A nice quick find. The Grandest Canyon on this road! Thanks for placing your cache. It has been a while since we got back from Europe, and it is time for us to see more of Home. Ms_KR and I are off to the West Coast for a wee break, and some caching. Today cruised around the area picking up plastic boxes!Occaisionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.

Brilliant sign and geology. Well up to Niagara Falls standard. The one in Southland that is. Thanks hazedarus

very easy park n grab!

Up for work, the Karamea and Hector OneNZ sites have recently been upgraded. Even though I already qualify for the 300minutes of the SI challenge, I'm collecting a few more minutes.

This was another quick find, after being up to the mine entrance, and a quick drive around Millerton. Lucky for the waterproof paper, I think it was drier than the ziplock bag. Dried the water out as best i could though, should be fine.

TFTC hazedarus, the cache was found in good order Very Happy Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 2 find(s) of 11 today, making this find #4191

Thanks for hiding this cache hazedarus I appreciate it. I am geocaching with JDScout today. I have chosen this cache carefully for his likes and dislikes. Caching with JDScout is about compromise so we can both enjoy it. Exploring this area was enjoyable for both of us. Now I have been to The Grand Canyon

We were in the Westport area for the long weekend, coming to this area was on our agenda as Graeme had watched a video on you tube of the Millerton incline, so we wanted to come and see for ourselves.
We were pleased that there are so many caches in and around this area as that is always an added bonus when exploring somewhere new.
Wow, what a sight this was - possibly as close to a Grand Canyon that we are likely to get. We didn't stop on the way up - thought it would be kinder on the camper to stop on the way back down the hill, which is what we did. The cache is pretty wet but with write in the rain paper there were no problems signing the log.

Thanks for placing this cache to help entice us to visit this area and thank you for the smiley

Meandered up from Westport to Denniston, Millerton, and on to Mokihinui Beach today, picking up a few caches along the way, including four in the Millerton area. Heading back downhill again at this point. A quick find. #4141. TFTC.

04-May-19
Nice, of course this deserves a cache!
As Capperz pointed out, probably deserves an Earthcache also.
TFTC here Hazedarus, quick find as designed.

Day 2 of 3 day trip for Capperz and I with the overall goal of dropping off some keen bikers at the Heaphy track start near Collingwood and not failing to pick them up late on Sunday morning at the finish north of Karamea.
We had one job then, and happy to say we did it.
On the way, of course, we found some caches.......

Takaka to Seddonville, so the goal was caches over the Takaka hill on our side of the road only; virtually nothing between Motueka and Westport; then up the coast targeting some historic coal mining communities and a few others before settling down in Seddonville for the night.
TFTC to all COs.

04-May-19
I'd sighted the pictures for this cache before coming here and was not disappointed. Awesome rocks and formations all around. Very deserving of an Earthcache. That's a challenge for you hazedarus, an Earthcache to capture this great place. T F T C was an easy find as per the hint.

Onto the next part of the caching day - mines and historic West Coast areas. We did most of the Denniston area except the trudge and the harder 4WD caches, and we knocked off the 10 cache loop and walks around Millerton. Some great sights and history up here, shame the weather started to drizzle and spoiled some of the awesome views from on top. Didn't get wet and a good trip off the main road.

Day 2 of the trip dawned bright and early. In fact we were on the road before dawn turned up, and a target of all the 'on the left' caches up the Takaka hill was the aim. Then it was a straight run to Westport via Motueka valley with a couple of mid-journey caches to get on the way. Ending the day with a trip to both the Denniston and Millerton mine and cache circuits and a glad visit to Seddonville to stay for the night at the backpackers at the old school.

This weekend I've offered up my services as a getaway driver. Nothing as dramatic as a criminal bank robbers assistant, more a chance for a group of work colleagues and associates to get away to do the Heaphy Track on their bikes. Ably assisted by ricardinho.nz as a co-pilot and driver of the geocache seeking devices utilising the route which I'd done a full and comprehensive list of before departing. The plan was fairly simple; early finish Friday arvo and take them over from Woodbourne to the Collingwood/Brown's Hut end of the Heaphy and collect them from Kohaihai bridge end late on Sunday morning. A late start on the Friday to get underway as a result of a delayed ferry arrival had us around 30-40 minutes late getting on the road and some fluffing in Motueka for dinner added enough minutes on to mean that we got to the track end on dark, and never got to the digs in Motueka until around 8.45 PM. There was still some time for a bit of 'in the dark' caching where I got 3 finds before hitting the sack, after a couple of refreshments, and a conversation with an aggressive illustrator from Wellington.

Zara is finally out of the AA Hospital in Greymouth so its time to grab her and a few Critters, while adventuring along the amazing West Coast. Parked Zara in Westport, while The Seagnoid and I headed out with Toby, exploring Granity and Denniston. So lets GO!!
The Seagnoid is navigator as always and Toby and I are paired up, so as The Seagnoid counts down I am looking for a place to park. No go here on the way up. There was a road to a heli pad back a bit. But we are coming back this way. So we stopped on the way down. Parking a little better. Canyon striations look great. Could even support an earth cache. Snagged and tagged this one. Cheers

30-Jun-18
Zara is feeling better so Taybeedragon and I are off to Greymouth to pick her up and find some of those Hidden Creatures. You carved a figure-8, but without the crossover: Blenheim - Greymouth - Westport - Nelson - Blenheim.
The dragon did not see any obvious stopping places as I was counting down the distance, so we drove straight past. No worries, we'll pick it up on the way back. Which we did. Pretty cool canyon. Obviously not the original road. How did they get into Millerton originally? Okay, we found out at the next cache. Hmmm... no sphinx here either Sad Where is it?

Found with StreetWalker on our week long post Christmas trip to Reefton and the West Coast. Day 6: Karamea to Waimangaroa.
Left this cache for the way down. Took some effort to carve out this road form the hillside and the result is pretty spectacular. SW took one for the team and headed out in the rain to make the find while I stayed dry in the car Smile TFTC.

Camping over at Carters Beach and the weather forecast for the week is not good. So we are out and about - mostly driving inbetween showers. Checking out the Millerton area - never been here before so taking it slow and checking out all the views.
Saw the spot for this on the way up hill - but decided parking was better on the way back down.
Jumped out and made a QEF - cool spot here... but do want to get to the real Grand Canyon one day.
