Quick find on a rainy sat afternoon popping out of the car!

12-Aug-24
We struggled to solve the Footwall Flats geoart but once we cmhad this was an easy find! Exactly where the coordinates led us to and would be an excellent place for a TB. TFTC.

08-Apr-24
Aw, I miss Footrot Flats. No problem with the find, and cache is still in excellent order. Tftc!

03-Mar-24
Catching up on DNFs. Looked in all likely spots down low that match the hint with no luck. But my window was short between muggle action.

29-Jun-23
Nice easy find, but the trick was avoiding the locals! Tftc.

03-Jun-23
Great day to try knock o few of these off. Many thanks - all good here

20-Feb-23
Fast find, now I know how to interpret such words. TFTC Smile

30-Nov-22
After school mission to get a few more of the kiwi. Muggles galore here, waited patiently til all clear.
Thanks!

05-Nov-22
Spent a few hours at various locations around the inlet today mainly trying to knock off a few more Kiwi GeoTrail caches.
Cache #2 for today and another nice simple quick find at a location made viable by the cleaver hint. No problems here today, all in good order.
TFTC

30-Oct-22
I felt a bit exposed on the way up so left this one until the return journey. By this time I had had tome to think about the likely hide and went straight to it. TFTC

21-Oct-22
Loved solving the puzzles! Now enjoying getting out and finding the caches

26-Jun-22
Down from Northland for a few days visiting daughter who has moved into a new flat in Porirua. The weather wasn't that flash on arrival day, but today dawned bright and clear with almost no wind.

So while the other half had a sleep in, I headed out for a walk to pick up a few local caches. The Kiwi Geotrail puzzles were nearby and so I had made a point of solving them all in the last month, so they were the prime target this morning.

Didn't take long at GZ to locate the cache, despite another muggle across the road washing their car, who didn't pay any attention to someone with their head in the bushes and bum sticking out literally on the road and I was soon able to sign the log and then replace securely as found. TFTC

24-Feb-22
KTG and I started working on the Geotrail. We have spent the last few weeks working out all the clues.... now it's time to turn the kiwi into 1 big smiley face. TFTC

24-Feb-22
It took and I a wee while to figure out the trick to this puzzle, but once we got that it was plain sailing from there. Hint was helpful to find the cache. KTG

17-Feb-22
Upon reaching the GZ, the hint suddenly made complete sense, loving these puzzles, cheers

25-Oct-21
Found with matagouri on a Labour Day cache hunt. Tftc.

25-Oct-21
Out caching with TharntheHalken, doing some more of the Kiwi GT. Quick find as per hint. All good in cache, tftc!

03-Oct-21
Tftc easy find!
Out on a mission with geeves90 and hayzz

03-Oct-21
My first question was what type of ivy is that...
Hayzz just dove on in...
Diagnosis of plant type coming soon

03-Oct-21
Out with Kimmy+co and Geeves90 for a morning of fun.

26-Sep-21
Puzzle was good fun. Pick up at GZ left me wondering for a bit but duly worked out in the end. Wandering the streets picking up my first few Geo Trails with a plan to knock a few off each time. TFTC.

12-Jun-21
Have spent last week solving these puzzles with just 6 unsolved. Spending the weekend in Porirua so decided to start collecting as many as I can today. Got the right direction. Cache all fine. Thanks for the smiley.

27-May-21
Filling in time while the traffic thinned out.
Had this solved a while ago
Nice quick find
Log signed tmwwNZ

08-May-21
Yay, fourth find in street found with Flossie110. TFTC and the puzzle.

20-Feb-21
Found it in its spot . Log was in bits so added a new semi waterproof log sheet. TFTC

12-Dec-20
Solved some time ago - I'm finding them in dribs and drabs. Today I found four; this was my third. A rather exposed location but I think we found it between passers by. TFTC.

30-Aug-20
Another puzzle that stumped me. A nice quick find thanks to the clue!

30-Aug-20
Got stuck after finding the cache as a kid as milling around

18-Jul-20
Found with 13YO. I have so many great memories of this comic from when I was younger. Its popularity has faded these days - I will have to dig up some of the books and get them in front of our kids. TFTC

I have lost my notebook! Sad When I go on a geotrip I record my finds and notes in a notebook or, as in the case of this big circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki that Taybeedragon and I did over Christmas, in three notebooks. And I have lost notebook number 3 - 29th December onward. Luckily I enter the caches as found on the GPS (helps with avoiding backtracking) so I am using my GPS log to identify which caches I found/DNFed. Alas, however, no cache notes. So it is now March - and I am relying on memory. A fickle thing, memory. I suspect most will have no notes above. Sorry, folks. I mean, I can see the final on the map, and sometimes that sparks a memory, but mostly - no.
Many thanks for a great geoart. I have been saving this for when I can do the whole lot in one day.

04-Jan-20
Running around Pahatahanui Inlet today to capture a family of Kiwis roaming around here. Replaced log with Temp RITR log to keep #4 rolling along. Cheers
Thanks to The Seagnoid for his puzzle solving abilities.

Day 23 - Saturday, 4 January 2020. Wellington. It the Kiwi series at Paramata today thats been on The Seagnoids 'must do' list for some time. Then The Seagnoid ships out. Sadly our 3 week holiday to Taranaki is over today.
Seen heaps, done heaps. Loved it. The Kiwi series is our finale. Cheers

I tried and failed to understand these clues 3 or 4 years ago when new to geocaching and soon gave up. Now my son MightyMicra has started we had a combined look at them and finally got over the hurdle. Cracked a dozen or so today! TFTC.

We have been having great fun solving all the puzzles and finding when possible. We took advantage of the sunny day and came an grabbed a few today. This was a simple find.

30-Jun-19
Today is the 14th day of our journey to the south island. I had planned to complete the Kiwi Geotrail before we head to Wellington to take the ferry to the south island. Having arrived near the Lake yesterday I was able to pick up seven of the series on our way to the campsite after visiting Rivendell and eating dinner in the Upper Hut area. We spent the night at the edge of the lake and after eating breakfast I started to collect the Kiwi Caches at around 9:30am.
I mannaged to find 55 caches today, 54 of which to complete the Kiwi. It took me a total of 10 1/2 hours to complete the trail at 8:00pm in a rather slow pace.
This was # 50 of 55 caches today. We are now down to the last 5 caches to complete this trail. As I never read footrot flats I didn't know where to go with the puzzle untill I got a helping hint. Once at GZ it was a quick find. Tftc

08-Jun-19
Team GST (Gr33nslime, Stardust718, TwigNZ) got together again for another caching trip. This time with a focus on finding all the Porirua Kiwi GeoTrail. We had a lovely drive around the area over 8 hours in which I found 70 caches. The parking at times was quite tricky and crossing the busy road was even worse but we all ended the day mostly unharmed (except for a few scratches from gorse).

I started solving all the kiwi caches only 2 weeks before our trip. Fortunately most of them were quite straight forward and the information that was required was almost immediately obvious.

#57 of 70 today. A quick find here fortunately thanks to having a previous finder with us.

08-Jun-19
I was out and about today as part of Team GST (Gr33nslime, Stardust718, TwigNZ), working our way around the Pauatahanua Inlet finding all the Porirua Kiwi GeoTrail series of puzzle caches, plus a few selected others along the way.

In spite of the recent bad weather, we were lucky enough to have mainly sunshine today although the blowing southerly certainly left the air very fresh at times. I had already found a few of this series, as had Gr33nslime, but for the sake of ease whilst logging, all logs today were signed 'Team GST' regardless of whether we had found them before or not.

In spite of having lived in Whitby for 4 years a while back, I had never driven down this road before. I must admit that whilst it kinda makes sense from a "having to hide 61 caches in an urban setting" point of view, it felt a bit exposed being here. We decided to drive to the end and work our way back so that the hides would be on the same side of the road as we were driving on.

This cache was probably the most exposed of the lot, simply due to the combination of location and passing traffic. With a previous finder though, we were lucky not to have to spent too much time searching around. Stardust made the find and signed the log on behalf of the team.

Thanks for the Puzzle, and the cache. A great way to help me celebrate 2 years of caching.

A nemesis cache for but found at last. TFTC

21-Oct-18
Today was the last official day of the Mega.
Plans were to collect as many puzzle caches that we had solved in the area plus anything else that came along.
Most of the puzzles were road side witch was extremely busy so parking in some cases were peoples driveways and balancing on road edges and some we didn't go for as they were to difficult to get to. Another day and we have to return.
Al in all a very successful day. SLTFTC

21-Oct-18
TFTC. Kiwi GeoTrail was oe of the targets for three keen MEGA attendees. KotukuSI and warfi were great companions and puzzle solvers in prep for this adventure.
We manged to complete the caches in a day (minus 2) and were truely warn out after our activities.
thanks to the original placer and the cachers who have taken over maintainence of the trail.

WENZ Mega Weekend is finally here... Our big focus for today will be to clear out the Kiwi Geo Art trail around the Pauatahanui Basin. We are expecting some challenges here - narrow roads and lots of muggles. With Gap (of Fap and Gap), NZFlossy, and McJandals...

Sunday: We were a little more relaxed today, since there were no pressures to be at certain places on time... We enjoyed solving each of the puzzles in this series. Each one provided just the right amount of challenge. What a great variety of authentic kiwiana puzzles...

We managed to find most of the Kiwis in their hides. Some were in a lot better condition than others, and we can imagine how challenging it might be to maintain some of them. We found the speed and flow of traffic, and tight parking made things difficult at times. We learnt to be resourceful and resilient as the day drew on. In all, thanks to each of the COs for your input into this series... Apologies for the cut and paste logs. TFTP and TFTC.

Lidless...

21-Oct-18
Out caching the GeoArt with warfi & purdiepurdie; past the middle of the day & collective enthusiasm was waning a bit...
We had solved these puzzles over the last little while in anticipation of the Mega, but I wouldn't generally recommend doing them all in 1 hit ! The "northern wing" was definitely more fun than the southern side.
Thanks for maintaining these caches, CaligulaNZ.

21-Oct-18
Felt rather exposed grabbing this one, but managed to find a time when there was nobody driving past. The lid has come off the cache but the log was ok. tftc

21-Oct-18
Attending the mega with TeamBOP. Great time to catch up with other cachers and visit Wellington lLots of fun and laughs while finding lots of great caches Thanks to all the COs for providing all the caches and the work that goes into them. Sorry for the generic logs will try to add to them once back home Thanks

Attending the Wellington MEGA, great to visit here from the sunny Bay of Plenty, these finds have been found with my team members, which include myself, NZ Flossy, Squirrel Nutcase, FapandGap, Philip Perry, TNXPRO and Davidson Clan (To save room on logs) We are having a blast and gathering lots of smileys along the way. Please excuse generic logs in advance. (as I have saved the template using Cachly) Many Thanks to all you cache owners for the placements. Cheers

I left this one to Nanzie to find while I spoke to Sir Belac on the phone who was just about to go to the airport to fly up to meet us for the mega. Thanks for the trail

18-Oct-18
On a long trip down to the mega with Lis's crew. So for me it good for numbers and favorites caches. With several stops and a lot of caches and several souvenirs up for grabs the trip was the perfect opportunity to get my numbers up and get some challenges that I have qualified for. Today we were targeting the Kiwi GeoTrail and trying to get fifty in a day which we just managed. This happened to include a lo of driving back and forth around the inlet and getting other side caches. but we managed a few walks in between for some of the other caches. Thanks to everyone who is maintaining these caches and keeping them going.

We're on a 10 day geocaching trip from the far north. This is our 6th day. I was aiming for a long line of smiles down SH1, solved puzzles, different cache types and highly favourited caches. I've been looking forward to collecting this series for years. Some I solved way back in 2015. This one was only solved in August this year. I watched the movie years ago and always liked Dave Dobbyn's music. A quick find here, thanks Smile

18-Oct-18
37th of the kiwi geoart puzzle day with gely57. Back to the car for some more park n grabs. Team work once again as we were searching both sides. TFTC.

18-Oct-18
Worked out the co-ords with Teahan Family and as we are both over for the MEGA event we tried to complete the series today. Some caches were found in very good condition (being looked after by SAROC) and some that are in need of attention with wet logs and rusty containers. Really enjoyed the series, thanks CO.

06-Jul-18
Good find. TFTC

21-May-18
Great puzzle, straightforward find although pretty exposed GZ

24-Mar-18
# 1040 The Planetary Challenge encouraged me to revisit this series of caches that I had solved about four years ago and hadn't yet got around to collecting, as I had left the area and was now back. I was happy that in four years only four had to be resolved, so that is a great effort for a big series like this!

With DangerSAM and JimmyNZ in tow, we went for a walk in a shower of rain on a Saturday afternoon to pick up a few of the series nearer to the train track. On our way back we thought we would get some park and grabs. This is a park and grab type but i sure did feel very very exposed fossicking around GZ with the many possible approaches from cars. I kept looking over my shoulder at the cars on the highway, as i was digging endlessly at the spot I thought it should be. Turns out it was where I thought. Log was completely saturated so I replaced it with a piece of paper. I replaced in a much more user friendly position than where I had found it, still nicely tucked away!

Thanks to all CO and cachers who have contributed to this geo art and kept it going.

So Gr33nslime had been going on about this solar, universe challenge thing (?) for a few days and with the weekend approaching, we decided it was time to dust off the old geocaching shoes and go out on the hunt again. With master DangerSAM in tow we knew that we would have to be targeted at the caches we were going after and Gr33nslime was the one that inevitably came up with the answer. Tucked away in her geocaching tool box was her list of solved mystery caches. Turns out she had been really fastidious and solved a whole lot of the Kiwi GeoTrail series over in the Porirua Harbour area. This seemed like a good plan so we started looking for groupings of the mysteries and planned from there. Gr33nslime soon discovered however that some of the caches had moved and worse the puzzles changed! After a few hours though she had managed to correct enough of them that we could make a plan to hit them today. After parking up next to the Marine View boat ramp (with the ever watchful fisheries officers on watch) we bundled DangerSAM off into his DangerPram and set off up the coast. Dispite the rain we managed to hit a few of the caches. Really disappointing the first one we tried wasn’t there though. After getting a couple we drove back towards the valley with DangerSAM giving commentary on the way. A quick stop up a windy side street and Gr33nslime was off again, poking through bushes, mud and all sorts to get more caches. Felt very exposed in some of these locations, but points were needed so off we pushed. I have to hand it to Gr33nslime for her numerous finds today, I just seemed to be there to find one and give moral support. But at least we have gotten off planet earth on our little exploration.

02-Jan-18

I got here just on dusk. It was not too hard to find, but I had to wait for a while for several dog walkers to go on their way!

The lid is broken off the container, but it still clips back into place. The log book is a little bit damp but perfectly ok.

Thank you

#340. That's 6 down, on the Kiwi Geotrail. Relatively easy find, but this being autumn, it takes some scrabbling in dead leaves. Log a little damp, but ok. So ends my 2nd day on this trail, but I will return soon! Great theme: love Footrot Flats! Tftc XbX & CaligulaNZ.

After a wee hold up at Christchurch airport due to fog my Wellington solo trip began. I decided to start at Johnsonville and then see what happened next.
Luckily the workmen had moved well away from gz.

Nearly time for us to head for home but not before logging this puzzle cache. Its been a busy week with all types of weather to content with rain sun wind but not time for home and then heading off to Auckland for the long weekend to a wedding. Thank you for placing these amazing styles shapes
d puzzles out here for us to work out and collect. it was a nice quick find we placed the cache back where we found it all ready for the next cacher to find. no muggles today just lots of cars parked up the street. TFTPC

14-Jan-17
I have a goal today and to help me reach that goal Watcache was nice enough to keep my company while I work towards my goal of reaching 3000 caches.

The plan was hatched and the caches we wanted for your goals were noted and the order to do them in we set off around 10.30am weather was in our favor with only a couple of drops here and there and got home close to midnight, goal reached and one good sleep was much needed.

thank you for taking the time to place the cache, we enjoyed visiting each one of them, we will need another plan to come back and grab some more.

#3078. The last day of spring and the last day of Nov. I need 2 more caches today to reach 250 finds in this month for a challenge series. Decided to target more caches that I have solved on the Kiwi geotrail to boost up numbers for the day. I thought I had solved this one ages ago but a careful search of the various exercise books and other records revealed nothing so set about doing it a couple of weeks ago. The last cache in the bird's beak. This evening I pulled up nearby and while the hiding spot was obvious, the houses nearby with open windows and moving muggles was a challenge. But managed to nip over and grab the cache quite quickly. Signed the logbook beside the car and then snuck back to replace it as found. Thanks for maintaining this cache. By the way the logbook I signed had TWS on the back of it. So not sure if there is a second logbook I missed. The one I found was the cut-down notebook by KingsportS referred to by robnzh and lots of cachers names up to Jan 2016 at least.

05-Nov-16
Found with skaga on a mission. Thanks for placing the cache.

#2610 Making the most of a beautiful Wellington day and clearing up some of the Kiwi Geotrail with bijouxtoo. Quick find before a local muggle showed up to do some garden work. TFTC!

I thought about trying this during the day in the past but too much traffic. On a Sunday night however, not a soul. Kind of spooky actually. I suspected where the cache might be based on the hint (wasn't going to attempt this without it), pointed the torch there, switch it on and there was the cache bathed in light. Wasn't going to stand there to sign the log so retreated to the footpath to sign under the streetlight. Getting the log out and in was a bit of mission in itself because the bag is somewhat oversized.

10-day mystery streak, day 10. Quick find, all in good shape. Thanks for the cache Smile

07-Jan-16
Called by this one again today to see all was quiet at GZ and pleased to say Mrs nzk made a quick find in the exact spot she'd checked a few days ago. Not sure how she missed it except it's small and well camoed. Log in plastic bag with pencil a very tight fit but nice and dry. Thanks!

06-Jan-16
A quick find, and I was pleased to sign the new logbook when I finally managed to get it out of the tin (a bit of a squeeze). Noting all the greenery at GZ I thought I would have to dig around for this one so put my gardening gloves on! Not necessary, easy find, all good. Thanks for the cache, busy little road, I wonder what the muggles thought I was up to? I should have worn my high viz gear, then the muggles would have thought I was an official something or other.

04-Jan-16
Felt very exposed but couldn't find a cache. .

04-Jan-16
Confirming cache is still there but is an eclipse tin not a pill container. found log to follow once I have completed logs for some previous finds.

04-Jan-16
First attempt at this was unsuccessful but was fairly brief owing to having to abandon owing to a muggle getting into her car nearby. Proceeded on to others in the series, and after that I had to return this way anyway and all was reasonably quiet. Scratched around for quite a while and was on the point of giving up when I put my hands on a quite dirty eclipse container which on opening contained some logs on a piece of paper and a cutdown notebook with just TWS's name on it.

I think this is the one with a pencil in it as well making it a very tight squeeze and I hope I am not confusing that part with one of the others I did today.

A bit of TLC would not go amiss here to get the cache back up to scratch.

TFTC.

Day #4 geocaching in NZ/ second day of two spent in Wellington + surroundings, in good company (=vipema, Veke68 & Katsukka = VVK-FIN in the logbooks, most of the time). Had a great time and found a lot of caches + saw so many interesting/beautiful places.

Thank you!!!!

28-Oct-15
Long time dream came true and we could visit New Zealand. NZ Mega was our maingoal and we had time to find others too. We travelled together with Veke68 and Katsukka and had great time. We used VVK Fin (that is vipema, Veke68 and Katsukka) in mostly logbooks to save space.

Thanks for the cache.

Greetings from Finland.

28-Oct-15
Two days Wellington trip with Vipema and Katsukka. Many nice views and caches. We logged mostly only VVK-FIN to save space in the logbook. Greetings from Finland!

Thanks

I had solved these back in June 2013 and had signed off 12 of them in November 2013. I am now on my way south and have stopped off in the Ngatitoa Domain for a couple of nights before catching the ferry. So it is time to sign off a few more.

Cheers for the cache and the series of puzzles.

19-Sep-15
We had solved this fun series of puzzles back in 2013 in preparation for a trip south in September of that year. As it happened we chose to spend longer in the Wairapapa and never made it over the hill to Wellington. The following September (2014) we made a fleeting visit to Wellington, while staying at Turangi. We concentrated on picking up some other puzzles and ran out of time to tackle the geotrail. This September we are back and have made the Kiwi Trail our first port of call.
We decided to drive the trail clock-wise starting on the northern shore just after daybreak. The driver was not looking forward to finding parking spots at each cache, but as it turned out this was less of an issue than feared - thanks to good preparation by the navigator, and to starting the trail early on a weekend day. In all we found 58 of the 61 caches and had a great day. Thanks to those who have taken on this series to keep it alive.
After a disappointing DNF at the previous cache we were determined to pick this one up even though it meant outwaiting a person in a car parked nearby. Liked the hint on this one.

Find # 108. Quick stop and sign on a late winter afternoon. All fine with the cache, though it's a bit crowded in there! Found with Aros71. TFTC!
