I have decided to log this as found due to the work involved in solving and obtaining the coordinates. I have tried contacting the co but had no response. I have had it confirmed by a previous finder as being in the correct spot and cache has definitely gone. What more can I do???
Done all the hard work and found the co ords..... Could not find the cache log at first so contacted a friend who has previously found ...who checked and it's not there ....CO owner has been contacted but deathly silence ....I have decided to log this but as unsigned until the log is replaced and then will sign
Went back with a previous finder and confirmed that this is definitely not there any more.
#998 - The countdown is on to the big 1000.
I am aiming to celebrate my 1000th find at my own event in a couple of days, so I have a few left to find before the 1st of Jan.
As there are a few left on my map over in Matua, I decided to concentrate on some multis which I had already solved some time ago. This one I had solved on 30/3/15.
I was bored and decided to try solve some of my unsolved puzzles caches while at home sick. The information was easy to find, and instead of skimming the info just to locate the answers, I thought I might as well read the info and learn more about the local history. After all, I had plenty of time to kill. The history lesson was interesting.
As for the find, well that was just frustrating. I tried a couple of times today and after confirming my suspicions about poor coordinates I was able to concentrate on the only place left to look. (Not that I could see it - I could only just reach it).
Unfortunately, the cache came apart when I got it down and it is missing its "connector", so there is no way to attach it as intended. I placed it back where it was, but its only just resting there and may fall.
Thanks for the enjoyable puzzle, the interesting lesson in Tauranga's History and the lesson on patience and going with caching instinct.
Happy New Year.

Out on an epic caching adventure with HKCB, iammrwalker and 11hpg11 as an honourary guest and the 'K' in signature 1HIK or HIK1 to make a dent in the caches of Tauranga.
This one was a little tricky. The others I think looked for this one previously and had some preconceived belief of what/where the cache should be. Fortunately HKCB found the cache a little higher than we were looking.

This geocache was found on my third trip to Tauranga/ The Mount/ Papamoa in the company of HKCB and 11hpg11 with a plan to clear out the area. We were joined today by Kyb3r another Hamilton Geocacher who was keen to be part of an infamous ‘mad mission’. We signed the logs with an anachronism of our Geocaching handles, usually ‘1HIK’ or ‘HIK1’. There were plenty of memorable moments and a lot of laughs as well. It was another long day; I got up at 4am and didn’t get to bed until midnight. We were a little disappointed not to meet our goal only getting about half way through our list of unfound caches. However we did tackle a number of difficult and complicated hides. We found some great and memorable caches and of course now have a great excuse to organise another trip to the area. Thanks to all the CO’s who provided us with such a great day out.
I solved this puzzle in preparation for our last visit to the area and when we couldn't find it I wondered if I got my numbers wrong. HKCB compared his answers with mine and I was reassured by the fact they were the same. I think we had a preconceived idea as to what we were looking for that turned out not to be the case. It was HKCB who eventually spotted it after a lengthy search.

Another big mission for our little Hamilton team. Maybe this time we can clean out Tauranga and the surrounding areas. Our team consisted of HKCB, Iammrwalker, Kyb3r and myself. We signed the logs as HIK1 (or 1HIK as the day went on!) Another 4am wakeup and we were on the road by 5am. Back home by 11pm I think it was, it was all kind of a blur by then! We were fueled by Sour Patch Kids, B.K., Caffeine and quite a few painkillers. We had a great day with a large variety of cache types, sizes and difficulty! Thanks to all the cache owners for their hard work on giving us some great quality caches to find. We had a few milestones hit today and I think we all had a great time. Looks like we might be back again some time in the future!
This was our second visit here, and we were determined not to leave until we had found it. A lot of looking... a HUGE amount of looking and eventually we found it in somewhere we hadn't really thought of looking. Just like that. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache

This is the 3rd mission over to Tauranga in recent months with 11HPG11 and iammrwalker to turn the place into a bunch of similes, but this time Kyb3r joined in on the fun also. An early start from Hamilton meant we were greeted by a fantastic sunrise of Tauranga as we made our way down from the Kaimai's, and by the time we had decided we had had enough the sun had well and truly gone to bed, but we did see it disappear while halfway up the Mount.
We found some great caches throughout the day and had some very memorable moments, and I even hit a major milestone, my 5000th cache find. We signed the logs 1HIK (an acronym of our caching names) or some combination of these letters to save room on the logs. A big thanks to everyone for all of the great cache hides.
This one eluded us when we were here last, but having read a few logs between now and then I had a gleamed a little bit more info so knew where not to look. Still it took us a far while to locate and like others have said, in a spot that we weren't expecting. Glad to get this one off the list, thanks for the puzzle.

nice puzzle - got us to the area - thanks to Phillip.Perry for the final hint (basically open our eyes lol )
Finally, we can put an end to searching for this one!!
After attending the nearby CITO we thought we'd stop and have our 4th go at looking for this one. Pulled up and made a rather quick find this time round in the only spot we hadn't searched on our previous visits. TFTPC!

I was off on a Road Trip to pick up a Road Trip 15 Souvenir today and also visiting 15 caches. The only trouble was one of the 15 was a DNF[B)].
Willbuild and I were in the right vicinity but had to get a bit of a nudge to the exact location of the cache.
Cheers for the cache.

Solved this puzzle last night as I had decided to grab this and the two multi's in Matua this morning.
I was a bit worried about the coordinates as there seem to be too many numbers but I plugged the digits into the gps and the location looked good.
Stopped here to get a clue for the Matua Multi and checked the area for this one but there were groundsmen all over the place so left to finish the multi. Upon my return, all was clear and I remembered something I read on a previous log about the vertically challenged so I made myself as tall as possible and laid hands on the cache immediately.
Great history lesson and awesome cache, TFTC!

Solved this one over a year ago and attempted to find the final a couple of times. This time came armed with a piece of special equipment that allowed me to access the spot that, by a process of elimination, it just had to be. Found, signed and replaced. Uber sneaky. TFTC
Finally!
Took 3 goes to find this. The first time the coords were a bit off due to not having correct answers on the puzzle. Second go we were on the money but a long search over a large area failed to turn up anything except for a couple of munzee stickers.
Eventually called out to the CO for some assistance which was kindly given, but only confirmed we were in the right general area.
Some more thorough searching finally revealed this deviously hidden cache. To think that was one of the first places searched - but just not thoroughly enough.
This one really stretched us

After attending the 15 Years of Geocaching event this afternoon we had just a few hours left to pick up some solved puzzles around the Tauranga area.
We enjoyed reading up about the history of the area, and answering the questions to get the final coords. From the logs we gathered that it would not be a straightforward find of the cache.
On arrival at GZ we checked out a couple of places before spotting somewhere else that the cache might be. And sure enough - it was! That was easier than we had been expecting! Nicely done, and thanks for the History Lesson.

7pm - Same as Matua Multi, 2 muggles leaving just as we got there. Learnt a bit more about Tauranga History. SLTFTC
We solved this a while ago and had a couple of trips to GZ to see if we could find the little one with no joy. It was difficult searching properly due to the number of people in all directions so we gave up. The thought of not finding this kept bugging us, so we emailed the CO and were given confirmation that we were searching in the correct spot just not in the right place. So we waited until dark to make a silent advance on this cache and still didn't find it, so back home to collect something to give us more reach. With this in place we still didn't find it in the place we were searching and then our hand was upon it! We had been reaching a little too high and there was a tool on site and in place that could have helped without the trip back home. Log signed and replaced (this took a little while in a car parked in the dark) then to replace the cache and this was duly done. Thanks nicrose for the History Lesson and the cache. Its a good hide and I don't think we would have found it without a little help!
Got all the coords and spent considerable time searching. Up high down low. Phone cables, trees, signs, shrubs. But alas could not lay hands on this tricky thing.
Any chance of getting a hint?

A nice quick find this time with a bit of help from squirrel nutcase. Great hiding spot.

A definite FAVE from us. Co-ords were spot on, but we had to hunt and hunt, and it was only after reading previous found logs that it hit me. Boom, cache in hand, super stoked! So this cache requires a bit of stealth, there's no need to dismantle telephone boxes and it's definitely muggle resistant. Unfortunately not ideal for the little ones or the 'vertically challenged' I hope to see some more smileys on this one in the future. Good luck.
Back in Tauranga for the weekend and thought we'd have another go at this one after a DNF back on new years eve. Spent at least 30 minutes here checking all the spots we checked last time. Nope its too good for us and we couldn't spot anything. It would be nice to have a hint to at least narrow down the search area, seeing as others have pointed out that the coords are a little out.
After solving we spent a while searching but came up with nothing. We are pretty sure the cache has gone. Will try again
Spent a good 30 mins trying to track this one down. Coords looked good on arrival to GZ and we searched in one spot the GPS was pointing to but no luck. Extended our search area to an item about 12m away which looked abit more promising. Around and around we went, looking high and low. Climbed up for a better vantage point but still no luck. Would be good to sign this one off before we head back home in a week. We will be back hopefully.
Solved the puzzle while I was waiting for my youngest daughter to finish training then we were of while the bigger kids had there training. Then were of to finally get the nearby cache rest a while which had taken me three or four visits got it tonight and then we were of to GZ after reading the previous logs I was looking high but couldn't see so I TAF who had previously found it to get on the right track and soon had cache in hand signed log and returned then back to Te Puna to get the rest of the kids and home to Rotorua.
First was the research, then the test, then the find. The research was definitely the easy bit as we took a lot longer to finally track down the sneaky hide after checking in all the wrong places first TFTC.

Solved the puzzle before leaving home but nothing obvious at GZ. Read some logs and expanded the search area but still no luck.
Day 5.....this has been a thorn in my side. Solved ages ago....probably the day after it was published, but it has taken 4 or 5 trips to find. The co-ords took me to a place where the clue and previous logs seemed to fit....but after talking to Tparty I discovered we were, probably, at least 8m away. What would it take to give me the answer i was after??? I had been stuck on this for ages.....give me a sign......a clue....anything...how big, how is it fixed....aarrrgghhhh - I had stood here, on this, reached here and there and then today - with the knowledge of how the container was fixed in location - it became a nice and simple, park up, out the car door and use my height to its best advantage - easy reach.
Glad this one is over!!! TFTC - cunning hide in the end, unlikely to get muggled (I would expect)

Been meaning to try for this one for some time now. Today provided the perfect opportunity. Found with help from past logs, 12 metres from puzzle answer coordinates. Tftc.
Thanks for the history lesson nicrose97 which I solved many months ago. I confess that I tried for a FTF when it first came out, but failed miserably. I couldn't find anything remotely interesting near the coordinates I computed. Today was about my 5th visit and I still had to PAF to get me close to GZ. I'm sitting here at home watching the final of X Factor thinking that this placement deserves a favourite vote from us too, simply for the "frustration factor" of trying to tumble to your hiding place. Well done from us!
To tree, or not to tree? That is the question. For this one, you need an orang-utan.
Thanks Nicrose97
Thanks Nicrose97
Well, Flossy gave us some clues and we returned at first possible opportunity. We had looked (eyes) here before but we needed to get our long arms into action ...and voila! Thanks very much for the cache and the great history lesson.
Didn't find...again...this must be the third or forth visit, previously with Tparty and even when I brought my gps with me nothing appeared obvious. Have read the logs and thought I had it nailed but definitely came at the wrong time as it was very busy and felt a little exposed and obvious......mmmmhhhhhtry again next time.
Very interesting history lesson about this area which we researched online. But the co-ordinates seemed unusual although we believe we searched in the right area, but to no avail today, even though our arms are reasonably long, hehe.
Another secret squirrel mission in the middle of the week. Trying to make the most of the good weather while it lasts...
One of my students did the research and found the answers. When we converted these to get a coordinate, we ended up with some extra digits. I emailed the CO and he indicated that the puzzle was fine. We soon discovered how to interpret the coords.
I visited ground zone on my last secret squirrel mission. No find then as I was too narrow minded. Sent out an SOS text to a previous finder and got the whereabouts confirmed. I had been in the right place... A sneaky hide too. TFTP and TFTC.

We found it most interesting researching the answers, having had grown up locally.
GPS lead us 12 metres from the cache, but all was good once we widened our search area... while Mr L was playing monkey in the trees, Mrs L came up with a much better idea...

went over on saturday thinking the answers to the puzzle may be on info boards around the park but no such luck.Did the necessary homework & came up with a GZ,was speaking to NZ Flossy who confirmed such but she warned me you will need long arms. Went back this morning with what i thought might be useful & i surely did need it.There are times when being short are a disadvantage. Enjoyed the puzzle & learnt a little more about the city we live in,thankyou.

Had done our homework on the puzzle at home and today tried the physical side of things.
This had us going for a long time, eventually flicked the cache owner an email and they gave us the height off the ground, even after that we took a bit, finally expanded our search area slightly away from the obvious and Bingo.
As KennyClan mentions in his log, our arms were long enough.
