I really struggled with this and sent weak answers. It was beyond my ability, but tried. I have ZERO geology background. TFTC.

Earth caches are definitely never our forte, however, we had a good look, did a little research and gave it a red hot go. Thanks McAdies for bringing us here and giving us a little lesson in geology TFTC

I was in Ballarat today for an event and to complete a challenge I signed in the UK. I needed an EC, so was glad this one was here. The colours reminded me of some cliffs in Arizona, but on a much smaller scale here, maybe a similar rock? Anyway I worked on some answers and sent them in, although ECs aren't my strength.

TFTC! 24 March 2024 6:29:57pm 7685 thanks to McAdies for the cache! There is more than meets the eye here. When you touch the stone wall it falls into dust! Unfortunately, no gold was found in the quartz veins!

We visited this location for doing this Earthcache during a previous visit to Ballarat and wowed at the layers here. Today, on a hot day in February we visited Ballarat for the final event for the Geotour. It was pretty hot , especially in the cutting, but the quartz vein is quite spectacular. Its well worth a visit and inspection.

Stopped here to research the observations on this earthcache during a trip to Ballarat. The main aim was to complete the Ballarat GeoTour, as well as finding a variety of caches along the way. Thanks for the interesting earthcache McAdies!

18-Feb-24
I completed this earthcache with FeatherWaite on a short trip to Victoria. From Adelaide. Our main aim was to complete the Ballarat Geotour and other caches of interest in the broader Ballarat area. There were also a number of events and a CITO to attend. The weather was on the warm side, but not too bad for this time of year, which made for pleasant camping each night. Thanks McAdies for an interesting earthcache.

After the farewell event I drove down the Avenue of Honour. Then as the petrol was running out anyway, decided to swerve onto side roads a few times Must have a had fun week at Ballarat. Dirty car and running on fumes Nice earthcache, and spotted lots of big chunks of quartz Dropping off a **fave** Ballarat has cleaned out my stash of FPs!TFTC McAdies

Next stop on today's caching run and once parked, I took the walk to waypoints where the information retrieval started. Gathered what I hope is all the relevant information and will send that to CO shortly. A lot colour in the area and it was cool to be able to get up close and have a look. I also liked the small pine tree growing out of the rock. (Photo attached.)

Thanks for another EC McAdies...answers on the way.

Find #7646

Next adventure - work trip to Ballarat so came a couple of days earlier to cache in the area. With so much to choose from my priority is the GeoTour, some oldies, and some ALs. And of course, what cacher can resist the other one here and there that you just simply can’t drive past!!

Day 2 - and the windy of yesterday has turned to cold today. I’m pushing on with my target and thoroughly enjoying exploring what for me is completely new territory.

So pleased to have an earthcache here to have a reason to stop and enjoy the marvels of nature. A fav point from me. My favourite part is the pink siltstone for sure.

Thanks so much McAdies for getting me out and about and enjoying this area

Answers submitted by buhfuhguh and approved by the CO.

Today I head out with buhfuhguh to attend a couple of events in Ballarat later in the day, we got off to an early start to target a few other caches along the way.
I have passed by this one a few times before but have never stopped to have a look, today was different as we did stop for a look and what an interesting spot this is and it certainly helped to have Michael along side to explain what was actually happening here.

**Thanks to McAdies for placing this cache.**

Another weekend another caching trip to a CITO with stemicmitsar. Out for revenge I suppose on finishing a series that be just ran out of time on last time we were out this way, with the extra addition of not having an essential tool for a cache along this way. More prepared and with plenty of sunlight we set off to turn some caches in to smilies.

Thanks for the cache and the little adventure.

Having a few days of caching around the Ballarat and Creswick areas. I seem to have forgotten to consult the weather gods as its damp and drizzly and super cold. I’m well rugged up and having a great time. Enjoyed this earthcache and always learn something. Logged with permission TFTC McAdies

It’s time for a weekend road trip. After speaking to the bank and remortgaging my house I managed to scrape enough together for half a tank of fuel. So I buddied up with OzHockeyChick for the other half a tank so we could get home again. Definitely won’t be leaving the engine running this weekend .

This was an interesting wander through this cutting with some great veins on display here. Fortunately I had a ruler in my caching bag so I set about measuring and noting my observations. Answers submitted to the CO for review.

Thanks McAdies for placing this gamepiece in the wild for us to find.

Thank you for placing this cache here so I could stop and have a meaningful look at the cutting. Answers have been given a green light by the CO. TFTC

Have been meaning to do this earthcache for quite a while. You wouldn't believe it but had no tape measure (note to self to pop one in the geo kit) .... problem solved .... found a rusty but workable one left in the bush at the previous cache!!!!hahahah. Answers will follow. Many thanks for another great earthcache.

Nice cutting, its amazing what you can learn about geology from a simple road cutting.

12-Dec-21
After helping the Chief with a little Geocaching Vic project in town this morning he very kindly indulged my inner rock nerd and brought me to this cutting to do the earthcache. We have driven through here a couple of times but have had other caching goals in mind. Today was a bit more cruisey as we’d finished our project earlier than anticipated. We strolled up guessing our waypoints because both devices were being idiots (well maybe it was the users of said devices…or maybe it was because it was hot!?). We inspected the cutting and speculated about the formations of the quartz seams here which no doubt lay like giant folded sheets through the hill….which just see a little cross section of those sheets. So very nice the roads dept cut a swathe through here and then laid a footpath so we can see up close the silicon dioxide that runs through these thar hills that carryied another precious metal with it! The very stuff Ballarat was built on. Thanks McAdies for highlighting it. Answers sent via email….hope they were OK.

On our trip to Ballarat to attend the GeoTour Event Launch we took a closer look at this cutting on our way home, from our extended weekend.
Thanks for this Earthcache McAdies.
We have driven through here several times and hadn’t taken notice of it geologically. It is actually very colourful and contrasting when seen up close.
Posting this in anticipation of our submission being acceptable.

Cybergran V and I inspected the cutting first thing Sunday morning of the weekend of the publication of the new GeoTour.
I feel we may have been lacking in insight as to some of the details required for the answers but we gave it a go, keeping in mind that our thinking caps had not quite warmed up at that stage and I still needed coffee.
It was pretty clear though that we are not geologists.
Still, for "just a cutting" on the side of a road, it did look quite beautiful in the early morning light that captured and radiated its strong banded colours.

TFTC McAdies. I will be interested to year you scathing reply to our united submission.
Logging today with the hope you will let it slide.

After a long year and too much isolation I finally got a chance to travel up to Ballarat to visit a long time mate before Christmas. Decided it was time for an earthcache run along the way, seven in two days oughta do it Wink
Looks like a good place to dig a mine, straight in, no need to go down Smile

I stayed in Ballarat after the Beaufort event and I had plenty of time before the next 2 events so how else do you spend the day go and find some caches.
A fair bit of the morning was spent at the Botanical Gardens doing a variety of different caches then it was time to head out a bit and I came across this earth cache.
Parked around the corner put on my white lab coat gathered the necessary tools and then went off to find some answers.
Walked, measured, took some photos and waved to the people beeping their horns at me.
A very interesting cutting where the road has gone through.
Answers have been sent to the CO.

Thanks McAdies TFTEC.

We have looked at this cutting last year and then lost my answers so back we went the other day. The area is very interesting and was well worth the second trip back here. The cutting here is like a work of art, how many cars drive pass this every day and do not even notice the beauty here. Maybe, when geocachers are wandering around looking an measuring things people may wonder what is about to happen to the cutting. Thanks for bringing us here. TFTEC

We completed this one in the rain today so hope we have answered correctly. A really lovely rock formation. Thanks for bringing it to our attention with the placing of this cache. (Fast forward to 9 Jan 2020 when I am finally logging this one. We have more recently been past this formation and must say that it was nowhere near as lovely as when it was wet). Another great earthcache.

Not sure how we went with this one as it was pouring before we got a chance to complete it. Geoturtle took a lot of photos as she was fascinated with all the stunning colours and formations. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, as even though it is stunning, we would rarely venture out into the suburbs when in this area. Great to see, thank you.

After all these years, we finally got around to visiting this really interesting road cutting and logging this earthcache. We haven't been able to get out geocaching much these past couple of months due to Chunk's back injury, other than the occasional opportunistic driveby, or Chook doing the honours when she can. Today we had to be in Ballarat for other reasons, and being International Earthcache Day, that was enough incentive for us to pop up here and enjoy a nice gentle walk for a hundred or so metres - just what the physio ordered. This was a really enjoyable earthcache and answers have been sent. Thank you McAdies.

A day of traveling from Ballarat to Melbourne with the Godfather Freddo and gridge98 collecting a few memorial Wherigos, high terrain water/ladder caches, and finishing attending the Mega bowls event.

This was a great outcrop showing the folding and faulting as described. The quartz intrusions were awesome, and some interesting descriptions. A little more detail would have helped to appreciate this site more, so some further research was required before being able to send answers, thanks!

Interesting location. No gold found today.

Apologies for the generic log below:

Away for the weekend with Freddo and Davidwazza to the Parkville Mega.
My first mega that I had attended and I had a really enjoyable time.
Some of the log books were signed with my name others were signed with just a G part of the group name, a combination of KBJGD.
We were happily joined by KB who was a machine finding a lot of the caches.
Thanks to the CO for all the placement of caches, the earyh caches answers will be sent in the coming days also.
We were very successful in finding majority of caches but some we DNF.

Logging with permission. As a car driver you swish through a cutting like this and rightly so - focus should be on the road and any pedestrians or wildlife. So nice then to have a closer look at the rock, the layers, the colours, the minerals, etc. All measured, researched and considered. Answers sent off with prompt and positive response. Thanks for a "cutting edge" earthcache! Wink

Completed this EC today on Earthcache day. Answers sent to CO as required. What seemed like just a simple bit of excavation for a road I found to be actually very geologically interesting when examined up close. Thx Mcadies for a fascinating site and the lesson in quartz formation. Cheers

I have attempted to log this cache as part of EarthCache day. I visited the site at around 7PM, and I have since arrived home and done some research to help me answer the questions. This is my first EarthCache, so I hope I have done this right and that my answers are okay.

I am 90% sure I stopped at this exact location on a geology field trip with uni last year. I should have paid more attention in class! A really interesting location, and most certainly do drive past without thinking anything of it. I have only started noticing it since said field trip. Thanks for the challenge McAdies.

I really enjoyed this one. It was a great excuse to get out of the office in my lunch time. Very interesting

I have driven through here on a number of occasions but until today never stopped.
Parked on the side road and set about my observations and measurements. Did them the old fashioned inches and feet way and converted later. also pondered the geological processes that have occurred here. Amazing what you see up close.
Thanks McAdies for highlighting it and your lightning fast response

Love this cutting. The colours, textures and folds provide a visual experience that is beautiful.
Awesome in the late afternoon light.
Thanks for the Earthcache.

I'd had a phone call from locus cache about a completely unrelated cache. After I'd answered the query she asked what I was doing today. I wasn't sure but decided that perhaps a visit to Ballarat was in order both to find a few caches I'd had my eye on but never seemed to have enough time to actually get through or find.
So a plan was hatched, a short-ish trip up the highway undertaken and a number of caches found with only 1 DNF at one of the simplest ones of the day!
We both had a ball and parted company in the knowledge that this ought to be done again.

Although locus cache had already logged this one I'd mentioned my desire to FINALLY, FINALLY explore this EC to her and she was content to catch up on some correspondence whilst I walked this part of Norman Rd., measuring, pondering and undertaking some more measuring. The time between first becoming aware of this EC and actually gathering the information was worth it because the walls of the cutting were quite something. I'd say Triassic Park just pips this for beautiful patterning but it's close and definitely more accessible.
Logging with permission. Thanks for the quick response, B.

Logging with permission. Earth caches I normally steer clear of but when the gang said about this one I thought I should have a crack. Been driving through this area forever so know it well...... but kenare and Sean.75 put a new spin on things..... in fact they bicker like an old married couple. Make for a very interesting spin on an earth cache. Thanks for highlighting the area and causing ww3

If there was an award for longest time to do an EC I'm sure we would get it!! Not long after we all started caching we came this way to see if we could do your Earthy. I'm pretty sure this was the first one we ever attempted. We read the cache page, we sorted answered the questions, we never sent our answers because we decided it was too hard and we didn't really understand it that much. Nevermind, it wasn't going anywhere in a hurry. Then after actually doing a few Earthys and getting a bit more educated and a bit more confident in sending off answers we had another look here. Hmmm, yeah let's just let it sit for a while longer, it's still not going any where in a hurry. A few weeks ago we threw around the idea of having another crack so we all met up here today. After walking, talking, measuring, talking, forgetting, back tracking, talking, note taking, running back and laughing lots we finally decided on some plausible answers. I'm usually the one who sends off answers on behalf of the group, but Sean.75 volunteered for sending duties today. I should have smelled a rat!!! (Yes he sent us a screenshot of what was sent, lol). Ahh well nevermind, it added to the laughs that we had whilst we were there. Tftc that wasn't so scary after all!

Logging with permission. I came here today with the usual suspects to attempt your Ec. We walked around, scribbled on a notepad, did a bit of internet research and there was also some sort of discussion about powerlines? You do have to wonder how people's brains operate sometimes. Lol. Thanks for the Ec.

Arriving with the usual crew we walked, took photos, measured, repeated and discussed what answers we agreed on. I really enjoy ECs because I learn heaps, I don't think I've ever laughed so much doing one though. Tftc

*The recent celebrations of Christmas in July around Ballarat, resulted in our geo-map being tastefully decorated with an excess of green and blue baubles!*
Today we had the opportunity to exchange a good number of the colored baubles for smiley tokens. It is rather like standing between two paintings at an art show - amazing location with so much geology on display!

Info sent to CO and confirmed.

Thanks McAdies for bringing us to this interesting location.

We enjoyed our visit to this cache on a cold Ballarat afternoon. We took a stroll along the road, made a few measurements and discussed out thoughts on the questions. We then proceeded to only make one cache find for the day after this cache Sad

Then it was on to an event, which I got the time wrong for, and dinner. At least that worked out!

Tanks for the earthcache McAdies Smile

Doctor Owl and sushilord are off on a long weekend trip to find some quality caches in Mexico. We suffered the laughs, joys and frustrations normally experienced on a caching trip and bonded as geobrother and geosister.

McAdies has responded - between us we were correct. I've never really taken much notice of cuttings, although I've been know to think earth cache opportunity as I've been hurrying past. This was a worthwhile stop - the cutting has exposed a number of interesting features.

The attached image is a small quartz feature we spotted when heading back the car.

Thanks for the earth cache McAdies.

27-Jan-17
Owl and Sushilord were on a wild caching adventure, mainly in search of puzzles, earthcaches and multis. This was an interesting example of the middle type. Owl has previously considered whether cuttings could make a good earthcache, but she's usually whizzing past at 100km an hour when the thought crosses her mind. This was a great location and afforded the opportunity for a really close look at some unusual features. Sushilord and Owl disagreed over some of the finer points of the answers, so she is waiting to see what the CO makes of the responses and who is right. Either way, a favourite point is whizzing your way.

Logging with permission of CO

A quick run down to Ballarat gave us the chance to hunt out an Earth cache for International Earth Cache Day.
Now I Must have admit I have traveled through this GZ a number of times (How many times can you say that) and have always meant to stop. But today was the day, we set the GPSr on this one and went in for the discovery.
With a quick walk, to admire the quartz and other material around we soon had the info required for logging..
An interesting little cache and worth, finally, stopping for.

Logging with permission of CO.

A quick trip to Ballarat and while we were there we were able to do an Earth Cache for International Earth Cache Day. Parked the vehicle and out we got for a walk, down one side and up the other, admiring the quartz and the colours as the cars passed by and at the same time gathering the answers for this earth cache.

An interesting spot for an earth cache

Another countdown event to the Surf Coast Mega. This time Ballarat. I enlisted Locus Cache for company and we arranged to meet mogni and Mrs. Aussie M & M there as they were coming from a different direction. Cool Having arrived last night we set off early to cache our way to the event. We had worked on Puzzles on the weeks leading up to the event so were keen to see if we could get some of those and any others we were passing. [^]
Neither Locus or I can resist a good earth cache so not stopping was never an option. Loved the walk through here and took sooo many photos. the colours are just amazing and the photos are now my computer's wallpaper. Surprised I would love to have put some here but that might give away some answers!
Answers have been sent and logging in anticipation that we are somewhere near the mark. Smile Thanks McAdies for bringing us here. Cool

Brisal5 wanted a 'yapper' to keep him awake as he drove to Ballarat and he thought I'd be up to the task Wink
After a late start Friday, due to his 'anytime is fine' reply when I asked what time we were leaving [)], we landed at our barn accommodation [^] in Ballarat about 8pm. After grabbing tea and a cache, we caught up with Mogni and Aussie M&M before checking out their weekend's amazing accommodation SurprisedCool
Saturday we travelled the countryside from cache to cache in our two vehicles and managed to attend an event too (2 months to the Surf Coast Event - Ballarat) Cool then bolted off to find a rare moveable cache [^]
Following a DNF Sad on a bridge cache, our friends headed off for sleep [)] while Brisal5 and I cached until just after midnight by which time we were beat! [xx(]
Sunday after the usual caching breakfast of Maccas we said our goodbyes to the two ladies Sad and then we two cached Ballarat until 1.45pm before finally heading for home.
Weekend tally of 1 Cool event attended, 2 DNFs Sad and 58 cache finds Smile

Loved this exposed view of the geology of the area Cool[^]
We wandered, exclaimed, measured, took photos and just enjoyed the interesting site and sight [^]
Emails will be sent asap. Thanks for showing us this spot Smile

Logging in the hope the COs will approve my answers...

Having decided against a solo visit of the Subterranean Letterbox, I decided to tackle this Earthcache instead before heading out to cross the shallow sea. Well, the plan seemed straightforward enough...

Parking in a side street, I headed to WP1 and saw some clear quartz veins and also a motorcyclists who'd already pulled up in the cutting (as those of us on four wheels dare not). Following my GPS (which was wrong as it turns out) I crossed the road and investigated the geology on that side. Mr Motorcyclist was still there and I presumed him to be a fellow geocacher, and and in time we got chatting. Turns out he was actually a "muggle", on his fourth or fifth visit to the cutting trying to figure out the geological processes at work, so in a sense we were there for the same reason. And we were both having trouble making sense of it all (albeit at different levels I'm sure!) He showed me some interesting features in the rocks and we compared notes - I hope he does well (as he has so far) as he certainly is thorough in his field-work. Smile But when a learned geologist has trouble, what hope have I a mere amateur?...

Nevertheless, I did what I always try to do - record and research everything I can, explain my observations as best I could and hope I'm not wildly off the mark (and/or have a lenient CO...) But when you're in a place like this with such wonderful geology you wonder beyond the set questions. Why is the rock colouted like that when it was formed in a different direction? What forces could have possibly moved the rock into its current position? Is there gold in them thar cutting walls? etc.

A easily over-looked road feature full of intriguing and confusing geology - definitely well worth the visit! (So a favourite point from me for that)

Over the last couple of years we have driven through this cutting on a couple of occasions as we cached around Ballarat but we had never taken the time to stop and take a closer look at the rock structures. Today this Earthcache gave us a reason to stop and take a close look at the very interesting geology and we learnt some interesting things. We have forwarded our answers to the questions to the CO and permission to log has been received. Thanks McAdies for a very interesting Earthcache.

I've seen similar previously and never knew it was a quartz vein crossing. By tomorrow, I probably won't know again but I did try to look interested in these rocks during my visit today. Most exciting part for me was dashing over the road and back between passing motorists. Very handy of the council to place no standing signs at all the important parts! Photos attached. Thanks for the cache; safe to say that I wouldn't have visited here but for this cache.

Logging with verbal permission from the CO.

What an excellent example of layers and geology here. It was really fascinating to examine much closer what we were looking at and have a much much better understanding and appreciation of what most people see as just a bunch of rocks without realizing the depth and process of how they came to be here

Thanks McAdies for the EarthCache and a Fav point from me.

Out in the company of Alchey and Darth Briji we re-examined the area the to gather all the information needed.
We had done this one once before but forgot to log it and lost the info.
This time we did not make that mistake we approached the CO with our answers as soon as we had them at a local event.
This was a very interesting earth cache.
We would not have even looked at this area if it was not for this cache.
It was a very good learning experience.
Thanks McAdies for the great earth cache.

# 8620. Robmc and I arrived in Ballarat yesterday to attend the two Events today. Although the weather was wet and miserable early on out at Lake Burrumbeet it turned into a pleasant day for picking up rubbish and finding some caches.

Touring around in the afternoon and still finding interesting caches to do. We spent a long time pondering the answers to the questions. It is certainly a spectacular cutting and it was worth the stop and the wander in the cold wind. Logging with CO permission.

Thanks McAdies

The weather started off looking shocking this morning, but by the time the CITO started it had moderated to just very cold. Bettyboo3747 and I travelled to Ballarat for both events and a few odd caches around the area.
Can't say I have ever driven down this road before, but I suspect I wouldn't have looked all that closely at the cutting.
It was interesting to have all the features pointed out, then learn a bit about the geology of their formation.
Thanks to the McAdies for the earth cache and the very prompt reply to our answers.
Thanks, Robmc.

Heading home after the two events today and a few caches thrown in. I decided that it was time to look at this one and after parking nearby I had a good look and was able to cobble together some measurements and thoughts which was enough to qualify. Now I know more about siltstone and quartz!

Found it today with becca85. Very interesting spot and I would love to bring my prospector husband here for a look. Although he may start hacking at the walls (haha). Thanks for bringing us to this very interesting spot.

With the recent cold weather we have both come down with a cold. Then to wake to rain we were in no rush to head out caching today.

It was well after lunch when some sun shone through the clouds we decided to be brave and head out.

We managed to do the required research whilst here. Email sent to CO. We really enjoyed checking out the textures here. We found it quite amazing! We stood for a long time in awe of our Earth!

Thanks McAdies for feeding our GeoAddiction!

My first ever earth cache! Been meaning to do this for a while and finally had time to inspect closer today. Thanks for bringing out my inner geologist and for the cache!

A bit of a late log.
In the company of Team Crackers and Micaparamedic we stopped of for the information. This was my first visit and it was great to be in the company of cachers with good knowledge of earth caches.
Although I am learning all things geology it will take me a bit longer to memorize than I would like.
With permission given I am logging this earth cache.
Our thanks to McAdies for the lesson and thanks to Team Crackers and Micparamedic for the help.
Regards

Dropped in here on my way to the Murray Bridge Mega event but didn't send in answers. Visited again with Team Crackers and permission to log has been given. Earthcaching is a passion of mine and I will go out of my way to visit an earthcache, exampled recently were I travelled 600kms to visit 5 EC's. This is an interesting location and an excellent learning task. Thanks McAdies for developing this earthcache. Cool.

We have visited this site three times trying to do this earth cache. The first was a pre visit to the Murray Bridge Mega to sort out details with worksafe for the fireworks. We lost the information.

The next was going to the Murray bridge Mega, this time it we had micaparamedic with us and again somehow we lost the information, again.

We made it a point to get here when we came here for the Central Victorian Get Together event. Again with micaparamedic and also The Coffee’s, it was not pleasant weather but we were not going leave without the answers this time.

Many thanks McAdies for the great earth cache that showed us some different geological features in close proximity and also prompt permission to log. A favourite point from us.

Out caching today with the kids (aged 4 & 6) attempting to get 8 different cache types in a day. This one was the last one of the challege - 8/8. What a spectacular spot. I drove through here often and have noticed the walls but never looked closely at them which makes you appreciate it more. Plus a bit of reading at home also educates you. So thanks for the geology lessons and for placing and maintaining this cache. Also thanks for the quick email reply giving me to nod of approval! A fav from us and the perfect end to a great weekend Smile

This was fun, even in the rain and wind!

We grabbed this one for international earthcache day. There was a fair bit of head scratching ....

Visited after school today. It was very windy. I sent the e-mail. Cool rock formation. Thanks McAdies.

This is one of those spots you could easily drive on through without realising the significance of what you were passing. This is what I like about Earthcaches, after doing some reading I had learned something new.
Thanks to McAdies for the Earthcache.

Logged with CO permission. Cold blustery afternoon in Ballarat, kids enjoyed looking at the quartz. Both have been to the Bendigo mine recently so knew a little already. Measuring tape and camera in hand we managed to put some answers together that passed muster. Tftc.

Found on our Ballarat trip to collect the Seven souvenirs of August. Met up with the CO at the event and explained enough to log the cache! Love the colours in the rocks!!

Absolutely loved this cache, found on a geelong group assault lead by Na'wal... such a beautiful natural occurence within an urban surrounding.... logged find with the CO permission.... TFTC McAdies Smile

Found after we stopped off so Dad could check on it.
I liked the quartz cutting through the siltstone.
It looked like jewels!
Dad said it was OK to log too.

Discovered this great spot with a few locals after a drive from Geelong with a group of 7 of us. A very interesting spot which was great to visit. Some info before this road came through from the locals was nice, hard to imagine sometimes how it would have looked. Some interesting textures and colours. Logged with permission, quick response from the CO Big Grin

[Blue]Thanks for this Earth Cache [/blue] Smile

We planned a big day out caching in Ballarat for today, leaving in the early morning with a crew from Geelong and meeting up with fellow cachers in Ballarat.
I always enjoy an earthcache, and I was glad that despite the rain at the end of the day we still ensured we could get to these quartz vein cuttings.
Thanks for the informative earthcache and for highlighting this great area, McAdies.

I haven't done many earth caches, so it was a real treat to attempt this one today. The 2 sides are very picturesque to look at. It's a pity more drivers don't get out to have a look. We were caching with a couple of locals who were describing this area before the road was how it is today. We gathered the info required for the questions in the late afternoon, whilst slowly making our way back to Geelong. Thanks for bringing us to this interesting location. TFTC McAdies. Big Grin

Brilliant earthcache getting us to look more closely at the local environment than before. Email posted this arvo with Q&As. TFTC McAdies.

What a great spot to have a look at some geology! The layers here were great, and it all tied in with the town's history. Managed to have a good wander around and examine the different bits of quartz. Answers sent off and hope all ok! TFTEC!

I'm not sure how accurate my answers were but the co say go ahead and log Big Grin

I can remember before they cut through here and down further my mum used to take my sister and myself here in the car when we were kids. From memory there was three or more hills in a short distance and driving over them was great fun, (I was young at the time Wink ) We called them the whoopty doos I think.

The ageing Bushfire and ozbob had a big day caching in and around Ballarat today with our aim to find and get a smiley on most of the mystery , multi, earth and a few traditionals along the way.

After many hours of research, head scratching, emails to the CO’s and help from others the list was compiled and placed into GSAK phew!! With the new co-ords sorted it is so much easier to work out a route so as not having to backtrack.

We have had a roundabout trip to arrive here for our 13th cache find today. Parking in the suggested location and wandered across to the suggested starting point armed with all the required gear and started to check, measure, photograph this amazing cutting that remained hidden for so long.

I was going to place a note here but reading the CN's it told us to claim the find and if we are wrong we are returning shortly to finish off a few remaining multi's and the other EC so we can either consult our notes or photographs or simply revisit.

Our answers have not been sent yet but maybe later today so with fingers crossed I am submitting this find.

Big thanks to the McAdies for the time and effort put into getting this guy up and running. Well done.

A favourite from Bushfire I only hope our answers get a tick!!

On the road with Bushfire today. We had an interesting time at this site discussing the why's and wherefore's of vein intrusions and certainly learnt a lot given the homework that we had done. A great lot of examples of vein intrusions and a great education for a non geologist. A favourite point from me. Thanks to McAdies for their great work on this most interesting earth cache. Hopefully our Q&A will be correct.

We visited GZ on a rather cold and blusterous Sunday. Collected information, submitted answers, and now log with permission.

Thanks to McAdies for another interesting earthcache.
