Spent a while at GZ going "there are no punga here! No dead punga, no old punga stumps!" Followed by "Oh - there they are - on the other side of the track. So of the four old trunks there are only five left.---I have a problem. I am working it, but it's hard. I have been working a streak for so long, and after that so many calendar based projects (of which multi and regular dot-days are still running). So today I decided to do the Dry Creek Loop Walk. There is an ulterior motive of course - there is a regular up there, that I can pre-find for a regular dot day one day.I cycled over, locked the bike and set off clockwise.
Went for a mountain bike ride to do this loop of caches and completely forgot to log them! TFTC
Caching without the benefit of GPS today as it's been telling me I'm currently in Stokes Valley (after a brief trip to Moera) for the last half an hour. Great directions and an observant wife who spotted there was in fact one short hint object to add to the three tall ones and we had the cache in hand. Tftc
Walking the Dry Creek Loop on a fine afternoon. Nice find as per hint, although hint objects looking a little past their use-by date. All good inside the container. Tftc!
Quick find after our slog up the hill. This was our second time around the loop. Last time it was winter and we were racing against the clock to get back to the car before the gate closed so we skipped the downhill caches. TFTC
Coming down to this one I saw a dog having fun! They headed on and cache signed shortly after. Many thanks! Log wet but writable
Lost reception at the critical moment so had to hike up and back to get the info needed, though it was a quick find after that. Tftc!
Had a great day geocaching in the sun. 2hours 45 minutes round trip, nice walk. Thank you
Was sad to see the cache lying out underneath the fallen hint object, squashed, with lid off and broken pen lying nearby, I tried to squash it back into shape and just managed to get the lid on, but I think it is going to need to be replaced as it will let water in, sorry I didn't have a replacement container on me, the log was still signable, I've put the cache back under the rock, TFTC
It was my New Years Resolution to get back into running this year. I started on New Years Day in Rotorua and have been for at least a short jog every day since. We're back home in the Hutt Valley now and I have decided to find 10 caches along the Dry Creek Loop Trail that I haven't got to yet. My plan is... one cache a day, ten days in a row, up on the Loop, killing two birds with one stone each day... a jog and a geocache until they're all found.
Day number three. This was actually number four on my list but I ran past the third one and (when I figured it out) I decided to keep going to this one rather than doubling back. I came up the steep way and went right round the loop and back to the carpark. I saw quite a few people on the track on the way here. Like others before me, I made this way too difficult for myself by not trusting the coordinates and thinking I knew better. I found it in the end by reading through previous logs and learning from their mistakes. It took me about 15 minutes to find it and gets a FP from me because it was such a nice place to explore.
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

Down for the Wellington Mega with KirsTim & yorkshirekiwi83 and vistra for the weekend, picking up caches in the area along the way. Lots of fun had and some cool sights to see. We especially enjoyed finding these caches in the Dry Creek area today, what a beautiful area! Many thanks to all the cache owners for the great maintenance and their caches!
Spent the long weekend down in Wellington and the surrounding region with Vamber, KirsTim and vistra, we were there for the Mega event and we picked up some caches along the way. We decided to focus on the Dry Creek loop walk and found all the caches, having a wonderful if not strenuous outing the way we approached it. Promise of the dog was unfulfilled TFTC
I flew down to Wellington just for the day today to attend the WENZ Mega Event and I joined up with Yorkshirekiwi83, Vamber and KirsTim for a day's caching, which was focussed primarily on caches in the Hutt Valley area - signing all logs as KKKTTS. We decided that a walk was in order, so headed to Dry Creek and did the loop walk there - which was an enjoyable outing, where we managed to find all caches! Most of us started looking in what seemed the obvious spot, while another look on the other side of the road and soon found the cache! TFTC!
Lots of old punga, lots of stones besides them but the worry of the previous DNFs was put aside when we realised we were being muppets & looking in the wrong place.
no friendly dog though, gutted
Thanks

In the area for the Mega and decided to do the Dry Creek cache walk. Thanks for all the placements around here.
This one took a bit of time, there are a lot of old punga.

ABL973 did not find this cache today after searching for about 30min ... bugger. I got some really consistent co-ord locks and then expanded my search area.
Not for me today Had good look at several hint items but no the prize did not show Perhaps I'm a bit blind?! Thanks anyway
One of the most notable things about this location is the conspicuous absense of any friendly dogs. So for me this is "No Dog Corner". When I last came up here this was my only DNF which turned out to be because it was missing. Today I homed in on the place I expected it to be last time and there was the new cache. Eveything in good condition despite the extremely damp location. TFTC.
#5383. Well the One Day International cricket wasn't going that well today (we later lost the game). I decided it was time to head out and get some exercise rather than being a couch potato. So headed up to Haywards and Dry Creek to do this loop in the afternoon. Definitely a steep track going anticlockwise. Took a few minutes to locate this one as there were a number of hint objects in the area and this was the one I least expected to match the hint. But it was closest to the coordinates. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Not sure what cache NZ1 found as that name was not showing up on the logbook. Thanks for hiding it here Tramper Ted.
No dogs today so I gave the wife a pat. We has closely investigated four hint objects when a family turned up with dog. Well it was time for afternoon tea. After they left the wife noticed one more hint object (the smallest) which of course was where the cache is.
After a DNF last time decided to try again after the cache had been replaced by the cache owner. Much easier this time around - exactly where we looked last time.

Visited today and replaced cache where it was originally. Had good co-ordinates and will relist them. Cache can be accessed without leaving the track. It was never in amongst the nettles, so this is all a bit of a mystery.
Cache seems to have either disappeared or been overcome with stinging nettle so would appreciate a check by the owner when next in the area

Hint object seemed pretty clear. In fact it caught my eye before I even realized I was at GZ. However could not find a cache near, under or around it.
Found on a late afternoon / early evening mountain bike ride around the Dry Creek Loop with a diversion off to Boulder Hill on the way.
Only DNF of the day - found two likely hint objects but one was infested with stinging nettle. The other which pretty much where the GPS went off but couldn't find anything. Will keep and eye out for future finds and then return.

Barefootguru bashed the bush to find this one while I got stuck with prickles in completely the wrong area.
We got this one completely wrong thanks to Apple Maps (yea I know!).
Had to do over 100m of bush bashing down the steep hill side to eventually hit the trail again and almost right on top of this one.

Ran down the hill for this one then realised I'd gone straight past it. Pic of my friendly doggies at this lovely spot

Nice and easy for my Belmont dot day. Although admittedly I did look at the hint - was a bit confused as wasn't sure if I had to go off track or not. Found hint object easily, and therefore the cache. Tftc
It was my aim to find 30 caches today, and I had spent the morning up on Mt Climie looking for the new caches at the far end of the ridge. So by midday I only had three of the 30. I then made good progress with the caches I hadn't yet found on the Climie access road and in Tunnel Gully; I got up to 22 by around 3.30, but I needed to find the final 8 quickly so I could be home by 5.30 at the latest.
I'm not really into park and grabs, so I stopped at Dry Creek on the way home - I had seen about a dozen caches on the map on a loop track here and I was hopeful I could get eight of them, even though I knew nothing about the walk. I dumped all my gear - hat and water - surely it's cooling down by 4pm, right? - and only took my GPSr and a pen with me.
Well, with a combination of walking and running (still in my boots from Mt Climie) I completed the loop and found my eight and no more. I couldn't have gone any further though - the car was reporting it was still 28 degrees at 5.30 (cooling down? Nope!) and I was getting more than a tad dehydrated. Very grateful to reach the carpark and complete the goal. I made it home only ten minutes late (and that was due to traffic on the motorway!).
Thankfully all the caches I found were quick finds. This was no. 6 of 8. TFTC!

Found it quick n easy as good hint. Cache in good order. GLAD to have this one, TFTC.
After heading the wrong way round we came to this one, the others up to and after this one seemed an easy find, but with a lot of searching we couldn't find this one, will try again soon but was a long walk on a hot day
Took the most direct route from the pylon above. Was a very fun bush bashing adventure! TFTC
We somehow didn't see the path that leads to GZ and ended up at a pylon only 130meters away from the cache. Decided just to bush bash, it looked ok to begin with but quickly became steep, slippery and bumped into some stinging nettle! Not recommended to go this way Made for some fun memories though TFTC
My phone was trying to point me towards the trees further up the track but that didn't seem right so I ignored it and went for the more logical option further down. Bit slippy in here! TFTC!
No GPS at all down here but I took a squizz at the hint before heading into the gully. Initial hunting gave me an unecessary water experience and a close call with stinging nettle bushes. Just a slight brush on my left hand. Found it in the end, much easier than I expected. Log in good nick. TFTC!
GPS not so great here so I had to put my caching brain in gear and where would I be if I was a cache here??? and hey presto there it was right where I thought it should be. Dobby had a drink and we were back on the track before they shut the gate and we had to walk all the way home!! still had two caches to get so hurry up was in order. tftc
Took a moment to find the best access into the trees but one found, I got to the cache soon enough. Nice & easy find. everything in order. TFTC
Early start this morning to walk the Dry Creek Loop before I needed to be home to paint the house. Whole area bathed in thick fog this morning and no views anywhere. Cache quickly located. Looks like some horses quite like this corner too given the evidence they left behind. This is find number five of nine on the Loop today. Thanks for the cache.
TFTc. Mel0n explored the stream, I found the Cache. TFTC - 2060m from car to cache to contribute to the distance element of the DGSC.
Found while on a walk with a group of friends doing the Dry Creek Loop walk. And we had a friendly dog with us. TFTC
After the rain last night and this morning it was no suppose to find dry creek was actually very wet! Sheltered here and really warm. Cache nicely placed, tftc
Doing the Dry Creek Loop track clockwise today made this the fifth cache already, with 5 more to go. We were glad to get out of the cold wind that was blowing while we were up in the open section. Didn't see any dogs today on the entire walk, nor any people for that matter. The cache was a simple find and all was in order. Not big enough for us to squeeze in a recently acquired TB though. The creek was far from dry today, not surprising given the amount of rain we had the day before. TFTC
A quick find while doing the Loop Track. However, the creek was certainly not dry. TFTC
Ah, this must be the stream that leads to the waterfall! Quick change in scenery from the sheep and magpies down to here. Followed the fresh geotrail to make the find. TFTC
Short scramble and cache quickly in hand. Cache in good order and pretty spot. TFTC
Nice day out geocaching with geo-friend Just-Lookin.

Today provided the ideal opportunity to have a romp around Dry Creek and the Belmont Park.
We sniffed this one out and got to GZ doggy style.
Cache in order, log signed; safely re-hidden, with some added camo and anchoring.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

walked right passed and missed this last time but found today. Got a TB for my effort and a large lump on my leg from slipping on the gravel stones.
Kicked myself for not reading the descriptions before I headed out tonight. If I had then I would have only spent a couple of minutes working out what Mahoe is, rather than about 15 mins of scrounging around. Got there in the end - TFTC
Did a cache-maintenance run on my own caches up here today, and after seeing some significant track changes at GZ for this one thought to check it. Cache all in good order, so swapped out Travel Bugs. Entrance to GZ has changed, and nearby bridge has gone, but cache remains in place.
#4727. No dog or muggle around here today. Nice walk and hiding spot.

Find #1536. Decided I needed a walk and this loop has been on my list. Thought it might be a bit wet after recent rain, so donned the boots. So glad I did as I tackled the MUD (there was a warning sign at the carpark). By this time I had carried an extra tonne of MUD on my boots a few times over and seeing the mess on this corner and the rocks all bulldozed to the side, I really wondered if this cache would still be here. But well done to Mattox69 who I have been following for finding and locating it far enough away from the track to avoid the destruction. Gave my boots a bit of a wash in the creek for what it was worth. Thanks Tramper Ted for offering the opportunity to walk this track - I bet there wasn't all that MUD when you did it! SL TFTC
Two words ...Holy Sh*t.
Getting to this cache was fun to say the least,MUD MUD everywhere.
Anyways,GZ was a disaster zone having had diggers /trucks fixing track after last weeks storm.
Hidey hole was gone but managed to spot Cache in the open.
Moved Cache to hopefully a better home approx 5mtr West at base of Mahoe Tree, hidden under log.
I will update Coords I took.
Hope this helps.

Track was a bit less user-friendly around here after the walk up to Puke Ariki ... here I come! Nice and shady though, which was welcome as the day had got sunnier and warmer while we walked.
Cache was a quick find for StreetWalker in the obvious spot.

#5022. A nice spot for a cache; wasn't hard to spot. Thought this would be a good place to leave the cache rat TB. TFTC.
There were no friendly dogs to be seen here this evening. However, I had passed a couple of friendly mountain bikers a short time earlier.
The cache was quickly found when I could see something that is of particular interest to geocachers but would probably be unnoticed by others.
I am really enjoying by trek this evening. TFTC.

Beautiful but windy day for bike ride. Easy find when you pay attention to the large clue!
Not sure it was a good idea but the water was well received as well as finding the cach.
Walked up here after work today. A pleasant spot out of the southerly. Cache was found without any problems. Headed back the way I came. TFTC
Stopped by while walking the loop track with the kids. The track was pretty sheltered from the blustery winds today, so a very pleasant walk. With the kdis in tow, this was a bit slower than my usual caching pace, so the 8.7km loop took 2hrs 50min at a fairly leisurely pace with a few stops to admire the views along the way.

All very quiet today as I walked around the loop track, only met 3 other walkers. TFTC
Found cache after a bit of a look around wish I had a friendly dog to help me sniff some of these caches out
After finding GC3W5TB Dry Creek - Loop-dee-loop (Wellington), it was time to head off to GC3XZY7 - Friendly Dog Corner (Wellington) which is the 4th of 5 caches that I had planned to get today.
Making my way around this loop clockwise made it so much easier as the gradient wasn't as steep as going around anticlockwise. Was quite surprise that I was able to make it around this loop a lot quicker than I thought that it would take, and in the end it only took 2 hours.
Finally making our way to GZ, agcnz soon spotted the cache even though we were a few metres away from GZ, as the hint was quite specific and we managed to spot the hint object from a distance. Found the cache and signed and return it as found before making our way down the track towards the last cache that I haven't found in this area. What a nice spot for a cache, thanks for placing it here and giving me a reason to walk this loop track again, TFTC TNSL (4898). Decided to drop of a trackable - Brayakaulung Travel bug for a short stay.

Needed to get some exercise so met up with Yeetrees at the car park and we walked the entire loop. I had only two caches left to find, he had all 5 of them to get. A very pleasant sunny afternoon with little wind, and we completed the circuit including finding all caches in 2 hours. This one was a quick find in the first place I looked, I could see it from a couple of metres away. Nice spot for a cache! Signed log, TFTC
FTF @ 7:10am !!!
After 36hrs and no find logged decided it was a pleasant-enough morning for a quick stroll before work. Didn't expect to find the logbook empty, but a nice fresh/blank first page awaited me. Quick find at GZ.
Fantastic to find another cache on this envigorating hill walk ... and i get the impression there may be more to come.
Watch out for the nearby ongaonga ... i'm still 'tingling' a few hours later, after the briefest of side-swipes.
