I'm down in Auckland for a geocaching weekend with Yvettetb. She wanted to go geocaching for her birthday and I wanted to get some big numbers to bring my December tally up. Today's plan was to do the walks in Long Bay Regional Park as well as a few others enroute. We walked 18.7Kms and got 30 or so caches. It was a good bit of exercise and quite productive cachewise too. Luckily nothing got us hotter here than the sun. Lots of Te Aroroa walkers passed us at this end of the walkway. I'd have hated to be carrying their heavy packs in this heat. A good description and quick find. Thanks for your cache
A quick find at GZ on our lovely walk in the sunshine. TFGC.I took today off to celebrate my birthday and what better way to celebrate than by going geocaching. What a fantastic summers day for caching in and around Long Bay Regional Park with Lis's Crew.
After not being able to do the walk I wanted I came here and spent 1/2 a day navigating about finding caches and clicking up the step counter. Thanks for all the yellow smiles!
We logged a DNF on this cache five years ago when it was missing so have been keen to return and get a smiley ever since it was replaced.
It turned out to be a slightly longer walk than we expected when we encountered a sign saying that the track was closed and a diversion had been put in place up a hill through the paddocks.
We almost gave up at this point because not only was the hill muddy, the paddock was full of cows which are an animal Mrs Coblet does not enjoy encountering.
But we had come this far so Mr Coblet bravely headed into the cow infested area giving instructions for Mrs Coblet to watch and "if the cows don't attack and trample me into the muddy grass, you are safe to follow".
Mrs Coblet wasn't fully convinced but reluctantly agreed to this arrangement and, after witnessing the cows allow Mr Coblet safe passage through their domain, she joined him in the danger zone.
The diversion turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise as it meant we had a higher vantage point to see the great views, which we enjoyed (while Mrs Coblet kept on eye on the cows).
Once the cows were safely behind us we continued the journey to GZ over the muddy terrain.
Aside from the views across the water one other view caught our eyes when we passed two pale men clothed only from the waist down strolling across the fields.
The weather was pleasant and sunny today but it was still mid winter and a bit chilly for such behaviour and they stood out amongst all the other people in woolly hats and jackets.
We wonder if there was a story behind their attire, or if they were just very hardy lads who were used to much colder climates. But sadly we were too afraid to ask them so will never know.
We continued to follow the diversion track to GZ and, once there, were pleased to make a nice quick find and finally gain a smiley.
Thanks G2 for the cache and for bringing us here to take in the numerous views.

Yes, it was indeed getting stinking hot by now, and we were frazzled by the long detour through farmland We figured out the easiest thing do, once we were on the ridgeline, was to keep going along the ridge and rejoin the track here. The hint made sense once we realised that we needed to climb over to the track side of the gate.
Headed on up to Long Bay today after an earlier attempt ended in a blown heater hose, resulting in an overheated mode of transport....then the next 4 hours were spent sorting out a tow etc...... Today was a much more successful trip......
Parked up and took the bikes for a jaunt around the park.....
TFTC.

Took me at little will th find
GPS had me going in circles till I read the hint.
Got the log done and look up an there were these silvery blue eyes looking at me from the field.
Bit harder look and it's a flock of sheep.
Thanks G-2

Continued on down the trail here and quickly located the hide, right where the hint said it would be. A family was seen heading to me in the distance, so I made sure to pack up everything and replace ASAP, so I wouldn't have to do the awkward explanation of what geocaching is. TFTC G-2!
Super keen to collect some more caches and head out on a trip somewhere, I decided I'd bus up to Long Bay Regional Park and collect some of my unfound caches around the area this afternoon. It was a nice day for it - Not too hot, not too cold and ended up collecting exactly 20 geocaches over the course of nearly 6 hours on foot! No wonder I'm feeling absolutely finished right now, and especially because of some of the demanding terrain in the regional park. Thanks very much to all CO's who made this an enjoyable day for me

Todays plan was to come to long bay and to make our way to the far end to pick up the caches. Weather is good and views are beautiful. Took the coastal path and made a nice quick find of this cache. Just had to follow the hint here.
Back in Long Bay to pick up where I left off a couple weeks ago. In all the times I've been here, this is the first time it hasn't been raining This was the first find of the day, but since I was working this morning it was already early afternoon so definitely getting hot. Cache was easy to locate and as I was signing I rested the container on top of a post, but a gust of wind blew it onto the wrong side of the fence so I had to jump the gate to get it back. Replaced as found. Thanks!
Nice quick find, which kinda makes up for the DNF at the last cache. Lovely walk along this coastal path. TFTC
Second find on our mission to make it to the far end of Long Bay today. Thanks!
This DNF has been a raspberry seed in my wisdom tooth for quite some time. I had a bit more time today, so I made it a point to hike over to get this one.
Thanks for maintaining the cache (almost two years ago). TFTC.

Took the kids to burn off some energy along the Coastal Walk. Nice quick find at GZ, TFTC!
Nice easy find here. Managed to keep away from the 'hot wire.' Thanks for another one G-2.
All good here, overheating nicely and missing that bottle of pop snuggled nicely in the car!
After the couple of hours of mingling, chatting and 'hosting', everyone dispersed to their own plans and agendas and I had a plan to head to the end of the track and back, caching as I went (of course). I reckon it took me a full 2 hours to get to tracks end, but only 40 minutes from there back to the car. The sun was out, and so were the other walkers but all good and not seen by anyone for any caches, super-stealth mode.
Quite an interesting geocaching day for me today in a number of ways. First up I'm hosting my awarded Celebration Event at Long Bay after the Covid-spoiling one was cancelled at Hobsonville a while back. And that also means I get to attend/find my first cache-type of Celebration event, a new cache Icon. And best of all I get to meet the geocaching community up here in the mi8ghty Auckland area. I've cached here (in moderation) a few times over the last 13 years of living here in NZ, but never lived in the 'big smoke'. That all changed a couple of ,months ago and suddenly this target rich environment is starting to bear fruit (caches).
So, I was out of the house at around 0630 this morning with a wish to get some in before event a clock, which was all good as I managed a few finds early doors. All up today I managed just over 60 finds which was good, and after a misty start the sun attended and all was good, and hot. A D5 cache, meeting some new friends and a decent 15km walk was testament to a successful day, and a Silverdale Burger Fuel for a feed too, awesome-ness was experienced. I even managed to knock off the last few Smile puzzle finals to make my round face beam (geo-icon, not my real face!) T F T C all COs today.

Out at the community celebration event today. This is one of the caches I grabbed while here.
Decided to do a loop with Tramyard to do some caches we both needed and then headed off on a run by myself to get all the caches around the long bay point.
Thanks to all the COs who placed caches here!

Ultra quick grab thanks to descriptions and all. I'm still trying to catch up to my wife on this trail due to all my stops!
Find number 6635. Assisting a German friend as she walks this part of the Te Araroa trail and had some time to grab a few of the caches along the way to Okura river. Then it was a walk back around the base of the cliffs as the tide was out.
Still a hot day. But enjoying the walk and the views. Thank you for the placement.

Talked to both "Eileens" but she came up missing for me today....even with the help of about 15 calves who wandered over to give me a hand.
No luck for us today. We searched for a while but came up empty handed. A read of previous logs suggest this might be quite a unique hide so maybe it was right in front of us all the time. We’ll be back once our geosenses have re-charged.
We had DNF here a year ago. Noticed that the next cachers along put in a replacement container. Back again today combining running with geocaching. The final hill before the cache done the legs in so it turned into a run / walk / run on the return journey. Hide quickly found. Managed to get back to the car before the sky opened. Daily cache sorted
No problems locating this one. Never thought to use one of these as a cache. Lol. But it seems to do the trick. Tftc
If you will follow hint you will get lost ... use your geosense and you will find it this little hide. TFTC
Awaiting confirmation from the CO as to if we have found it or not as we found something that very possibly could be the cache but unsure as no log. We have added a log just in case but will mark as required to a Found or DNF whatever the case may be. Great walk no matter
Have been in touch with the CO and been advised that we can log this as a find so the replacement log with one name only was not the FTF (Logged the FTF as "replacement log" and our name underneath so there should be no confusion we definitely weren't the FTF's.
Thanks Glyn for the very fast response to our query!

Out walking on the long Bay Coastal Track this afternoon. It had been slightly cloudy when I set off, but it was sunny, and definitely Hot, by the time I reached this gated community. Searched the obvious hint location, and then searched the other likely spots, all without success. Pretty certain that there is no nicely camoed container here.
Carried on to the Bonus cache then had another look on the way back. About 200 m after giving up I spied something on the track that might just serve as a temporary replacement. Returned to GZ and placed it under the left hand of Eileen. Hope this is ok with the CO.

Late morning, early afternoon outing for the Kiwiscot clan. A proper summers day for a change today. Our only DNF of the day. Had a good thorough look in the long grass in and around the hint location. Expanded the search area, no good.
Lillianz managed to find this little guy, after Furbies had had an initial "boy look"
Log was signed and we were off to the next one.

For some reason, I could not locate this cache, then LilliaNZ checked the same spot, and what do ya know... There was a cache there.. How did I miss that?
TFTC and Happy New Year.

Aiden29 and I checked here 10 days ago, just in case all those dnfers were being blind but found nothing so Supernanny and I came back today and this time we found the cache, nice camo, Supernanny almost lost the lid in the long grass as it was blending in well
Phew ....nice quick find on this today thanks !!!!
The weather sure is Hot too .....
Glad I took cold water with me ...... I hadn't been here for a while and had forgotten about the hills !!!!

This was missing on my last visit, but found quickly today. Nice and quiet up on the track after work today. Neat camo, thanks for replacing
Did this track a month ago and several caches were MIA. Delighted to see they have been replaced so a return trip to find them all. This one was a clever hide - love the camo
This has definitely gone AWOL, in desperation I also asked Eileen's sister, but neither would give up any secrets, I think this needs replacing after previous DNF's

Found with monkfish00 on our way back on the trail after a failed first attempt
Not sure of the significance of the hint? but it did not seem to matter as we signed the log
Its the Christmas meetup at Long Bay, so we decided to arrive early to finish off looking for the caches at the end of the line, and one by one we are getting closer to the end.
TB taken, moving it along to help it in its quest.

Coming to the end of this trail, really enjoying the views across Okura outlet and looking forward to a cold one back at the event. Good walking with rustynz and Jag50.
A nice walk today with RustyNZ and Gorby. Got to this one and the first peek did not reveal it, however sharp eyes spotted what others had not.
I searched and searched for this one, Looked in all the obvious places. Finally called it a DNF and rode off. I hadn't gotten 20m before I stopped and went back, something was nagging me to have another look. Quick look and there it was, not sure how the hang I missed it the first time.
A great day out polishing off all of the end-of-the-line caches. Dropped a TB looking to travel to Oz. TFTC Glyn
Glad I could find this one after the hunt for the last was unsuccessful. Such a view. Thank you!
As this cache has been out of action for too long and the cache owner has not responded or performed any maintenance, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to un-archive it.

Stopped to have a look for this one in what seemed the obvious place, but could find no trace of the cache.
With a small group of motivated searchers we were hoping for a quick find, but no luck today.
Looked for this one twice thinking it was going to be easy however this was not the case. Was gutted I walked away without finding it
Gosh that took a while to find. Pretty sure that electric fence isn't switched on. Thanks.
We had decided to give up, there was lot of water here and we had thoroughly searched everything on both side of the fence line. Re-reading the description i decided on one last line (hint) of approach and came up trumps. With out showing showing new associates i had found it, i asked if they where happy to move on, they where - Ta-da magic cache
Out grabbing the Long Bay series today. The weather is now awesome!! Logged as Team Smilie.
getting pretty close to my 500th!!

Out caching for the day with Cretti. Can't believe I missed this one right before my eyes. I put my hand down and nothing so went to move to another part of the gate only for one of the others to pull it out of where my hand had just been.
Signed log as team smiley.
Thanks for hiding.

This time, 10 weeks after my first try, it was a cinch to find. Who knows why or how!
No luck for us either. Perhaps the next person can contact you and get a replacement to put out there, since you won't be able to do it yourself for a while.
Nup, no luck. I think it's MIA. Probably some crazed cow thought she was going to get her a caffeine fix.
Bugger!! the first dnf along here. Searched and searched both posts and a few subsequent posts thereafter and on the way back too. Should have been an easy find as all the other post hides are, as there is simply nowhere else to search. Just might be gone.
