Stayed near Stratford last night and drove along the Forgotten World Highway to Whangammona today, picking up six caches along the way. This was the last of them. Drizzling all morning but fortunately mostly on the light side. After arriving in Whangammona we had lunch at the pub (good feed!), then went to look for this cache. Had to get down and slightly wet to get to it, but at least it was a relatively quick find! #8023. TFTC.
My partner and I had a rare day off together and with the kids all at school we thought why not have a road trip and get lunch in the Republic of Whangamomona. Over some yummy wedges and nachos the conversation turned to how i hadn't been geocaching in ages. Before i knew it i had loaded the app, found a pen in my handbag and we headed off down the road for his first find. Safe to say he is now hooked and we ended up with 8 finds and 1 DNF for the day. We really enjoyed learning the history and taking in the views. Thank you for placing these caches and showing us our country. This was find 1/9 today. Nice and easy although very slippery. Very impressed with the nearby artist's talent.
Had a great trip into the Republic of Whangamomona with Hubby and Geohounds. Lots of travelers on Bikes and a classic car tour so had to be stealthy. Great cache. Thanks
Auf unserer 3 wchigen Tour durch NZ, haben wir auch den Forgotten Highway gemeistert. Ein kurzer Stop durfte nicht fehlen in der kleinen Republik.
What a wonderful piece of land along the Forgotten World Highway. We really enjoyed the way and the beauty of the nature. The small town was our break point, unfortunately the hotel is closed for Monday to Wednesday during winter season, so beside finding this cache, we missed the coffee Our day ended in new Plymouth, unbelievable that people are surfing in this weather conditions.TFTC #427
Glorious morning in the Republic today. Stayed overnight in the spectacular Millhouse accommodation, highly recommended! Stopped at the hotel to get our passport stamped, as you do, then zipped down the road and found the cache. Many thanks.
#2398 (Tontako Team) Kia Ora from Spain! We found this cache during our New Zealand / Aotearoa holidays.TFTC
Found on a glorious morning on a trip through Easter. Found with jkb97. Enjoyed an evening at the hotel. Cache in good order. TFTC
First find of day two while playing support crew for some cyclists riding the forgotten highway. Nice to have some caches to fill in our time between check in spots. Another great day weather wise. All good here. Watch out for dodgy decking timer on the end of the bridge. Tftcsl
I have the week off work so have come up to Taranaki for a couple of days or so for caching, tackling the Forgotten Highway and hopefully finally knocking off the E174 challenge that I signed some years ago. It's been decades since my one and only previous visit to the Republic (and I don't think we stopped on that occasion). Nice to take a break. All good here and TFTC.Find #6558 at 20 March 2024 12:55 pm

The only way I could do that was if you had to do a little more work on the front door
Our road trip continued and we went from Stratford to the Tongariro National Park. But first we visited Mount Taranaki. Then we took the forgotten highway SH43 - really amazing views and finally reached the Tongariro National Park where we stayed in a hostel. We loved this area! So proud that we have now a passport from the free republic here [:o)] After having a nice coffee and cake in the hotel we went a bit through the town and came along this location. It was no problem to find the cache. Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache.Happy hunting!TFTCschnuckel1[#24174]

Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA JOURNEY takes us to beautiful places and provides us with an incredible number of wonderful moments and experiences.Occasionally we also visit a few GeoCaches along the way.On the journey from Stratford to Owhango via SH 43, we made another short stop here to enjoy a delicious coffee. As there was no train on the way, we were able to sign the guest book undisturbed......Thank you for placing, maintaining and caring snapfish2 from SwitzerlandPS: Translated with the Deepl app

Day 15: Through the Forgotten WorldTodays journey was a challenging one, leading us through the Forgotten World Highway through to Stratford and onwards to the Taranaki Region. We were sidetracked by the closure of the Tarangakau Gorge for most of the day, so we detoured through some back country roads in the rain. Truly an adventure, and not without a few caches despite the desolation of the landscape around here. Thanks for all the caches that made this adventure even more interesting. (End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for this cache:We stopped here for lunch and to soak in the vibes of the Republic, and I stepped out while waiting for the food to arrive to pick this one up. The terrain around GZ was a slight bit tricky after the morning rains, but I managed to navigate to the correct spot to get the cache. Easy find of the big box thereafter, TFTC!
found in the forgotten world. Nice street through interesting landscape and a nice old restaurant in the capital.TFTC

An early start for kiwitrecker1 and I as we were excited to continue our road trip. Last night involved a visit to the hotel where we were able observe some wild food delights and a solid win to the All Blacks. With a clear head once again the cache was quickly located. TFTC!!
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are currently parked up at the Whangamomona Camp Ground after an uneventful drive in from Hawera towing our 9.5m caravan … decided we’d go for a walk around town checking out the old historic buildings … this cache was easily found, the area being ‘muggle’ free at the time, log-book completed, picked up the two travel bugs & safely returned the cache to it’s position … then on to the World Famous ‘Whangamomona Hotel’ for a feed & to purchase our ‘Republic of Whangamomona Passports’ … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,431 for us!
Today we went from Stratford to Tongariro via the Forgotten World Highway. Along the way we made a few stopps to enjoy the views and the nature. And of course we also made a stopp to visit the Republic of Whangamomona. T4TC and greetings from Bonn in Germany

Cheers! Last time I was in Whangamomona was as a little girl, probably no older than 8 years old… now I’m 29! Still looks the same as I remember though!
The forgotten world highway, one of the best route’s for cycling . Thanks for a cache in this amazing area. ️tftc
On our way along the Forgotten Highway we stopped in this lovely little town and enjoyed looking around - and the cache of course. It's in perfect condition. Thanks!
On a trip via the forgotten highway to explore Ruapehu and the surrounding area, daft not to seek a few caches en-route! This will have to be the last cache and dash for this journey because time is tight.

It is a real pleasure to visit a cache for the first time, 10 years after we laid it, and find it in good condition. This hide has lasted well, and it was found in exactly the spot we hid it, tidy and dry.
After restocking the swaps, and replacing the rather worn pencle and missing sharpener, the box went back ready for the next searcher.

Would have been not been happy if I hadn't found this one. Such an iconic town. Thanks CO for your placement. Overnight at the Whanga camp and dined at the pub. Great crowd in town to watch the Black Ferns beat England women in the Rugby world cup. Both teams were winners incredibly hard fought game at Eden Park, Auckland.
#983 the few spots on the Forgotten World Highway that has reception, so of course, a cache is in order. After wandering around the village and reading the Heritage signs, this cache was easily found. Definitely a cool place, made better with a cache. TFTC
We hadn't thought to check for opening times for the pub so were lucky we were here today on Thursday as it would have missed lunch if we had been here yesterday. Lots of chat with others also visiting and the road workers whose work with filling potholes we appreciated. Enough time for Mrs to find the cache while SoBad waited at the pub. We are pleased we opted to get from Taupo to New Plymouth the long way.
Thanks...
