Darwin to Adelaide Road Trip
Day Nine: Port Augusta to Gumeracha
Weather: perfect, but windy
Nobody else has commented on the unexplained doghouse nearby!
I wasn’t aware of this facility - poor Port Pirie - as if they didn’t have enough to worry about with the lead.
Thanks for the cache desertfox41.
It’s officially a mega - GCA1DNA “The Great Leap Forward”

Getting toward the end of our run picking up a few around the town. A very quiet spot to me hunting around the bushes. TFTC
A few days in Port Pirie with the muggle Mrs exploring the town and seeking out whatever hides I can.
All caches were is good condition unless stated otherwise.
One we would not like to search for in the dark. With all the road closures, getting to GZ was easy, getting back out through the off road area meant we went around in circles only to escape from where we once were. Took TB to move on.
Thank you for the cache desertfox41 Find Number 10625 on 5/07/2023

Happy caching and safe travels!
Happy caching and safe travels!
A very quick in and out as we tried to avoid the giant mosquitoes. They definitely look like they've been irradiated with something!
Mr matmobs grandfather worked at the factory many years ago. Thanks for showing us where it was.
Another cache found with richlink on our 2022 South Australian Adventure.
We are enjoying our time travelling SA. Fantastic towns, ruins, beaches and cliffs. Thanks to all the COs for taking us on a geo-guided tour.

Found on a trip to Crystal Brook and Port Pirie with Team Waldron for a few days. It rained steadily for the morning but gradually eased by mid afternoon. The aim for the weekend was to find as many caches as possible in the area which we accomplished with damp clothes, soggy shoes and a muddy car! Thanks for the cache desertfox41!
I was heading to Port Pirie to pick up my muggle sister and bring her home to Port Broughton where I was going to stay for a few days so of course I allowed myself plenty of time to pick up some caches along the way. [^]
Interesting history and a drive around the deserted streets to look at a few of the remaining derelict buildings. Then a quick find of the cache.
Thanks for the cache desertfox41.

Didn’t sign the log too hot to walk and didn’t want to meet any Joe Blakes, could see it from the car, but only cause we know what to look for. If a muggle looked they wouldn’t know. Sadly it appears lots of people discard rubbish here as well. TFTC
Found whilst in town for business. Cache and log book in good condition. No glo today! TFTC.
But if a wet and slippery drove to this one via the route we took. Stopped by for a quick find
After staying in Port Pirie last night, today Davidwazza and I set out to clean up port Pirie before making a long detour via Jamestown to gawler for an evening event. We had a few targets with a 2001 cache near Jamestown to collect and a few others. All up 68 finds for the day.
Thanks for the cache

This weekend, I joined gridge98 on a quick overnight trip to Port Pirie. The plan was to geocache around the town, and then head across through to Jamestown via Gladstone and Caltowie in order to find a unique hidden month oldie cache nearby. We then joined the geocaching community at the Gawler dinner event.
Today, we got up early and spent the first half of the day travelling around Port Pirie. A few highlights were the views of the lead smelters, the historic main street, and wetlands. Once a bakery lunch was had, we headed east, and found a few geocaches in Gladstone, Caltowie, and Jamestown. We then left some time to visit Bundaleer Forest Reserve for the 05/2001 hidden cache, as that was my last remaining available South Australian Jasmer grid caches. We then drove the few hours south to the international geocaching dinner Gawler event, before heading home.
A uranium treatment plant was here? That was something I wasn't aware of, and I'm surprised to see it hasn't been revegetated and refurbished, after being so many years? It is no surprise that the Port Pirie residents wanted some further action on this place. In terms of the geocache, the cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks desertfox41 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

On the way to Millicent Mega and detour and signed the log as EV and thanks for the cache and hide
Nomads travelling in their caravan around Australia. We have been on the road since July 2011 and discovered caching in August 2013. We travel with a bunch of travel bugs belonging to our sons and grand children.
In an effort to get to find #5000 at Millicent, we have to speed up and slow down our caching rate.
We set up camp in Port Pirie, and it started raining, so all caches were in and out and between showers...
We headed out to this scary spot and spotted from car. Thanks desertfox41

A quick drive by. We signed & dated the log then returned it back to its location.
So sad to see this back road is used as a dumping ground. There’s bags of rubbish strewn everywhere. It’s a pity people can’t or won’t dispose of their waste at a transfer station.

Out on a cloudy day with Shandyk and was lucky enough to have this as one of my finds for today. TFTC.
Found previously so just visited the travel bugs on a day out caching with Guz's Travellers - set up camp in Port Broughton for the week.

Last day in the region, just passing time until van fixed. Caches helping to fill in time. The places you visit while caching! . Tftc
Unexpected stay in pirie was a good excuse to grab a few local caches. Thanks for the interesting bit of history, TFTC!
The cache was found quickly. Maralinga is the site of the nuclear testing and that is where i am headed, i will say it is worth every cent you pay for the tour.
Day 1
Adelaide to port Augusta.
This trip saw me travel to Maralinga to do the tour of the nuclear test site then up the Googs track, past lake Gairdner on to Mount Ive station, then in to the Gawler Rangers and finally hiking up Mount Remarkable before heading home.

Bit of a wander with Purrfect Di, muggle Alex, Sebastbat and Jack today.
Nothing glowing here, but a neatly hidden cache.
Left a trackable, maybe it'll glow for the next person to move on!
Thanks for this cache desertfox41

Hi there desertfox41.
We found your cache **"GLO IN THE DARK ?"** at 12:32:00 PM today. (This makes our find count 16065).
Our trek today took us around Port Pirie following the "next closest" route plotted by the GPS. On our trek we found a variety of container types. We ended up finding 17 caches with 2 DNF's.
Thanks for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our travels.
###Thanks for not placing an eclipse tin or a 200ml Sistema here. Once upon a time caches seemed to be "regular" sized, and well stocked with goodies for kids to swap. Nowadays it seems like every other cache is small and devoid anything to induce children to enjoy the hunt. It made us feel really good to find this cache in a "special" place.###
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** A Smiley Badge.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Have booked into the caravan park for a couple of nights. We sure need it with the outside temperature of 45degrees.
After arriving we did some caching in the town area before returning to the caravan for lunch.
In the afternoon we headed north to Weeroona & then home by Scenic Drive. A great tikik tour of the area.

Working at Pt Pirie for a couple of days so after work I had time for a cache or two. Arrived at GZ and was attacked by the Mozzies so much so I had to retreat to the Geovan for the Aeroguard. The cache had been muggled, but not that long ago, as most items were dry but scattered about, I put them all back in the black container had re hid the cache.
3LG and I are caching our way to Whyalla to catch up with The X-Trailers .
We have several days in Pt Pirie to cache as much as possible.
A quick find and thank you for the history of this area.
It was a dark night when we found this cache and nothing glowed back at us!!!
It is many years since I have travelled around this area.

It has been a while since we have done some serious caching so we decided to head north with earthlight for a few days and meet up with The X Trailers in Port Augusta as they pass through there on their journey homeward bounds to QLD and cache along the way, we have set up camp in Pirie and plan on grabbing a few of the local caches around the area, a nice quick find for us. TFTC
Visited this location a few years ago with no1 son, before we started playing the game as well. This revisit reminded me that the multitude of mosquitos there last time had multiplied and gotten bigger, even in winter! Easy find however so time spent looking was minimal. Tftc
Spent the afternoon and night in Pirie after 5 weeks touring the West and North. There has been a proliferation of new caches since I last stopped in town. TFTC.
