Beautiful walk and a bonus that theres a cache for an incentive for the young ones. Great cache. Thank you
Made this walk once before but we didn't geocache back then, this time we had treasure in our sites, kids enjoyed the find, log was soaked and unreadable aswel as ziplock in bad shape, replaced log with fresh one and left a pen also. TFTC
Enjoyed the walk which was a little slippery in places. Cache proved to run us around. Looked in a few places & was worried about going over as it was very slippery. Then buzzybb spotted something & there it was. Fav point for a great spot even if the cloud hid the view. Took the TB.
Surprised we had never done this walk before. Started off a lovely day, but by the time we got to the top, cloud was covering the view. Still a great walk, even if it was very muddy in places. Looked for a while, re read the description. Whilst kimbathelion was looking a little further on, I turned around and something caught my eye. Tftc
Enjoyed finding this on our hike up to the top of the mountain. A very misty day today so we couldn't see a thing from the lookout. But finding this cache made up for it! Some cool trinkets inside, the geo kids enjoyed! Log is verrrrry wet. Tftc!
As the summer months come to an end, and with daylight savings ending for us real soon, it's time for an extended weekend trip to Rotorua (from Wellington). Lots of activities are on the agenda, and geocaching is one of them. I had several specific caches marked to find on this trip, some to meet specific requirements, some were such fun puzzle solves that I just had to come and sign the log, and are some just because. This cache is one of them.
Log a bit damp but still able to write on it. Stunning view from here.
Thanks to tparty for placing this cache here.

Been up here many times never realising there was a cache here. Normally it’s blowing a gale up here but not today.
Such a great view.
Such a great view.
First NZ cache - it's only taken us about a year to find one! We hunted around for a while before finding the hiding place. Log damp but just about ok to sign. TFTC
When I'm asked if I want to go for a walk, I usually have to establish if his easy and my easy align.
I knew it was uphill but for my unfit ass, it wasn't THAT bad...I'd find Mount harder probably.
Feeling on top of the world from the top, hard to work out which way is which though!
Very rewarding walk with a view that is worth it .

Completing my first challenge in the lead up to the Tauranga Moana Tauranga Tangata festival. Beautiful walk and wasn’t to hard for the babies to walk it either.
Found the cache relatively easily.
Log was a bit wet but still managed to sign it

Nice walk this afternoon. Me thinks there is an easy way and a more difficult way up...... I chose wrong ️but was a gentle walk back to the car.
I think I might come back for a midnight walk with a bunch of teenage Venture Scouts to enjoy the lights of the bay.

Been up this hill a few times but before I started geocaching. Carpark is much better than it use to be. More people seem to be visiting this spot. Saw a lot more along track than you use too. Its a great piece of bush to walk through. Enjoyed our walk to the top. Cloudy but still a good view. Cache waa wet and empty water. Log is damp but still able to sign. Tftc
On a hike to the top and found this beauty. Great hidevin an awesome spot. Thanks!
The kids and I are on our way across to this afternoons event in Tauranga thought we would take a slight detour and get these caches. Carpark is full today but no one on this track must all be on the Falls track. Tffc.log book a bit damp
#7701. The family was staying in Rotorua for a couple of days. I used to work over here at Otanewainuku in the 1980s and I haven't been up the mountain in almost 20 years. So we decided to come over to do the loop track over the summit and give me a chance to pick up these two caches. After spending an eternity trying to find the old cache (got it eventually) we headed over to the lookout. Enjoyed looking at the views then went to find this cache. Luckily it was nearby and I found it in the first place checked. Not sure the family would have coped with another long search for a geocache. Signed the logbook and replaced everything as found. Thanks tparty for hiding it here. I really enjoyed spending time on this mountain.
Out and about with the PackNBoots tramping group today, so only able to find caches that were near our stopping places so that we didn't hold up the group. This one was a good find - slightly wet, but the log was OK to write in. Dried it out and replaced as found. Fabulous walk; birdsong, flowering native trees, leafy trails. Great day out. TFTC
Thanks so much for the great coordinates! Absolutely loved the walk to the top of this mountain... and the reward of fabulous scenery was amazing. Found the cache no problem at all even though it was quite well hidden. TFTC
This gem has been on my list for years now and I suppose I keep putting it off because I'm afraid of exercise. I shouldn't have worried though as this was a great walk. Cache found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward placement. Cheers tparty, TFTC

I was first searching at the wrong place. Then moved to the other side and found the wet cache! Thanks for hiding.
A beautiful morning for a Sunday walk with a group of friends. Teaching them about geocaching do pressure was on to locate. Thankfully did so quickly. TFTC
Great views today! The cache is a little wet.Dried it out as best we could.TFTC
I'm travelling around NZ for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tour-guide. Today I drove from Waihi Beach to Rotorua, via Tauranga to find important geocaches.
About this cache:
Even tough I didn't have time to go up to the top, after messing up my search for the old cache, I couldn't resist to go up here and take a look. Beautiful views up here. Luckily I found this cache rightaway, thanks to the good hint. Greetings from Norway

We had been planning an expedition to this area for a while, and just waiting for everything to line up (a weekend when we weren't working and the weather was reasonable!). After finding our 2000th cache nearby (Mt Otanewainuku) we continued on up the track to locate this one and check out the great view from the trig observation platform (photo to come). We had the place to ourselves for a while so our search was not interrupted, and the cache was a quick find thanks to the description and hint. It's wet inside as others have mentioned but the log was still signable. Thanks tparty for the challenge and giving us our first cache of the next 1,000. We had a quick unsuccessful look for the letterbox cache near the trig, but guessed if it was still there it would be extremely well-hidden, as not found since 2007!!! We look forward to coming back to the area as we still have another couple of caches to find here.
A small informal tramping group I belong to suggested we hike this trail - well of course I'm going, as I haven't found these caches yet. Such a beautiful view from here, even though it was a bit hazy. We reminisced about the days when we used to run to the top here without stopping - quite a few years ago now! Cache is slightly damp, but still writeable and otherwise in good condition. Thanks for the placement tparty.
It's always great to get to the top of a good climb ...awesome outlook even on a cloudy day ...found the cache ok but the container had more than its share of water ...drained as dried as best possible ....log still signable thanks Tparty for the great placement
Cool views today and the log is getting abit damp . Will need a new bag and logbook soon .Thanks
Found during Sunday afternoon hike to the lookout. Beautiful views all around. We were lucky to see fantails and robins.
Took a little longer to get up here because we stopped to play with a young Robin - magical. What a superb view at the top! Thanks for the excuse for great walk. TFTC
Up from the other Bay to have Christmas with family, one of my things to do while I'm here was to go up Mount Otanewainuku and search for Mount Otanewainuku and Puwhenua's Love caches. It's been many years since the last time I had made the treack up to the top. So sister ( Tigatat2 ) and I walked off our Xmas dinner. We reached the veiwing platform and a group of muggles were taking in the view, so we did the same. Once the coast was clear, it was time to find the cache. That didn't take long as the cache was sitting on top of the log door. When opened, all was wet inside. Log is a bit damp but we were still able to sign. Dried cache as much as possable and was placed back were it should be. TNLN. Cheeres
Out caching with my sister (CeeVee). Haven't climbed to the top for a few years and a noticed an increase in bird song. The number of Tui's flying around the flowering trees was so to see as well as the Gray Warblers and NZ Robins. We reached the trig and a family were enjoying the view so we joined them until they left and then we went down stairs in search of our goal. The container was quite wet inside so dried it as best we could with what was on hand, Log was dry to write in.
1794 Arrived at the top to two people up the tower enjoying the view. So i had to spend some time myself doing the same waiting for them to leave. Thankfully it was not too long. Then it was down for a quick grab. Cache all good.
Out this way to get a few caches I've been keeping my eyes on for a while. So made a day of it to focus on these caches plus get a few others nearby and in Rotorua.
This was one of the few caches I had been keeping my eye on. A great walk to the summit but I lucked out on the views as the photos show. Had a think about where the cache might be hiding before starting the search and was rewarded with a relatively quick find.
Thanks for the hide.

Wonderful view, but a little cloudy in the distance, so not all the mountains visible. TFTC
A great day to be out Geocaching. Found the track quite easy going anticlockwise.
Found the Letter Box cache first. Then with a bit more hunting, found the cache.
Thanks tparty for a great day out

Good walk traing with my big pack and boits . Nice views and lots of birdsong asi had the forest to myself today
Decided to take this back road while cycling from Tauranga to Rotorua. The walk was nice and the cache easy to find once I reread the instructions. Muggly Sunday today. TFTC
Love it here! Forth time... finally remembered to bring the geocache details! TFTC
There were plenty of cars in the carpark today and the track was quite busy. When we got to the platform we found some others there. Turns out they were cachers and so we launched a combined hunt. Then it was time to admire the view. Fantastic. White Island was puffing away and Mt Ruapehu was in the opposite direction. Thanks Tparty.
Was circling gz when we heard other people coming up the track. We quickly hightailed it back up to the top of the platform. Was having a pleasant chat with these other walkers when one of them says "now let's see where that cache is". Snap! It was Gislong. Soon had log signed. Such a beautiful day to be out. Could see White island steaming away, and even the snow capped peak of Ruapehu over the Mamakus. TFTC
To nice a day to stay at home so decided to pick up a couple of caches. lovely view from the top today. TFTC.
Great day for the loop hike and great views from up top and thanks for the Maori mythology lesson.
Perfect day for a walk to the summit. Stunning 360 views. Saw no one on the way up but several on the way down. Had to patiently wait for two muggles on the lookout platform who sat down & chatted for quite some time then took selfies before moving on. Well worth the wait to locate the cache. Took geocoin. Popped in to check on the status of this cache given the last DNF. There has been some tree clearance at the summit but it hasn't interfered with the cache placement. Cache was found in the correct place, but well hidden. Emptied out some water that had collected in the container, but the log book was nice and dry in its bag. Have moved the location a few meters to a place that should be easier to find.
Had a good look for this today - no luck - a few trees had been cut down and I think they are now covering the cache. But a amazing view and well worth the walk!!

From the tree I go up the hill. Nice walk. And on the top is a big wathtower. So after finding the cache, I went up and made a few pictures. Nice view. The ocean looks calm. Bright sky and only few clouds far away.
I made a break there and wath the nature around.

Have been meaning to do the Otanewainuku circuit over a weekend. This is the sort of walk that shoudn't be rushed. Unfortunately, I seem to run out of weekend.
This hill climb was my punishment for eating like a pig today. Huffed and puffed my way up and enjoyed the burn. It's a good feeling knowing the lookout is up there, as that is the target. Arrived within good time... not speedy like the recorded time in the log; but quick by my standards. Went up the tower first. Took another billion photos, then went in search of the cache.
That was a scary drop down... Hadn't noticed that before when sitting on the nearby seat. Must be blind sometimes. Again, nice to be back here. Thanks for the exercise, and TFTC.

The challenge was set (ok maybe I just turned it into a challenge) to see how quick I could get up to the Trig, I probably went the longer way past the Kahikatea tree but stopped the clock at the trig in 12mins 48sec, then spent 2min 37 secs finding logging and replacing the cache and a further 9minutes 23 secs back to the shelter by the carpark..........
Obsessed? yes......

Well done Mr Geckoh Nothing wrong with a little challenge in life. Team Tparty are pleased to be sharing in your obsession [^]
Our second cache on this beautiful walk, was found after a short hunt with FreewilRose. We loved the views from the top of the tower. Fantastic 360 degrees - luckily we could identify many peaks, including our own Putauaki in Kawerau, but others had us wondering. Thanks very much for bringing us here and the cache.

16/02/13 17:55 21 minutes from prior cache to top. 4 minutes to find. Déjà Vu as I've found a cache here previously. That time with Boss. This time with JC Cache Dawg who stayed on vanguard - probably chatting to the same guy who was the magic car guardian 5 years ago...
Thanks tparty. Cheers, GC.
13 minutes down. I'm sure it's easier going up anti-clockwise. lol. I went clockwise. Saw 2 black robins, heard 2 kereru. Had a chat with the guy at the bottom - he reckons it was him here too, 5 years ago
Last found 11/02/06. Puncture today so took a long time to fix that

I certainly LOVE this bush and especially arriving at the top of this hill! Took a little searching - well hidden but trusted GPS - showing about 2m Great views today - this platform gives spectacular 360 views. Thanks for bringing me up here again and especially to the local community who keep an eye on our cars while we enjoy the walks and birdlife.TFTC
a very hard find, some muggles ended up helping us with this one, ended up taking about half n hour looking in the same area, well worth the walk up there, the view was spectacular!!
FTF woop woop...was a little worried that it would be snatched away like the last one.....what a relief when we got there. Team effort from the Richardsons, lots of encouragement from me to the younger branches. Great views from the top and 3 caches on the trip and Strawberries on the way home meant the tri was highly successful in the girls' eyes.
Thanks for bringing us out here - knew the myth, didn't know the hill reponsible for poor old Mauao wanting to drown himself!
Swapped a goodie or 2. Signed log and remembered to date this one.
