and not in a car while I geocache. I run up the steep path to GZ and hope for quick find. But no sign of any cache. Lots of rubbish on site. Peer and feel into all sorts of places. Where is it? Guilt takes over and I descend the hill leaving it for another day. Bother.
This was high on the list of caches to be picked up while we were in town. It was a very wet day bit a little!! bit of rain wasn't going to put us off. Mr TW gallantly volunteered to go and find this cache and scrambled his way to GZ and then slid most of the way back down. I can imagine the views up here on a clear day would be amazing but the visibility today was poor. Many thanks for this cache.
Found with niece Ninanoo in the near dark, after heavy rain, with geohound trying to pull me down the side of the slippery hill. This is my first CANZ cache. I hope the others are just as memorable.
Just now realised when logging at home over a cuppa, I forgot to get the 3 digit code...so will have to go back again. In the dry.

One week off during school holiday time, combined with some cheap flights made a great adventure in the HB and Gisborne area, popping into BoP a couple of times also. I had great fun and I am grateful to all CO's who placed the caches for others' entertainment!!
Beautiful spot here, TFTC!!

Our first mission for the day was to gather information for the Virtual cache. Having completed that it was now time to pick up a few other smilies, for example this one. The terrain was a little tricky - - - the hide was a little tricky - - - but not too tricky for us . TFTC .
Whoop whoop looked for this one yesterday, needed boy eyes apparently! Great view
I have an alert on my phone to let me know when there are airfares from Wellington to anywhere for under $20. A few months ago I booked a return ticket to Gisborne for today... $19 each way. My plan is to find as many caches as I can and then head home to the Hutt Valley in time for dinner. A great plan if you ask me!
The weather played its part too. It was forecast for cold with a few showers but it turned out fine and reasonably warm. However, it was even better in Wellington today according to the news tonight.
I had a great day. Unfortunately, many of the caches I looked for were in need of maintenance and some were impossible for me to find.
The view from up here was very nice. I took a few minutes to stand there and admire it.
Even though I've found over a 1000 caches this is only the second CANZ cache I have visited. This cache is in good condition. All nice and dry. It took me a while to find it because I failed to check out all the obvious places before looking into some of the more obscure ones. However, persistence paid off and I found it in the end.
Thank you

We are spending a couple of nights in Gisborne, after making a spur of the moment decision to get the FTF on the new Virtual, and to collect the CANZ Gisborne cache. Last night we ticked off the first goal, and this morning it is time for the second. After finding En Garde we walked on to the little hill we needed to climb to find the CANZ cache. The steep slope was a little slippery, but not as bad as expected after all the rain. Managed to stay on two feet. We expected the container to be somewhat bigger given the Regular rating, so it took a few circuits to find the hide. Made a note of the code number, then made a careful descent. Thanks, it's great to finally tick this one off.
The kids and i are in Gizzy for the weekend . This cache was on my must find list and as we woke upntonrain this morning i new this would be exciting getting to after reading previous logs. Wasnt as bad as i thought once we arrived the rain had stopped itbwas a little slippery in a few places but cache was found in good condition quickly once at the top. Grabbed the code and of to our next must do cache before heading home.
