On our big New Zealand tour we stopped in Whaganui today and tracked down and logged this cache. TFTC
Found out in the open but carefully replacedAll in good order . What a great stadium, so close to city centre. TFTC
For reasons other than geocaching, I found myself in Wanganui today. But of course there is always time to find a cache or two, so I made sure I arrived early enough to be able to grab a few such as this one.The stadium was almost entirely deserted when I got here, so I had no problem getting to GZ and making my search. Initially I was looking in the wrong kind of location, but a quick re-examination of the Hint and I soon realised where I ought to be looking, and sure enough there was the cache. All good here, and no issues to report. I was able to sign the log and replace as found, but it wasn't until later in the day that I realised that I'd signed every log with the date as Feb 7th! My mistake. Thanks for setting this one up.
#370.Thanks for the location. Enjoyed the history about this ground. Tucked away on the dot. Another Wanganui cache marked off.TFTC.
Out and about with Flowerydaze and on a road trip to Whanganui for the Vintage Week-End which was most enjoyable. Found after some searching and revisiting the hint. TFTC mjmnz
Talla64 and I are visiting Whanganui for the Vintage weekend and doing a spot of caching at the same time. My GPS was all over the place for no apparent reason but satellite view showed where it was. Quick find after that. Thanks for the cache mjmnz.
After attending my personal event Summers Back 2023 I released 4 caches to go along as a nice follow up from the event. So I Tagged along with my self proclaimed uber driver Sarah Infoferret. I Followed along to provide input and explain my ideas around the caches. After watching everyone have a good look of shock and wows and expressions the convoy of geocachers made their way up to Whanganui to attend Rattle Christmas barbeque. Our convoy consisting of Infoferret NZ_B TwigNZ the Seaganoid haydn.seek LNM61 barefootguru and I made our way up to Hunterville with the same goal in mind to claim the cache SURVIVOR. After Finding all the wanted caches for the day we separated, all went off in our own ways to meet each other at Rattls barbeque. After an Amazing weekend Infoferret and I made our way back down south. After driving up to the cache Infoferret and I got looking and quickly retrived the cache really neat location Tftc.
Some people call myself and my partner crazy. I dont think so yesterday we drove from Auckland to over Cooney where we spent a night in our car, today we are heading to Palmerston North to pick up a TV that we bought for cheap off marketplace. We will drive back up to Auckland tonight . Yes, we are going out about the way to pick up the TV, no, we dont care.We make frequent stops because of the long drive and well my partner naps, I go Geocaching. Thank you to all COs for placing and maintaining.

Mum and 12YO (remaining child that still enjoys caching) decided to grab a few caches today. Cooks Gardens was very quiet, and 12YO made a quick find.
Great location for the cache - I imagine it would be difficult to find it without being sprung on busy days at the location!

Quick find of the cache… finding an open entrance & walking to GZ took a lot longer. Thanks for another mjmnz
On holiday in Whanganui for a few days. We were killing time before a dinner reservation so gathered some information for a nearby multi and collected this at the same time. Junior had his mitts on this in no time.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Its early Monday morning so I parked Zara at Moutoa Gardens and walked around Wanganui doing a LAB for a couple of hours. Along the route I just had to come visit here and leave my calling card. Cheers. I was shattered by the time I got back to Zara.
Zara and I came north to catch up with family and friends for Xmas with Rattll,s BBQ also on the radar. A surprise visit to the Etherlord Clan Saturday night and then a couple of days in Wanganui picking up some LABs and Trads to get Signal through the Castle Labyrinth. Then back to Palmy and Wellington. Then with my friend aboard Zara,we did a side trip to Tora, Paihatua, Palmy, Foxton and back to Wellington. And awesome week travelling and catching up with friends with a little caching on the side.

I was wandering around Cooks Gardens in an attempt to solve the multi and saw that this was on my travels so had to look for it. Looked in a reasonable spot and got my hands on a fresh container and logsheet. Signed and replaced. All good here, and TFTC.
PS. My time to walk the 100m is: 1m 13s

#11,718. I am having a weekend away from Wellington sampling the delights of geocaching in the River City. Have come up with geocaching buddy Infoferret and we got an early start as we need to head back to Welly early in the afternoon. I walked over to GZ and searched a number of likely spots. IF had found this one previously and confirmed I was looking in the right spot. Sadly there was no cache present there anymore. Looks like gardeners have been through and tidied up the area. IF had a spare cache in the car so we decided to replace this one to save the CO a trip into town. Signed the logbook and placed the container in the original hiding spot. Thanks mjmnz for placing a cache in this reserve. I always remember it as the place Peter Snell broke the world record for the mile back in 1962.
No luck for us here, but note it hasn't been found for over a year. Watched a runner doing training laps and left again. Off to another cache...
Over in Wanganui for one of the Jr. Cacher's hockey games and decided to do some post-game shopping before heading home. Mr All7ofusNZ decided that grabbing the nearby cache would be a better option so headed over to GZ to have a look. Didn't take too long to find, signed the log, and returned as found. TFTC.
(Sorry for the late log but only just realized that this wasn't logged when clearing out the caches on the phone)

We travelled down from National Park to Wanganui this morning, and had nothing else planned, so plenty of time to pick up caches along the way and in this area. What a great stadium, good spot, TFTC
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I are on a bit of a Christmas Roadtrip from Auckland to Ingill & back ... we'll be doing a few geocaches on our travels ... this being the 169th cache of hopefully many ... we had been spent Christmas in Invercargill & were now heading back to Auckland, taking the scenic route ... we were now heading North, had been up the West Coast of the South Island ... were now going 'round the mountain' before heading back to Auckland ... were staying the night in Wanganui ... be rude not to grab some caches on the way ... quick & easy find ... another 'smiley face' to the tally ... TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #1,903 for us.
We were unable to find this cache on a previous visit in 2014 and our initial search today was unsuccessful, although in fact we had felt within about 2 cm of the cache. We then read the previous logs and became aware of a spoiler photo. We returned to the car to view this, after which the cache was a quick easy find. TFTC
Out exploring Whanganui today. Quickly spotted and signed. Thanks for the cache.
Up in Wanganui (from Wellington) for the weekend and grabbing a few caches along the way. This was one of them. a sunny Saturday afternoon seemed like the ideal time to vist here. The first gate I tried was locked. No matter, I could see people inside so I'll walk around until I find an open one. Had I gone left, I would have been inside in seconds, however I went right ... I chose poorly. I walked past many locked gates, until I eventually found an open one almost exactly opposite where I wanted to be. Once I finally made it to the location it did not take long to locate the cache, all safe and dry. TFTC
Day 2 (With Squirrel Nutcase)
After a big day yesterday it was more of the same today but at a slower pace gathering up a few caches that we had missed.
Will have to return in the future to try and complete this area.
Arrived back in Rotorua about 7pm with about 80 caches ticked off. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... On a road trip weekend - We haven’t been on anything like this since Covid Episode One in March. A special Community Event in Whanganui got our attention. So we’re off to the ‘River City’ for a bit of fun...
Day Two of our adventure; the mop up - Today is dedicated to any hides we’ve missed previously, and a general tidy up of the geomap... We tried to find an easy way into the grounds, but the gates were locked. Let’s drive around - If the roadway gates are closed, we’ll move on... A women’s league game was in progress and it was awesome watching from our high vantage point. Thanks mjmnz and TFTC.

Another DNF avenged! A big thanks to the CO for replacing this. Took a minute or so to narrow down where I thought it’d be. Once I located it I used my GPSr to check the coordinates. I will message the CO with my co-ordinates and where it put me in relation to the cache (I don’t want to add it in here for spoiler reasons). TFTC!
replaced the cache but needed to use a slightly different placeas all vegetation removed so used my phone. Not sure of accurancy so will add a good hint as well as spoiler pic. Please could someone check the coordinations with a GPS and let me know

No luck for us here this evening. Used our GPSr and it took us straight a spot that matches up with the hint however there’s nothing there. Unsure if we are looking in the wrong place still. Will keep an eye out.
only one couple of runners here today so able to retrieve easily. came here many years ago to watch my sister racing. tftc
I had been here before but with a like minded friend it was cool to go back here and have a good look and we finally got it. I wonder what Peter would think of geocaching.
Had to return to find this one as last time I came seemed to be athletics night and way too many people around. Nicely tucked away cache.
Spent a pleasant day caching in Whanganui. The forecast rain held off until late in the day which was good. A DNF 6 years a go a quick find today. Maybe I'm getting better at this. Cheers and TFTC
What a wonderfull time. I`'m visiting NZ for 10 weeks and find a lot of beautiful places. Nice views and some pretty caches. With my wife kaari74 we log some of these caches. One of them is this one. Thanks all owners for your job.
Have tried this previously in the dark but thus time returned. We were in the wrong area last time so once in right place was an easy find with no muggles around. Tftc. One day closer to our cache a day challenge.
Now we reached wanganui and took a short break for lunch and some caches. At the time there must have been a oldtimer meeting because we saw a lot of them and some really empressive steam machines. TFTC
On our way to Kai Iwi we took a well deserved break and visited Wanganui and some Caches.

Today we are in Whanganui. We stay in a hotel less than 100 meters. So this box was our first walk.

Found on a blustery Monday afternoon after finishing work for the day. I finally had the chance to come up here and look around. TFTC
I have set myself a goal to get the requirements for the mystery cache The well-rounded cacher challenge (Manawatu) So each time I go out caching weather it is by myself or with fellow cacher I will try to get a least one cache that will get me closer to my goal
Needed to get some new tyres for the car I went to book in and they said they could fit me in right now so I said yes, While they were fitting the tyres I took the opportunity to take a short walk over to were this cache was located and have a good look for it, because the last time I had a go it was raining and my GPS was jumping all over the place,
This time I was in luck I found the cache when I went to sign the log book I discovered I had no pen on me so I had to go back and get a pen and come back and sign the log
Thanks for the cache

Been here plenty of times with mini cachers athletics but never thought to check, quick find, thanks
Had to search for a while the gps bounced all over bit finally I got it. Nice view. Tftc.
Coordinates out but spotted the likely hiding place and so it was. Signed Team IE. TFTC
Got to GZ and spotted it peeping out. Log was full so left a paper temp one. TFTC and greetings from the UK
#9647. As we came to explore more of Whanganui and its surrounding areas, we thought we would check out this famous athletics games venue once again. GZ was all quiet when we visited. Quick find. The cache itself was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. But the log book was full. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

#3521 19 of 24 today.
Day 5 of my NZ trip (already ?) and the weather was very pleasant today and should be OK for the remaining few days. Today I was in and around Whanganui. Before lunch I visited Mowhanu, just up north and then the Bason Botanic gardens which has quite a few geocaches. After lunch I slowly headed back into town via Nobby's Grotto which has some very cool caches and then a few "urban" caches around town. I should have found a lot of caches today but my eye was not "in" today and I missed heaps. Perhaps the only downside of the day.
The log is quite full. I suspect I overwrote a faded previous log.

Very quick find in the showery rain...where the hell is summer? Not here, that is for sure. Visiting for Blenheim and thought we would get at least one cache...the log is chocka, needs a new piece of paper....tftc
We travelled to Wanganui today to do a little geocaching before tomorrow's International Geocaching Day event.
It was great to get back here today and finally sign off this cache. We missed out on it four years ago because it had gone awol, and this was the first opportunity to try again. We had to widen our search quite a bit, the co-ords proving to be about 8m out for us. However, we suddenly spotted it poking out, and have tried to conceal it a little better now. TFTC

Went for a walk in Cooks Gardens by torchlight after dinner in the city. A quick find for this one in the first place checked. Signed log, TFTC
First cache on this visit to Whanganui.
Made a point of doing this and another Masters Games cache as last time I was here was when the Masters were on I was playing in a different sport in another venue and suspected that there would be too much activity here to make a search practicable.
Started off today with my phone whose GPS was jumping around, once I fired up my GPSr it soon pointed me to the right place for a quick find.

this was a super quick find as the cache was in plain sight, pointed it out to hubby who picked it up, placed back where we think was the correct spot, thanks for the placement.
Nice hide a bit hard to get with the rugby on but a bit of stealth and I had it in hand tftc
Another quick find here today not much happening here today, just some silly (very fit person) jumping up the steps in the grandstand i say three steps at a time , i said to him he was mad and he agreed but he kept going, so we left him to it and onto the cache.so thanks for the placement and the smiley.signed the log and replaced as found.
