Logs
We decided that the Terrain should be a 5. All good for the cache. Need new paper in about 6 months!
This morning, I set out to complete the Mount Aubrey walkway, leaving from the carpark that we'd stayed overnight in the campervan. After climbing up from Little Munro Bay, I was very pleased to have the opportunity to catch my breath while I searched for the hide. The hint said go right. But where from and how far? GPS was skittish, so only gave me a rough idea of location. I searched for quite some time, even resorting to PAF at one point, with no success. I found what looked like a SPOR, which I dismantled, only to discover that it was natural, and hid nothing. A check through the logs gave me an extra hint, which I seized on, and finally spotted the hiding place. I had difficulty extracting the log, had to make use of a natural ToTT (a small twig) to free it from the container. Log dry, all good. Signed, and returned as found, and very pleased to do so! An FP for the hunt. Tftc!
We found it Very very very hard work, but a nice cacheThank you for the cache, greetings from switzerland
Had a quick look but went into " old people, don't want another injury" mode so carried on without a smiley
Having looked at this one prior to setting out, it looked like it was going to be a challenging search.
I read and noted as many clues as I could gather from previous logs to help once at gz.
Quite a puff getting here, so i was ok at the thought of it taking a while to find, however, we had it in hand pretty quickly.
I gave a little happy dance, and then it was time to continue on our way.
Thanks for putting this here on this great track

Took a while but we did find it. Reading some previous logs helped. TFTC
After a long search , head scratching, hair pulling and possibly some swearing I finally found it
Yay. Woohoo. We found it. Have searched for it before and also on the way up to grab a cache we missed last time. Have found some of these ones before so we knew what we were in for. Located it on the trip back down. Not sure how we missed it last time, I'm sure I looked there. Thanks for the cache
Only had a quick search for this cache and then the alarms went off at the refinery... My partner took off running.. I'll have to come back and have a better search next time.
This one was just too hard for us. We tried every cave, hidey hole and ‘under’ area, couldn’t find a chunk of wood that yielded a result.
We tried to make as much sense of old logs as possible, making use of a comment that said it was as much inside is under. This suggested we had to try a couple of the sort of cave structures. We thought we had searched everywhere but I suspect some lucky finders have had a little bit of a nudge or a hint or local knowledge! Anyway it’s a gorgeous place for cache. Luckily we’ve filled our D/T grid so this interesting combination rating is not as crucial to us as it might be to others.
Took some finding but eventually located. Great hiding spot. Well hidden and fun to find.
Knowing Riser5 I knew it would be a challenge! My friends have already searched twice already! Perseverance paid off so the images from other people. Very good camouflage. Fav because of difficulty!
Finally! Third time searching, this time with an experienced geocacher! Not so much under, but also inside.
After getting a FTF on the new cache in Little Munro Bay, I headed up and over Mt Aubrey on a training jaunt for the upcoming Taupo 100km Ultra Marathon ( I am only doing one leg in a team of 4 though ).
I thought it worthwhile as I was going past, to see if I could locate this one again, 18 months after I first found it. There have been a lot of DNFs since, but I doubted that it had been muggled.
Very happy to report that the cache is still there in exactly the same spot, in good condition and with a dry log. It's obviously easy when you know, but I can see why a lot of cachers have problems.
Happy hunting.

I took the Monday off to create a nice long weekend for myself, and managed to grab some cheap seats to travel up to Auckland. Then it was just a matter of talking tunfisk into travelling up north for a few days, and we were off! I have been wanting to find this one, and equipped with a few extra hints, we were hoping to strike it lucky. Unfortunately we could not locate the cache even after about an hour creeping around and under and over, PAF-ing, so we (very reluctantly) gave up I hope to be back at some point!
Spent some considerable time on this cache - more time than we wanted. Had the kids with us helping look in every crevice and hole and did not come up with anything this time. Looked very hard for any Riser5 creations but not this time - we had to move on as had other caches to get before the end of the day. Leave this for another day.
Yus!!!! We looked for this last time we were up this way with no luck. We were determined to find this one this time around. Had the gps with us this time which led us right to the spot. One poked out eye and it was spotted. A year wiser or stupider and all revealed. Thanks for the placement Riser5 and the challenges you bring.
I have looked for this cache before...today we knocked the bastard off as Sir Ed would say...great natural camo been there for a while...also a great camo and placement thanks Riser5 for this tricky cache...glad the GPS was on target
We had a bit of a search here. A combination of d5, being tired from the uphill track, and not updating the recent finds of this cache meant we had a lazy hunt - hence I haven't logged a dnf. Thanks anyway
I joined up with hotrodpete this hot summer's afternoon to take a hike around Mt Aubrey and look for the caches around there. I've only been up Mt Aubrey once before, and that was just up and down from the summit, so it was nice to walk the full loop today. We knew this one was going to be a tricky hide, but we had received some tips from a previous finder, so were confident we would be able to find the cache. On arrival at GZ the cache guardians (2 gulls) sensed we were getting close to the cache and kept swooping on us from overhead. That didn't deter us and the cache was actually found rather quickly (by feel, rather than by sight.) Still a very tricky hide and we can see why people have problems with it! TFTC!
On a "sea side cache clean-up" with Vistra today covering the Mt Aubrey and Motukiore Island caches. The last couple of caches on Mt Aubrey / Reotahi including this earlier visit DNF were the first targets for the mission.
Last time 0B80B8 and I were here this cache had to be logged as a DNF after spending quite sometime searching. This time with a good hint from GTWorks we had success as Vistra discovered the cache holed up in it's cavern. Always good to get one like this turned into a smiley.

Spent a good hour looking for this one at night no result, my batteries on mobile and torch where at 50% and had some road ahead and caches so made the call to give it up for this attempt , what a great spot, I will return during the day next time.
Thanks any way for placing it here, and hope to change the dnf to a found next time, you got to admit there are lots of pieces of wood and under posiblities for it but then again it is a 5*

After my FTF success on the Dragon's Mouth, I thought it well worth carrying on to try for this one that I hadn't managed to locate on my last time across Mt Aubrey.
With studying the hints and a bit of extra looking with long arms by braille, rather than just sight, I managed to locate the pesky cache. Certainly a tricky one. TFTC

Walking Mt Aubrey track this afternoon, so stop in to check cache is still in place after all the didn't finds. Yes it is still there. Happy hunting. GTWorks
On a geocaching mission over Mt Aubrey and around the coast track to Reotahi this afternoon to see if we could log a few more local caches. This was the second on our list as we headed around the loop from Tiller Park.
Although we had a very good description of the location from the last cacher to actually find this cache; a smiley face was not to be. Even with three pairs of eyes searching and expending close to half an hour we could not locate this cache.

I too looked for quite awhile. My cords kept jumping around and there were just too many spots it could be. I'm visiting from Phoenix Arizona and am enjoying my adventure!
Had a really good look around, couldn't find any thing out of the ordinary. Please can you check that it is still here. Thanks
Walked up from Little Munro Bay. Unfortunately too tricky for me and I could not find it. Thanks for the hide though.
Looked long and hard for this cache but no sucess it has not been found for a few months...it would be nice to have confirmation if the cache is still alive
It will be most likely this one is still in place, as it is a VERY tricky one to find.
DNF. I need a bit more to go on. Too many "under"s with too many "right"s. Beautiful spot.
(1359) Finally found this one. Third time lucky. Almost gave up, but found it on my last sweep of the area. Very challenging cache to fined. Just keep looking for a small piece of wood all on its own. TFTC
Checked up on the cache while running over the Mt with the Whangarei Hash House Harriers.
After being chased off the Mt Aubrey Summit by an angry Black-backed Gull, we continued on to have a look for this cache. Had an extremely extensive hunt for it, to no avail - so many possible hint objects. Started from the beginning and ended up straight back where I first looked, but found it this time, by ignoring the last word of the hint. Whew, what a tricky hide for such an awesome spot.
End of the day so more patience may have been needed. Enjoyed the exercise though, having done most of the new ones on Manaia earlier in the day.
no luck.... Couldn't find the reotahi one at the car park either!! R people taking these and not replacing them?
No luck today. Spent a half hour hunting around for this one. Disappointed to mis this one after the effort require to reach GZ.
Combined ftf with kenny897,this one took us ages to find for some reason, first time doing the complete loop and enjoyed the track.TFTC,
