A beautiful winters day for a drive around the coast on a long weekend away from home. Came up the black jack road and stopped at this lookout. Found what we think is the cache and got some prickle cuts in the process. What an amazing view from here. This is truly a beautiful spot in New Zealand.

It’s it’s an empty cache then we found it. Have a trackable to place but this ain’t worthy. Needs maintenance or at least a log book

Had a bit of a look about and then malinkaly called out those magical words “Found it!”
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, Darby&Joan

Only the one up this track then turned around. There was a truck parked at GZ but that soon left.

Day 3 of our Coromandel visit and our last full day prior to heading back towards home tomorrow. We headed out nice and early this morning with a long-winded route to the TMGTs at Whiti the city and some more great scenery. Intent was to return via 309 kauri, but that got shelved and just picked a few off at each end instead.

Our last visit to the Coromandel was over 12 years ago so it was good to be back in the area after all of that time. We had spent Christmas away in Northland, and a quiet New Year at home before a 4 day/3 night stay in Coromandel town. We explored up the West of the peninsula up to Fletchers Camp, through the middle and across to the East coast of Whitianga and Whangamata, before heading back home 'via' Waihi Beach, where sadly that lady was killed by a shark whilst swimming, RIP. We found all available TMGT options, a few Earthcaches and saw some great sites and sights. Thanks to all COs for their caches here. We didn't do nearly as many as the Seagnoid and TB dragon whose steps we followed in on some days.

24-Dec-20
Had to come check out Black Jack Hill view and get this one tagged. Cheers.

Day 7 - Christmas Eve Thursday 24 December - Whitianga - Matarangi and back to Whitianga. So lets go exploring!

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

24-Dec-20
Ugh. Removed food items from the cache. Food attracts ants, wasps, rats, bears. not cool. Saw a trackable in the log.

Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!

09-Feb-20
Very nice view from up here. A bit hazy though today; might still be from the fires in Ozzie??? Easily found cache, although had to keep my nose blocked as it smelled like something died close by not too long ago...

07-Feb-20
We also were anti relieved to find it not by the toilet paper (likely French, they dont have public toilets). Gf's second find.

04-Feb-20
A bit toilet papery in here! But the camo was obvious from a short distance and we could pick our way to the cache. Another super viewpoint. TFTC

04-Feb-20
As we drove up the road from a convenient café stop we slid all over the place as the road had just been re-engineered and was slicked down heavily with water so there was a slurry under our tyres. But we made it to the top. At GZ we were relieved that the cache was NOT near the toilet paper. Future searchers please note.

24-Jan-20
Found while on my holiday in NZ. TFTC

22-Jan-20
Unfortunate timing for me to come looking for this one as something (probably road kill) has died nearby and what a smell!
Still the view is beautiful as always and the cache was well hidden yet a quick find. Tftf

07-Jan-20
We were staying at the campground at Kuaotunu, so popped up to grab this. Pretty windy so didn't stick around for long, but took a wee while to find, thanks

29-Dec-19
We were surprised by just how much traffic was on this road today, but the weather was great so why not look for some caches? Thanks for the hide.

happy to get this one after a DNF before us. TFTC!

13-Aug-19
Found the piece of wood where it should be Under and the small depression next to the Manuka tree but no cache to be found

11-Aug-19
Find number 5826. A previous visit did not produce a cache. So was passing again so decided to have another look. Checked where my phone told me to look but nothing. As I stood tall (well as tall as I can) i spotted something a metre away. Opened it to find it was what I was looking for. Signed it and placed it back as per hintt with a piece of wood on it to stop it walking. Thank you for the placement. Nice to get rid of that blue face on my map.

10-Aug-19
Easy find.

13-Jul-19
Decieded that today it was time for a bit of a road trip and the need to grab a few caches that were sitting in an out of the way location or three. So heading up here nice and early West of Coromandel Township for a few mainly along the roadside.
after the DNF's wasn't expecting to locate this one but about 5m out was a large pill bottle with previousley signed names in it with dates so signed and continued on my way. Yes there was an awful lot of rubbish about the place

Thanks for the placement, thanks for the cache

17-Sep-17
Day 2 -We had planned a big weekend with 6 of us travelling the Coromandel area and logging caches as team BOP. Found many great spots, several caches we replaced wet log sheets and others missing for some time. Lots of km's travelled on tarseal, gravel and some not so good roads. Lots of rained showers seemed to plague us on the first day. SLTFTC

17-Sep-17
With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, NZFlossy, TNXPro, and Philip.Perry… This is the first time we have cached overnight together. What an adventure… We group signed as Team BOP for efficiency and expediency.

We visited so many beautiful and remote locations on the Coromandel Peninsula. Many of these areas deserved to be hosts to caches. However, we encountered several that needed owner maintenance. Wet logbooks seemed to be far too common (We’ve had a lot of rain). Oftentimes, a sodden logbook was stuffed back into the container with a new, bagged logbook alongside (What's up with that?). And then there were some caches that were quite obviously missing (and have been for a while)… Nevertheless, a huge thank you to all of the COs for bringing us to these amazing places… We are determined to return and explore some more.

A great view here and a quick find. TFTC.

17-Sep-17
On a road trip with Team BOP and getting used to these gravel roads. We appreciate the beautiful spots you have placed the caches with good parking available TFTC SmileSmileSmileSmile

15-May-17
Last time I was on this road was in 1960 as an 11 year old on a family holiday with the family of 7 in rather large Plymouth Savoy. The road was much narrower. I remember the car just managing to get around some of the bends. There were no holiday homes. Great view from the cache location. Pity some people are inclined to throw their rubbbish into the trees.

02-May-17
Road trip around the Coromandel with lots of caches to find. What a beautiful spot, lovely white sand and calm oceans. Quick easy find. TFTC.

12-Jan-17
Great way to spend the day

19-Dec-16
Beautiful place

12-Nov-16
With the annual work fishing trip on this afternoon in Coromandel town, I thought I'd make a full day of it and head over first thing and make it a bit of a caching trip too. So I was out the door about 5.30am, with a general plan to find caches around the Whitianga and Kouatunu areas before heading over to Coromandel Town for the fishing trip.

A quick stop here while heading over to Matapaua Bay. A small search need to locate the cache.

08-Nov-16
Quick find during our drive from Cathedral Cove back to Coromandel Town.

Thanks for the cache and greetings from Frankfurt am Main, Germany
