Looked and looked. Nothing to be found. But very interesting place to visit

Duct-tape present on tree branch, no ammo box though a lot of work going on at the cemetery! Ammo box must have been found. Unfortunate as this cache seemed to have had a lot of work put into it! Great bit of history though! I'm a local, and never been to this cemetery very interesting!

Looks like quite a bit of Landcare work going on. Not sure if the cache got swept up in the process

#10 of a day out into HAVOC land with the DOC, searching for COTY nominees and other worthy caches in the area.

A little confusion as to where to park but relatively straightforward. After the DOC had finished taking an interest in the large, thick set cows, he proceeded to get close and personal with a small, skinny snake! Somehow, this snake in the grass didn’t budge when its wider, head end was trodden on. Ducking into the bushes to discover the treasure, the bushes tried to make a pass on me, tugging and grabbing onto my clothes! Even the cache itself was playing a little easy. Somehow, it slid wide open! On opening, I played with the ball, as it seemed to be in the wrong position. Figuring out the cache, I stayed satisfied with this as one of the COTY nominees on our list. TFTC!!!!

Out caching with Elev8!on [mrnoo17] today checking out some more of the COTY2015 Nominations...

Great bit of History and very Surprised to find the Cemetary here. Should of spent a little time reading some headstones, but our interest grew short when I stepped onto a brown colored 2 ft+ snake ! Surprised
Luckily it was me, as mrnoo only had thongs on !
No bite, no chase, but an uneasy feeling under that foot for atleast our walk amongst all this long grass ! Razz

The puzzle box seems faulty, which was a shame. May re-visit this and checkout what the projected rejuvenation works achieves in the future.

After reading the most interesting cache notes about Francis Greenway, we just had to find this cache as we headed back to Victoria from visiting Mr Harrowang's sister, Beatiebrooks. Not being locals it did take us a little while to find a way to the cemetery. It is looking poor and neglected, but does contain some interesting shaped monuments and pretty wildflowers. Found our way to the log book quite quickly and noted the cleverness employed. SL at 10.13am Took the 2 TB 's for some adventures south in Victoria and left 2 plastic swaps in their place. Reset the puzzle and replaced the container where found. A favourite point from us for a few reasons. #3186 TFTC darth trader

Found on a rainy afternoon. The mechanism was already open when we found it so we reset for the next finder. Fiddled with it so we could appreciate how it would've worked. Very inventive! T4TC.

Previous discoverers had courteously left this unlocked. Couldn't believe my luck! Triggered/reset the device and then realised I'd locked the log book on the outside. Ha Ha I had to solve it to get the log back in! Added two TBs. FP for an awesome design. TNSL

I thought I would go and try my luck at this one today as it was such a nice day and I found the hide pretty fast but to open definitely took a bit more , I spent about 10 mins and was wondering how this contraption would open ,but finally herd the click and went what a fantastic idea .

Thanks for bringing me to this part of Maitland that I never knew existed.
And it gets a fav from me.

We had been looking forward to this one and took the walk down the hill to the old cemetery. The graves are the oldest I have seen and included at least one first fleeter, although most of the headstones are not readable. The crypts were a bit creepy though, I'm glad we didn't have a torch. I walked over to GZ and brought the container out into the light where we were very disappointed to find the trap had not been reset, or maybe a spring is no longer working. We logged our find then reset the trap, although I can't guarantee it will work next time. Thanks for a great puzzle and hide, one of the best around.

For the record the song in my head - "Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot"

I came up to Maitland today to go the caravan and camping show. After getting bogged in the van twice within the past 12 months and both times being in situations where I was far from help and without reception I figured it was time to find something that could help me out. I do the majority of my caching alone so if I get bogged it's not as though I've got anyone who can help me out, especially out in the middle of a national park... I found a cool product called "Bog Out" which seemed to suit my needs and as luck would have it the guy selling the things had a stall at the show. So I decided to come up to ask him some questions and hopefully purchase one (which I did). It's always a nice sweetener also when you know you can grab some caches from a new area!!

After doing the Twisted Tree cache down the river, I saw this one on the GPS and couldn't resist having a look at it. I didn't actually understand how good this cache was, I just saw it and wanted the smiley.. Needless to say, this is one of those times that you stumble upon a great cache and absoloutely love the experience!!

I parked at the parking area and was excited to walked down to the grave yard. Old grave yards are always interesting to explore. As I was walking along I read the description to find out this was going to be a cool cache!! I headed to GZ and spotted the hide very quickly. I was surprised by what I found inside it though. Not quite what I was expecting!!

I have done similar types of puzzles before, but never done one this way so was very excited when I got everything into position and it opened up so I could examine it. I must have been lucky because I had it opened up in under a minute, but I can see how it could take people much longer. This is a very clever device! I'm going to borrow this idea and put in some of my own twists for a new series I've got in mind for gadget style caches.

Thanks for making today such a great day with this awesome cache in a very cool area! Ticks every box for me!! Favourite point awarded.

TFTC cheers

Wow, what a strange place for a cemetery. A little crazy walking around it, as you cannot really tell where the graves are, or are not. Found the cache pretty quickly, but the puzzle was open, as per the previous finder. Signed the log, and have hopefully closed the contraption again. We had a little wander, and was thinking that the large vaults that have been fenced off were Francis Greenways, but on writing this log, and reading the full description, alas they are not. An unmarked grave, such a pity, but the state of the whole cemetery is pretty awful. Like something out of a horror movie. This is my 800th cache. Who Hoo. Smile And gets a fav as well for the contraption.

After finding a few other darth trader caches around the country side, qrbicle (?) In particular was bought to Mrs Browngang's attention and that was enough to convince her to navigate here. We drove down to the little board walk and then traipsed up through the wet 1.5 m high grass. I soon had the cache in hand and was disappointed to have the timber lid fall out onto the ground. No tricky access, no puzzles and nothing to stop the log book falling into my hand, sorry DT but it looks like the mechanism has had it. Thanks anyway and cheers from Browngang

Well played Sir. I know now why sometimes find it broken open! Soooo tempted Smile too much junk in the box for me to be able to hear the solution unfold. As frustration built my hearing and enthusiasm declined- I'd give you an FP for the intensity of emotions you discovered but I can't so I guess that's unlucky for you - ha ha sweet revenge!

We found the cache but could not get it open. Previous logs have told me that it doesn't open, and three of us have continually tried to open it gently for half an hour.... I hope this can be fixed because it is really cool. To show we have found it I have taken a photo.

Found. My Great,Great,Great Grandfather is also buried here. The Cache container needs some work as it no longer opens the appropriate way. Therefore unless you know how it works you wont get it open to log your find.

WOW TFTC we thought we'd try a couple at night to add a bit of excitement. Didn't read the fine print and we all freaked out a bit when we hit the cemetery's sign. The tiny taters had the torch behind us more than in front, just to make sure we were alone Very Happy.
When we found the cache the puzzle hadn't been reset, so we did that and then spent twenty minutes trying to reopen it lol. Excellent cache and one worth the effort. Left a unicorn trackable. Took a little plastic top.

Found with the geo-crew during a late afternoon bike ride and assault on a few East Maitland caches. This cache was to be the primary reason for our visit to this area of the Hunter and we were not disappointed. Rolled down the hill to the cemetery as the sun was setting and the cache was soon located. How to open the inner box took quite a while to figure and in the end we were still not to sure as to how we did it. It just clicked when the geo-wife had a go. Log signed, then we had an equal challenge getting it locked until I spotted the necessary 'tool'. A great cache at a very interesting spot that we would not have otherwise known about or visited. Definitely a favourite point from us. Many thanks darth trader

Found at 4:22 PM GAFF1. We have been here many years ago to do a cache by Mix. We were caching with Big Matt and Shell. So another visit and when we got to GZ we thought - why a Difficulty of 3.5? Oh - now we see [:o)]
So amongst the mozzies that soon discovered us, we started playing around with this well made box and we soon heard a sound that was promising! Flipped it over and pulled on the drawer and voila! Open sesame Big Grin
Gets a favourite for the construction and for the interesting information about Greenway - which I think was a bit of a rogue.
Thanks darth trader.

07-Mar-14
Very clever. Took us quite a while to open. Lots of frustration not knowing if we were doing the right thing, then click. Thanks

07-Mar-14
I have been to this cemetary before for a now-archived cache, but this time we drove down the hill to the bridge, and then walkedover th GZ.
The cache container itself was easy to find, but the puzzle box itself presented some problems in opening it.
After each having a go and passing it back a few times, with a bit of persistance we finally heard the distinctive click and the box opened. What a wonderful concept, DT.

I hate paspalum and had to negotiate 350m of the stuff over a metre high. It's probably not wise to hunt this cache after summer rain.

But the trip was well worth it Big Grin !!

Not only was the site something special but the container caused a few brain cells to re-connect. Well thought out DT.

Nothing much to take, left nothing.

1350 GAFF2 Took a little bit of patience, but don't worry, I have plenty of patients. Wink
Must encourage MVMB to go Premium, as he left a 'gold' karabiner there, only find out when we got home that it is a PM cache - don't seem to have that as an attribute in my setting of GSAK.
Left a Correct Site Marker - surgical marking pen.
Brought through for mileage: 3Bros, AustLighthouses, CITO Tag, CITO Travel Tag, Iconic Bridges '12, Sunseeker, and Travel GPS coins, Baa, Neigh, and Oink coins, B2B ingot, and N-JOYO and Red Racing Ninja #4 TBs, and trackable shirt.

Came up to Maitland today to grab a few old and new caches.
Found the ammo tin quite quickly. It reminded me of my Nasho days when I spotted "7.62" printed on it. This was the size of the ammo we used in our SLRs (rifles). Our recruit training corporal used to bark at us "7.62 RIMLESS NATO ROUND" (I think the yanks called them 7.62 full metal jacket). Also "THEY ARE NOT 'BULLETS', THEY ARE 'ROUNDS' AND THEY DO NOT GO IN A BULLET BOX - IT'S A MAGAZINE!" Now where was I? Oh yes, the cache.
Opened ammo box to find a nice wooden box and, following directions, tilted and rolled it for about ten minutes till the 'click' was heard (it doesn't need to be shaken). Opened it up and was impressed by the obvious work that has gone into this. Well done DT. Removed a fridge magnet and pencil sharpener with metal blade as I thought these could interfere with the lock.
Replaced the lid but noticed the latched needed to be 'coaxed' to get it back in locking mode. Slipped the box back into the ammo tin when I noticed the lid pop open. Checked the inside again and found that when replacing the box the little ball had made its way back to unlock the catch. Sent the ball back down its little hidey hole again and this time rolled it around a little before making sure the lid was properly locked and put it back. This could explain why some previous finders have found the lid unlocked.
Replaced ammo tin and went off to have a look around the graveyard. It's a shame about its condition. Maybe they should get 'Time Team' in to excavate the crypt.
Thanks DT for the fun, memories and history lesson (I had heard that FG was buried up here somewhere but had forgotten it).

Was in Rutherford for a meeting so finally got to drop in to this cache. The cache was easy enough to find then took 5 minutes of of tilting and turning to get the box open in the end it just clicked and open. The history lesson was great I did not know that Fracces Greenway was burried here. Thanks darth trader for sending me here.

Our 6558th overall find.

I must say we got a bit cheated by this one, it appears that DiMorgan forgot to reset the cache. so we managed to get it open straight away. It took a bit to make the latch want to lock again but we got there in the end, it was then that we had to unlock it again. A great cache and the listing has some great history.

Thanks darth trader for the cache.

Headed into Maitland to do a few things and could not resist getting some caches as well. This was one we were able to find. Cleverly done cache which proved a challenge till the marble dropped. Enjoyed the historic cemetery as well. This one gets a fav.

In Maitland for a birthday party so thought we could find some caches too.
We have visited some wonderfull parks, cemetries, old buildings & seen some great caches as well.
This one of our favourites of the day, a point awarded.
Had lunch near Gz, then went off to tackle the cache. We enjoy it when there has been effort to make something different.

Instead of watching the footy i decided to head out to get this cache. It has been on my list of caches to do for a while. Today was the day. We set off with my sister and two cousins. Armed with the pram, we decided to tackle this cache head on. We began pushing and got half way down the hill. "Stuff this!". We tried to get my cousin out of the pram but the latch was stuck! "Oh man!". We continued battling through the field, doing some serious 4WD pramming. We arrived to GZ and i battled through some scrub to retrieve the cache. Found the cache in a matter of seconds and took it out to sign the log. We opened the Ammo Can and started to open the puzzle. After a bit of twisting, turning and rotating, the cache opened. We signed the log and started to close it! This was a major hassle for me because i didnt read the cache description! I eventually a brain wave to read it and we soon had the cache sealed and back in the Ammo Can. Now for the fun part, getting back up the hill. We struggled getting the pram back up the hill. I soon took over the pram and was heaving my way up the hill. We eventually got to the top and we were knackered. Thanks for the cache, adventure and 4WD pramming experience! Smile

Reperio at 1000.

With the day off work, I needed to find a cache for the day as part of the 100 day challenge, and so headed out to check this one out. Arrived at the parking coords and headed down to GZ where the cache container was soon located...and I was looking forward to what lay inside. After a couple of seconds of playing with the box, the lid slipped open, and all was revealed...I was expecting it to take longer than that! There's nothing like conceptualising a cache idea, building it, and seeing it come to life...and this one is a beauty! Loved reading the history and visiting this historic location as well. A great cache all round.

TFTC!

Had a good look around the Cemetery.
Was extremely saddened by the condition of most of the plots. Amazing history in this one location.

Found the cache pretty quick.
Almost stormed off cursing after 10 minutes of the puzzle box but managed to keep my cool and with a little more persistence finally heard the click!

Brilliant idea and very creative.

Thanks again! Smile

Another great Darth cache lid wasn't locked when I found it but soon locked it and tryed it from the start i'm glad no one could see me rattling and rolling the cache Thanks Darth a good cache for my 999th one enjoyed the history lesson and the new place I now know about now Smile

We walk down to this cementary and found the cache. What a great spot. TFTC. Cheers

Wow, what a great cache. Not only the very historic site and the history lesson, but most of all the ingenious inner wooden container. The container was found in good condition (perfectly dry considering the boggy terrain) with the lid in its correct locked position. After about 3 minutes of jiggling and rotating the lid was magically free to slide open. Signed the log and managed to work out what the small piece of timber within was to be used for. I was quite proud of my efforts to open and close with no instructions whatsoever. Maybe I should read right through the instructions before setting off on a search.
Thanks dearth trader for the effort, definitely worthy of a"favourite".

We finally got around to finding this one. We've been looking forward to it after seeing the cache on twitter.

It was still rather wet under foot and it looked like someone had tried to drive down to the little wooden bridges (no it wasn't us).

We soon had the cache in hand, it took around five minutes of twisting and turning before the lid slid off nicely. We performed the caching duties, reset it, re-hid it then onto exploring the cemetery. This little hidden away historical gem makes you feel like you're in the UK or similar not tucked away in the back of Maitland! Awesome cache Darth!

Geotooter and I were up visiting family and wanted to grab at least one cache in the area. The thought of this one sounded intriguing so off we went. Parked at the appropriate spot and made our way down a soggy approach to the cemetery. It is fascinating to think that THE Francis Greenway could be buried here. Geotooter found GZ and made the cache discovery. We were disappointed to find the lid was free and could be slid off without any effort. After completing the signing duties we reset the lid and opened it up again to get the full experience. Thanks Darth Trader for bringing us to this historic place and for the effort in the cache design.

After attending a birthday party for a fellow small cacher, Calypso62 decided that we should do at least one cache for the day & came up with this one. We parked the car as near as possible & using the GPS, continued on foot to the GZ. The only problem was that the ground was extreamly water logged. We were saved from wet feet by the amount of dead grass left in piles after mowing - good for using as "stepping stones". The area was interesting from an historical viewpoint & cachers might take some time to read some of the inscriptions on the headstones. After a brief search, the cache (at least the outer container) was inhand. Opening the inner box proved to be easy - it was not locked. The catch had not been reset by the previous finder. To follow the intention of the cache, we reset the catch & took turns in opening it. Yes, a little tricky but not too hard. With the log signed & cache returned to its hidding place, we returned to the car, again over the water logged ground. Interesting cache.

A suggestion to future cachers is to ensure the catch is reset before returning it to the outer container. Also, perhaps the CO might do a check of it as the catch may need some maintenance.

Parked the car and walked about 300m to GZ then followed the geo trail to the ammo box.
Only took less than a minute of rolling the marble around before i got the click. SL then as suggested used my key to reset it.
Again another nicely built cache . Well done.
Atleast i didn't have to hang off a cliff for this one.

Found it!
About 20-25 years ago I went to the Old Glebe Cemetary to search for an ancestral headstone. The cows were trampling the field and I nearly fell into an old crypt! Now 11 years after the conservation project has begun not much has changed, the cows are gone and a fence is around the old crypts, but the place is still in disrepair. It's a shame to see local history so run down.

Very interesting and unexpected spot. Really good place to hide a cache, love the hides in this type of area. Nice walk in with great rural views of the countryside. The coordinates were spot on so we were able to make the find quickly. The container had us a little bit puzzled however, but as suggested gentleness and persistence paid off. It took a little bit of time to reset the container, we used a key as suggested but there seemed to be issues with the springy bit, we eventually got there however. Nice work again with the listing and a great effort with the container. Thanks Darth Trader for the cache.
