My wife and I have visited Brighton beach this afternoon. It was nice to enjoy summer in this area when it's still winter in our country. Since it was difficult to isolate single crystals in the field I collected a few small rock fragments to examine at home. Thanks for this informative earthcache!

It was a long caching day. Together with Lady Murazor we reached the southernmost point of our New Zealand trip finding quite a few geocaches along our way and admiring excellent views. Fortunately the weather was better than yesterday. So it was a very good start of the next year! Well, tomorrow there's a time to head back north, our stay here is not as long as we would like it to be.

After some scratching I thing we identified [----] (censored).

Thank you for this EarthCache and greetings from Kraków Poland!
Happy New Year 2017!

On a rainy day, after the Earthquake near Culverden, we drove up to Dunedin. On the way we stopped several times to do some earthcaches.

That day we did a lot of these really interesting experiments. Thanks for that!!! I'd knew about hardness, but haven't had the first hand experience with a experiment yet.

So far seen on this trip: Thailand and New Zealand.

TFTC from a geocacher on his journey through the world.

Danke!

Thanks for placing a geocache here and sorry that I keep my logs short.

Enjoying a great holiday down Otago with tmann421. After several days of cold, windy and wet weather it was great to wake this morning to a beautiful, sunny morning.

We really enjoyed visiting this lovely beach. Took plenty of photos and found out some interested facts regarding the trocks in the area. Thanks for bringing us to this lovely location and TFTEC

It all seems so long ago since the finding of these earthcaches around here but then life is hectic, but at least I have finally managed to complete the formalities to get a smilie. Also Mrs Dragon was getting annoyed at the samples sitting in the office and wanted a good tidy up.
I was down here for two days at the end of the year on my last Rep Training visit which as always necessitated in collecting the odd cache.
Had never been out here before so it made for an interesting drive up and over the hills. great views along here, may just have to bring the Dragon back sometime so we can enjoy it together and collect a few more caches.
The earth history of this location was interersting as I read more and more into it.

Thanks for an interesting stop on New Zealands Geological History

In between the rain showers ran down to the beach to grab do several tests. Was amazed at the selection to choose from and the colour of the sand was amazing in the sunset light.

This was a fun quick earthcache.

At our last visit to Brighton, we were left scratching our heads due to lack of preparation... Today, however, we read the whole listing for both earthcaches in the area, and made sure we had all the required tools before leaving home. The only things missing were the gold and diamonds, but we figured we'd be fine without those Razz tunfisk suffered déjà vu thanks to a geology field trip last year, but how convenient!! Wink We picked a good looking rock, did the scratching, and took some photos before moving onto the next one. TFTEC!!

We had seen these tests at Uni but that was a while ago. We gathered up what test kit we could and did a little shopping to fill the gaps. We tried them all out and where confident in our findings. TFTEC

A nice evening for a trip out on the coastal road, did the scratching then went for an ice cream at the local dairy. Now that's science. Smile
Thanks for the geology lesson Stegan.

Excellent excuse for driving practice on a nice winter day. Took essential equipment, and also took a range of scratching items... picked up broken glass and shell at GZ, very convenient. Lots of discussion as we attacked a couple of different layers, asked by passing muggles if we were fishing? Another intriguing earthcache - thanks stegan.

It was a cold and blustery day to be out and about completing Earthcaches but they were on the list of must do's while visiting Dunedin so despite the sleet ROS ventured out and completed the required tests after which he rewarded himself with a hokey pokey ice cream from the Brighton dairy.
Great series of Earthcaches, logged with permission TFTC.

Hmm, well this certainly had us scratching our heads!

But our answer have been accepted so we must have got it right. It amazing what you can find at the beach or in your car that can be put into action as an alternative tool. We enjoyed the break from driving and the chance to check out the beach. So different from our white sandy beaches at home.

TFTEC!

Another interesting and challenging cache by Stegan Smile We visited Brighton at high tide and took a photo before performing the required tests. Hopefully we have furthered our limited geological knowledge.
