After the event, a group of westies headed to find few caches along these tracks. Jag50 made the find and the cache is all good here.
After the event, a group of westies headed to find few caches along these tracks. Jag50 made the find and the cache is all good here.
After losing part of our party due to a mishap earlier, we were down to 8 Westies on an expedition. This was the first of our finds today. We made our way to the base of the hill and pushed our way up to GZ. Happily finding the cache quickly and signing us all in.
A small group of us Jag50, Harisree, pazzabella, geocchi, rustynz, merlot58 and myself all came here after adventures at What's On The Menu, Cannibal's Bowl. Nice hide ANZ.
This was my first tramp in Anawhata and after weeks and weeks of rain and it was surprisingly dry here. Things got much more slippery as my walk with the rest of the 'Westies' group went deeper inland along the stream. And we did have a ball indeed, tftc.
A group of westies were wanting a bit of adventure out in Anawhata. The weather was kind, although that wind was pretty cold, but once we were under the cover of the bush, we were nicely protected. A gentle stroll to GZ, with no seals on the beach today. Luckily its about 1 1/2 hours from high tide, but we still kept our feet dry (ok had to take our boots off to cross the stream). We followed a sort of trail up to GZ, and the cache was soon found by jag50.
Lots of walking, with the bonus of finding a few caches along the way. Thanks for the hide, and bringing us here

I joined some fellow Westies for a tramp at Anawhata, my first time exploring this area. We found a ball of green and soon after found the cache.
I woke up early in the morning due to the time change and drove up to the Parnell market for some food and coffee to get the day started. During the wait, I checked the weather and decided to a drive out to Anawhata. An educated guess about the area took me right onto the "faint track" to collect the geocache. TFTC
A nice day so decided to visit this beach for a swim in the lagoon at the river mouth. Soon picked up the faint track and carefully made my way up to it watching for any hidden wasps nest in the long grass seeing that its the peak of the season for them. Found the cache and all good-log slightly damp but still able to be written on. Picked up the TB thats been sitting there for a while. TFTC
Great weather for a hike. Started from North Piha, went up to Te Waha Point, down to Whites Beach then up to Fishermans Rock Point where I went up to the top of Fishermans Rock.
I then made my way over to Anawhata along the coast, admiring Keyhole Rock along the way, unfortunately the tide wasn't out so couldn't walk over to it.
I then made my way over to Cannibal's Bowl which was quite an adventure in itself and then returned to North Piha.
I took a guess at which tree was the "Broccoli" and managed to locate the cache on the first guess. The log is still dry. I've dropped of a TB. TFTC.

Was a grey overcast day in the city but sunny and HOT out here at the beach. A few people and nesting birds too. Clue was spot on and log book nice and dry. T4TC
Out for a days walk with evilno9 and friends in and around Anawhata. This was our last cache stop for the day on our way down to the beach and back to the vehicles for a well earned beer. Cache was quickly found and log signed, TFTC!
in the area today, log wet so replaced the cache with new condensation free test cache - please comment on how dry the log and container are when you visit.
be aware of nesting birds - there was a sign there to day noting this.

Out for a hike/explore from Anawhata today together with the CO and a few muggles. After finding the track up from the beach, the cache was quickly found - despite the fact that it had rolled away from its hiding spot. CO took the opportunity to replace with a brand spanking new cache - so I signed the new log! TFTC!
Dryness report: The cache and log is dry as a bone!

Always like a great caching mission and this one was perfect. Needed a cache that hadnt been found for 12 months to qualify for a Los Angeles Lonely Cache challenge I have been working on . Nice to see this was exactly a year since it was found . I have a very nearby cache that I wanted to check on as well so we headed all the way out to one of our favourite spots in Auckland.
Nice hint was perfect to make a quick find and happy to now have everything sorted for my next visit to LA

Headed out this way today via North Piha and made sure we stopped in here for this cache as we headed towards the creek to see what else we could find.
Nice quick find in the likely spot and took the chance to have some lunch before carrying on our way. TFTC

After our first xmas function last night needed a bit of a stroll to counter the excesses. We have walked this faint track before so knew where it started but noted the promised waypoint in the description didn't exist.

Found it this morning. Set out from Anawhata Road, spent some time scrambling around rocks and checking out the beach before looking for the trail. Found it easily enough, so made my way here fairly smartly. Stopped for a sandwich and completed the log, still just Paultaps and I so far. Headed back up the hill to the car, bit of a slog, so stopped at a hidden seat near the top and boiled the jug for a cup of tea and admired the view. Thanks!
It’s been said that one is continually loosing brain cells. This has been proven time and again. But I think I might be the first to do the proof via geocaching. This is my story:
I was debating on Piha or Anawhata. I thought there would be heaps of people around Piha today with the awesome weather and the long weekend, so decided on Anawhata. So I set off this morning with not much of a plan, GPS (iPhone), a bit of food and water, a basic first aid kit a camera, a topo map, a compass and a fleece pullover and a pen and jammed it all into a daypack. You know, it’s just the typical stuff for a day hike. I usually bring a light rain jacket to the Waitaks too (you never know out there), but decided against it. I’m travelling fast and light today, I told myself, and the forecast is good.
The goal was to get up to the cache on Cannibal Creek (“What is on the Menu?” GCEC39) while picking up the caches on the way. In and out, I planned. I ended up doing an unplanned 12 km loop. This included a 2 km bush bash along trails that hadn’t seen use in probably over a hundred years on the way to “Roadside Rescue (GC44F96). More details in the respective cache pages. Here is a link to a KML file that opens in Google Earth that shows my track (http://share.abvio.com/1b73148f4eca4cd0/Cyclemeter-Hike-20130127-1138.kml). Let me know if it works or not.
.
The first few caches (near the beach) were fairly easy on the terrain rating, but they got harder in the middle of the hike (the bush bash section), then somewhat easier again once out of the bush.
This new one (“Have a Ball of Green”) was a good introduction to what was to come. Path finding up from the beach to “Have a Ball of Green” was interesting, but once located, the wee trail proved fairly easy and was an encouraging start.
A blank log book and an FTF! A nice treat. Cheers for the cache. It seems that at the top of the rise just beyond GZ, the Parks people had done some trail maintenance to tempt the tamper further into the bush. Brain cells are awaistin', so off I go!
