All of the tracks leading to this cache are closed, some with fences some just with signs.
Got to within 60 metres but, Kauri Dieback Disease in the area, tracks up the hill are all closed. Probably needs disabling
Out with Nette1234 exploring this reserve. A short detour of the main track (also known as a bush bash) and we came across a few of the hint items. While Nette checked out some hint items, MrsJAG checked out some others and found the decent sized cache. TFTC
This is a good one--had to bush bash a bit to get here, then looked in a few trees before I found the cache in a location that seemed perfect for it. Interesting swag in here, all in great condition. FP for bringing me out here and for the D/T combination to add to my grid. TFTC
Made our way up the very steep hill and along the path to gz. GPS was all over the place so we searched a lot of trees until on our way back to the track we noticed one more which revealed this nicely sized cache.Cache is very good condition. Thanks for the fun adventure around this interesting area.
Kauri Dieback has closed Gills Rd reserve, so this cache is not currently accessible. Please see here: https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/parkmaps/map-gills-road-reserve-track-closure.pdf and here https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/parks-recreation/Pages/park-details.aspx?Location=1106
I had been here before and DNF'd. I saw some recent activity, so I made it a point to stop by again to see if I could get rid of the frown on my map.
I looked in many of the same places as before, then expanded my search to find the cache, which was 12m downhill from where my GPSr located GZ. TFTC.

#551. I just about gave up on this one, as it was getting dark, and I was getting covered in spider webs, and every tree I looked in was bringing up nothing.
But... eventually I found it. The moral of the story for me was, trust in thy GPS and thou shalt be rewarded.
The previous cacher's online log does not have a corresponding physical log. See attached photo.
Tonight I did a run around the Oteha Valley Road area and this was one of the caches I found. I had just as many DNFs as finds tonight, it was not a good night! And I finished up all covered in spider webs despite best efforts not to.
Thank you very much for the cache!

Not much more we can say that hasn’t already been said. Spent longer than we should have in the wrong areas but relatively obvious once found. The bike trails in the area certainly helped.
There seemed quite a few choices for Merlot and I, so we went from tree to tree to tree for quite some time before looked down and I saw Merlot at the most fitting spot to the description. Bingo ! Tftc
Pazza and I came at this cache from the wrong side and bush bashed unnecessarily, then went from tree to tree til I spied the good sized container. We found the clearing on our way out!
GPS was bouncing here for me. So had to go from tree to tree until found nice placed big container. TFTC
A quick find once I found the right tree ( which took a while)... and I wasn’t the only one hunting this morning! TFTC
We had found the earthcache so wanted to find another in the area - after having an issue finding the parking spot at first (our fault). We approached the cache from a couple of angles - and worked out afterwards that the first would have worked if we had persevered. We also spent time at the wrong spot thinking all the while it had to be wrong. Then Sobad looked a little way away and found the cache instantly. If we had gone the first way we would have walked past it - or maybe spotted it as we walked past. Regardless, happy to log a find.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Finally! This was our hardest one yet but we were determined not to give up. Now for an ice cream!
Fantastic cache. Struck right tree firsttime. Done after earth cache down the track. V humid! Cache in good condition. Left a travel bug. TFTC
The area was really, really muddy, so I slipped up and down for a while before I gave up. The hint didn't add up in my head, so maybe in drier weather.
After a long search came up empty handed on this cache but did find the trap that an earlier photo shows. Maybe when its a bit dryer will attempt again.
Thanks anyway.
Thanks anyway.
Geez! Had me looking for about 15 minutes!! Definitely had the wrong tree like many others hahaha, it's so blatantly obvious! Brilliant treasure trove of goodies.
I had been putting this cache off, because it seemed to hard! How lazy is that!! So I parked up at Gill's bridge and decided this cache would be targeted and the one at the trig. I set a track log for future reference, whatever that may be and off I went up hill. I managed to stay on whatever tracks there were without having to resort to any bush bashing. Once at GZ, I think I spotted several examples of the hints which I checked and rechecked. But I wasn't finding a large cache as expected, has it gone? Naaah just didn't look hard enough! Expanded the search, I walked right past the tree as it seems, cache was openly visible to people, but not me apparently Lol! So I signed myself in then started to wonder how to get to the trig! Cheers Zork for the cache!
Nice cache to visit while staying in Albany village this week. Dropped a trackable so it can visit the north a bit before heading home. Tftc; would have never come up here otherwise, nice to see a bit of bush still up this way.
Had just done the waterfall seat one nearby....so thought I would get this next !
Oh no...a total budh bash up a slippery hill
Anyway I was committed...so onward and upward ..the compass taking ages to go down to smaller numbers...Even crossed over a couple of tracks on way ..slipping ...sliding ...branches in my eye...finally found some puriris !
Yay ! Got it ! Lovely big container ...good camo on it .
Added some dinosaurs....Then found a patch of grass real close and an easy track out !
I should have realised...Zork hides are usually easily accessible ! Thanks for the adventure !

A few places to check but found after about 10 minutes a bit away from where my GPS was indicating. Fantastic specimen puriri. Tftc
#10654. We both ended up at GZ (though Troodles took a rather more scenic route). We inspected a few potential hint objects before finding the right one. TFTC.
After finding Seat by waterfall, we carried on up to this cache. Lots of tracks around here but we managed to navigate to GZ Ok, except I overshot a little and had to back track when I realised I was getting further and further from the cache. Even though most of the walk was in shade, I was pretty hot from the exertions and from the humidity.
We searched quite a few hint items until we find the right one. Fantastic looking specimens too. We had approached from a direction where we hadn't seen the clearing and it was only on finding the cache that we spotted it. Nice big container and nicely camoed too. Grabbed a TB which hadn't been logged into the cache. Thanks for the exercise and TFTC.

Nice cache. Was looking in the wrong area of trees to begin with, but persevered with success
We ended up with more city views than required, I had decided the cache would be up at the trig so off we went, quite a hill but no cache. GPS going a bit silly but soon found a few possible clue items, clever hide nearly missed it. Loved the nearby tree roots looked like a Giants foot or was that just lack of oxygen?
Climbed the hill after visiting the nearby Albany Heights Waterfall EarthCache to find this great hide in a beautiful setting. Earned the Smilie with that climb tho. TFTC
Kiwiscot & Kiwi out enjoying an afternoon chasing a couple of caches for our daily streak. Very enjoyable walk through native bush down from the Albany Geo Station. Garmin GPS on the blink so we were relying on the phone which struggles in the bush. Figured out whereabouts we needed to be then began searching hint objects. Cache tracked down quicker than expected. Large spider on cache container when removed which had Kiwiscot jumping for safety. Spider returned to the tree and log signed. All in good knick.
Last summer the idea was born to visit [Green]'New Zealand'[/Green], together with [url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url]
After some important decisions regarding the beginning of our trip, the flights, the general route and the car were made, the most important question was still unanswered: which caches can we visit during our tour [?]
To get an answer for this topic I was fetching almost every cache from both islands [8)][:X]
[url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] and I love [Teal]'Geo-Arts'[/Teal]...so we added all these cache series to our wish list
After this decision was made this list was more than 300 puzzle caches long...unsolved puzzle caches
Two weeks before Christmas it was getting time to start solving all these mystery caches
Even with the different language I could find almost every solution
In the case I was not so successful I was contacting some of the CO's...and was always getting help from them...many thanks for this support [:X]
During the following weeks our cache list was growing and growing...meanwhile more than 1000 caches long...too long for a simple bookmark list from GC
Time to get our route and caches in sync...time to save the PQ's to our Garmins...time to start this holiday:
Chapter 29: [red]Dargaville[/red] to [blue]Auckland[/blue]
On our way to this mega city we were looking for some interesting caches in the suburbs
This cache was one of them
I would like to thank all the cache owners for showing us these great places and maintaining all these caches,

Ahhh I should have know. It was way to hot to go for this cache, but yeah me is crazy (sometimes). Was happy to see the tree still holding the carefull hidden cache.
Left a TB, which I couldnt' find on geocaching by the way
Left a TB, which I couldnt' find on geocaching by the way
interesting spot.. seemed to be a lot of nesting going on above.. lots of poo below.. and Gin traps? attached to the big tree roots..( lucky the one we found had been triggered - but i thought they where no longer in use? particularly so close to a track and residential? brutal!)
In hindsight we should have parked by the panel beaters. And stuck to the path!! Went over the grass and retrieved the cache then decided to follow the path we crossed, which we thought was a loop walk but discovered it wasn't! Ended up walking for 1.5hrs! (But the dogs didn't mind). Nice area we would not have been to if it hadnt been for this cache, so thank you very much! TNLN but saw a travel bug...
We really liked this container. Big, dry, and very well fitting the hiding place. Spotting was a bit too easy (from a distance) so we improved the natural camo. Might be that the old camo was blown away by the dramatic storm on Tuesday. Left the jeep TB for the next cacher but took the "SPRING". As there was plenty of room we left the walking smurf to wander around in the cache.
Was up in Auckland collecting caches with a couple of mates. A great day but my legs were sore after all the walking.
Out early in the morning with a few caches on the list accompanied by Nova Lightning.
Great trees from up here, as really good specimens of their type, thanks for bringing us here.
Quickly located while on our way to collecting a few caches around the Albany area

We had been FTF on the multi that finished here so knew where we were going this evening. All the same I had forgotten just how steep that climb was! Pleased to be doing it in the cool of the evening. Thanks.
Thankfully there is a roadside map with what is where, so made the journey in to GZ quite easily. Super quick find. Could see the views on my return, vastly different I imagine from a decade or so ago. TFTC.
For such a big cache, I don't know how I missed it for so long. I guess I just wasn't looking in the right spot! Thanks Zork V.
Well it sure has turned dark now for my evening of caching. Luckily I had packed a torch as I couldn't resist making the climb up to this cache. I didn't get a chance to find the predecessor as the WP was missing the day I found the nearby earth cache. When I got to GZ I zigged when I should of zagged and spent I few minutes inspecting the wrong spots. Soon back tracked my steps and spotted the cool caching container. Now to find the clearing and check out the night time views. Took a different track out so I could collect a certain ammo can on the way back to the car. Nearly slipped over a couple times on the dew covered grass. Cheers for the night time adventure!
12598...
We remember finding the predecessor a few years ago... the views have changed a little since our last visit, TFTC.

Found the trail up from the waterfall, so just ploded along until we got to GZ. Thanks.
Today, we decided to return to Albany following the Mega weekend to grab some of the caches in the area that we had previously missed.
It took awhile to narrow down which trees were needed to find this cache! Luckily the dead possum wasn't there anymore.... TFTC

Find 16 of 17 for the day and #1556 in total.
This one gets a favourite point from us.
Tried to get here from the earthcache below a couple of days ago with no luck then again from GC44898 today with the same result...
Not to be put off we kept driving around till we found a way over the creek and we were glad we did, it's a well done cache.
Now on to the next one up...
Echo 10 - Spice 6

After a huff and a puff up the hill we landed at GZ and after a small search we found the well placed cache. Nice job on the camo

A long walking day with Adventure Collectors at the Mega. Climbed the hill and after a short search, had the cache in hand. TFTC
After carrying on down the hill we decided to have a look for this one. Had a couple of likely options, including one that contained a somewhat recently deceased possum but after a short search the cache was in hand. After showing teotocchi how to open a container we signed the log and then carried on down the hill. TFTC
Tried the multi last year - had a DNF and the next day it was republished as a multi.
Nice to come back to this reserve.
Easy find this time.

Not a twist top lid. Blonde trap. Found and opened by evilno9, who also found a possum and spared me the gory description. Very enjoyable spot TFTC
What a slog up the hill to get to this one. Once at the GZ the cache was quickly at hand.
Fear this cache is not as well hidden as it used to be with a bike track been cut through the trees by some keen local sportsmen

Worth the walk for the great views. Mega 2013 Sunday. Great day with other caches.
Found together with KiwiLeon. Seem to recall another cache around here a while back. Made full use of teh acces road and parking as legs were getting tired from a few days long walks. T4TC
Up in Auckland for the Mega, we took a little walk with Teams Skullracing, Crouze and Troobloo to have a go of this one! Was a nice walk, but a few of us got a little puffed out on the way up and stopped to let the boys grab this one! TFTC Zork V
In Albany for the MEGA.
Had a lot of fun trying to locate the "car park". Eventually got to park there and then it was an enjoyable short stroll to GZ. Nice camo and hide.

After visiting the nearby Waterfall, we decided to pick another close by. (Wish we had time to do them all)
We walked around and started heading up the path, well at first we thought we were walking up someone's driveway
As we walked us girls were getting a little puffed so we sent the boys the rest of the way while we pulled up a but of grass and took a seat [^]
As we sat I could smell the nice fresh peppermint that was growing in the middle of the track, had a taste and it wasn't bad Thanks for the nice experience Zork V

Parked the cars near where the lab caches were and wandered down to the nearby earth cache.
Strolled up to the bridge and down the lane. Easy this is. Started to climb and a few of our team members (women) decided to have a sit down as the rest of us climbed.
It got quite steep towards the end but finding the cache was the reward we were after.
Once signed we enjoyed the easy return.
Another Zork V cache conquered.

#4818 We had just visited the waterfalls and decided to continue on on foot a little further. We wandered up the track hoping that we had not inadvertently strayed onto private property however it did not seem to be the case. The boys continued up whilst the girls got most of the way up decided to stay where the mint was in the shade. As is our way, the hard way was taken in and the easier exit found.....eventually. Our thanks to Zork V for encouraging us up here for a wee bit of exercise. Cheers [^]
Auckland Mega Event 2013. Saturday and a fantastic day of caching planned alongside KiwifruitsNZ with the objective of reaching my 1000th find during the weekend. This was find # 958 on that journey. Took s while to find the route in but got there. TFTC
Escorted part of the way to the cache by a couple of Wellington cachers, but when their ladies showed up with a picnic lunch they deserted us. They did give us directions to the proper cache path though and we had a great walk up the hill for a city view. Left some swag and launched our travelbug on its way. Favorite point for the nice location and container.

I really enjoyed the original multi that was there, it was one of our first cache and very creative. I remembered the climb, this time Master FriwiNZ did it all by himself no need for papa's shoulder TFTC
First day of the NZ Mega event - a day which saw KiwifruitsNZ aim to secure 7 different caches in a day, whilst at the same time making the most of the Mega event (welcome bingo through to trivia to flashmobs to night caching at Muriwai beach!).
Thank you to Vamber and MuzzaL53 who accompanied us on many of our caches today - some good laughs and amusing stories that will prevail well beyond the event!!!!
After stopping for a bite to eat, decided to secure this cache. Took a while to find the right GZ, including stumbling across a dead animal, but once GZ located, cache was easily secured. Picked up a trackable from Itchy and Scratchy as well.

Now that's what I call a great cache
All the elements, bit of a hole in, sufficient difficulty in locating the right tree, dead possum in Gin trap to throw one off the scent, so to speak -:)
Creative big Zork type of cache, well done
Nb watch for Gin and Beer traps as its approaching Beer season.

Our 2,498th find. A grunty walk up but good hint. Really nice hide - a fav for that and the fair d/t. Glad to have the heads up about the possum trap and glad to find it empty. PINO TFTC
Although this cache is reasonably close to home we had not attempted to find it before. On researching the access point we found the track to GZ easily. It was a good climb to GZ and after initially looking at the wrong specimen the cache was soon spotted. We can recall seeing this container before. Take care and watch the children around one of the trees close to GZ as there is a new spring loaded possum trap set. TFTC.

Had been raining for a few days but today was lovely and sunny, felt it was a good time to grab this one, as weather was due to close in again.
Good thing I had found it's predecessor and as GPSr would have had me 18m off.
On the way up I walked along to have a look at the waterfall, as have always come here during summer, hadn't seen the falls so full from the recent rain. TFTC

I was trying to remember which tree it was that I visited when this was a multi. So I just searched anyway.
Cheers for the cache.
Having found this one when it was a multi, I was not sure if by finding this cache again it could be considered a find. So after slogging up the track to the gz I found that the cache was still in its multi cache position and I thought, what the hell, it cant hurt to sign the log again now that its a traditional cache. So I did.
What a drama this one was! With the GPS jumping about, I suddenly realised: I didn't know what a puriri tree was! So, I checked that, and started looking for ones that matched the hint. I spent ages around two pairs that closely matched my GPS, to no avail. I was really sure I had the right spot, but nothing was visible, despite being attacked by spider webs, ferns and some unknown insect thing. I checked the description again, and yeah....i could not blame the small size. This is a substantial cache. I wandered about for a bit more, poking and prodding....as well as muttering some flowery and unmentionable language to myself. I was about to chuck a sulk and give up, when I decided to check another tree........and there it was. NINO. This was a great spot and I was very pleased to have found it in the end! TFTC, Zork. This was a good one!
Great afternoon adventure for the nephews, Nana and I. We retrieved both the TB's - we'll send them each in different directions. 21/365. TFTC
So many puriri trees!! Nice walk to GZ after consultation with the owner about the best path to take. Need a few regular caches so nice to collect this one today. Thanks for another great cache.
First time I came last week I forgot the gps!I often walk here tho so good excuse to return.Didn't realise there were so many puriri trees here-nice big container -tftc
