The area is much more overgrown than it was when I set this cache up, and the earthquakes have taken their toll on the gully walls too. I wouldn't want to be in there when the next earthquake happens! To this end, the cache is archived.
Came down from Raumati Tce It's very steep on the last bit to the stream with few trees to hold on to If you slip the final impact is on rocks so be really careful The safe plan is to enter the valley via Tyers Rd A short way downstream I climbed a bank on the true right of the stream and took a distinct path which sidled on a steep slope and finished up high above the stream The GPS signal pointed to a target 20m straight out into mid air So I then went back and followed the pink ribbons on the true left Signal accuracy at GZ was approx +/- 8m and hint made for quick find Cache like a fish tank inside and log totally saturated Dried as best possible and managed to sign Now to follow the pink markers along the benched formation leading to TSR#2 TFTC
Please see log I bagged the cache as temporary measure inside one of those strong Weetbix plastic bags But it really needs a dry out and new log
Took longer search than expected. With a daughter waiting on the car i thought i would go back next time. But before i go i tried reading some logs which was very useful.. Found it on the spot where i first check!

What a great walk this was. Smartphone was pretty useless in the valley, so the description was very helpful. Got fooled by the wrong clump of pungas and clearing, but after heading further on we made a quick find at the next likely spot. We kept on heading up the trail, past some nice deep swimming holes in the stream, and came to the spot where we think an upward climb might have landed us in Raumati Terrace. Didn't fancy it though - too steep. Thanks for the caches and for bringing me to this great spot. Fave point awarded.
#1912. South 41 14.734, East 174 48.147. Finally, converted this one to a smilie. After the abject failure last time I went up Tyers Stream this trip I was better prepared. I had read every log and read the description and hint again. Also confirmed with the CO at a recent event there was no need to cross any streams near the GZ. With this information I headed off on a sunny evening to T3. The track was by now very familiar. As I arrived near the GZ, I reached down under an object and of course it was an instant find of the cache. Oh well, these things happen. Last time I had done a superficial check of that spot but as it was still 18m from the listed coordinates and didn't exactly match the hint description relative to where the track now goes, I went on checking a hundred other spots. Signed the dry log and added a plastic bag. Removed the blue carabiner to use in another caching creation. All good. Track still needs a lot of care to get in and out but recent trimming of gorse has helped. Thanks for the cache.
We forgot to bring a pen so we left a blue carabiner in the cache as proof we were there. Came down from the top at Raumati Terrace. It was quite hard as for the first little bit there was no track then we found one marked with little pink ribbons.
This is the nearest unfound traditional to home and today the plan was to convert it to a smilie. Been up here previously to do the TY1 and TY2 caches. But route to TY3 is a lot more challenging and at the GZ it all came unstuck. Still seemed to be a long way off the GZ but the slope up there looked implausible compared with the description and hint. Well I searched under every large rock near the stream and in areas near the tracks. Just nothing showed up after 30 mins so reluctantly had to admit defeat on this one. Will need a few generous hints to make it worth revisiting. Cheers GSEL
Another urban isolated spot. Track all passable with care. Turn right at the campsite to avoid track disappearing
Short triple, but track is very badly maintained, and with GPS spinning it would be difficult. It was very nice to have visua direction. TFTC
Last time came up here I couldn't find the cache but today no issues as went straight to it. How did I miss it last time? The walk in seemed a lot tougher than last time with a lot more rockfall. Thanks for the cache.
Second visit and a bit easier to find if coming in from the start of the track. TFTC
Looked for this with caching buddy TregearP on our very first day caching. We came down from Raumati Crescent and this was our first hunt which ended in a DNF.
Today came in from the other end, passed #'s 1 & 2 which we did find and then started ticking off the land marks as per the descriptions. Came into the GZ when the GPS still said 18m to go, checked in the prescribed spot and SUCCESS. By the time we'd logged the find the GPS had settled in on 14m from the GZ.
All in good order and nice and dry. Glad to have this one crossed off, TFTC .

Definitely the most challenging of the 3, as it should be. Appreciated the track markers as the trail is over grown in some part. A nice early evening walk. TFTC Cheers!
Finally made it to cache #3 from Tyres road - what a journey! I enjoy having adventures over rough terrain and getting out into the bush but I wouldn't come back here for fun! The "path" if you can call it that was a bit scary at times, like when you think you're about to step on level ground and then your foot falls through into a deep hole. Luckily made it there and back unharmed. Found it easier in some parts to just hop across rocks in the stream rather than use the path. The cache itself was an easy find Closer to the path than the GPS was saying so luckily didn't have to do anymore scrambling down slopes. TFTC - happy to have these 3 ticked off!
Got to the third cache on this trail and a bit of a hike up over some uneven terrain.
Collected the third cache quickly with tmann421 and enjoyed the walk back to the car.

Found without too much trouble using the hint and geocache description. GPS was about 14m out for me. Found the two preceding this one on the way in but will come back to log them. Tftc.
Found on a rather wet Saturday morning run. Wow - this was a significant challenge to get to. The rain had made everything slippery with lots of mud everywhere. There were some very difficult and precarious sections. Somehow made it to GZ where I made a surprisingly straight forward find.
However, that was the easy part. The OpenStreetMap shows a path to Raumati Terrace. I'm stuffed if I could find anything resembling a path. In the end I scrambled up a very steep, wet, slippery bank in the hope I would pop out somewhere on Raumati Terrace. It was a considerable effort with a couple of heart-stopping moments, but eventually I got to Raumati Terrace (probably through someone's private property).
I'm not sure that this 'path' should be on OpenStreetMap, particularly the section from this cache to Raumati Terrace. Someone who was unprepared and just out for a bit of a stroll could end up in a bit of trouble. Anyway, TFTC - it was certainly quite a challenge!

Had a really good search - but came down from Raunati Cest - not advised! Hard to read the descriptions from the other way, and its not an easy descent ...
Cache # 1,847 - I had heard about the nature of this one, and it certainly lived up to its billing - although I somehow had in my head a narrow spot to squeeze through. Fortunately not the case, but the footing was rather interesting most of the way. Cache in good order, and happy to sign the log. Spied #2 on the way in, but left that for another day, as I am nursing along the caches in the region to keep my streak alive (419 days and counting). Nice to have the hardest one of the series done first. TNLNSL. TFTC!
No phone gps coverage so just used navigation skills to track it down. Description spot on if just follow your instinct
*That* was the adventure we were looking for! An interesting walk; rugged underfoot but easy navigation. I wonder what this was like while they were putting in the pipe?
Find was easy; we were standing on it!

Beautiful trek in. It is amazing how there are these wild places in the middle of city. Agree the punga's are fantastic. Only spoil was couldn't find the cache. Will have to come back and have another look.
Hardly a Sunday afternoon amble, but a smiley in the hand, is worth two more in the bush.

Got it, had to fly blind for this one. Lucky I got it too. The track has disappeared, had to give up on trying to find a route to kdh. Definitely recommend some decent boots and a map with the stream, trail and landmarks. Tricky, and I'm not a stranger to rough walks!
Took the long route home tonight and made the trek up here, a pleasant little used track in a nice wee spot tucked behind the back of nowhere. Quick find at GZ as I spotted a likely hiding hole. TFTC, #5580
I persuaded PT-S and the others to keep going for this one, as I wasn't sure I would be coming up this way again....yes the trappers (?) track is there, but it is faint and rough in parts and you certainly don't want to be doing this in Jandals! Hint was spot on, so much so that I was able to convince the others that it was worth looking (and finding) the cache there, despite my phone insisting the cache was still 18m away. TFTC
After hunting for 2 without success we decided to push on up the valley to #3. Quite an intrepid journey but fun too! The hint led us straight to the cache. Left a TB. TFTC
Find #1645. Spending some time in the Ngauranga / Newlands area, hiking the hills and catching up on caches. Skipped #2 - for good reason, and scrambled on to this one. An interesting spot obviously seldom visited and even less known by the residents living above. A solitary grey goose adorned the pool at the end of the track. He looked suspiciously at me and I wondered how he might have escaped the gully if he felt the need. The GPS was bouncing off the walls but I was lucky enough to have put my pack down on the first handy rock which just happened to be the right spot. SL TFTC
Went for a bit of stroll this afternoon to see what was at the end ... or as far up as this cache is placed. Actually quite enjoyed the stroll through the bush winding my way up the side of the stream. It was eyes down for most of the time to follow the trail and to ensure foot placement amongst the rocks but I took the occasional look up to enjoy the view. Walked straight up to the cache as it was in the logical place. Log signed it was back down the track. Thank you the opportunity to visit a bit of "wild" bush so close to town. TFTC
Buoyed by the successes at #1 and #2 we decided to chance our arm, and our luck and push on up the valley. An intrepid adventure in parts but with some determination we were soon at GZ.
Then a straightforward find. Quite the wilderness up here.
Cache in order; log signed, safely re-hidden.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

I seriously do not recommend starting this track at its up hill end. Its a very steep with loose earth and is really only tracker's track.
Arrived at Boxhill at 9 am , too early for the event today, so wandered around in the rain looking for interesting caches. The Tyers stream fitted the bill, and indeed the steep climb down into the stream from Raumati Terrace was VERY interesting, especially as the ground was slippery due to the rain. Not recommended! Luckily I had boots today, otherwise I would have abandoned these caches, but with boots I wandered down the stream keeping my feet dry, till I came across the path on the other side. At the cache site the rain, clouds, trees and valley all conspired against me, the GPS suggesting the cache was an unlikely 14m across the stream. With the hint I found the cache eventually.

This was the last one. Nice view on the small waterfalls. uick found during afternoon walk. Then become a pain, to find the way out from this valley. I was gong up and down back to the stream. The path sudenlly disapearred. I was following the track in my GPS, but in there was not a path. So after a while going in the valley, I decided to go uphill and found some way out. I show up on some bodies property. There were stairs down to the valley, so I just went up ap very fast went to the main road. Hope nobody see me, other wise they could call police. This was little bit adrenalin walking in the stream.
Maybe I misted the turn somewhere.

Last on today. The track got from cache to cache harder and harder and in the end felt pretty much like in the middle of the bush rather than 800 m away from the major highway. Felt interesting and weird, the reserve was definitely worth a visit. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
Wandered up and sat on a convenient rock to check I was close to the cache.
I was sitting on it!

My 900th find. Wow! What an enjoyable walk. I always love these explorer-type caches, and they're particularly rewarding when you discover a new spot. Undeterred by the terrain rating I pushed on after #2 and had great fun picking my way gingerly along the trail. All in all much less perilous than the track above Speedy's reserve... I love the juxtaposition of native and introduced elements in this environment. Thanks for bringing me here. TFTC
#3928. Interesting track, but definitely a day-time only approach for us. Quick find, but we didn't venture onwards to explore the mystical #4. TNLNSL. TFTC.
Third find on my exploration of this Reserve. Some years ago the council had plans to develop this area with new tracks, but this seems tho have fallen by the wayside. Personally I like it how it is. TFTC
....and that was a bit of a trek ! Probably shouldn't have started on to this cache at about 7:30pm - the trek was a bit up and down, and then it took a while to find the cache with a wandering GPS again. The walk out was getting quite dark ! TFTC.
A good lunchtime wander with Yeetrees in this obscure little reserve.

This one was a bit more of a challenge than 1 & 2 but got there in the end.

#5083. Soon after #2, there track gets quite narrow and is a little exposed for a time. Troodles didn't like the look of it, so I carried on alone. The track wasn't too hard to follow, and I was soon at GZ. Coords were good and the cache was soon found. TFTC.
Came for a wlk this morning to see if I could pick all the remaining new caches along this track (I had found #2 previously). As I knew the coordinates were not going to be too accurate, I started hunting a little distance before arriving and quite rapidly spotted the hide about 20 metres before GZ. A very nice walk, only slightly spoiled by occasional wafts of the smell of sewage from some of the manhole covers along the pipeline under the track. The track was no problem to follow, just the occasional tree branch etc to climb over or around. Signed log, TFTC.
FTF 1720, after walking the Kapakapanui Loop with Fozzmiester I was on the way home when the cache was published. Already being handy to the motorway allowed me to get to GZ in good time.
On the way through I managed to find the un-published number 1 in the series before carring on to this one. The cache was quickly found then I continued along the stream in hopes of finding number 4.
There was one spot which seemed possible but from memory it was much to close to number 3 so I kept going. I noticed that the pink ribbons started to go up the valley wall a little bit requiring some precarious rock climbing, thinking better of trying what seemed like impossible terrain I followed the stream to be confronted by a ~4m waterfall. The easiest way up seemed to be climbing up the rocks where the water came down but I wasn't keen to get wet so back tracked and followed the pink ribbons.
Given the increased difficulty of the terrain I had a feeling the cache wasn't here but kept going anyway.
Where the 'track' traverses just to the right of, and above the waterfall (facing the waterfall from below). Getting a stable footing wasn't easy so hand holds were key (at one point I was holding on to a tree with my feet dangling in the air). I did question if I should carry on at this point, so back tracked and looked for an easier path but didn't identify one, so back I went to the same precarious spot but was more successful this time.
Thankfully once at the top of the waterfall the going got easier but the track also gets more overgrown in places so I had to walk in the stream and bash through blackberry where the steam was impassable, which was just before the reserve and the stream came to an abrupt end colliding with residential development.
A great adventure.

2TF, and hot on the heels of simpsonnsrgr8. Rather pleased to get an opportunity to see the stream in daylight, quite an amazing little area. No time to try for #4 as I was already running late for a dinner appointment, and looking a bit closer at it now it just doesn't seem right somehow.
