Travelled from Waimate to Kurow today in our motorhome. Not many caches on the Hakataramea side of the river. Plenty on this side to get. All good here. TFTC.
Day 3 - and 2nd leg of my A2O bike ride. Being a big ish 80km day a bit of planning has to be done. Caching is not usually on the agenda as I am normally a bit paranoid of running out of battery.I stopped about 3km short of the dam where hubby was parked up and put on the charger for just over an hour This next leg thru to Kurow I have a blustery tail wind so planning on stopping for a few caches along the way more as I get closer.Just past where hubby parked the caravan at the golf club tftc
It's a shame that they didn't plant a replacement oak tree when they removed the original. Thanks for providing the details of what was on the cross.
Great spot, nice easy find. Awesome directions but be were a bit slow finding it.
A pity this oak has been removed.
In Canterbury for a 25th wedding anniversary and am caching with GraciesGPSfun as well.
Kia ora rawa atu for the cache drawp.

On the road with NZ_B, graciesGPSfun and Nosynel. A shame the cross couldn't have been left in place. Seems odd to have removed it even if the tree was gone. Thanks, drawp.

Thanks for hiding this cache drawp I appreciate it. Sadly the cross and tree are gone. Thanks for providing the answers.
We are on a wee holiday in motorhome with busy paws. Staying at Glenmac farm and exploring the area in Suzy. Strange Oak tree here but happy to find cache. Thanks for another Mighty Oak drawp.
Staying in Kurow. Out for a drive after dinner. Intending to find the Multi. Collected this find between way points.

I didn't really need the numbers for this one to find the next one that they relate to but wanted to sign off the cache so the series will be complete whenever I mange to get round the rest. TFTC # 17,806
Well that one came out easier than I thought it would Thought I'd need some TOTT to extract the log, but a quick shake and there it was. Signed the log and replaced as found. TFTC.
Caching around the back country picking up a few targeted caches plus more. Approached GZ to the likely spot re hint. Hmm nothing there area had been tidied up. Just about to give up when spied the wee cache a metre from GZ lying in the open. Replaced and covered best as possible. Cache all good tftc
Cache found lying in the grass about 8m from hint location. Cache put back in assumed right place. A lucky find. TFTC
Today my partner was going to Otematata for work so I tagged along to get some fresh air and caches in the time he was busy. On our way back he had a job to do in Kurow. So while he was backing into a drive way I checked if there were any caches round. Boom 220ms down the road. Sweet. Got to the hint and just about stood on an animals skeleton eekk... soon had the cache in hand but took longer to get the log out to sign!! Got there tho and signed and put back TFTC
Not only is the memorial oak gone but I think the cache has gone too. Thanks for the info in the text to help find the final.
Saying we found because I know exactly where it was...sad that they’ve taken some of these mighty oaks away
Found with StreetWalker on day 2 of our Queens Birthday weekend, on a most enjoyable Waimate - Kurow - Waimate round trip. It turned out to be a good choice to head inland as the weather was fine (though cold!) until we reached the coast on the last stage of our journey.
We found a few Mighty Oaks today, sadly we were travelling in the wrong direction to get the any of the bonus caches, so will have to record the info carefully and we'll be baaack! TFTC.

Today was the day for the ride down the A2O from Kurow to Duntroon. Before hitting the track I decided to visit a couple of local caches first. This was the first stop. Sadly the tree has gone. Also sad was that the container has seen better days. It is cracked and definitely not waterproof. Cheers BaldEd
Heading to Geraldine for the weekend and on a Mission with BCD to complete the Mighty Oaks series. TFTC
The (major road trip was about to begin) that was for the Oamaru Geofest trip in the company of HKCB and iammrwalker for a bit of a road trip across to the west coast, through Haast and in a roundabout way to Oamaru.
My trip stats were as follows: 617 caches (214 Puzzles), 3300kms, 500 litres of Petrol, 21 hours sleep, 100+hours caching time. THe weather was wonderful and apart from about a 6hour period on the sunday we had fine weather all the way and feel that we made a bit of a hole in the region.
Firstly thanks to all the CO's that put in the effort to to set up these caches and to all the CO's whose caches we did not find this trip, well we are already planning our next trip.
We worked hard at getting specific caches (especially the Geo Art around christchurch and hence our concentration on this area for the preliminary 24 hours. So after a couple of running repairs to the rental vehicle (fuses not working) we were off knowing that all ports could be charged and that sleep was for the weak.
Sorry about the copy and paste logs but that is what tends to happen with a number run of this size. Having collected caches through both the MacKenzie Basin, Myers pass and now across to Kurow on the way to Dansey's Pass before heading back and up to Oamaru

Logged with GCDroid. Taking advantage of a long weekend and camping down at Aviemore. Snuck out for a bit of solo caching on a lovely day. Tftc
Came down this way from the North for the Oamaru Geofest, and decided to add a few more days to the weekend trip and turn it into a bit of a Mega mission, starting 5pm on Wednesday 18th and finishing 3pm Monday 23rd! Teaming up with Cats&Dragons for the first 24 hours then with Iammrwalker joining the team for the remainder.
Just a few of the stats for the trip were:
- 700 caches found, including 270+ puzzles (thanks to the Christchurch Geoart)
- 3300 km's driven, using over 500L of fuel $$$
- Just over 20 hours of sleep (about 4 per day on average), and about 100 hours of caching time.
Certainly a Mega Trip!
Day 4: With the lack of sleep starting to take a toll we finished Day 3 off early and got a few hours sleep before getting back to finding about 2am this morning. Todays mission was to find caches around Tekapo before heading South through the Mackenzine Country via Hakataramea Pass, and onto Dansey's pass before coming out on the coast and heading to Oamaru for the Geofest and caching around the area.
Found after a stop for fuel, for the car and for us.
Sorry about the cut and past logs, but that seems to happen with cache runs of this size!

I found this Geocache on a Geocaching mega mission along with Cats&Dragons and HKCB. With only just over three and half thousand Geocache finds I was very much the over achiever in training. We were in the South Island to support the Oamaru Geofest event, hunt down some Jasmar and D/T harder to find Geocaches, lonely caches (those not found in more than 6 months), virtuals and try and meet some milestone numbers. We signed the logs HIC, an abbreviation of our respective Geocaching names, (H)KCB, (I)ammrwalker and (C)ats&dragons. A huge thanks to all the CO’s who placed and maintain the Geocaches we found.
I arrived in Christchurch late Thursday evening having left straight from work and was picked up by my intrepid companions in our four wheel drive rental to find they had already grabbed about 270 finds in the previous twenty four hours. I wonder if the rental company would have still let us have it had they known we would travel 3300km in it before returning it four days later? Our trip took us to Greymouth via Arthurs pass, Ngahere, down the west coast to Haast across to Hawea, Cromwell, Twizel, Aoraki Mt Cook, Tekapo, onto the east coast up to Oamaru and back up to Christchurch via Akaroa and countless diversions and small towns along the way. We slept in the car for the first two nights, grabbing some shut eye between cache finds, taking turns to drive. We rented a small place in Oamaru for the other two nights and appreciated a bed to sleep in and a hot shower. It was an amazing trip, in which I discovered the South Island has some of the most incredible scenery in the world.

Out caching today with purdiepurdie, fitting in some CCC before the Geo-Fest.
Finding the complete series of these Memorial Oaks has been an ambition of mine for some years; we had done a batch between Weston and Livingstone & now decided to head out towards Kurow.
Pleased to find and log #40; thanks for this and your many other caches, drawp.

Down with kotukuSI to attend the Oamaru GeoFest. We had a plan to hunt down a few Mighty Oaks today. Such a fantastic reason to place a trail of caches. We managed to get quite a few Oaks today and will complete the balance over the weekend.
Thank goodness we still managed to CCC - Coffee (at Kurow), chat most of the way and cache a goodly number.
It was fortuitous to meet drawp at our second Mighty Oak and could thank him in person for placing this cool trail.

Great reading about the oaks to remember the brave soldiers who fought to make this world a better place for us. It's a shame that this tree is no longer. There's an oak tree near Maheno in memory of my late great uncle. Tftc
We arrived in Oamaru last night with the intention of finding as many of our solved puzzles as we could in the couple of days we had here. Today's target was the Mighty Oaks series, and I do not think we truly understood the distances we would be needing to cover to pick these all up. We had found just a handful of these (3?) a few years ago on a fleeting one day trip from Rakaia to Moeraki and back, and were keen to complete this series.
Most of the caches were easy finds with the hints, and at each one we carefully worked out and recorded the numbers for the Bonus caches, which were our main targets. Thanks for setting up this series. These Mighty Oaks make great memorials for so many local fallen soldiers. We appreciate the way we needed to take note of (and therefore pay our respects to) each soldier's individual name and details as a means to getting the numbers for the puzzle caches.

Stopped here on a day drive to explore the region and find a few caches. A quick find, I spotted it as I parked the vehicle. Signed log, TFTC
By now it was most definitely raining, but I had to get out of here anyway, right? So why not stop for another one along the road? TFTC!!
I was on my way to Kurow to sign off a few caches on the way to and in and around the township.
Cheers for the cache.

This cache was one of 350 found on a short trip back to New Zealand, which was principally organised so that I could attend my Great Grandmother's 100th birthday.
I have a great time and enjoyed a great variety of caches, most of which were new (ie published in the past couple of years ).
Thanks for all the great caches.

This cache was one of approx. 350 found on a 5 day road trip with Moneydork who was on a brief visit to New Zealand.
We enjoyed a variety of caches in an area that stretched between Christchurch Dunedin and Pukaki.
Bitsprayer was with us today.
Thanks to the many people who have hidden and maintained the caches.

Last summer the idea was born to visit [Green]'New Zealand'[/Green], together with [url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url]
After some important decisions regarding the beginning of our trip, the flights, the general route and the car were made, the most important question was still unanswered: which caches can we visit during our tour [?]
To get an answer for this topic I was fetching almost every cache from both islands [8)][:X]
[url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] and I love [Teal]'Geo-Arts'[/Teal]...so we added all these cache series to our wish list
After this decision was made this list was more than 300 puzzle caches long...unsolved puzzle caches
Two weeks before Christmas it was getting time to start solving all these mystery caches
Even with the different language I could find almost every solution
In the case I was not so successful I was contacting some of the CO's...and was always getting help from them...many thanks for this support [:X]
During the following weeks our cache list was growing and growing...meanwhile more than 1000 caches long...too long for a simple bookmark list from GC
Time to get our route and caches in sync...time to save the PQ's to our Garmins...time to start this holiday:
Chapter 5: [green]Twizel[/green] to [red]Oamaru[/red]
After a stormy and rainy previous day, the rain had stopped this morning
Therefore we could search for some caches during our drive...and this time without our ponchos
This cache of a wonderful cache series, with a terrific story, was one of them
For us it was often not so easy to find a place for the car, but with the given hint it was almost easy to find the cache
I would like to thank [Navy]'drawp'[/Navy] for showing us these historical oaks and maintaining this brilliant cache series,

Easter weekend and a trip South to do the Alps to Ocean bike ride from Mt Cook to Oamaru. Day 5 and 4th day of riding, despite sore legs from yesterday
