2nd find ever, from a very happy 7 year old. Thanks

11-May-24
Had a solid search around for this one. The hint is pretty specific and we think we were in the right spot. But no luck today. We did see a group releasing kiwis into the wild which was cool.

11-May-24
Not our day. We looked all around but don't know if it's there

02-Nov-23
Coordinates were off, we found it anyway. TFTC

Appreciate the excuse to come check this out. Some excellent flora P**n. For those so inclined. Appreciate the hint to minimise damage due to searching. TFTC

We have wanted to do the Oromahoe traverse since finding the two caches up "School Road" last year, so having two cars and drivers this time made the caching much easier. When we came back to collect the car we drove on down to the "Opua Kauri Walk" to search for this cache. Very straightforward and we were also extremely pleased to visit the superb Kauri further along the walk. Many thanks Fullofun you bring us to such great places.

After shifting my snail shell from Tokerau Beach to Kerikerinyesterday in the rain I decided to take the rest of the day off. Today I was doing a road trip in my cachemobile going north to Kaeo and then on towards Whangaroa. Just before Whangaroa I turned off onto Wainui Rd to visit Tauranga Bay, Te Ngaere Bay and Matauri Bay before heading back home to my shell.I went into Paihia thinking of doing the School Rd caches which I thought were on a road but sadly I was mistaken. So I decided to go up Oromahoe Rd to sign off the top two caches. This is an amazing walk amongst all thos kauri trees.Cheers for the cache, Fullofun.

Easily found while out and about with my brother tftc

First find! Completely by accident. Have had the app downloaded for years but never actually got the chance to engage with it! Was just on a road trip stop to see the Kauri trees. Made even better by finding my first travel bug!

Beautiful spot. Amazing trees

Great little walk on this well maintained track on a crisp Saturday morning. Cache took longer than expected to find, once we widened our search area it was quickly spotted. TFTC and bringing us so a place we didnt know existed. Found with Yvettetb

Wow what an awesome little stroll on a crisp Saturday morning along this well maintained track with lots of amazing Kauri trees. Cache took a little bit to find but once spotted was an easy find. Thanks for bringing us here as we wouldn't have found it without the cache. TFGC

1393. 10:26 am. I'm glad that Google 'street' view wasn't accurate for the start of the trail for this one; it now has ample parking, well signposted and an upgraded track. Quick find, but good camoflauge. Well worth another trip when whānau visit from overseas. FP. TFT(new Kauri track)C.

Nice lovely walk. Didn't take long before we spotted it

30-Dec-19
Nice walk, and a good find

22-Nov-19
No luck. Even shone torch to see if it had slipped down. New stoat trap at gz may indicate muggling.

22-Nov-19
Had a good look around with tassie expat while visiting from Australia but no luck. Fresh stoat trap at gz, possibly ranger found and removed cache. Thanks anyway, massive Kauri.

I was fully unaware that this kauri walk even existed, what a beautiful little track and the maurice at the end of the walk is stunning. Quick and easy find and a great way to kick the day off at 9am. TFTC

I liked the adventure of finding the Marmite jar! (Sophie age 5)

26-Mar-19
TFTC... and for bringing us to this glorious track. Lovely quick easy walk through the bush today.

The hint could be taken a couple of ways but worked it out in the end to gave cache in hand.

Cache in great shape... was hard to retrieve from its spot and just as hard to replace.

Only had time for this one track today but may return with the tangata whaiora to try the other tracks.

Road made me very queasy but the find made it all worth it

13-Jan-19

Thank you!

After making a dash up from Whangarei to try for some FTFs on the new Motuarahi Island and successfully achieving that, I thought I should at least try to find a few more around the Paihia area.

Due to SH 10 being closed by the big slip, I had journeyed up and back via Oromahoe Road, so on the way back, I just had to stop for a quick bush trek, even though it was late in the day and starting to get dim. A quick jog down the track saw me at the platform admiring the big kauri in less than 5 minutes and then it didn't take long to locate the cache in the hint location. The log was signed and then all replaced safe and secure as found. Thx for bringing me somewhere new that I would probably otherwise have just driven straight past. TFTC

After a day out and about with the family they decided they'd had enough and didn't want to leave our accommodation so with plenty of light still available I decided to visit the local forest for some excise and certainly got that after logging a couple of T$ caches I decided I still had enough daylight to visit the Kauri forest and wasn't disappointed as the tree at the end of the path was definitely worth the walk
Left a pathtag.
Thanks for bringing me to a place I would have otherwise missed

13-Jan-18
Grr Dnf! Had a disappointing day of dnfs, starting to think you Northlanders are too smart for me! DOC have placed two bait traps right by GZ, so the smell was something quite .... special! Dnf, but had a possible aha moment on the drive back. Hope to get back to the area soon to give it another try,

04-Jan-18
The rain added ambience to an already stunning bushwalk. We will need to come back though as forgot to bring a pen!!

24-Nov-17
I made this find a bit more difficult than it needed to be - following the great hint makes it all too easy. Found at 1320Hr on 24 Nov 2017

17-Sep-17
On my daily tour I discovered this nice walkway by incident. And when I saw a branche of a tree I thought there could be something more to discover. But I was wrong, nevertheless I found this nice Cache, thanks for the hint. And I am proud to be again the first in the new logging file.
Unfortunately I mixed up the dates, sorry.

11-Sep-17
Cache was missing so relocated to a new place. Coordinates have stayed the same!!! Maybe because of the trees!

14-May-17
Love seeing the kauri so though I'd revisit to stretch the legs after the Paihia funrun. Nice to see you at your normal Marshall station, faithful as can be! Sorry I hadn't read the logs, or would have come prepared with a replacement... I didnt see a hanging ( or any) cache nearby. Sadly, someone thinks toileting right next to the platform is acceptable :/ Sad
Interesting to discover the old track on the ridge above/ behind the platform...

26-Feb-17
Grrr. Second DNF for this one. We had a really good hunt after waiting for the muggles to leave and still no luck.

30-Oct-16
Checked it out. All good

16-Oct-16
After lunching at the duke and showing the town and beaches to a caching visitor from the states we made our way along the road. After hearing about this one at our Northland gathering the evening before I was intrigued as it sounded like a well worthwhile detour. And it was......a lovely walk into the viewing area and the trees were fantastic especially the big one...who knew they were there.......cache soon found. Thanks for bringing us here......fav from me for the walk and location.......

A lovely introduction to the majestic kauri. This is a very well groomed walk that offers a lot of surprising and spectacular greenery and flora. I really enjoyed this short "bush walk." Thanks for bringing me here! (and thanks to Tikitour for literally "bringing" me here.)

12-Jun-16
Cache was missing so replaced with a hanging one. Sit on the right side of the seat and reach!

31-May-15
No luck today. Had a real good look around GZ ,but it eluded us today.

12-Mar-15
Out with Lis's crew. Unfortunately the cache was not at the location. Lis's crew had found it previously so we decided to place one in the same place. The trees are magnificent. TFTC

11-Mar-15
Took my current travelling friend Vinny Vampire to visit. Cache had gone awol - see GraciesGPSfun's log. A gentle walk to relax the muscles after visiting Get Knotted and Tea Break. TFTC Smile

02-Oct-14
A fantastic forest. Loved all the kauris - especially the massive one at the end. My son was interested to learn the names of different trees along the route from his Grandpa. My daughter really loved the gravel road to get here. Logbook was wet and we forgot a pen so we took a photo instead. TFTC Smile

23-Aug-14
Found without coordinates or any other knowledge of the cache. I was there for the trees (nice little walk, the road up there is more adventurous, especially after the heavy rains) and had this hunch, thinking that this would be a great spot for a geocache. I looked around, and there it was. Smile

#847 After a very pleasant kayak out from Paihia and a ginger beer on the beach, it was time to go for a walk. This was our first stop and we were both very impressed with the walk- nice leisurely meander through the forest and then to be greeted by such a majestic tree- amazing! Found the cache easily as it was in plain sight so hide it better before leaving. Dropped off a TB and a Geocoin for further travels. Thanks so much for pointing out this place- I had no idea it was here.

Found the lovely cache on a little walk! TFTC! Smile

Beautiful place. We were here a few days earlier, but forgot to check for any caches, so did a quick return trip. Thankyou .

This is what we love about geocaching. We would never have found this amazing place and beautiful trees otherwise. Thanks to CO and DoC who have done a brilliant job in building this walkway. TFTC, a favourite point and we picked up the firsty TB and left a ray of sunshine SmileSmile

Slow Decay was going to be the nightime adventure for my 100th cache but a wasp nest drove us back. So out for a day exploring on my own this cache took me to the century. Turned out more adventurous than I thought. As a visiting Brit, I've come across gravel roads before but not with what seemed to me a rollercoaster camber on the bends as the Oromahoe Road. Driving a small car that I didn't know, I did wonder how much dusty gravel and how steep a camber it would cope with before sliding sideways off a bend, off the road and down the hill. Wuss! Actually the drive was easy as pie with no hint of slither or slide. Then an easy walkway to pick up the cache and a travel bug. TFTC.

Edit. My Kiwi friends tell me I am indeed a wuss, and there's no need to worry about handling the car on the bends. But bear in mind the possibility of a local coming at speed from the other direction!
