Walking in this area with matagouri. I wondered if there was a cache in this area, and he remembered that there had been one here. We had a look and sure enough, it was still there.
A nice quick find, though the log was a wee bit damp. Otherwise fine. Thanks for placing your cache.
Ms_KR and I are off for a wee break "up north" and today we cruised over to Paekakariki. Cyclone Gabrielle is being felt here, but not nearly as badly as it is further north.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. .

Have done the escarpment walk a couple of times now, but have seemingly never thought about there being any caches along it.. today's mission was specifically to change that! First cache of the track, and not off to the best start - log book was too wet to sign, so no signature from me. Did find it though!
Staying at Paekakariki overnight. Contemplating doing the Escarpment walk at some stage so decided to find the start of it and get a couple of caches. Thanks for the cache and for all the others along the way that I intend to get some time.

Found ANZAC day afternoon. Cache is in good order although the log is slightly damp. TFTC
Out this way today and hoping on picking up a few I missed earlier this year. Many thanks
A fine afternoon, an hour or so to spare in Paekakariki ; picking up some more of the Escarpment caches. Nice easy find here, tftc!
Didn't go very far along this trail today, my main focus in the area was the nearby Lab cache. Nice quick find here, cheers
On Wellington Anniversary Monday, I did the escarpment track with my partner and his parents. Trying to find couple of geocaches along the way without slowing us down or being that crazy geocache lady.
It was quite busy with muggles since the weather was good, but the clouds gave enough protection of the sun. Still happy that I was able to find six grab-an-go caches along the way.
The track turned out quite challenging, especially the part where they made little detour due to a slip. However, we saw some amazing views along the track and had a great day.
This one had a wet logbook, but I could still sign it.
Thank for the caches!

The beginning of our escarpment mission. We dnf’d this cache five years ago. Went straight to it today. Nice to change a sad face to a happy one. Pity that we added 8 more sad faces to our map during the course of the walk.

Off to have a hike with my muggle friends. Promised I wouldn't cache all the time. But some are fine.
This was a quick find. The logbook is a bit damp but ok.
Thanks for the cache, Yeetrees!

Walking the escarpment track with Kyb3r before he leaves. Picking up the caches I missed last time I walked it. Care needed here as there was a very rusty sickle nearby.
After completing some of the caches along this trail from the other end, I thought I'd return today to collect some more. A nice quick find here after the muggles has cleared out. So the log book has been signed and the cache is nicely back in its place all ready for the next geo-hunter. Thanks heaps for taking the time to set up this cache. I really appreciate your efforts in doing so. TFTC
We keep promising to walk the rest of this track as we have walked some from the other end. Again other plans have got in the way. Thanks for the placement Yeetrees
The time has come. Ive looked at this trail many times over my years as a cacher and today I decided to head out and do it. I brought my 14yo to suffer/experience an epic walk. We decided to start at the Northern End as we had been told it was slightly easier.
This cache was a quick find and our 1st for the day. TFTC

Not doing the track, there are several reasons why I don't think I could handle it unfortunately.
GPS was jumping around a bit so I tried several hint items.
Finally I felt somewhere where I had thought the cache might be but where I had missed it on the first attempt.
Log was damp but usable, thanks BrooklynKat for minimising the problem.

We'd walked past it before I realised so I quickly double backed!! Easy find - all very wet though inside, I tried to dry out and pen would still work. I made sure bag was air tight when re-sealing so hopefully it wont get worse. Thank you for placing!!
Been here a few years ago with DNF. Returned today for a beautiful walk up to the look out. The track after that is presently closed because of a slip. Happy to change this sad face into a smile. Thanks
1st one of the day of 21 I am hoping to find - this one was an easy start. Log is wet but still writable. TFTC.
#1056. Today I decided to tackle the Paekakariki Escarpment Trail, accompanied by GB Leader and our German wwoofer, Amelie. With my GC App playing up on my phone, and my expertise with Garmin not up to scratch, I was pushing it uphill! GBL came to the party with a short term GC upgrade, and we were away! Having checked the weather forecast, and deciding it was good enough to go, off we set, SuperGold Cards in hand on the Metlink train to Paekak.
Easy enough start, but as the legs got tireder, the route got steeper, and the wind got stronger. We searched for most of the early caches, but by the top, dodging the 54-strong Ngati Toa group who were manfully (& boy-fully and girl-fully!) climbing up with us, we were getting tired, and skipped a few searches.
The two swing bridges were really the highlight, especially the second, given the wind buffeting it about. The downhill second half gave some relief, and it was great to finally reach the end of the Trail. Only seven caches found, a dozen searched for unsuccessfully but a triumph of age over the adversity of Yeetrees’ magnificent job in setting up the challenge. Of course, I’ll be back another day for another go at the rest.
This was #1 of the seven. Found at 10.10 a.m. As has been noted, the log is quite wet, so I plastic bagged it after signing to preserve its longevity. Tftc Yeetrees.

In the good company of SiderosNZ we travelled from Palmerston North to Paekakariki today essentially just to get an EarthCache to celebrate International EarthCache day! "Paekakariki Escarpment", GC6V22N, was our goal. The weather couldn't have been better (sunny and calm), for which we were thankful considering much of where we were around Paekakariki would have been quite exposed in stormy weather.
Naturally we also stopped for some other caches around the area. This was the first of these after we had finished doing the earthcache fieldwork. We parked up Ames St as seemed to be indicated, and walked back down to the main road and across the rail overbridge. We reached the cache soon after for a quick, straightforward find. TFTC
Mr & Mrs geodatum are unlikely to ever be able to do the full escarpment track, but at least we have the first geocache now. Hopefully SiderosNZ will get to do the full track one day.

I was asked to join TwigNZ and ThatWeirdGuy on the Te Araroa Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay escarpment walkway today. It was a glorious day with minimal wind and we set off hopeful to find all 32 caches available on the trail.
After driving to Paekakariki then catching the train to Pukerua Bay we headed off on the trail at 9am. I was thankful to find all 32 caches (with help from the team) and finished the walk in 4 hrs 20 minutes. Logs were signed as Team STT (stardust718, TwigNZ, ThatWeirdGuy).
I made a quick find here. Container and contents all in good condition.
Thanks to the CO for this trail and encouraging me to get out and explore more local(ish) trails.

I didn't manage to find this cache back in 2016 but it proved to be a simple exercise today. This was the only cache I found on the trail today that was wet; it was still easy enough to record proof of my visit n the logbook though.
Couldn't find this one a couple of years back despite an extensive search but an instant find today.
Nice find at the start of this great walk. Log book damp but no problem signing. Tftc.
We parked the geo mobile at the parking lot by the fisherman basket and hoofed it up to the overpass where we started this walk. I hope one day To come back and do all of this series many thanks
Boxing Day adventures!!!
Awesome day for a walk, first time doing the escarpment both ways. Nice easy one.

A few weeks ago my boss in Wellington sent out a notice that our Unit was going to do the Paekakariki Escarpment Track as a Team Building exercise. As a keen geocacher I knew the track had a few caches on it but even I was surprised when I saw there were over 30. That made it a must do, but how could I justify the airfares from Blenheim. I know, there is some training that I need to do and the options were to send me to Wellington to do it or send the trainer to Blenheim. Guess what option I chose.
So yesterday morning I flew to Wellington to do the training. I turned up to discover the server was down so sat around chewing the fat with some of the Wellington team. Eventually the IT boffins got the server up and running and being the quick learner that I am, I managed to complete the training before knock off.
That gave me time to do the Rata Street loop track behind Naenae after work. Not ideal tramping around in the wet bush after the recent rain which continued sporadically while I was out there.
Today a group of about twenty five of us of varying ages and fitness meet at Pukerua Bay station and headed north. the trip got off to a bad start with a DNF at the first, and another four since then with three of the last four being DNFs.
This was the final cache on the track today. It was a QEF and it was the only one that was not double or triple containered. As a result it was the only log that was damp.
My stats for the track were 32 caches total, 25 found, 6 DNF'd, one not attempted (Multi), time taken 6h 20m.

Ended the walkway with a DNF sadly
Started on one side, then went to the other, considered crossing the road, but then decided the traffic speed, and the building of this underpass was possibly for a good reason. So had to back track under again, and then raced to catch up with the muggles.
We have a train to catch, so we can retrieve their car from Pukerua Bay.
Thanks again Yeetrees for all the hides. A fun day on the coast

How appropriate in Maori language week to walk the Te Araroa Escarpment Walk and pick up a few caches along the way. There are so many that to do all would have taken too long and so it was a case of find one and then miss some etc.
This was the first one and a quick find thanks Yeetrees.

Sveppi and I have recently moved to Wellington from Rotorua. Now that the house shopping is behind us, we can finally take time to explore the many great areas the region has to offer! Today a mild southerly and sunny skies meant the Paekakariki escarpment seemed like a good choice.
Started from the North. We are not a fan of power trails so our intention was to only grab a few on the way: at the start, top, and end, with the odd one in between if location was nice and muggles allowed. Unfortunately this wasn't a great start for us. Thought I checked the right "nest". But it's going to be a long walk and we don't want to waste time getting frustrated geocaching, so we didn't spend too long looking: we were keen to go for a walk!

Went for a walk from pukarua Bay to paekakariki. Stunning view along the way. Some caches were slightly wet, others more difficult to find. Great walk tftc
A year and a half ago I did the escarpment walk with the family; there were too many people to cache, and the family is too impatient to stop every 161m. I came back today, in the middle of winter and starting early (in the dark at 6am) to avoid as many other walkers as possible. I did the walk out-and-back, doing the caching on the way out; it took 3 and a half hours to get to the rail bridge. The trip back was an hour and a half with no stops, but it did include a detour round the kohekohe loop.
Hooray, the start! No, even better - the end!
Container was upside down and so water had seeped in through the lid - contents a bit wet.

In Wgtn catching up on family and friends. Monday to myself so its a walk along the Escarpment - Pukerua Bay to Paekakariki. So lets go!
Snagged and tagged. If this is the start south, the finish cant be too far off. Yes like the sound of that. Got to Paikakariki just after 3pm to catch the next train.

Thanks Yeetrees for the cache. This is our find number 764 and we found it at 10:53 AM on 4 February 2018.
Started out on this walk early this morning as we knew the day was going to be a scorcher. Beautiful track, and wonderful views. Thanks to the two teenagers that were with us for doing a lot of the scrambling up the banks
This was the our first time on this track today in the glorious sunshine and not so glorious humidity. Easy find, not covered upon finding so added appropriate camouflage when rehidding. Had to dodge a few fellow track users. TFTC
