With the mega being postponed a plan was hatched for some of the Team SEAC crew to head north for some fun. Today was day 2 and the Karikari Peninsula was eyed up as the target area.
Strolling along the shore line and was shouted at by an aggressive local from one of the houses further up that we were on private property and that we must return to the beach.
We were only 38m from the cache but we retreated - its just not worth the argument when the area does have various shooting activities so you just dont know who you are dealing with.
Unfortunately this is one that we will not be back for.

Headed towards this one after the last cache...while walking we were yelled at by a local from a local yelling at us that we were on private property and to turn around. We were only only 30 metres from the cache, but did not feel safe to continue so we turned around.
We would recommend that this cache been archived due to safety concerns.

Didn't find this today due to an aggressive local shouting at us from a nearby house. WE were just 30m away, but didnt want to risk upsetting the guy any further. Maybe the CO should rethink this hide as we were told to go back to the beach as we were on private property.
Out with Team SEAC on a long weekend raid of the upper north island. We spent the day catching around the Karikari Peninsula. After getting the 2 nearby caches we followed the river towards the GZ. We were 38m from the cache when we were shouted at by a local that we were on private property and go back to the beach. He was at the houses further up the river. While we presumed that we were on public land we were very unsure of his intentions. A little worried that we might get shot at. So we retreated back to the beach. Unfortunately we will not be returning this trip.
We would recommend that this cache be archived due to safety concerns and been abused by a local. We did not feel safe in the area.
Unfortunately we got to within 36 meters of this cache when a local, from afar, advised we should turn back for the beach, as we were on private land.
Given the remote location (not knowing how far he was prepared to enforce his demand) and that our cars were quite some distance away from our sight, we decided to heed the mans warning..... without locating the cache.
Felt quite unsafe....

Got it after checking out several other possibles. Thanks. Didn't even get wet.
Ended up having to get my partner to piggy back me across the wetlands to get to the cache lol.... we got there in the end. TFTC.
Last one in the area. Most difficult. As approached from sea area. Done anyway. TFTC
Finally made it to Karikari Beach. Beautiful place. A quick search and we had this one bagged and tagged. Cheers
Its Thursday - day Six -Kaitaia area with The Seagnoid and Zara today. Toby and William at Motor Doctors!
Its another epic 4 week geocaching adventure with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and Willam to the Far North. What an amazing place to explore. Lots of walks, gravel roads and sand. Lots of amazing trees, beaches and interesting POIs. Lots of kilometers traveled by vehicle and foot. Vehicle breakdowns, making new friends and catching up with old friends and family. Snagged a couple of FTF's, lots of lonely caches and the odd event along the way. Lots of cache maintenance and replaced caches on this trip. But what an incredible adventure!!. Thanks to all the CO's who have made this trip so memorable..

Wetlands are dry as a bone today. And my notebook says I was getting tired. That would be the fighting through the long grass and weeds. And the hot weather. Nice to have some shade at GZ.
Day six of an awesome, tiring, long, three week holiday geocaching with Taybeedragon in the upper north. Caching the Karikari Peninsula. The whole trip comprised of hours of walking on sand, sliding down sand dunes, hundreds of kilometres of unsealed roads, car breakdowns, paddling out to islands, dolphins, goats, events, FTFs, weird boulders. You name it, we saw it. Lots of bisons, lots of cache maintenance, lots of sunscreen. A month is enough. I am glad to be back home. Except that now I have to write up my trip. We averaged just 20 caches per day, but that is still a lot of logging!
Merry Christmas from the Seagnoid!

Can’t be doing the plants much good, people crashing through them. It’s very tiring too. Guess I’m a wimp! TFTC
I have set myself a challenge for this year to have at least the same number of caches on each day of my calender as the number of years I have been caching.
I decided to have a go at this series of caches. Luckily I had the forethought of putting knee-length gaiters on over my hiking boots. This is definitely NOT a trip for the family as the easement track is overgrown with up to chest-high gorse in places and head-high grass. You definitely need to don your body armour to do this series of caches.
To do the two caches on the beach you can remove your body armour, but you will need it for your return trip.
Cheers for the cache.

Finally made it to a beach we have been meaning to visit for the last few years. Well..... almost. Decided against making the crossing over to the beach. Kept nice and dry and enjoyed the views. Our initial attempt at locating this cache was foiled by water and we needed to backtrack and fine another route. Another quick find once gz located. We enjoyed our visit to these wetlands and seeing all the different native birds and fauna. Filled a bucket & bag with rubbish that did not need to be there. Now for the slog back to the carpark into the wind. Better hold onto that hat Scotty. Whoops, to late. Lucky Kiwiscot did not mind getting wet. TFTC
Back2back tfct, lucky it was overcast, otherwise it would of been unbearably hot.
so nice to be out here enjoying a sunday stroll. cache algood and waiting for a few more visits.
16:00
Nice and easy stroll to the beach.
At the end we feared to get wet feet, but didn't.
Cache is in good condition.

Found it after an unexpected walk along the dunes then forging a pathway to GC! Easy find tftc
(1333) Decided to do the walk to Karikari beach and pick up some caches on the way. Nice stroll through the wet lands. TFTC
Not where I thought it would be, quite a walk through the dunes after you make it to the beach, and down low below dunes. Recommend covered shoes and long pants to get through really long grasses and lots of gorse.
We found it eventually.... not in the place we first thought though. Keep looking!
After a really nice 2km walk along the beach, waded across the river (probably chose the deepest part, in hindsight!). Not a difficult find, thankfully. TFTC
Stunning beach and a great location, quick retrieval with Yeetrees , nice to explore the wetlands, TFTC.
A bit of off-the-beaten-track walKing to get to this one. Nice lunch spot after in the dunes and saw a huge pod of dolphins way out offshore.
We attempted to do this one the last time we were here but from the beach end. River was too cold to crosss then. Found today as came from walking track end. remains of old wharf here. I wonder what they exported or imported as no signs of life of an era long ago.No probs but could get wet in winter.
What better reason to come back to this beautiful unspoiled beach than to find another cache. My GPS failed at the last minute but luckily there was a back up and we soon had this cache uncovered. Unfortunately it was a king high tide so we could not explore the lagoon and also found ourselves having to wade through a stream on the way home.
Our last cache of the day before a night under the stars. Thanks for the adventure!
12.46pm. *FTF*
Left the bike at the gates as didn't want to ride on the dunes, plenty of birds nest in this area.
I was lucky to find the cache as my batteries had gone flat in the GPSr and the spares I had taken were also very low [:i] [:i] only turned the GPSr on momentarily to get the general direction needed.
Walked about the distance I thought i needed and sparked up the GPSr again, found I was only 12m from GZ so I quickly walked and found the cache.
Only just had time to log the find on the GPSr before the second set of batteries died !!
Another great cache in the stunning area.
Gets a Fav point from me.
