Decided to head up the highway for another day and to grab those caches I've been driving past on previous trips. Started here and headed south before taking a triangle direction.

Took a few minutes to put me hand on it, but all was good and the cache was soon in hand.

Thanks for another one strange quark1....cache all good.

Catching up on logging. We spent a week in Adelaide catching up with family and then headed to St Arnauds via the Silos south of the Mallee Highway arriving in St Arnaud last night. So today we are off to explore the street art and caches around the town. We have been aiming to get back here since the Mega in 2019 where we were able to catch a few of the trails but of course not all. This was the next cache for the morning. When we were at the info centre we had seen a pamphlet for the Pebble Church so we headed out towards there and this cache was on the way. Another cache showing a bit of town history!! Smile Cache was a nice easy find for GMelb.

Dromaniax needed to get their Caravan to their block in Moonambel so I offered the use of my geomobile (The Ginja Ninja, named because it is used for stealth caching attacks) to aid the project. Once the van was delivered we set up camp so the rest of the afternoon and even could be devoted to some caching.
A plan was formed with a mix of Adventure labs and caches heading to St Arnaurd for dinner.

Neither of us had cached along this road in previous trips to St Arnaud so it was a good chance for a few smileys.
We were thankful for good head torches here in making our way down to the old bridge. At least it was a quick and easy find, I was able to put my hand straight on the cache in the first place I looked.

Thank you strange quark1 for the hide

Mr Sims_family and Mr Dromaniax had headed up to Moonambel to take the Dromaniax caravan to their property. It was decided that they would camp overnight at the property and do a little caching around the area.

So the caravan had been delivered at the tent and stretchers set up. As the Avoca pub was closed today it was decided we would head up to St Arnaud to check out dinner options there.

We decided to cache our way up to pick up caches neither of us had found on that trip.

Neither of us had cached up this round so it was a good choice for us to pick up a few smileys.

Well the frogs were out in force as we approached this cache. The headlamps helped us to focus our search and we were soon in possession of the cache.

The cache is in excellent condition.

Thank you for this Traditional cache strange quark1

A magnificent relic that geocaching makes you stop and explore. This took some searching even though I missed it on 2 passes. Took photos, then Geowife came down to help and she called me over and said “here it is”. She is good and thorough. Log signed, left a Trackable and back as found.

Welcome back from Covid. If there are issues with the cache after the length of time in situ please message me.

Due to a rise in Covid-19 I have made a conscious decision not to undertake cache maintenance as I feel that it doesn’t fit one of the reasons for being out during this pandemic. As I work in Melbourne in an emergency service but live regional I will not be putting myself or my community at risk.

I therefore am disabling all of my physical caches for the time being. The caches them self will be left in situ.

I won’t be deleting logs or anything like that and I intend to enable them again once I feel that my safety or that of my community won’t be put at risk.

I apologise for the inconvenience.

This weekend was the St. Arnaud Mega event and I was looking forward to hitting the road for a few days doing some flat out caching, visiting many new and amazing places and catching up with lots of caching friends. The event was a great success and heaps of fun. The caches provided by the local cachers were, in many cases, absolutely mind blowing (FUF009 caches most notably). All in all it was a great weekend, very warm weather and lots of caches found.
Cache found and log signed. TFTC.

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the Mega event.

FeatherWaite, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday, taking a circuitous, but scenic route to St Arnaud to pick up a few caches in some other Victorian LGAs. We met up with Freddo and Davidwazza at the event that evening and teamed up to complete a couple more caches that night together before camping out of town.

Over the next three days we cached very solidly in and around St Arnaud, finding a diverse range of Traditional, Multi, Unknown, Virtual, Letterbox, Wherigo and Earthcaches as well as attending all the events associated with the Mega. We also managed to complete all the Lab caches over the weekend. Logbooks were signed D.E.F.F.98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo and gridge98).

On the Sunday afternoon, after the final GIFF event, FeatherWaite and I began making our way back to Adelaide, picking up a couple of caches before camping in the Little Desert NP. The following day we continued towards home with a side visit to Mount Rescue to pick up a few caches along the tracks there.

Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches. They included a huge variety of containers, hides and puzzles, many of which were very clever and/or amusing and had obviously taken considerable time and effort to construct. Thanks also to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. I’ll be looking forward to the Mega at Millicent in South Australia next Easter!

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the 2019 Victorian Mega event. The weekend was spent primarily with e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98 as we geocached around the vicinity of St Arnaud. All of the events and CITOs were attended, we completed the available adventure labs and lab caches available at the showgrounds, many of the creative trails were gasped at their construction, and interesting puzzles were solved and collected during the weekend.

We all left on Thursday in two separate cars, and met up at the evening event, before finding a camp spot for the night in a very CITO location. On Friday, we targeted the StARS (St Arnaud Ramble Series) and the higher quality, well-constructed geocaches that were famous here in St Arnaud, and got lucky with the 2019 published series that we managed to snag FTFs on. Sunday had us continuing to find the other sets of high-quality caches around the neighbouring town parks, the challenge series, before spending a few hours at geocaching HQ participating in the labs that had been published. The event was also great to see some of the South Australians honoured with geocaching life awards (in amongst everyone on the list). Our final day, Sunday, had us do a big loop finishing off our geocache collection, driving all the way out to Kooreh and around via Stuart Mill, walking the conservation park at Mount Gowar, and finishing off at the GIFF event. A massive weekend that turned out to be a great mega! Thanks to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. The variety between the local high-quality caches, the new series placed by the mega team, and those who needed to be around for the labs and main centre fielding questions was appreciated immensely.

Today with our final day in St Arnaud, we went east and south focusing on some of the *Original Road* series, and the various geocaches that were placed along these routes. This cache was one of these found as we headed towards Stuart Mill. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache. The logbook was signed as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98).

Found as part of our trip to the St Arnaud Mega event. On Day 1, e.gregory1, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday morning, straight after the Earlybirds event in North Adelaide. We travelled a long and circuitous route via Bordertown, Nhil and Warracknabeal to find caches in 5 additional Victorian LGAs that I had yet to visit (namely Buloke, Loddon, [Greater Bendigo - I’d previously visited], Mt Alexander, Hepburn and Central Goldfields). On Days 2-4 we met up with Freddo and Davidwazza. As a group we systematically completed each of the many series around St Arnaud and found all other caches along the way, signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, Featherwaite and gridge98), as well as attending the events and completing the Lab caches. After the Mega, e.gregory1 and I headed back to Adelaide camping out in Little Desert NP overnight. On Day 5 we had intended picking up caches around Mundulla and Mount Monster but a last minute change of plans saw us head into Ngarkat CP instead, for a solid drive and a few extra rewarding cache finds. Many thanks to all the cache owners for placing the huge variety of caches around St Arnaud and to all those who organised the Mega and the fantastic weekend away. Thanks for the cache strange quark1!

We detour down south to finish off the last few caches down here, cache was found all in good order

What a big trip this was! I headed over to St Arnaud for the 2019 Victorian mega with e.gregory1, Davidwazza, Featherwaite and Freddo for the long weekend.
The weekend was filled with a lot of finds ranging in puzzles, a few events and some very well constructed hides around the area.

Day 1: I headed over with e.gregory1 and featherwaite, with the aim to collect some unfound LGAs for the guys, with only a 500km drive to the mega from home we added an extra 450km to the trip by going over to Bendigo and further south exploring some regional towns, overall we added an extra 6 LGAs with only 18 finds for the day. Was great to see some of the interesting little towns and what they had to offer for future visits.

Day 2: As a group we hit the trails in St Arnaud as a group signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, featherwaite and gridge98) to save a lot of room in the logbook. We started off with the geoart Stars and thought it would take most of the day, as we finished it in 2.5 hours we were a bit surprised so hit the well constructed caches in the south of the town in the bush throwing a CITO in the mix. All the caches were amazing and something you don’t see anywhere else. Adding in 15 FTFs along the way with: everlasting, crank1 and Pwola. The evening settled in and we headed into town for a buffet dinner and a catch up with some familiar faces.

Day 3:
After attending the GV2020 event for the morning we set off to hit the last of the trails left in town of the metal containers, followed by the challenges for the mega as well as quite a few trads around the back roads. We ended the day by having a go at the lab caches at the mega then off to the CITO. I don't think I have ever seen so mant people at a tip before. Topped off the day with an evening event.

Day 4: By today the town was almost cleaned out and only a few caches to find, so we did the last few caches within a rough 15km radius driving around finding the odd cache here and there. The GIFF was finished off the mega so we decided to head to Horsham for the evening.

Day 5: After leaving our camp site for the morning, we cached for the morning around Horsham collecting a few grads and a well earned swim. Then made the long drive back home to Adelaide.

Thanks to all the COs for their cache placements and the Geocaching Victoria crew for organising a fantastic weekend away.

Well, this didn't go as planned. We parked safely and approached from what turned out to be the wrong side. Glad of good hiking shoes, we descended to the creekbed but discovered that the shoes were no help once down there. The bed was wet and diarrhoea-yellow, so we collected a kilo of mud on each foot which unfortunately didn't come off on the road surface. It did, however, come off on the notepaper we use to track the geocaches we find and also on the back of Kato Potato's jeans sparking many poo-explosion jokes for the rest of the day. In the area for the St Arnaud Mega event and once again privileged to be able to spend the whole weekend with Mummy Short Legs on a mum's weekend away, our scared annual Caching Adventure without the families in tow.

This was our 5th find for the day, made while on our way from Dunolly to the Mega and this is where things started to get messy! We may have approached this one from the wrong side which then resulted in a quick slip and slide across the muddy creek bottom to get to GZ. While we were lucky and didn't have any stacks on the way, our boots were beautifully caked in what can only be described as a diarrhoea coloured mud which then managed to transfer to my butt when I squatted later on... so the poo jokes were many this fine day! The cache was discovered by MSL and all signed and returned, us returning to our vehicle the more conventional way. TFTC strange quark 1.

Thanks!

Today:

After finally getting leave approved for the 2019 St Arnaud event, it was time to get underway from Canberra on the Thursday morning, 5am departure!

Myself, DSD and ZQX teamed up for an eventful weekend filled with caching and many km’s including dozens of towns and counties I have never been through before!

We drove all the way from Canberra to St Arnaud today, grabbing a couple caches along the way including a lunch time event in Bendigo, before arriving in time for the dinner event near the mega site. We managed to grab almost every cache type today alone, targeting interesting ones along the way.

Thanks to all the CO’s for today Smile

Google is not my friend anymore due to having my email address locked last Wednesday night and not getting it back until a few days ago.
This caused me a lot of hassles during my caching trip to St Arnaud last weekend by not receiving any notifications of new caches and having to rely on my mates and some of them had problems with the Telstra coverage but we got there in the end.
Adding to my problems I am now many days behind in my logging so it will a generic log for the most part.
Also on returning home my printer decided to go to sleep.
A week later I think everything including my tablet is back to normal, so phone, tablet and computer are all finally working as you would expect them to.
It is interesting to note the number of geocaching folk who head up to St Arnaud to attend this weekend seems to increase in numbers each year and how far away they have to go for accommodation thus the reason I book ahead each year.
Today I am accompanied by my good friend au.fait as we ventured up to Donald to clean out that area and then returned back to St Arnaud for lunch. Afterwards we headed down this way as every time I am passing I have the caravan on behind so have not ventured down this section of road. My old saying "Expect the unexpected" came true along here.
Again you never know what is around the corner but the locals do, for that I am always happy to find something that otherwise you would just drive past.
Thanks strange quark for placing this cache.

Today was my first day of my holidays and I was heading to the weekend events at St Arnaud. The caches I chose along the way were stop and revive caches spread out between Ballarat and St Arnaud. This bridge has certainly seen better days. Once at GZ the cache was quickly found.

My thanks to strange quark1 for the cache.

Took a little bit to find this one, my coordinates were out a bit so decided to just look around and bingo signed and returned. What a great piece of history. TFTC

A few days off so BettyBoo3747 and I decided to head to St Arnaud. It is not often that I'm not working on this event weekend, but this one coincided with my day's off.
Day one and we travelled from Willy to St Arnaud. We started a bit of caching on this side of Ballarat, and finished off with the LP trail by deadly treadlies in the afternoon.

We thought we knew which bridge the troll would be under, but when we stopped we were still too far away. That is when we noticed the other bridge.
A lot more interesting!
Strangely the map on the GPSr still shows the old road and not the new.
Thanks, Robmc.

#14821. A travelling day for Robmc and me as we make our way to St Arnaud for the weekend. A nice little tally of 20 caches found before we reached town in time for a late lunch. After settling in we unloaded the bicycles and headed out to do one of the trails just out of town. A good day with a total of 40 caches found.

I love old bridges so it was good to stop and admire the large old timbers here. After finding and signing the cache of course. Took some photos too and continued on.

Thanks strange quark1

I love these old bridges. It's a shame they couldn't be preserved. Fortunately there wasn't a troll in sight this evening! TFTC

Oops nearly drove past this before I realised where it was. Under the pump time wise now to get to St Arnaud. Fortunately quick to locate and sign before trolls or muggles appeared. Away we go again! CIGC TNLN TFTC strange quark1

Sitting at my computer during these Covid lockdowns, I am trying to catch up on a few logs that I haven't sent in yet.

Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.

Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.

Sorry for the late log, something I am notorious for. Thank you for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

Thanks strange quark1 (F=2686 H=69) for the cache.

sushilord and Doctor Owl were on a mission to find caches in deepest darkest Victoria with the main aim of visiting challenge caches and working on requirements for a number of challenge caches in South Australia and Victoria. During the trip there were laughs, tears, fractious frustrations and new equipment tested with some technology failures. Many miles were covered and boxes opened along the way.

After settling into our overnight digs there was time for more caching before dinner and meeting up with Tyred n Cranky and FUF.

This structure shows off the early engineering feats of our forefathers, thanks for brining us here strange quark.
