Just over four years ago I was on this track in pursuit of some ftf caches, once they were found I stopped to look for the first part of this cache. It was obviously a bit hard to read even back then as the coordinates I had put me quite some distance away - and I didn't fancy heading up there to find it, so I decided to leave the find for another day.
Later that same day friends of ours found this cache, after a conversation I realised my mistake and soon had the correct coordinates for this one.
Today we were heading to Lake Argyle and we wanted to find a multi for a challenge we are working on, so I suggested we come for a walk and see if this one is still where it was left.
It sure was and in great condition.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

I am regretfully archiving this cache since there's been no response from nor action by the cache owner within the time frame requested in the last reviewer note.

14-Dec-21
Hi 360 Degrees NZ

This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit and after my previous reviewer note, there has been no owner response. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).

I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.

Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.

Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

Regards
TheCoddiwompler

A day trip to St Arnaud, to kick off the start of some elevation for the new set of souvenirs. Found a (the ???) beech at WP1 but couldn't find a container for WP2 numbers.

As I came over the hump, I commented that we might be going the wrong direction, but it was only a short walk back, so very much appreciated. Thanks a lot for a great multi-cache.

I did the first half many years ago but never had the coordinates for the second. Did again today, bit of searching, eventually spotted it from above. Thanks for showing us the plate boundary

24-Feb-20
found stage one eventually after looking at wrong tree at first . put in co ords and returned up the hill and scrabbled up the bank but couldn't locate final despite checking out several beech trees near five finger trees.

Dad for both finds. Nice to add a multi cache to our collection.

Hmmm, I collected the coords many years ago and can't remember why I didn't finish it off. However, doing the loop today so picked this one up. Time to turn around again and head back. Cheers

(# 5454). Today is day 9 of my West Coast trip. Today I am traveling from Westport to St Arnaud. Main goal was the Brunner Peninsula Walk. A quickish find after working out a plausible set of coordinates. Everything in order. TFTC

Note given the state of the note showing the final coordinates at WP1 I have put the coordinates where I found the cache in the container.

14-Mar-19
Found stage one with no problem but he coordinates for the second stage are completely unreadable. Tried to search wjere we could base on hint but could not find anywhere suitable. Have seen others have done this. If someone else manages please rewrote the Coords so others can find.

28-Feb-19
This geocacher reported that there is a problem with this cache.

26-Feb-19
We could find the first stage without problem, but the sheet with the coordinates for the second stage is totally wet and unreadable, we weren't able to make any useful coordinates of it.

12-Jan-19
found while exploring with Bullertrout found first part but couldn't read info so Jim managed to work out where it had to be from the clue and distance from other caches and we manage to find the final just had to wait out a ski boat that where having a rest on the beach

12-Jan-19
Found on a good day out with Kiwi Nomad. Hard to read the co ords now. Managed to read the first one which was enough for the find

I was on 3% battery on phone so logged many about here TFTC.

The final coords getting a little hard to read. But doing the walk clockwize with others who at this time decided to keep walking and not wait for the cacher ended up doing the track twice (also to get a couple i missed the first time) Plus a little way return to hopefully find lost $10 reading glasses.

11-Dec-18
Wandered along the track finding a few caches here & there. No problems here other than WP1coords need renewing as quite hard to read. Nice quick find at the final. TFTC Big Grin

17-Nov-18
Staying with friends at the Lakes overnight and out for an afternoon walk around the peninsula.

It was only after a bit I remembered that I had some unfound caches here so thought to remedy that situation with the help of six sets of eyes.

Feeling we were all finding this too straightforward HorseGirlNZ thought she’d up the interest level by holding onto the container at WP1 for a while just to make sure we’d searched everywhere else properly.

Once she owned up the final coords were plugged in and off the kids went in search of the real cache. Their perseverance paid off after a good search.

Thanks 360 Degrees NZ

Coordinates for second cache basically unreadable due to being wet and old, could use a refresh

03-Aug-18
As we had missed out of a first this morning, we headed up the lake to see if we could grab the one up there. Unfortunately, as we were walking in to the cache site, the first finder was walking out. After nattering on the track for about an hour, we parted company and each headed off.. As we had missed again, we carried on to this cache and soon had part one in hand. A careful check of the clue as it was a bit damp and ink had run, we soon had final co-ords in hand and not long after the cache. Signed and returned. tftc

On a caching trip via Chch, Hanmer Springs & onto St Arnaud.

Loved this cache, what an opportunity to teach the kids with real world examples, especially one that was so easy to understand visually.

I must say it was a bit spooky standing on the edge of a tectonic plate! I was praying for no movement.

Also in St Arnaud for the NZ Orienteering Champs & out exploring with Okayness after the events finished we headed off on the peninsula walk. A straight-forward multi and pretty amazing to be able to stand on two different plates. TFTC

Enjoying a pleasant walk after the orienteering, three of us including Tramper Ted. A quick and straight forward multi. Amazing to consider that the plate boundary lies right here, TFTC.

Finally the rain had stopped and I enjoyed a little walk around the peninsula, just in time to view the awesome colors of the sunset. Very beautiful! This cache with its interesting topic added to the scene. Unbelievable feeling to know you're walking across two tectonic plates. That's worth a Fav-Point for me. Also left a TB and took another one. Happy travels!
Thank you for leading me here!

After much agony finding and manually loading each cache for my first roadtrip with Zara, GPS Zara and I are on our way. From Kowhai point caching back to St Arnaud..
This is my first multi- although went the wrong way I retraced my steps from the next cache and found it. Learnt a new trick with GPS - changing cordinates. Thanks

Had to back track a little to retrieve the final. Great views of the scenery here. Enjoyed reading information relating to this cache.

We're overdue a big one through here. I think I'd rather be on the upthrust side when she goes. I cannot fathom how the new subdivision parts of St Arnaud were permitted to be built right over the fault zone!!??!! TFTC

OK !! If I ignored all me geological training and knowlege gained over the years, I can believe that this fun multi-cache did take me over the plate boundary Big Grin
Yet somehow, I doubt that this spot is THE SPOT !!

I know that the Alpine Fault runs through this area, but to be so precise as to declare this little bump in a walking trail the boundary is a bit far fetched to me Razz
Sorry !! But I expect my major faults to be a bit more noticeable and findable on the internet too !! Smile

But it was a fun cache Big Grin
And I enjoyed the short stroll form one plate to the other [^]
No china broken today Big Grin

NZDi and I have been planning a few days away up at St Arnaud in the Nelson Lakes. On Monday we took over six hours to travel up the Wairau Valley from Blenheim caching along the way. The trip normally takes just over an hour but we were in no hurry as we could not check in to our accommodation until after 3pm anyway. On the way up I managed to get a nice round fifty caches and NZDi got six more that I already had converted into smiley faces.

Tuesday's aim was to get the cache at Parachute Rock then carry on to the ridge to place one of our own, however the weather Gods didn't play the game and we only got to Parachute Rock. After getting back from bagging Parachute Rock we decided to cache in the rain and went came out to cache the area between Mt Robert Road and the lake.

Yesterday it rained heavily all morning and in the afternoon it cleared so we went out to pick up a few caches in the area just to the north of town.

Today we are heading home but we've go enough time to clear the unfound caches on and around the peninsula.

Waypoint 1 was easy enough to find and it was good to see the final was not too far away and was also an easy find. Thanks for the geological lesson. We dropped off a TB for someone to take on their journey.

Mallorcatommy, con/limon and I were on our journey through the southern island of New Zealand. With the help of geocaches we came to so many beautiful places, saw breath-taking landscapes and had, all in all a very wonderful journey! Thank you to all owners for placing all those nice geocaches!

03-Feb-15
Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.

A weekend trip up to the Nelson Lakes with G H 6 7 1 0 and the Seagnoid was planned with a couple of days of the weekend in one of the work baches not far off the lake side in Rotoiti/ St Arnaud. Targets were set; get the Seagnoid past 4000 caches, get more than 50 a day for G H 7 6 1 0, and get me past 3200 cache finds. Also in target was some tramping, some boat caching (grabbing whilst moored as close as safely possible to G Z) some 4 W Driving and some basic park and grabs. We also wanted to get all of the puzzle/unknown caches in St Arnaud as well as 100% of the multi caches in St Arnaud (cache Tectonics!). There was driving, boating, walking, rain, mist, sun, ducklings, eels and trout, sandflies (of course), beech trees and great views. Fun and sweat (no tears), a wasp sting and over 100 caches found for me. We all surpassed our targets and at the end of 2 full on days we returned to a cooler Blenheim than when we left tired out.
The last day of January and this January has probably been my most prolific with lots of great South Island caches, with a handful of N I ones thrown in for good measure. Todays plan is to start with some P &Gs, then off up the Pinch Gut for a nice tramp, then back to the car.
We've got our water transport sorted and under the steady hand of Captain Garth it's all aboard the Skylar, sorry, The Sioux for a putt-putt across and around the lake edges for some m&gs (moor and grabs)
One of the easiest multis I've done and an interesting place to walk between the two plates.
This cache also completes all of the multis in St Arnaud

[green] Capperz decided that this was the weekend for a marathon run on St Arnaud. Not sure why, except that base lodge there had a cancelled weekend and was free to grab. So he, I and GH6710 had an interesting time caching the surrounds. Rained on and off. The wet long grass meant that I had wet feet for the entire trip. Saw the insides and tops of clouds, some great views, lotsw of rabbits (or maybe just the one, many times over - it always did the same thing: safe on the side of the road, it decides to runs across just in front of the car). Also got to see robins, sandflies, no keas, sandflies and more sandflies. We managed to get GH to break his 50/day record, and over 120 for the whole trip. Saturday we climbed half way up Mt Robert in the morning then boated around Lake Rotoiti in a little yellow plastic dingy for the afternoon. Sunday was lonely cache day - some over 10 months since their last find. Many of these found with GH's 4x4, bumping over some very rough roads, my first real experience of four wheel driving. What an awesome weekend! Big Grin
The morning up Mt Robert is done, now it is the afternoon boating around the circumference of the lake. We had a little yellow plastic dingy with a 15 HP engine. If this was sea we would be ridiculously overloaded. As it was it must have looked an odd sight!
Stopped here to find every single multi in the area. Given the description I expected the final to be on the other side of the alps. Well, there was a bit of a climb to the final.

Late logging (sorry). This was one of many found with Rincewind3 (husband) and NZGecko (daughter) during our summer holiday in this beautiful part of the country.
My favourite kind of multi. Short. Wink Interesting points to learn and a cache to find, it was a win-win really. TFTC

23-Jan-15
First stage was found easily at the point we gained access to the lake for a spot of fishing (and swimming for the ladies). Second stage I walked right past one hint item so was searching the wrong spot. I soon sorted that when I looked up - directly at the cache! Got it signed and found room inside to leave a collection of travel bugs I had picked up in Canterbury and further south. About time someone else had a chance to move them on.

Coming to the end of our week in St Arnaud. Day 7 and a bit of a push on to deal with some of the in and around St Arnaud caches that we hadn't got to.
The day much cooler and cloud cover for much of the event. Made outdoor conditions not unpleasant and not too hot for hiking about. Tackling the series of caches on foot.
Enjoying the Brunner Peninsula walk and a multi to tease us mid-way. Nice one. Made the find, and this was #5 for our day's outing.
Cace find was straightforward. Cache in order, log signed. Safely re-hidden, just as found.

#8611. Neat idea for a multi. We were in Chch for the Sept 2010 cache, and for a couple of months of aftershocks, so have had enough of plate movements to last us a while. TFTC.

15-Nov-14
After a late lunch, we headed out for a walk around the peninsula. It was quite sheltered in Kerr Bay, but as we headed around the end of the peninsula towards West Bay, the wind got stronger.
Enjoyed this cache, a good idea to highlight the fault line. No perceptible movement today, thank goodness. TFTC.

Partial find for this - found part 1 so easily but couldn't see part 2. Were running out of time by now so didn't have long to look but frustrating again. Luckily this is an area we often visit so we will be back.
