Hi skindoThis geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived. Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.RegardsTheCoddiwompler

No luck, sorry

Unfortunately no luck this time round, could easily still be there or in the surrounding area, but just such dense nature and difficult to reach spots. Cheers

Need to come back with a weed eater for this one!

No luck on this one unfortunately.

Found the spot, prickly area. Had a fall backwards into the blackberries, found a stick to scoop but no cigar. Started to rain so gave up to come to the truck to pick out all the prickles

Day 1 of our Labour Weekend trip to Napier with GB Leader to watch grandson #1 play in a cricket tournament for his school, Rongotai College.

After getting over the Remutaka Hill, and dodging showers and getting caught in the rain in Greytown, it was time to target a certain Virtual in the Porangahau area with a very long name! It was a long and winding road from Waipukurau. Never been here before, so great to break new ground. As we got closer to GZ, we noticed signs pointing the way, and then, suddenly, we were there! Wow!!

Then back on the road to the village nearby, discovered the local shop does fish & chips, so got them to eat down at the beach and found 2 of the 3 caches along the way. This was the DNF. It was getting dark, and too many places to look. Another time maybe.

15-Jun-22
Took bit of a hunt but got there in the end. Log a bit munted but room to sign. TFTC

28-May-22
Very well tucked away-needed help to retrieve.Left it a little easier for the next person to retrieve.

05-Mar-22
A disappointing second consecutive DNF. I quickly identified the hint objects and expected the cache would be positioned so that it could be retrieved without having to come into contact with the thorny vegetation. I did check what I considered to be the most promising places, and a few less likely ones, but saw nothing of interest.

Needed to paf a friend to make sure we were in by the correct place. With the help of a walking pole we managed to get the cache out. It was well a truly wedged half way in.

Injuries: one T-shirt with a hole in it and one cut leg (think I knelt on glass bit couldn’t find it amongst the ivy)!!!
The trip with LNM1961 (logs signed either with our own names or ‘LE’) has begun. We are travelling around the Rua area of the PWGT to collect all of these caches, plus some in the Tahi area. However, we aren’t just focussing on them. We are targeting others - oldies, ones that help us qualify for challenges, ones out of the way (especially on the Desert Road), as well as having fun, exploring NZ and seeing the countryside. TFTC

Well I feel I have been on an army assault course to retrieve this cache… needed to PAH to double check correct location, and finally got it out, but with a couple of war wounds.. cut knee and ripped shirt.. Out caching with Ethness.

Too thorny for me but what a spot. It's a shame that the river is contaminated from the surrounding farmland. Kia ora, Eggby

Apologies to the CO.I found this cache a while ago but stopped caching for a while due to the pandemic, and this find was left as a draft on my app.TFTC

We are on our summer holiday, we usually take a few weeks and travel around the South Island, but this year we are heading around the North Island. Heading up the West coast and back down the East coast. Finding only a select few caches along the way, we are mostly targeting some challenges we have qualified for, some large size caches, some that fill gaps in our date placed grid, a few D/T combinations, some with lots of favourite points, letterboxes and anything else that grabs our fancy.

I had a fall on day two of our holiday, while out geocaching which has resulted in a fractured bone in my leg and I am in a moon boot and with crutches and I was told to keep weight off my leg. So I am only limited use when it comes to our trip now. I tend to stay in the campervan and just hand out suggestions of when and where GK should search.

I think we had gone the whole day without gk losing any DNA at cache sites (which is unusual), until this one. I am not sure why he has no sense of self preservation but he certainly has not leant what prickly plants tend to do to human skin. He left the area holding is scratched leg as he was mopping up the claret.

Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley.

Heading down to Masterton for a week of work. Decided to skip SH2 and take the scenic route via the coast. Today we found 12 with 1 DNF. This one took a while as we negotiated the brambles. Glad we persisted and got a smiley. Sad to see a council sign by the river saying the river is contaminated and not fit for swimming.

04-Jan-21
Glad we found the cache where elihyn had placed it, before catching any more prickles

Found with barefootguru on skindo caching run on beautiful day. Apologies for the generic log - B was logging while we went, while I drove. I can't remember them all in detail!

30-Dec-20
Two of us searched for about half an hour, got quite a few scratches and then decided to give up on it. Walking back towards the car we spotted something amongst the ivy and there it was. The second one in a row that hasn't been put back properly. Thanks for placing the cache

Wow thistles, BlackBerry, rose, hawthorn. What else would be nice in shorts and jandals! A fisherman pulled up s I was gingerly heading in. I'm sure he thought I was crazy. Thanks for the cache skindo

Day 1 of our road trip around parts of the Waiarapa.
Weather patches of rain all day with some heavy down pours and to add to the fun very cold and windy all day.
Some caches we found hadn't been found for some time and very over grown.
Other containers and logs very wet so replaced these ones the best we could with new log sheets.
Some great scenery and some interesting sites visited today.
Both of us have never traveled these roads before with the gravel roads in good condition.
Thanks for the cache placements - SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)...

We have been planning for Queen's Birthday weekend for some time - routes and caches were identified and mapped, and Gap solved a whole lot of puzzles in readiness for this adventure. We scoured many online logs and took note of the condition of the caches and their logbooks. We determined to replace any containers and logbooks where there was a dire need - This is not usually our habit and is quite time consuming; but we are enthusiastic cachers and believe in doing our bit for the wider caching community...

It rained heavily overnight, and we expected more of the same over the weekend. As if on cue, the first day of winter brought biting cold wind and driving rain. Today had the potential to be quite miserable, but we had a caching mission to pursue. As the day wore on, we rearranged our clothing layers to conserve body heat... We started out on the 52 on 52 trail with enthusiasm. We've wanted to do this series for ages... More deviating - The river looked silt-laden in the early morning light... Probably due to the heavy rainfall overnight... The hint was very helpful when finding this one, though a few prickly plants have sprung up over the warmer months. Thanks Skindo and TFTC.

Be careful of the tall thistles and thorny bushes. They are everywhere around GZ. Managed to carefully squeeze past these and find the cache. Logbook nice and dry. ThanksFTC.

We set out today on an expedition to Skindoland, aiming to complete the Pursuing the Planets Challenge (we were already well on the way to the final destination), to complete the 250 Finds in March Challenge, and to complete the 52 on 52 trail of caches.
Haydn.seek joined us and we had a very successful day - being able to claim between us all the caches aimed for, bar one. We left Palmerston North at 7am and returned just after 5pm.
We headed to Waipukurau first and it was an eventful journey. First we saw two motor bikes and their riders skid out and crash land on the Saddle Road Surprised - we offered assistance but fellow riders also stopped and were calling emergency services and staying with their injured friends, so we went on, feeling a bit shaken ourselves. Nearing Norsewood we were nearly blinded by the rising sun in places until part way across the Takapau Plains where we went into quite a thick fog - this was a blessing as it cut out the brightness of the sun but wasn't that thick that it made driving too difficult. Things steadily improved as we headed out from Waipukurau on Route 52 and the day became beautifully fine, albeit a little windy at times. There were many lovely views to enjoy, including lots of poplars turning gold. From about Wimbledon we noticed some grey clouds starting to spread. We left Route 52 at Weber and by the time we were back up the Saddle Road we encountered some heavy squalls, but all our caching was done, so no bad weather to be getting out in. Smile
Being forewarned by previous logs, we had secateurs with us! Mr G and haydn.seek both did quite a bit of trimming back of the boxthorn and it is now possible to avoid it when getting the cache, at least for a while. TFTC

#5127. Its the longest day of the year and I am planning a big caching day. Spent the night in Hastings at the local holiday park and now doing a few Hastings caches before heading south via Route 52 to Masterton and then back to Wellington. The plan is to find at least 70-80 caches today so I can get my numbers up for the bulk find component of the DGSC challenge (1500 needed in a year). Part of a blitz to try and get an additional 200 caches found by Boxing Day. I have done 82 in past 2 days driving from Auckland to Hawkes Bay. Heading south again and finally onto Route 52. Great to be back into familiar territory and hunting out more skindo caches. Fairly quick find here. Had to carefully avoid the boxthorn but cache was in a safe place under the concrete slab. Signed the log and replaced as found. Thanks for hiding it here skindo.

Did you know that planning has started for a Mega Event in Wellington in 2018? Check out the details on the [Wellington Event NZ (WENZ) Website](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event's page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/)

Thanks to the Cache Owner who has gone to the trouble of creating this cache, determining the coordinates and then averaging them to make sure they are accurate, placing the cache and registering it online for our enjoyment. Without Cache Owners doing their bit, there wouldn't be a fun hobby that we all love - so again a big THANK YOU. For our bit, all we need to do is find and log the cache that was carefully placed for our personal enjoyment. As we log it we should consider that the Cache Owner also needs to maintain it - when the log sheet fills up, they must replace it. When the container becomes full of water, they need to empty it. When the container is broken, they need to repair it. When it goes missing they need to find or replace it. Well..... the great news is we can do our bit too - make sure your log doesn't take an entire page - just a name and date. If full of water, empty and dry the cache as best as possible. Be careful when handling the cache and make sure you replace it where you found it. If it has a bag, seal it. Just remember - the Cache Owner showed respect to you by placing the cache - please respect them and fellow cachers that follow you by being careful with the cache. And if you have a spare log sheet and the cache you are at needs one, please leave it behind. Finally, if the cache does need maintenance, please let the Cache Owner know - you can log a Maintenance Log or you can drop a line to the Cache Owner. Above all - have fun and remember the Geocaching Code.

Leaving late today which normally isn't a very good idea when trying to cover the wairapa it was a 10am start with a 6.30pm finish, big thank you skindo I have covered most roads in the wairapa thanka to your caches today I was flying solo and had hope to get about 30, thanks to the weather that didn't pan out later in the afternoon so had to come back through weber which is quite a long drive even when your not stopping for caches.

Trying hard to reach a tally of 250 for July to claim a cache in Wairarapa we were running out of days. So, being the last day of the month, and despite the dismal weather forecast, we got up at 6am and were here by 8.30am to start. It was a very long day travelling around the wider Waipukurau, then down to Weber via Porangahau and back to Dannevirke to have fish and chips with my sister at 7.40pm. The last 11 cache attempts were done in the dark which was a first for us, and oh so hard! Got home around 10.45pm to our little dog who thought he had been abandoned forever. A great run and yes we achieved the numbers! It showed up our age as we were totally shattered and both struggled to find enthusiasm for work on Monday. Too many finds for individual logs so thanks to everyone who placed the caches found on the route.

#8232. We enjoyed the drive to Porangahau. GZ was all quiet when we visited. Quick find since the cache was out in the open. It was wet inside, but it was good that haydn.seek had put a waterproof strip in the cache. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

We were out on an overnight chill out at a staff members bach in the the village and we went down to the beach and walked along the wind swept beach for some distance. We first stopped at the b ridge to introduce the others to Geo caching and one of the group found it. the log was very damp and diff to sign so i put in a waterproof strip as a temp. log until it is checked by C O. We found fish on the jetty see photos. we presumed at high tide they jumped and landed on the jetty..
thanks for the cache and another smiley face.

I had never actually been to the river down here. What a beautiful clear flowing river this is! I can see why people rave about how awesome it is! Unfortunate that people have used the cache location as a bathroom. Have moved cache slightly (about 2m) to somewhere a bit more sanitary but same type of hiding space.

Headed out on the first flight to Wellington Saturday morning with FMZ and Lostcourse. Relocating a vehicle back to Auckland meant we had a big caching road trip ahead of us...! We headed back through the Wairarapa towards Napier, clocking up the numbers through skindo land. Sorry for the copy/paste log as its now all abit of a blur having cached for 36 hours with only a few short naps in between. Enjoyed the drive through these rough and winding gravel roads and saw alot of interesting sights.

36 hours, 1,200km, & 315 finds made for an epic adventure! Many thanks for the cache and the perfect excuse to make a weekend of it! Big GrinBig Grin

Took the first flight down to Wellington on Saturday for a fly-down-drive-back-caching weekend with mike-miss and FMZ - basically a caching raid across the North Island.Team FML! for the win! We headed out of Wellington making a beeline for the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay before venturing back to Auckland. We headed through a bunch of interesting winding back roads and saw a lot of beautiful sights and historic spots that only geocaching could have bought us too. We shared the duties around and took a few micro naps when ever prudent. Saturday was my biggest caching day ever, and this February, is easily my biggest month ever. Super Quick find here in the obvious spot. Cheers for the cache placement!

Headed down to Wellington for a fly-down-drive-back-caching weekend with mike-miss and Lostcourse - basically a caching binge drive back to Auckland, caching under the moniker "Team F.M.L." We headed out of Wellington as quickly as possible to get some serious caching done in the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay before heading back to Auckland. Apologies for the copy/paste log, but we found >310 caches in 36 hours and for many it's hard to remember specific details. We headed through a bunch of interesting winding back roads and saw a lot of beautiful sights and historic spots. We shared the driving and stopped for about an hour to catch some shut eye in Pongaroa before continuing, caching all the way. Saturday was my biggest caching day ever, and this Feb, after just the first 36 hours, is already my biggest month ever. TFTC!!! Big Grin

Out for a day trip to the Hawkes Bay coast to find some sunshine and some geocaches - successful on both counts. Good to collect more caches in the 52 on 52 series too. Although the jetty was busy with boats and fishing no-one was looking in my direction. Picked up a TB from here which was not logged in. TFTC skindo.

Mega Weekend

It all started about a month ago when Cats&Dragons brought up the idea of heading down the line to collect 350+ caches. We both had targets that we wanted to meet before attending the NZ Mega. Plans and locations were drawn up and puzzles were begun to be solved. It took me a while to get my head around a few of the puzzles and with the help of a cacher I was soon on a roll.

The weekend finally came and we departed Hamilton at 6pm on a Friday night. 3days, 2,000km, & 11hrs sleep, later 472 caches collected. Thanks to all those who's caches I found especially Skindo with a huge number laid.

A MEGA Adventure

Both Nova Lightning and myself had set ourselves caching targets that we were hoping to meet in time for the NZMEGA in a few weeks. So with a plan in progress and fuel in the tank away we set.
Departed home at 6pm Friday, returned home 3.30pm Monday, 7 hours sleep approx 470 caches and a great adventure.

Thanks to all those that have placed caches especially Skindo as I think we gave his caches a bit of a nudge

Thanks for a great weekend of Caching and Bull.

[green] With Popmac on the way home from a Gisborne geocaching / daffodil trip. Popmac grows daffodils and took a bunch to a daffodil tournament thingy in Gisborne with plans to cache along the way, and I came along for the ride. He won $100! Covers part of the petrol costs! Which helps, as we are taking the long way home.
Another classic "This is NOT a skindo cache!" skindo cache. Stange hiding place, strange container...

26-Jul-13
First one of the day after sitting on the nearby beach to eat breakfast and watch the sun rise. We had tried to find it the night before but it eluded us in the dark. Found on arrival in the morning - it was lying out in the open (hence our miss the night before), so we signed and carefully tucked back into position. Another nice find as we check out some of the many Masterton and Tararua council gravel roads. Some great countryside through this area, and fortunately very little traffic. TFTC

Route 52 certainly is the scenic route. Beautiful views, no traffic not even a Saturday. We really enjoyed it and suddenly ran out of time. Decided to abort in Weber and do the southern part next time we are heading south.
Many thanks to skindo, a lot of effort to manage this.

A few muggle around fishing & playing by the water.
Parked the car for a bit of camo, & hubby went to check out the signage while junior made the grab.
I think this was a FTF. I'd gotten a little slack at checking the log was empty, as the ones before had been, but then at the next few caches I noticed Buttels had been in the area today, so I either missed seeing his log, or they weren't aware of the new ones.
