I was in the vicinity today with Hurtle and took the opportunity to find this older cache. After a short wander into the bush, the cache was found in excellent condition. Thanks Team Piggy for the cache.

Stopped by with e.gregory for a repeat visit after being here 10yrs ago during another Mega...Parked at the closest point, only 25m from GZ. And an easy walk to GZ, where e.g made the find.Seems the floods last year have stripped undergrowth and previously fallen flora...

05-Jan-24
Out for a morning of boating on the Murray.Of the crew I was the only one who hadn't found this one but that's changed now.We didn't really expect it to have survived the flood so we bought a replacement cache. Now to fight back through the jungle and continue our quest.TFTC

The kayaking to the island was fun, but then there was a really exhausting hard battle with the reeds to reach GZ.

Today with COVID-19 requirements still in effect, but fitness like hiking and kayaking still being promoted, jesswrigley and I headed to Monarto Conservation Park for a long morning walk, followed by some Murray kayaking in Murray Bridge. I expected this park to be quite dry and likely scrubland, and sure enough, it was an area to hike in that should be done in cooler weather due to limited shadey areas. There were many small pockets around Murray Bridge to explore, and the first waypoint of Wanderer's Heart(of darkness) multi-cache appeared to be a good target (saving the final part of that walk for another day). A few kangaroos were seen here, before heading to Murray Bridge for a bakery lunch. The kayak session on Easter Monday was enjoyable, with a few people relaxing around the boat ramp, but otherwise not many people on the water. With that adventure completed, we headed home quite tired.

So where to begin with this adventure?! Like others have mentioned, I had looked at this cache half the time as I travelled along the freeway nearby, and wondered when I would get the chance to get this. A remote adventure during these turbulent times felt like today was as good as any, and I managed to convince jesswrigley that it was only a short paddle (not mentioning the jungle part). And so we prepared our inflatable kayak, and launched from Long Island Reserve at S 35° 07.735' E 139° 17.674'.

The kayaking itself wasn't too bad, and the waters were calm enough to enjoy our little padde. In terms of the landing, I had read from previous logs of a spot about 100-120 m north, and a stump of some sort. We tried one little bay, but ended up getting severely tangled in the reeds around our rudders, that we couldn't make shore, and struggled to get out. That was about 80 m from the cache, so we backtracked, and found somewhere to tie the boat in that 120 m range. For future travellers and to assist, our landing was approximately S 35° 07.810' E 139° 17.976'. We had to fight our way through tree branches over the water still, until we were firmly on land.

I actually thought with the previous group finding this cache five months beforehand, that we would see the "D9 bulldozer" tracks still, and hence not be too hard of an expedition. However a lot can happen in five months, and for the most part on the island, the plants, shrubs and trees had well and truly swallowed the newly vacant land that had opened up before. The hard reeds initially were a real battle, but after that, fighting through the bushes wasn't too bad. Luckily there was no blackberry bushes, bastard bushes, or other prickles to contend with, and so in one wicked way, the bush bashing was actually nicer than previous geocaching adventures. jesswrigley was happy following my track, and she managed to find her own headspace thinking we were in the Amazon jungle, after our overseas South America trip had been cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 impacts. Fighting and more fighting our way through the bushes, and my feet/ankles were bleeding by the end.

Eventually, we made it to GZ, and yeah, the cache searching was relatively quick. It was certainly a cool little area to sit and rest. The cache container and logbook were in good shape, especially given its age. Thanks Team Piggy for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance. It was also nice to have found this oldie 03/2002 hidden cache. The Terrain rating should definitely be 5 lol - easier just kayaking caches have had a higher terrain rating despite the jungle behind us!

Found with Sir Spectre, Brisal5 and Mogni. After we paddled across the river and parked our canoes on the island we had approximately one hundred metres of reeds and vines bashing to get to the cache where Sir Spectre made the find. Thanks for the cache that give us a fun adventure and a few scratches.

This cache has been on the to do list for about 2 years. After the floods of 2016 i was wondering if this cache was still there. Finally came the time to make the paddle. I invited a large group of cachers. It turns out that most people would not get there feet wet and prefer to attend a pub lunch, really not any spirit of adventure. Less than 1/3 of people invited turned up at the meeting spot and off for a paddle we went. I was told that there is no beaches on the island and the only landing spot was 120 meters from gz on the bunyip side of the island. I would find a stump there and climb on to that and bush bash my way to gz, pliers would be a good idea. the water level must have been higher when we came since we floated 1.5 meters passed the stump and " parked there. There the easy bit ended. The reeds are 8 to 9 foot high and the under growth was mid thigh in height for about 110 of the 120 meters meters to gz. I gave allister the pliers ( not used, to thick ). Allister broke a path through the flora, there was blood. I followed widening the path and still behind me you could here crunch, crunch, crunch. the flora was that thick but at least any wildlife could here us from 30 - 50 meters away. After a slow trek we made it to gz. This island is a reserve, it's even got signs saying so, who knew ? The cache was found with in 1 minute of getting there, with good co ords and it's in a clearing that i assuming was once a picnic spot. The log goes back to 2010 when cp replaced the cache due to it being broken, it's still in good condition, just the black paint has worn off. 10 litre screw top container. look for the "odd one out " not in the very dense under growth. The return paddle was in to the wind which has picked up. Stay still and you where getting blown backwards. fav point for the adventure.

Out and about with sir_spectre, Allister and brisal5. A big day of fun and caching. We were targetting a few kayak caches but managed to grab a few others while in the area. I have had this on my to do list for a long time and at last it has a smilie.

Groundspeak wanted to start a streak at the end of August to get a souvenir. So I did. Surprised And despite having bugger all caches within 20 kms of home I am still on that streak. Razz I am also trying to fill in each calendar day of the year with mystery caches and multi caches.[B)]
Today I just needed a cache to continue the streak. Cool

A long list a cachers was called to make a group assault on the jungle and the other kayak cache downstream. Cool
But as it turned out it was just me and Sal, Sir Spectre, Mogni and allister w that turned up to go for a paddle today. Surprised
The paddle to the island was the easy part - river flowing nicely and a gentle breeze at our backs. [^] We had heard there wasn't a good spot to land nearby but one could be found about 120 metres away. Wink At 120 metres away an opening to shallow water appeared and we took it.

Kayaks waypoint marked the fun began. luckily we had a D9 Bulldozer with us (allister w) who laid down on the reeds and vines and we just walked across him. Just kidding. He did lay down on some of the thicker bits and with the conga line following in his wake a path of sorts to GZ was trampled. After 20 minutes we came to a spot that was a little clearer by comparison and we seat out in search of the cache. Razz With no finds for almost three years we wondered if we would be able to find it in the jungle. The island is listed at as a recreation park. Surprised There was even an old fire pit near GZ but the only recreation down here now would be Geocaching. Fittingly it was Sir Spectre who had organized the day who made the find. Smile Cache is still in good condition considering the time between finds. Surprised The trail in that took almost 20 minutes to go 120 metres took about 5 minutes to go back along.

Once back in the kayaks and paddling upstream the wind was now a strong headwind. Stop paddling and you went backwards! Surprised If you are watching this cache - now would be the time before the trail grows over! FP for the adventure.

**Thanks Team Piggy for this cache. ** Big Grin

Nomads travelling in their caravan around Australia. We have been on the road since July 2011 and discovered caching in August 2013. We travel with a bunch of travel bugs belonging to our sons and grand children. Where ever possible, we will maintain your cache as we travel.

After our house sit in Willunga, we are on the road again, filling in time before we go to Kangaroo Island on 1 Nov. We left Strathalbyn, enroute to Murray Bridge. Set up camp at the show grounds - where the MurrayBridge Event was held a few year ago.... Best place to start.

I can almost reach it, but I didn't have a boat! Buggar! Will try again tomorrow or the next dau\y

This cache has been on the radar for ages, ever since I started caching and every time I swept through Murray Bridge on a caching foray. However it was always just out of reach, an unobtainable beacon in the distance. So it was to be that I set this cache aside for an auspicious occasion having met the criteria of being one of the very earliest of caches, a challenge to reach, and not having been found for over a year. Today was the day that we paddled across to the impenetrable jungle to claim my 10,000th cache find! Thanks for the adventure Team Piggy!

08.08.15 so this cache has been annoying me for awhile, done most of the others in the area, but still had one green marker on my screen, so gathered the mates, Niftybridge and shearer89, got the cheer squad ready and descended down to the launching area, shearer89 was off paddling away before we decided to drive a bit further down stream, so with cheer squad in tow we launched, me in my tiedyed shirt so as to be seen from shore, found a suitable landing site where we thought was close, canoes tied, off we head into the abyss, well I wasn't ready for the follage, glad I had shoes with my mankini, unfortunately we landed 130 metres from GZ, which meant we had to stomp our way through which sometimes meant drop and roll, Niftybridge decided to backtrack and find another landing site further upstream, but shearer89 was adamant at a speed of 1 Mtrs a couple of minute we should keep going, eventually we reunited with Niftybridge approx 30 Mtrs from GZ and before we knew it the cache was in our hands, log signed, oblitory photos and it was time to head back to the canoes and cheer squad, at least we made better time on the way back, although we did loose the track once, so we can say thanks for the cache

Made the trip on the jetskis today across to the island. Hacked our way through the jungle to the cache. Great fun.

22-Jan-15
We have been looking at this cache since the 2014 Mega event but did not get the opportunity to attempt it. We did today however get another chance and decided to do a group team effort, ourselves, unfindit! And RTH 300 (kindly supplied the transport by means of jet ski) made the trip across the river from long island reserve to the landing area described in prior logs, we made our way through the relatively thick vegetation with the assistance of a machete toward the final GZ the prize was quickly located and with the log signed made our way back out thanks for a great cache

22-Jan-15
With xphenoms and rth100, we arrived on jet skis, slashed a path through the undergrowth, and found it.
Thanks Team Piggy

The retrieval of this cache proved to be very entertaining - probably more so for the team members left ashore than the lucky officers selected for the Away Team!

I was lucky enough to be invited by Sylken and FelixII who provided the essential equment required to reach this cache.

After the Away Team (boys) were launched, the safety officers and supervisors (ladies) onshore proceeded to enjoy the lovely spring morning from the comfort of camp chairs, snacking on sweets and mostly cheering (and occasionally teasing) the Away Team as they "sailed" up and down the island in an attempt to find a landing site amongst all the trees, twigs and reeds that would be safe and accessible enough for precariously inflatable flotation devices.

After several reconnasaince "sail by's" (achieved at a speed easily overtaken by paddling ducks) the intrepid explorers finally made "Terra Firmish", at which point I lost a bet that Mr Sylken would quote from Apollo 13 upon landing, instead Mr Sylken and Mr Felix proceeded to quote from many other movies instead! If the passing houseboat had been monitoring the radio channels, they would have heard many a cringe worthy pun/quote. Smile

After safely grabbing the cache the Away Team made very good progress home, and seemed to have survived both the jungle and the perils of the glassy-calm river water none the worse for wear. Prior to disembarking their vessels, the returning heroes were asked to pose for a photo shoot, at which time a very poorly timed (read "well timed" from the point of any spectators) ski boat went past, resulting in the thorough washing and rinsing of the jungle explorers. Smile.

TFTC Team Piggy, we had a fabulous time bagging this cache.

Staying at Murray Bridge and managing to catch up on a few caches we missed during the Mega. Only one cache tackled today and pleased to be in the company of Sylken and karopi. Big Grin

We arrived to find the river very peaceful. Phew. [^] Boats inflated, safety oars attached, batteries charged, motor attached. Now to embark Razz

Finally under way and all was looking wonderful. Cool Hmmm but inflatable craft are tricky to land on islands and riverbanks. Those 'sticky' things are VERY dangerous. Twisted

Up and down the shore the craft went looking for a possible landing zone. After the 3rd or was it the 4th attempt landing was made on 'terra firmish' (as reported by 2way) then the trek through the jungle to GZ. Bingo was the cry! Soon followed by all manner of TV/movie quotes for us on shore to endure. TwistedOur landing point ended up as s35 07.834 e139 18.016

Even paddled (oh i mean motored) across with a pathtag but did we leave it in the cache .....nope seems to be safely back on shore. Surprised [xx(]

A house boat made its way along the river past the beached craft and all was okay. The operators of the craft returned to 'terra firma' and were asked to stay aboard and wait for a photo just as a speed boat and skiers shot past. TwistedTwisted

Sure enough the wash caught up with the intrepid boaters and whilst they had been up and down and across. In/out/in the rubber duckies and stayed dry the whole way Once on shore but not allowed out of the craft they got DRENCHED!!! [B)] [:o)]

OMG what a fabulous cache but boy that landing in the jungle is quite treacherous.

Loved completing this with our friends and hope to upload some photos. Thanks to Sylken and karopi for joining us today.

Today we were joined by geodaughter KAROPI and invited to partake in a jungle attack led heroically by Mr FelixII. Our intrepid explorers leapt into their assault craft (well..'flopped' into their tiny inflatablesBig Grin) and launched their attack on Long Island (read here 'drifted slowly across the glassy millpond')
Mr Sylken was being towed by Mr Felix and his massive electric outboard motor which is quite similar and almost as powerful as kitchen egg beatersRazz. Mr Sylken's craft seemed to be having a problem following Mr FelixII's vessel in a straight line ( and I swear not a drop of alcohol had been consumed) but after much puttering, drifting, reversing and searching for a semi safe landing spot eventually 'Terra Firmish' was achieved.

Mrs FelixII was manning on-shore communications and she heard that in their search for the cache they met Dr Livingstone, a few Ewoks, Indiana Jones and I think King Kong was mentioned there tooSurprised

Our exhausted but jubilant sailors puttered silently back to shore and were just posing for photos which could have graced the cover of National Geographic when a speed boat sped past creating waves big enough to sink the Titanic.....and also big enough to wash, rinse and refresh our sailors Twisted

Many thanks Team Piggy for a very memorable cache enjoyed by the three teams and special thanks to FelixII for their friendship, expertise and equipment. We had a ball. This cache is now on our list of 'awaiting a favourite point'. We recently spent six weeks caching and hiking in the Grampians in Victoria and used up all our stocks but an FP will be added as soon as it is earnt. [^]Big Grin

Out with a Kayak and some friendly other kayakers to row, row away from the shore, quick find then back to the other side for a friendly stop over to allow another cross I the kayak at least we saved them a swim. Great morning out but heading home now TFTC

Knowing this cache was on an island and that we had kayaks to use, getting out to find it was high on the Oz Mega caches to be found list...in fact, it was one of only two that I was determined to find before heading home and The Chosen One had already been found!
So a group of us came out here, planning to take several trips with the two kayaks across the water to allow some people who didn't have kayaks to get out and make the find.
Instead, the lovely Kelly Gang remained at our landing spot after their journey over and back so that some of the group could use their kayaks too. Huge thanks to them for their patience as Mr Kelly Gang had suddenly been called to work that night and they had a long drive ahead of them. [:X] [^]
Between the first shift of Moneydork and the Kelly Gang and the second shift of Mrs Muff1, Dennisc52, RideTheGeoWalrus and myself, we all made it over and back and found ourselves a cache! Cool
Didn't even see any snakes Wink
Had to laugh when the log book was opened and there was two PTs in the bag.....with three geocachers all wanting one of Winterdragon's PTs Wink Luckily, Winterdragon had kindly swapped with me a few days ago and so I had two of his PTs and could appease the third person in the group with my spare...otherwise I felt sure there would have been a mutiny and some geocacher would have been left on the island for eternity, unless they went for a big swim!
I think Mrs Muff1 deserved the biggest pat on the back as she had not paddled a kayak before and so was almost going to back out of the paddle over...I am so glad that she didn't and by the end, I think she was also glad to be able to say that she had made it to and from this cache herself! Cool
All in all, this was a blast! [^] Cool

Firstly a huge thankyou to locus cache who organised a group to go and find the place Piggy went to visit.
The kayak's arrived and off went the first group, all returned safely.
Next it was our group, as I had never been in control of a kayak in my life I so wanted to chicken out but Kaye was having no bar of that - another big thanks for looking after me.
We must also thank all the cachers at the mega who have done this cache making a very clear trail to the cache therefor giving us a far better view of any possible reptiles that may have wanted to cross our paths, none did thankfully.
T photo's and a pathtag. SL TFTC

The only cache of the day, I accompanied Locus Cache, Muff1 and RideTheGeoWalrus to the setting off point, where we were joined by the Kelly gang, and together we set off in relays to Piggy's Island. The cache was easy to find, despite the canopy cover, and all signed the log, and made our way back without incident. A big thank you to Locus Cache and her muggle partner , and the Kelly Gang, for sharing their water transports. It was fun! Even Muff1 loved it, despite having to be coerced into the Kayak. TFTC.

Today's caching run was split into two: the very early morning with locus cache and MoorooducRobbos followed by a second solo run in the daylight hours with the aim of cleaning up the few Oz Mega series caches I had not found previously to complete the geoart.

Easily my favourite of the day! Locus cache had come prepared to Oz Mega with two kayaks, meaning locus, Dennisc52, muff1 and I were going to have to relay it over to the cache. However we arrived to find The Kelly Gang already in the process of attempting this one and they very generously allowed us to borrow their two kayaks meaning all four could make the trek at once. Muff1 was hesitant, but after a little encouragement she braved the waters and we were on our way. Little room on the island meant double stacking the kayaks and then the trail from previous visitors over the Oz Mega weekend lead us to the cache though what must have been serious snake country. I know I was certainly stomping my feet hard.

A favourite from me and again, very special thank you to The Kelly Gang for waiting for us to complete this cache.

This find was number 3 of 19 for the day. TFTC Team Piggy!

Locus cacher lent me her kayak for this one and I paddled across and back with the Kelly Gang.
Wow - what an awesome location. A definite favourite.

Found with Ahomburg, SedgwickDave, Spladem and either Ian/Phil or C&H, AliJ, º, Ali J and Jacimarble whilst in the area for the Mega, Thanks for the cache and an awesome weekend roadtrip away..

The Mega was upon us and the roadtrip was on in full swing..

We had alot of fun whilst in the area for the Mega,

Thanks Team Piggy for this great cache and an awesome weekend roadtrip away..

The weekend was a blur and too long ago to remeber, however these big multi type find days stick out and this one did as it was the second time around the clock..

Otherwise, Sorry all for the generic well over due logging of these caches..

Cool cache..
While completing the nearby night cache, we made a slight diversion to pick up this cache.

This was a team effort of sorts to claim this one and its rare D/T combo. In fading light the cache was found within 25 minutes and with cache log stamped it was time to return. A great location for a cache. An oldie cache too. [^]Razz

I have always wanted to do this cache especially since I grew up in the area and would often look across to GZ from the other bank. The OzMega was my chance to finally realise my desire. Thanks to Burtons for providing the floating device to get us there, and to Wibbles for captaining the said floating device and leading me thro the dense jungle.

Thanks piggy.

Piggy may have visited the jungle but we managed to swim the river, kayak and all Red Face
Three of us headed off in the Burton's kindly lent kayak (thanks guys) the trip across was a little hairy with the Shonky skipper at the helm, maxdeptfiler in the middle and me up front we were dodging what felt like tidal waves as the skiers past us at great speed Surprised. Once on the island all was going quite well with a soft landing and strait forward passage to GZ thanks to previous adventurers Big Grin

Once the log was signed and the cache safely back in its hidey hole, we headed back to our craft for the return journey. This is where the fun began we, all three got on the kayak and as we tried to launch slowly back into the river, that's exactly what happened. we ended up in the river! as we slowly launched Shonky said to me "we have a problem" I turned around to see him sitting in the kayak up to his waist in water with the back half of the vessel totally submerged Red Face

This called for a plan B, we all had to swim out of the little hidden cove we were in to hail down a search and rescue skier boat Big Grin who kindly towed us back to shore. once safely on terra firma we had to empty the then fully ballasted kayak. I think it had taken on that much water that their was nearly more in the kayak than left in the river Razz

All in all a great adventure making the trip all that much more worth the while.
Thanks to my team mates, Shonky and maxdeptfiler for the fun, to the Burtons for lending us their kayak and to Piggy for giving us the adventure opportunity.

A definite favorite.

Streak: days

On day three after lunch of our mega, we split up from the group and headed out with SedgwickDave and Spladem to head northish for some of the Wandering Heroes caches as well as some others nearby. For this trip, we decided to concentrate mainly on caches with a high amount of Favourite points.

Last cache for the day and it was a doozy!! It may have been a little easier if we had a watercraft of some sort. Anyway, despite the late hour, a swim was imminent. Quite a big trail existed on the island most of the way to GZ.

299! Come on!! Anyway back to the adventure. Young Maxdebtfiler set out to the island with Shonkylogic and Southern cross caching in a two man kayak. The way there was alright with only a little bit of water coming in. Parking was the problem..... We had to hold onto about 10 different logs at the same time and turn ourselves around. After we had parked successfully and got out of the kayak we set off on our walk. We battled the long grass and the big trees, we finally made it to the final cache location and found with ease. Then the tragedy started. We set off on the walk back, we managed to find the kayak again after taking a few wrong turns. Then we had to get in the kayak. Done with ease but then......... The kayak started sinking quickly so ABANDON KAYAK so we all did. We were trying to work out what was wrong with the kayak but couldn't. So we shouted for help until a jet ski found us. Shonky and southern cross caching got towed back while I got a free ride in the jet ski. We finally made it back to shore safely but just a little wet (soaked).
TFTC and thanks for an awesome adventure Team Piggy. A fav from us!

This was an adventure on the murray. The boys set out on their crafts as the girls went in search for a safer landing spot. thanks to Burton's, Scargoes, Wazza9, Hurtle and L&B . TFTC

This one has been on our map tempting us for so long, but we never had the chance to come down here with our kayak.
Given we were camping here for the mega for four days it seemed like this weekend might be a good time to attempt it, but with the car filled to the brim with camping gear and the camper trailer on the back, we wondered whether adding the kayak might make us conk out on the way up the freeway here. So we resigned ourselves to a "another time, maybe".
Then the Burtons made us an offer we couldn't refuse - a chance to use their kayak. Mr Wibble made the trip over, Mrs Wibble stayed back at the mega site and learned some new GSAK tips during a seminar instead. Mr Wibble stayed mostly dry. Which cannot be said for others in the party!
Lovely to see such an old cache still here and in a great spot too.

19-Apr-14
This was one of those caches that I assumed that I'd never get to, as it was unlikely that I'd be in the location at the same time as a kayak. So when The Burtons offered to supply the kayak for a group of us to make the trek, I jumped at the chance! Shonkylogic & Shane made the first crossing, and filled us with confidence by sinking the unsinkable kayak. Fortunately Mr Wibble and I fared better, and I only suffered wet trousers & shoes. Also glad to follow after yesterday's intrepid explorers, who'd stomped out a nice clear geotrail through the reeds, and scared off the tiger snakes. Made for a very enjoyable trip all round.

Thanks Team Piggy for the cache, and The Burtons for making the retrieval possible!

Thought we'd missed this adventure and just came down to watch the fun from the bank but they were still getting ready. Then P gets an invite to join Huurtle on his little inflatable dinghy Smile, ok this could be interesting... So the party was complete, along with Burton's Jim and famous Bruce on the double sit-on and returning wazza9 on his single kayak.
The kayaks shot ahead of us looking for that ideal landing spot, Huurtle made steady progress down the middle of the river and this dinghy was amazingly stable even with ski boats passing us. We made the landing spot and after avoiding some snags, the other kayaks were dragged into the reeds to make a great landing jetty. Battling the reeds was a little easier by following a new-ish geotrail, with comparisons to Huurtles Reedy Roonka cache being made. After short walk, this old cache was found and logs made. Big Grin A speedy exit as we were losing light fast, shorten the trip by going straight across to the mini reserve opposite the landing spot with cars nearby. P amazed he did the trip with just wet feet, a credit to the crew and fleet. Big thanks to our on-bank cheer squad and support team.

This one has been on my map for a long time and today Jim Burton lent us his somewhat shonky kayak for the trek into the Jungle. Shane from Southern Cross Caching in the front and we also took young maxdeptfiler in the middle. All was well enough on the way across, but for some reason when we were coming back I was sitting on the back of the (by now) rather unsturdy kayak, and up to my chest in water.
Apparently there were some holes in the kayak that I hadn't noticed that had let a lot of water in. So much so that it wouldn't float with anybodies weight on it.

Swimming out into the river with the half sunk kayak there was a speedboat nearby, and we managed to convince them to tow us back across the river. Young maxdeptfiler in the speedboat, me holding onto a tow rope, and holding on the kayak with my other arm and southern cross caching being dragged along at the rear. At least we found the cache.

Jim wasn't the least perturbed about his kayak, but he'd never seen so much water in it. The river rose three cm as we emptied it out. Love the adventure, love the jungle and the best part was getting there... and back. Thanks Piggy.

GDA is breaking his duck with a really adventurous and fun cache. A lovely late arvo paddle with Paul from 'Scargoes, Huurtle, Bruce from L&B and Wazza9. 2 kayaks and a couple of blokes in a rubber boat making an epic journey on a wild river in the depths of deepest darkest Murray Bridge during the Ozmega festival The landing involved a jury rigged kayak pontoon bridge to gain access to the reed and willow infested landmass. Following a game trail weaving through towering forest with Wazza breaking trail we eventually came to an abandoned spit fireplace. An earnest search saw a successful conclusion to the safari. Returning through the trakless wildness we reembarked the boats and headed back to the safety of the support crew. Beaching the boats saw the only loss of the expedition when Huurtle was tragicaly lost overboard with the death of a plastic paddle..
Thanks for encouraging a log from the grumpiest drag along in caching. TNLN but tracks.Smile:-)

It seems everyone forgot about me today, reading the logs I didn't even rate a mention but I was here! I had been waiting a long time to get this one and thankfully having a boat with us today allowed a few extras. Glad I did my own water thing as my bestie's boating adventure looked a little too dangerous for me. SL A great old cache finally crossed off my list! Thanks very much from PG

TFTC,
We were on Gate/Trackable table duty this morning for the Oz Mega 2014 Event and indicated to other cachers that they might like to borrow our kayak and give this a go. Some hours later they returned with reports of finding the cache.
After lunch nana nel and I decided to have a go at finding it. What a failure that turned out to be. We went to where we thought would be best spot to start our adventure and overloaded the 1 person kayak. Setting out we found ourselves fighting for stability with ski boats passing us on a regular basis. We stoped twice before crossing to a point we believed would allow us to get to solid ground and spent the next 1/2 hour plus fighting our way without success through the Willow branches and trunks. When we made our way back out I made the decission to DNF this attempt.
Arriving back at Oz Mega 2014 camp site, I learnt that a group were planning an attempt to find this cache and while I felt past it, couldn't let a chance go by to have another go.
All the previous details were followed and as we made our way allong the Island bank, I told others where we had failed earlier in the afternoon. We went about 5M past where we gave up earlier and located the perfect place to go ashore as per the coordinates provided by the November finder. Why didn't I punch the information into the GPS. We were 54M from GZ and thanks to the efforts of J+J.Au this morning had a track to follow to almost GZ. At about 5:30PM the cache was in hand and a great adventure came to an end.
The original Log Book was beyond trying to read but the cache was still in reasonable condition.
A favorite from me.
Visited a group of trackables to share the adventure.

Well this was an adventure, I didn't complain, but secretly I was a little scared, with the kayak filling up to brim with water, a gps, phone and keys in plastic bags tucked into my jacket, with 2 people in a 1 person craft. It was a reliefwhen Wazza9 turned to go back to the other side after battling throught the willow trees all slimey waiting for a snake or 2 to appear. Then went it was decided to go back for another attempt. Found with a group from South Australia. Thank you an adventure that I could do without.

18-Apr-14
I certainly won't forget this cache in a hurry. I joined up with J+J.au on a borrowed kayak were the fun began. Not being familiar with the water craft I failed to insert the bungs which meant that we paddled across in something more like a raft and the current was sending us around in circles. Eventually we were successful and the trip back went a bit smoother. Great challenge and we felt like conquers. Fav added. SLTN..TFTC

This is one Brucie has wanted to do for so long and finally he got the chance when some other geocachers attending the mega wanted to go (and they had a kyak). So the enthusiastic little group headed off with stories of snakes, currents and inpenetrable bush ringing in their ears. They managed the adventure and found the cache with no major issues. Nice one Team Piggy and great to be doing this cache of yours. Kind regards - hope you are well.

See GDA's log to follow.
It says it all. Smile

18-Apr-14
Yay .. We got it. We borrowed a kayak for Wazza. Thanks so much. What a cache. We arrived at a launching area and the adventure began. Baja15 forgot to put the bungs in to water craft and we paddled in half submerge in water and got customised to the temperature incase were to have a miss fortune. With the swirls in the waster we were paddling in circles, but eventually got across
Now the reeds, Twice our hight , as for the snakes . I think they heard us coming from access the river. Eventually at GZ and cache was found safe and dry, unlike us, were totally covered in sludge.
Paddeling back was a relief, we ended stripping off to have a swim and clearness ourselves.
Now let's celebrate. YEHAA TFT Adventure.

Scanning the map when we arrived in town, we noticed this cache with its inviting DT of 1/4.5 classification – just what we needed for our Project 81 matrix!

Getting onto the water at S35 07.734 E139 17.673 was the easy part, charting a course through the jet skis, speed boats, skiers and biscuit riders was quite hairy.

Once through the traffic we paddled downstream, parallel to the island, searching for a potential landing spot through the curtain of willows, reeds, sunken logs and snags. After searching 50 - 60m either side of the GZ we decided on the most likely (and only) suitable landing point at S35 07.836 E139 18.013.

After slowly navigating the kayaks into the edge of a large river red gum, going ashore from a kayak in deep water with a bow mooring line is tricky, especially when you are climbing on to the wet, slippery and partially rotten tree trunk of a red gum. Kayaks secured, we then squeezed through a small hole formed between the huge tree trunk and two large branches and then edged around the tree trunk to find ourselves standing on fallen logs and tree roots in a thicket of tough head high reeds.

Balancing on fallen rotting branches and tree roots, gingerly we gradually made our way onto firmer ground and a small clearing at S35 07.826 E139 18.021. Just 57m to go!
Crawling through a vine tunnel, battling through more reeds, savage creeper vines and with stinging nettles biting at our ankles and calves, we forged ahead moving gradually from one large tree to the next. Oh for Pprass and his machete! We had been warned of the presence of Tiger snakes Surprised but none appeared today - perhaps we were making too much noise!

Finally the GPS'r zeroed in as we climbed over a low branch and squeezed between saplings . . . . . . Oh Yes there's the cache Big Grin – hidden in plain sight at the base of an Ash tree and more than a year since the contents have been exposed to daylight! [8)]

That's all very well, but really the adventure was only half over as we had to do everything in reverse to get back to the mainland, but that all seemed just so much easier than getting there.

We certainly enjoyed this adventure and think this cache fits into the realm of a TR of 5.5+, but we would hate to see it changed as we really do need the DT of 1/4.5.

TNLN . . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt and adventure Team Piggy.

Found as part of the Demolition Crew record run to South Australia with fellow TDC members Quasar3671, Trailrunning, Rebel Acts and a guest on the trip, Poynts95.

The trip was a fair while in the making, and many aspects had to align to make it happen, including all of us getting the time to go. However, the "stars aligned" so to speak for us, and the trip was on. A date was set and much planning engaged, and when I say much, I mean a very large amount. We had an old saying where I used to work, and that was "Failing to be prepared, is being prepared to fail", so, we prepared, and prepared and prepared.

With a challenge set, being, could The Demolition Crew find over 500 caches in 24 hours, we headed forth to South Australia, the magical land of power trails, and over the duration of the trip, found in excess of 1250 caches, and indeed, easily beat the goal on our record day. Importantly too, we had a great time together.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday was another ripper day, which saw us up early, very early with the daylight savings adjustment and S.A. time adjustment. We cached all day, finding caches around Murray Bridge and surrounds not part of any other days activities, and we also completed the Fruit Loop run in around 2 hours, a nice power trail shake down. The day saw over 100 finds, and a nice meal and cold drinks at the end.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Due to the extremely high number of finds for the trip, I am opting for a generic log, which I never normally do, but as the others have stated, it in no way detracts from the high quality of hides we found on the trip. My sincere thanks to all cache owners who placed and maintain their caches, and made this trip possible for our group. You have all been part of the best caching road trip we have yet made. TFTC and the memories.

When the Wandering Series was first published it had been on the agenda of The Demolition Crew, however we were not able to arrange a time when all of us could go over. Fortuitously as time went by, more trails were published. Upon looking more closely at South Australia recently, there were many more power trails than we realised, and a plan was hatched to go over and grab as many caches as we could. We were all finally able to arrange a mutual time during the Easter school holidays, so the planning stages began.

Given the limited amount of time available to us, and so many caches to grab, we realised that a huge effort was going to be needed to grab them all. Rebel Acts being known for his record breaking 24 hour runs suggested that we try a 24 hour run of our own. Now there was a thought, a challenge in fact we readily accepted. A bit more planning (a lot more actually) and a route was chosen and run sheets drawn up.

With all the puzzles solved, and most of the multi's these caches were reduced to traditionals for the run day. With cars packed, stamps made, and spirits high we made our way to South Australia to find some plastic.

The change in daylight savings time, and the time difference between Victoria and South Australia, saw us out of bed at 5:30, "time to cache" says Rebel, so we cache until 7:30pm before stopping for another hot meal and cold drink. Today the caching took us around Murray Bridge picking up caches not allocated to other days, as well as a run north to the Fruit Loop series which was completed in just over 2 hours. A great day to practice a power trail and all went well.

While I am using a generic log, it does not detract my appreciation of all the CO's who have put the time into placing and maintaining these caches. To each and every one of you, I thank you for being part of what has been the best cache road trip yet. Thank you!

Go TDC.

The cache was found as part of A massive cache run to South Australia with TDC Members Trailrunning, Quasar3671 and Blacklegend and a ring in Ponty95. It had taken us time to get this all together, finally a date was set and planning was started, I learnt one thing from my late mate dak's Emu Mob AKA Dave Kruger "Proper Planning prevents piss Poor Performance" he always said. Trailrunning was our master planner on this trip. I did this as part of a team but I also did it as a tribute to dak. having set the Australian Record twice before the question was, does the Rebel still have what it takes, I think the answer for that was yes. The challenge had been set down on FB "could the TDC find over 500 in a day, well we took up the challenge and headed to the power trail capital of Australia.

Woo hoo, few days of planning for this one, rubber boat and 2 flimsy paddles, docked wrong end if island 1st up, don't try this. Aborted walk got back in boat, tough terrain but doable. Thanks for the adventure, took key ring and a fro yo, put in compact mirror and earrings . Here with hairnet, great team effort

Found at around 1530hrs on 1st September 2012 with Snooki (my brother)

We first noticed this one while out on Snooki's boat about a year ago. Got to the non-power boat side of the island and Snooki and our cousin John started rowing. Got about 50metres in (still over a km to the cache) and one of the oars snapped. We called it a day.

Today, with such gorgeous weather, Snooki and I headed down to Murray Bridge to go out on his boat. Remembered about this one when we set off from the boat ramp and went down the non power boat side.

Found a spot that looked pretty good and tried to pull ourselves through to land. Got about 5 metres away and couldn't get any further so we had to back out and go a different way in. We went about 10m further up and took a different approach. This one turned out to be successful, but we didn't get through without being whipped by branches, scratched and without the boat taking on a good stash of sticks and branches. Finally got to shore and used the oars to clear a path through the jungle (no, really!).

Luckily the cache was hidden in plain sight. The old log was damp and mouldy and the new log's spiral binding was rusted- plenty of space in the log though Wink TNLN

This cache was a great fun challenge and it earned every one of those terrain stars (and a favourite point from me). Definitely recommend this one Very Happy

Nine km standup board paddle in an attempt to get this one. Circumnavigated the whole island and could not find suitable access from any point.

The difficulty rating is far higher than what is listed with this one. Not even sure if it is high and dry or not.

Finally after a long time closest to home CP Wanderer came to the rescue after winning a cruise to visit this jungle, after finding a safe place to tie the boat, negotiate a bee's nest next to the gang plank and wrestle through the reeds we made it to the cache, it was great to actually step on the island with fellow cachers for the hunt and to see an island in its natural state, thanks to CP Wanderer and all the cachers who travelled with us today T TB TFTC

Cruised up to this location with Mooshell_22, Sydneykiwi (and his family), and Bronsen. After some fun getting ashore it was an easier than expected stroll through the jungle to the cache. The bottom few centimetres of the cache container were found with a very wet logbook and a swap.
A new 4 litre screw top plastic container has been placed at the co-ordinates with a new log book, writing gear, and a range of swaps. The new container is the colour of the browning willow leaves all over the GZ. Mooshell will add a pic to the gallery shortly showing today's caching team and the old and new container.

Found with Bronsen, Mooshell_22, and Sydneykiwi after a days cruising in my geo cruiser. As per note below replaced cache container, log book, writing gear and swaps. Elated to find this one even though the poor old container couldnt have been more destroyed.

Had to pick up my boat from its service in Murray Bridge anyway (phew not a big billBig Grin) so took muggle "middles" out to the jungle Razz cache container is cracked but log book two is in perfect condition. wore waders and piggy-backed (excuse the pun) middles to the cache as she was in thongs. BTW was the nearby wrecked "facility" once a basic self watering drug crop??? certainly looks that way IMO [B)]Twisted Afterwards went fishing and got busted off round a willow by a huge carp (I imagine) Sad and got eaten by about one million flys! Sad saw a snake swimming through the willows from the safety of the boat! TFTC. TNLNSL. will add photos on monday! cache 501!!!

My last cache for the day and my last Piggy series cache.
I have been in the middle, seen the panorama, stuck gold, played with cabs and brushed up on my trivia. I have finally visited the jungle but not before getting a bit of mud on me from those branches hanging in the water.
An easy wander along the island and cache was soon in hand.

My second jet ski geo cache.
Easy to get to the island. But a pain to find a close parking spot. With such a think jungle to climb thru 50meters is too far. Especially in bare feet. Ouch......

Container is very brittle now and cracked a little when I tried to close the lid.

Took: elephant finger puppet
Left: aussie Kangaroo

cheers

Phew - Dr Jones would have been proud, just like battling through the jungles of South America in search of lost treasure, so too did Team TDB battle the prickles and spiderwebs to find a very wet and miserable cache.

Dried it out as best as we could.

Last cache for my day on the Murray and one of the best.
Quick paddle over followed by a walk through the jungle and there it was plain as day! Cousin It has lost a lot of his hair recently but cache is still well hidden.
Container is very brittle but still sound.
All in all an enjoyable and very fun cache (except for the stinging nettle & mozzies!) This place must be murder in summer!

Second of our water craft quinella this afternoon.

Jungle almost exactly described the incredible field on grown on the island. You never quite understand some cache names until you are there.

We came at the island from the powerboat side, which is not the easiest approach. Nearest landing spot was 100m from the cache.

At the cache location there is plenty of evidence of human inhabitation of some kind.

We looked in the obvious spots, as best we could.

Finially I had quitter's luck. One last prowl around GZ and tada. There it was. Easy as winking.

The cache container was dry and a little fragile. PE seems to handle just so much outdoor exposure.

Again no log book in the cache. We came armed with a suitable note pad.

Interestingly there was a page from the Advertiser just prior to the 2004 Grand Final, so we certainly have had another visiter.

4 and half stars. Not enough.

Tried to get this one but found myself 185m away from the cache with a wide obsticle in the way. Not having the correct clothing I decided to leave this for another time. On the way out (home to Melbourne) I saw what I thought was a better approach - another time.

On the third day of our river trip from Goolwa to Young Husband we moored our boat upstream from the spot and then headed off in our rubber duck. At the area we found an old rowing boat (and lots of mud) and once ashore we were greeted by a bearded, barefooted guy who had set up camp on the island for the Easter weekend. Obviously snakes and nettle dont bother him, nor the incessant roar of power boats very close by. We told him what we were doing and he led us to the spot where the cache was. He had looked at it but taken nothing according to him. We found however that the log book and pencil were both missing (maybe more). We took a keyring and left a ram mask.

well this one proved to be an interesting and challenging one for my dad and i even though we are very familiar with the area and luckily the water-ways officer Andrew... After about 15 minutes or so we were about to give up until i found the container in its little place. As the cache has not been found by many people the area has become very overgrown and the finding side of things extremely fun. As we were near our shack we decided to take the speed boat down the island to find it even though no power boats are allowed. We were fine until a silly bugger wanting a bit od private time to his lady friend on the sailing boat decided to call the water ways on us... Well as i said, lucky i new Andrew from way back and gt off scott free and ended up doing a bit of advertising for Geocaching...
Thanks alot team Piggy

Found at 14:20 after a 10 - 15 minute search. There are some really great hiding spots around there. We even found a container which would have made a perfect cache.
A beautiful day for a paddle. We tried to get a canoe from the local caravan park, but they were all being repaired. Instead, we went to the Sturt Reserve kiosk. They didn't hire canoes anymore due to public liability problems, so they let us steal them (really).
We must have moored in the samed spot as GeoCoopers. Took the Brittanica, and left a tape measure.
Be warned, the plants that look a bit like dope really sting - even 7 hours later.
When our conscience forced us to return the canoes, a staff member told us he would never go there because of the many tiger snakes. He also said many years ago the place was a nudist reserve.
Thanks Piggy. This made it a very enjoyable day, apart from my legs still stinging.

Found by Team GeoCoopers.
We had a great day for hiring a canoe from the nearby caravan park and going for a paddle. We brought Love-Piggy TB along for the ride also to visit the Piggy Jungle.
The cache a bit in the open but I don't think too many people pass through this jungle.
Took cable ties left Encyclopedia Britannica 2002.
