Miss 11 has a school workshop at West Eyreton Hall today, so GeoHubby (GNARwhal) and I had a few hours to kill. What should we do? Geocache of course!Plenty of caches around the area, so we did a bit of a loop, stopping halfway round at Manderville for sustenance and coffee. We thought we knew where this cache might be hidden, but it was a little further on. We both dove into the bushes at different spots, and Geohubby made the find. Thanks for the cache.
On a Mass Cache Mission with That Darn Bear whist UnicornLex attends a homeschooling thing
Today decided to go for caches that havent been found for a while another find. Log went but able to sign.
Took a few moments to find because of the bushes and for once my iPhone GPS was spot on
We were expecting this to be near the 80km sign, but no, it was further away than we thought, but found it in the end, with angelic_kiwi. tftc
Had another look but still had to DNF it. If it is supposed to be at the 80 sign then the sign has been moved and the cache gone.

Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.
With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...
There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!
1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...
We have another one of those punishing plans to cache until we drop - An early morning start with the hope that we'll finish at a reasonable time... From South Christchurch, we took Highway 1 and crossed the Waimakariri River into Northern Christchurch... No hint, but a reasonably quick find nevertheless. Thanks bumandworker and TFTC.

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with ABCDF4 we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

Nice to get rid of the blue frown on my map, thanks for replacing the cache after my dnf 4 years ago B&W

With no luck after 10 minutes of searching, starting reading previous logs. Took some inspiration from one particular log; TFTC
Off to Bennetts for sawdust to keep the chickens happy. A insisted that we find 2 or 3 caches on the way home. This was number 2. A nice find by A and yes the previous log was indeed pulp. TFTC
Spotted the telltale blue from the top of the bank. It was full of water and brown pulp which was formerly the log! Added a replacement waterproof log. Tftc

Found after a short subversion too the wrong plant. Log sheet was wet but I managed to dry out enough to sign it. Thanks to all cache owners for taking the time to place and maintain your caches. Team Broadbent (signed TB on micros). Find # 1880
When I pulled up here I thought it might take a while to find but I immediately spotted a wee something of interest - I love it when that happens TFTC
Not a difficult cache to get to, however I would agree with MrMrsB that is is more than 1.5 which leads to searching nearer the road rather than down the bank (a wee bank)
Mush found, waterproof sheet left.
Now all good at GZ
Thanks for another smilie.
Hoping to see you at the [Oamaru Geofest](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6M2V0_oamaru-geofest-2017) during Labour Weekend 21-22 October 2017. Let's all help this a successful event!
Did you know that planning has started for a Mega Event in Wellington in 2018? Check out the details on the [Wellington Event NZ (WENZ) Website](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event's page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/).
Thanks to the Cache Owner who has gone to the trouble of creating this cache, determining the coordinates and then averaging them to make sure they are accurate, placing the cache and registering it online for our enjoyment. Without Cache Owners doing their bit, there wouldn't be a fun hobby that we all love - so again a big THANK YOU. For our bit, all we need to do is find and log the cache that was carefully placed for our personal enjoyment. As we log it we should consider that the Cache Owner also needs to maintain it - when the log sheet fills up, they must replace it. When the container becomes full of water, they need to empty it. When the container is broken, they need to repair it. When it goes missing they need to find or replace it. Well..... the great news is we can do our bit too - make sure your log doesn't take an entire page - just a name and date. If full of water, empty and dry the cache as best as possible. Be careful when handling the cache and make sure you replace it where you found it. If it has a bag, seal it. Just remember - the Cache Owner showed respect to you by placing the cache - please respect them and fellow cachers that follow you by being careful with the cache. And if you have a spare log sheet and the cache you are at needs one, please leave it behind. Finally, if the cache does need maintenance, please let the Cache Owner know - you can log a Maintenance Log or you can drop a line to the Cache Owner. Above all - have fun and remember the Geocaching Code.

Begins our holiday in NZ in Christchurch, we came from Italy to find our son who lives there for two years.
Long trip, but surprisingly we arrived there very tired, almost two days and two nights without sleep, but it took just 24 hours we got used to the new day.
Having Been to Akaroa and Kaukoura, and trail AHHH FRESH, today we decide to make a part of the trail from Kaiapoi to Oxford, we will find many cache, not the other will find, before we left we had decided to devote no more than three minutes for each cache, if it was not passed over it, some need maintenance, beautiful landscape and few cars on the course.
Thank you for suggesting this trail
Greetings from Italy

More than a T1.5 to get to this one. On a 11 day caching trip around the south island. Log signed as b&p.Tftc bumandworker. Find # 3365
Today we enjoyed picking up caches from the lolly scramble trail, the fruit and vege trail, the cust trail and other various caches around the area. We found 50 caches altogether and had a great day. Caching with Injeanious and theBurnsy we signed the log books as JeJeBu to save time and space. Thanks to the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches! Sorry for the cut and paste logs.
It's been a slow couple of months for me and Jess.daphne, so we decided to team up with The Burnsy and get a whole lot of caches. We headed off to pick up more of the Lolly Scramble, Fruit and Vege, and Cust trails, signing the logs as JeJeBu. We had a great day and grabbed 50 caches. Our best day yet! Thanks to the COs for the caches.
Had to hunt for this one, wasn't quite where we expected. Tftc.

Found after we failed on the last attempt during the mega event last year . Mind you we were following the elephant trails then!! Tftc
Our recent multi day Canterbury cache raid was so successful we decided to have another one before the holidays finished. Again we got stabbed, prodded, pricked and scraped by the variety of hedges the region is so famous for. And of course we can now hold our breath a lot longer. A skill well worth developing to avoid breathing in part of the road surface every time a vehicle passes. Just over 200 finds were logged this time and a great time was had finding the caches with a variety of shapes, sizes and placements. A big thank you to all COs who made this possible.
With a few more days of holidays left we decided to head south again and find some caches we didn't have time to look for last week, plus some more off the beaten track. This was one of 52 found today.
Thank you to all CO's who made this possible.

easy find. Thanks

Decided that on my last day of my holiday I'd do a blitz in the area before I fly home tomorrow, now a very tired bunny!
Out and about with Pagenz prior to the event nearby and thought we would pick up a few roadside caches. TFTC
This one has been missing for about two months now, so hopefully the owner is able to head out and replace it
THis is one I had left off the originally logging in of our 200+ caches we visited as a team called HHSS. We had a long day but achieved our goal and headed home as it got dark pleased with our great achievement and thanks to the seagnoid's great planning.. The logging in is also a great task but apart from one more to find that I didn't log originally they are logged. Thanks for the cache and another smiley face.
No luck here with nic-jay although the co-ords and hint matched up. Was very cautious about the electric fence!
Thought we looked well but no luck.
Maybe too much activity here drew attention to muggles? Or we were off the pace??
A few dnfs now though. Thanks

Another quick find on Day 2 of the Mega, hitting the roads of Canterbury with vistra and yorkshirekiwi83, gathering the caches that the area had to offer. A quick find here, thanks for the hide!
Came down to Christchurch for the 2015 MEGA with a group of caching buddies for the weekend. My first MEGA, and it was fantastic- loved every minute, the caching, the events, meeting other like-minded crazies (sorry, I mean cachers!!!). Our group found 283 caches throughout the course of the of the weekend, so apologies for the cut and paste logs- but it's going to take me hours to log them all!!!! All logs were signed as SEAC (South East Auckland Crew), to reflect out home caching base!
HUGE thanks to all involved in putting on the MEGA event, and also to all of the Chch CO's for the effort gone to in their hides- we found some awesome caches, including fantastic hides, and cleverly done camo.... well done Christchurch, you're an awesome bunch!
Found this one no issues before all the DNFs got logged....

Caching with capperz and G H 6 7 1 0 chasing caches and numbers across the Canterbury area. Was a great MEGA weekend and thanks to all the CO's who made it all possible.

Out caching with Team FARKIS (fmz, alpenmilch80, rosmar, kiwi.bug, indianajill, slieschke) while down for the CHC mega event. This was one of the caches we visited along the way. Thanks to all the owners of caches we found! TFTC
At the CHCH Mega, meandering our way around the area finding caches. We enjoyed this powertrail along the road. SL. TFTC.
In Christchurch for the MEGA. On a mission today, with Darby & Joan for as many finds as possible, with out doing ourselves in.
Thought we'd just follow or noses and head out to Rangiora and beyond, where ever the caches took us. At Cust we made a turn, heading round the block on our way back to Kaiapoi.
Sunny day but thst wind was a bit nippy. TFTC

Part of the “South East Auckland Crew” here for the Christchurch Mega. All logs done as “SEAC”. Sorry for the Generic logs…but when logging 200 in a day it can be a bit much. But thank you so much for placing all these awesome caches
Not hard to find - but well hidden still from curious eyes on the road.

An epic day of caching today, out to achieve 200+ finds in a day while I'm in Christchurch for the Mega event. There was also the lure of a virtual cache down in Peel forest, which isn't really that far from the numbers game along Thompsons track. A great day out and about, revisiting places I haven't been in years, and finding new places along the way. I teamed up with Capperz and Nightowl19 at 0600 in Rolleston, and off we headed in my cache mobile and general all purpose off road land rover. We signed the logs primarily as G C N to save space and time. Sorry about the cut and paste logs, but with over 200 caches to log it's going to take me a while to catch up. Thanks to all the Cache owners for the time taken to place and maintain them, and making it all possible. A nice series this, T F T C
Off to the Mega this weekend and a 2 day pass has been granted for Geocaching purposes. It being a long weekend and all there was definitely a plan to get some caches and keep the numbers ticking along. Finished work at 12.00 and waited for the accompanying nightowl19 to finish her school morning. Pick her up and back home to get changed and a bite to eat before heading down the line. There's an event in Rangiora that we'd like to attend and we need to check into our accommodation. All interspersed with few caches too. Today is the planned 200 plus in a day, to be followed by as many types in a day on Sunday, then back home Sunday arvo. Quite the whistle-stop tour. Weather played fair, we ate take aways all weekend. . . . . . . . . . . shameful parenting, and had a great time. Even got to cache with G H 6 7 1 0 too, bonus. We set off at 0600 and were all done by 2000 so not toooo long a day. A few hundred kms driven by G H and in the comfort of his 4 x 4 too.
To all the COs that placed these caches many thanks for facilitating this epic journey and (normally difficult caching target. In Marlborough I've already done so many so big numbers days are nigh on impossible without having to travel out great distances. Most logs were signed G C N being an acronym of our combined caching names. We replaced around half a dozen which were plainly missing on Thompsons Track which will surely help those who follow us.
Apologies for the cut and past logs and last of all T F T C all . Thanks

A plan was hatched way back in April to bring a group of crazy cachers from the South Auckland area for a weekend of lovely caching at the Mega. For most of us it was our first Mega and what a blast we had. From the first event cache at the Airport, surprising one of our group with a birthday trip to the Mega (literally 30min warning to boarding!), meeting lots of like minded people around the Kaiapoi district and to the manic days caching to late, late in the night with our mega flags flying we all had such a great time.
All logs were signed as SEAC South East Auckland Crew. Sorry for the cut and paste log, but all the trails, trads and tricks imagined by all the local CO’s were fantastic.
Thank you to everyone for their wonderful hides. TFTC!

Found during the Mega weekend on bit of a tiki-tour around the Canterbury back blocks. Great weather, great caches, great fun! Thanks to all the cache owners for putting out and maintaining caches for us to find. All in all, a fun road trip with Boxhill and Yeetrees, we signed many of the logsheets as YGB to save both time and logsheet spaces.

Found with whiskasnz as we were driving around looking for stamps for our bingo sheet. Not enough time to do all the caches, will have to come back for a longer stay. TFTC
Second day whilst down in Christchurch for the mega and this was much more relaxed with some caching, some socialising and then some night caching.
Thanks for the cache - signed log as SEAC (South East Auckland Crew)

Found as part of the Dunedin Caching Crew (DCC), enjoying the Christchurch NZ Mega.
Today was a stamp collection day. Mycro Man and the fairy half decided we would do all the caches that had stamps in them. Total round trip of 260km approximately and a few of them had missing / stolen stamps. Mycro Man really enjoyed finding the caches and stamping the stamps. There were a number of really nice caches and we interspersed a few of the caches with high favourites amongst the list. Thanks for all the caches.
First full official day of the Mega long weekend we (Dunedin Caching Crew - DCC) hit the road and went for a drive to log as many caches as we could.
Took a bit longer because was looking at a differnt thing which matched the hint.

Another great find with Just-Lookin.
Thanks for adding to the enjoyment of our MEGA trip.
We soon had the container located.

In town for a “Mega” weekend of caching. I joined up with Yeetrees and gonefishing to form Team YGB. I really enjoyed exploring the country roads of Canterbury. We travelled a fair few Kilometres in the 4 days we were here, and had a great time, with a lot of laughs along the way. Good weather, and good company. It doesn’t get much better than that does it.
Thanks to all the CO’s for all the caches we found.
