Despite the heat, we hiked and read each informative plaque. I am impressed how the indigenous people used parts of many plants for their health and well-being, and smiled at the making of boomerangs as toys from the ghost gum because "it didn't hurt when it hit you"! TFTC
OCW PelDroedGwin Visiting Derby for a few days. We werent too keen on a long walk in todays heat so we looked for an alternative entry point.A 200m bush push was even less appealing. As we headed (diagonally) for the main road we spotted the orange trail that would take us on a lovely meandering walkway to GZ. So glad caching brought us here, its lovely. Tftc
Ocw the Bebes as we visit Derby. I nice but hot walk today to collect this one to finish off all geocaches in Derby. Tftc
GotchaWe scrub bashed for about 200m Thanks for bringing us out to the wonderful piece of natureTFTC
A caching trip from Canberra, ACT to Cape York, Qld and then around the gulf to East Arnhem Land, NT then over the top of WA to Perth.Interesting detours to Thursday Island, Mabuiag Island, Mornington Island, Doomadgee, Hells Gate, Nhulunbuy, Wadeye, Litchfield Nat Park, Wyndham and the Gibb River Road.TFTC.Firstly decided to do this from the main entrance. Saw on the sign a way past the speedway to a path at the north west end. There is no path through the speedway. Decided to drive all the way around and drag the van down the 4x4 track. Got to the path. There is no path.200m bush bash and the cache was finally found.
Another warm day 34C at present, but keeping the step count up. Add a little bush push, too, and we arrived at the old Boabs once resting place. Thanks for the cache.
Drove a bit closer looking at the satellite map and once a gz it was a fairly quick find, tftc!
A quick find once at GZ.An interesting walk that I wouldnt have known about if it wasnt for this cache.SL TNLN TFTC
We walked the hardest possible way to this cache, because we came from the Derby Wetlands cache. Only after arriving at GZ and seeing a random sign, walking to the sign we realised it was on a trail, so had our good driver meet us at the trail entrance instead. Interesting to learn some stuff about the Boab tree. TFTC
Okay, this was quite an adventure. We saw 5 wallabies, lots of birds, a lizard, fortunately we didn’t see a snake! We took the red trail all the way to the orange one and found the cache, this was an very interesting contraption at the Boab crater. This cache allowed me to see many things at Derby. Attached spoiler photo
Wow I did not think we would manage this on due to limitations of a hire car coupled with a 37 degree day but we managed to park up about 200m away & bush bashed in. Scratched & sweaty we found our prize. Left a TB & a pathtag. TFTC Derby Bush Rangers
We went to look for this monday we could find the long way in, but not the short track. Maybe next time we are up this way
Sorry for the late log, still catching up.
In the area for work and couldn't help slipping away from the others to find some caches.
TFTC and bringing me to this great spot Derby Bush Rangers!

Staying in Broome for a couple of days so we decided to go for a drive to derby and grab a few caches along the way. Drove to within 309 metres then had to walk the rest of the way. The mozzies were horrendous so thankfully the cache was quickly spotted and we got back to the car quickly TFTC
We headed back up to the Kimberley for a much needed escape, being a couple of years since our last visit we had a few green dots on our map, so our mission was set to cleaning that up and turning them into smiley's, happy to say we came up trumps here and walked away with a smiley TFTC
200m straight through the bush after trying to get there by 4x4 got a few scratches. Now to get back!
Did the full circuit to get to the cache and return to the car. Only hope our memory is good enough to remember the fauna. TFTC
Second time lucky with this one. Massive thanks to Derby Rangers for cleaning up the trail. Last time I hiked this it was a real battle, today was a pleasure.
Logbook is falling apart, so might be due for a replacement, otherwise cache is in good condition

In Derby for a couple of days after completing the GRR and it was a pleasant walk around here reading all of the signs.
I now know what happens to the old Boab trees when they are finished.
A great hiding spot.
Thanks Derby Bush Rangers TFTC

Found the location after some hard Bush bashing. Couldn't find the cache at all.
Aft e r nearly getting bogged on the track we decided to gove this one a miss.
Out with m4yb and the Two+Four team on the Gibb River Road. First cache as we get close to Derby for more supplies. Nice to grab this in the morning.
Thanks for the hide & smiley
Thanks for the hide & smiley
Out and about with Megawat60 and MY4B on our northern adventure to conquer the mighty Gibb River Road and claim caches as we go.
A bit of bush bashing involved to get this one. Maybe should have taken a waypoint of the car. TFTC

Day 10 of The Northern Adventure with megawat60 and Two + Four. After camping overnight at Nullibubica Freecamp we headed ito Derby before starting on the Gibb River Road. Here after a smallbush bash, Mr 2+4 made the find, SL, we checked out the ex-boab crater before heading back. Thanks for this cache!
On our trip from Geelong Vic, up the centre to Darwin and now in derby and sitting for a few days.
We cache along the way and wonder what the muggles see as we get to stop at some pretty awesome places. It has been 6 months since we began, we have seen a lot, done a lot and caches along the way
This was hard to get into and very hard to find

The Big Western Australia trip in 2018. Day 18. After not being able to go on a Horizontal falls trip I cached around Derby taking in highlights like the Prison tree and the Wharf.
This was a bit of an adventure. I went to the main car park to find a map showing another access point. Off I go. Nice walk in slightly overgrown bush and a cache out in the middle of nowhere. A great area to explore.
Thanks.

So ironic that such a big tree leaves only a hollow and the creation myth about boabs is that they the most beautiful tall proud tree in the land. Their pride ended with them being cursed to grow upside down and are now the ugliest tree. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I see them as beautiful and characterful. The pride preceding the fall should be heeded by all. TFTC

Second find for the day. We are still wandering around northern Australia from one side to the other after attending the Red Centre Experience. Today I decided to get out early to beat the heat and walk some of the tracks around Derby. TFTC TNLN SL
A very long walk from the Red car park but we found it. Thanks Derby Bushrangers.

A quick find once I had he correct coordinates plugged into the GPS. The supplied coordinates are wrong / out by about 28 mtrs, so future hunters should look for the correct ones. The CO hasn't been around for some time so is not likely to be correcting them. SL - no swaps. The container and log are both in good condition. Thanks for the cache.
tftc,
Today is day 32 of an adventure that will take me around Australia with a group of trackables as we now head south towards Perth. My caches visited can be tracked by checking out the Key Ring using the code TB4P4C1.
Today was a rest day. The truck is all healthy again and we used the afternoon to clear the local caches. Walked past this one and searched for a while before looking at the old logs and finding new coordinates. Should have slowed down and read the signs. Read them all on the way out. A favorite.
As a part of my contribution to helping make the "Easter 2017 Red Centre Experience" GC6825Z a great Event, I will be leaving a card in every cache that is large enough to take it. This card provides a number for a trackable so you can "Discover me". There is also the Web page address "red.ozmega.com.au".
Happy caching.

Found with Wazza9 today, took a while to find, before reading the old logs and seeing that there were new coordinators, signed log and replaced. Thanks to Derby Bush Rangers.
Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival at Perth airport followed by a day cycling around Rottnest Island before travelling on to Adelaide where we met up with our friends. We then continued on to spend some time on Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne, cramming in as much as possible on route. The second leg of our journey was a fabulous 9 days in Tasmania. Having then returned to Melbourne we set off on the third leg of our journey, which was to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach, Thredbo, Canberra and Fitzroy Falls. We then spent a few days in Sydney with geocaching friends before flying on to the Gold Coast for the fourth leg of our travels, that included visits to Lamington National Park, Noosa and an overnight trip out to Fraser Island. We then flew from Brisbane to Cairns, where we spent a couple of nights before heading out to the birding hotspots of Yungaburra and Daintree. Following on from a visit to Cape Tribulation we turned to Port Douglas. After a day out on the Great Barrier Reef we returned to Cairns for the flight to Alice Springs and the fifth leg of our travels, which was a wonderful week driving the circuit to and from Ayers Rock in our 4x4 camper. On returning to Alice Springs we then flew on to Darwin, where we picked up another 4x4 camper. We are currently making our way towards Broome via Kakadu, Cooinda, Pine Creek, Edith Falls, Katherine, Nitmiluk, Timber Creek, Lake Argyle, Kununurra, Emma Gorge, El Questro, the Bungle Bungle’s, Fitzroy Crossing, Geikie Gorge, Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge and Derby. Our last two nights in Australia will be spent in Broome before we fly back to Perth, from where we will connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!
Unfortunately we didn't have time for a leisurely stroll and so we took a fast power walk instead, stopping to take photos of the interesting information boards on the way so that we can read at leisure later on!

Found this on a hot stroll today. Didn't take much searching to find when I got there since it was right where I thought it would be. Most logical spot. Nice walk learning about the trees while staying in Derby for a couple months.
Found it today with the Morling Mob. Their second of many caches I suspect! Nice walk through bushland with informative info boards. Thanks derby bushrangers for this cleverly hidden cache.
What a grand old boab this one would have been in its day. Good to see that is children are living on in the area. TFTC
Today we explored Lawnton and surrounds using geocaching as a guide. Like others we found the cache to be 32 meters away, our co-ords were S 17' 20.368 E 123' 39.435.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

True, the co-ords are well off, but when you get there, you know you're looking for a crater, and there's a sign telling you! Normally I'd be the first to complain about wobbly co-ords, but this is so obvious. Don't know what all the fuss is about. Thanks to the Derby Bush Rangers for the lovely walk in the bush on well marked trails.
CRICKEY! Coordinates are out by 32 metres! ( others have noted the very inaccurate coordinates) Found eventually when I found that string. Interesting facts though, thanks.
In Derby for a working holiday, we thought we'd grab a few caches while we're here! This one was the last of four caches for the day. It was a lovely walk, full of interesting information. We've spent plenty of time in Derby before, but we'd never been on this walking trail before, so it was good to spend some time there. The cache took a bit of hunting due to the coordinates being quite inaccurate, but we found it eventually! Took nothing, left nothing. TFTC!
Did the walk and eventually got to gz. GPS co-ords were out but did a bit of searching and found it. Another spot we would not have come if it wasn't for caching. No mugglers whilst we were searching but met some people on our way back. Tftc

A quick drive around Derby while on a stopover before heading west towards Broome.
Hardly any muggles around and some good quick finds, before it starts to get hot again.
It's very warm around here, especially for the end of June!!!
Thanks for the cache Derby Bush Rangers,

We went early this morning and parked at the Joonjoo carpark as suggested by the CO. We read the signs and started on the walk. We absolutely loved it. So many tracks on the trail. Very interesting and informative signs. Saw quite a few wallabies and heard lots of birds. The whole loop took us one and a quarter hours. Half way around we came to GZ and were amazed at the crater. Then found the cache and had to smile. The whole experience was very deserving of a favourite point. TFTC . We did plug in the amended coords, but when we got there we just walked straight to the obvious spot.
Coords are too far out for 'a bit of a widened hunt' so should be changed for others to find it. The more finds the better.
This was a very difficult prickly affair due to trying to follow Ian and Penny's log. We found a fire trail but we ended up on the wrong side of the cache (we didn't know that of course). Mr M battled 200m through the bush and came out on a track. Of course!! Don't we always?? Anyway the coords from them are very accurate so he found it quickly once there. TFTC
On our way from Perth to Darwin we saw many great things and places - many of them thanks to geocaching! We thank the owners for sharing their favorite spots with us by hiding their caches!
Second try still didn't find it Then gps batteries went flat so had a nice walk back to car maybe third time will be lucky Thank you Derby Bush Rangers
This was our 1st cache find in a caching run of 2 Finds & 0 DNFs today.
We found it at 08:16 so this now makes our total find count 7027.
[blue]
Drove around looking for the start point of the walk and ended up on a fire trail only 350 metres away, so it was a quick 10 minute walk to GZ
[/blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: Shocking (Around 27 metres, see attached coordinates.).
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Nothing

Out for a bike ride thru town to this lovely park and to the GZ, signed log and continued down the track to the prison tree. Great ride and interesting piece of nature. TFTC
A nice walk through the bush to this one after going along sandy tracks we agree with Chan 5456 the coords should be 17d20.368`S 123d39.435E but still good to find. TFTC TNLN
A great little walk to the cashe through the bush saw a kangaroo in the bush just 15 feet away he was checking us out what a thrill then at the geozone a very informative sign about the boab tree was a real learning experience this morning had to think outside the circle as we didnt want to be tied up too long in the heat today we came up with the cache thank you for bringing me here and teaching me about the unique trees in this area

But we did finally and found the cache nowhere near the co-ords given.
Just had think why we were there.
Nice cache though.
I reckon the correct co-ords are 17d 20.368'S 123d 39.435'E

...........................As we were coming into the area we were passed by some youths in a 4x4 who were hooning around the muddy tracks, our next cache was not too far away so we headed off in that general direction to try to find “Goodbye Boab, GC42YBD”. We drove down the muddy tracks and very quickly came to large puddles going right across the track, we stopped and considered our options and decided to give it a go, we surged across the puddle keeping to the side to avoid becoming bogged in the centre, deeper part, and popped out the other side. Fired up with adrenaline and having successfully crossed a large puddle we kept going through many more, slowly picking our way towards the cache. At times, when we charged through the puddles, the red, muddy water shot up into the air and over the windscreen, obscuring our view, but with the wipers flapping away we were able to continue on. We eventually found a nice wide, straight track in good condition and turned onto this, still working our way towards the cache.
We came to a walk trail which crossed over this road we were on and that there were some signs nearby so we stopped to check them out and realized we were only about 300m from the cache area along one of these trails. We parked the car and set off to find the cache, the trail in was through light bush, the sun had now come out and we saw some butterflies fluttering about the forest in the dappled light of the trees. We soon came to the area of the cache where once had stood a large boab tree, the only thing that was left there was a large crater. I knew this because someone had left a very convenient sign explaining what had happened, lol. We looked around for the cache and eventually found a tell tale sign close by, we extracted the cache container from its hidey spot and stuck in a sticker and signed the log, the odd type of container was letting water in so we replaced it in an upside down position to help prevent the log book getting more wet. This was such a nice area to visit, the walk through the forest was splendid, we loved it, we would never had visited this place if not for your cache, we think we might give this one a favourite point. Thanks to Derby Bush Rangers, PS. Chloe and Charlie are participating in the Scouts Geocaching Competition. Thanks for this great cache! This is why we do this fun hobby. We managed to get out and back to the main road without incident, we drove to the JoonJoo parking area which we found nearby the Prison Boab at coords S 17 20.837 E 123 39.890...........................
