13-Feb-24
Had me looking and all the while the other 9 in the group keep pedalling on. No matter, Ive done the Old Coach three times and this is one of the last to tick off. I have to say I was scratching my head and beginning to think time to move on but the perseverance paid off and there it was! TFTC

Found with trayc.g on a trip to the CNI. TFTC

12-Feb-24
A couple of kms in on the track and its time for the sunscreen to go on! Such a hot day today after yesterdays squally rain. Mr Muggle spotted this while I was still getting my phone out of its holder on the handlebars. Thanks for placing! I can see how much work was put into those concrete piers.

05-Feb-24
Had not planned to go geocaching while on the bike trail but guess what, it's impossible go resist! But we had not previewed the listings and therefore, had no idea what to look for, as there's no internet service. Smile had to do it the old fashioned way, just coordinates. Just when we were about to give up, there it was! Thanks. Smile

Just down from the desolate rocky maunga, so this bush walk was a nice change. Interesting structure and history here Quick find despite ‘low’ being taller than me, thanks !

We're currently staying at National Park, and popped down this way for the day. Walked along part of the Old Coach Road to find the first three caches, and will do the rest another time - hopefully on our mountain bikes! Great spot here, TFTC Smile

Parked at the suggested co ords, then rode our bikes. Rebel cycled this years ago when it just opened. Lots of stream crossings that have now been bridged.

Thanks for the cache!

11-Feb-22
Overcast day with a few spots of drizzle so good walking weather. Love old bridges and as I was admiring this one I could hear a ghost of the trains of the past thundering across it. But hey that sounds real, saw a train going along the new track from around the bend. What great timing. Love it.

29-Jan-22
Headed out for a late afternoon stroll with the family. Unfortunately i hadn't planned on such a walk and was only wearing slip on shoes and i now have the blisters to show for it. So we ended up turning back before the 3rd cache. Will be back another day, maybe even attempt the whole old coach road! Anyway beautiful scenery, easy track, quick find, all in order here. Thanks for placing these caches RadioNut.

28-Nov-21
#712. Mr and Mrs Northwood headed to Ohakune for a couple of nights to walk the Old Coach Road. And of course this meant a number of opportunities to look for caches in some interesting spots. We were not always successful - sometimes because we're being a bit more careful these days!

Great to tick a couple off from other 'Tron cachers. A first stop for the sights and a first find for the weekend. All in order here - TFTH.

25-Oct-21
A nice day for a bike ride. Will have to come back and do all of the Old Coach road. Thanks for placing the cache

01-Jul-21
Got the day off work so heading up to National Park. Lots of new caches here since we last visited which is great. Heading out to Tupapakurua Falls Lookout to get the new cache there then some others nearby. Found 21 caches including 3PGWT 1FTF and No DNFs. This was the last cache of the day and as the sun went down the whole mountain went pink. Not sure the photo does it justice but it was beautiful. Cache all fine. Thanks for the smiley.

26-Apr-21
Nice start to the ride as the rain that heralded our start had cleared and we had a good view of the bridge remnants. Fantastic to pick up some of the coaches along the journey. TFTC

19-Apr-21
Last one for today - we were tempted to continue the walk, but it was getting late so we decided to leave it for another day. TFTC!!

Another excellent cache on our almost ended bike ride, tftc

22-Jan-21
Cycling the Old Coach Rode with Sharkboy who doesn't want to geocache. Told him we could have a few stops for breathers/snacks/photos and if there so happened to be a cache I would quickly find it. Luckily I was the one who suggested these stops at very specific spots on the track. This was our first off as the carpark was too busy and decided to leave that one for another day when I can drive by and grab it.

Was thankful for the descriptive hint to help find the cache

13-Jan-21
Great track tftc

03-Jan-21
New to the game, first one we have found

20-Dec-20
Thanks radionut50 for placing this cache

We were here before Christmas and the cache was tricky to spot and there was a bit of blackberry to avoid but we got there!

My son and I enjoyed riding from Ohakune to Horopito and back on this old coach road... some bits were spectacular, some a bit bumpy, nothing too steep and the long downhill back to Ohakune was awesome !!

01-Nov-20
Happy Halloween, we found this yesterday, but not logged till today as we’ve been so busy having ohakune fun times. What an amazing spot here, geocaches great excuse for a pause, a photo and a fun find!!

06-Oct-20
Out for the day to ride the Old Coach Road and pick up caches along the way. This was the second cache and it was a bit of a struggle taking a few paces into the shrubs so I sent in my son who is much smaller. He easily found the cache Smile I dropped a TB, TFTC!

16-Jul-20
Found this last week when we cycled the old coach road, cold day but awesome ride TFTC.

27-May-20
Found with two boys, 7 & 4. Sufficiently distracted by their antics that I didn't read the description properly and was looking in all the wrong places. Can I just add that there's no need to follow the trail down... Haha! Oh dear, so glad I found it though. Lovely view, just on sunset.

29-Apr-20
We have gone down to Alert 3 in our Covid-19 lockdown, and Geocaching is now allowed, so time to re-enable the caches.

27-Jan-20
Staying over Anniversary weekend for some cycling around and about with a group from Tauranga. Having fabulous weather and doing some great cycling trails. Did our caching on the way back, took our time and really enjoyed ourselves. Took us a while to locate this beauty as it was well tucked away and even when we spotted it, it was a bit of a mission to get to. However, cache is all good. Excellent SWAG. Earns a fav from us. Loving the history. TFTC

18-Jan-20

Easy find while tramping the Old Coach Road part of a week long tramping
in the Ruapehu area with our tramping group missed a few not wanting to
hold up our group. Cycled it a few years ago on own bikes so did it both ways.
All cache's in good order.

22-Jan-19
Lovely spot for a cache.

Well, this is the last cache for me on the Old Coach Road before turning around to make my way back to the car sitting at the car park on Marshalls Road. It's mostly been uphill to this point so I'm looking forward to enjoying an easier ride back to the car. This was a straightforward find with no muggle worries.

It's taken me about 4 hours to walk/bike from Marshalls Road carpark to here and that's taking all rest stops (there was a few!) and cache stops into account. Going downhill is definitely a lot quicker as the return trip (from this point back to my car) took about 1hr 20mins. The weather has been kind to me with an overcast day and a bit of drizzle. I would struggle big time if it was a sunny, hot day. There was only one part where it rain quite hard but as long as you are prepared - which I was with my jacket, then all is well.

Thank you to all that placed caches along the Old Coach Road. It definitely was an adventure worth collecting Smile.

TFTC Smile

31-Dec-18
A good information board to show the old railway line. Cache was quickly spotted, but took some time to find the correct way in... TFTC

29-Dec-18
Took the family on a joint bike ride and geocaching trip. A quick find for this cache but the bridge looked to have been muggled. TFTC

01-Dec-18
We are bit short of time this morning before we have to be back in Ohakune to pick up our runners from the end of the Goat. Its hard work getting the teenagers out of bed and then out of the house. Drove as far as we could to shorten the walk so felt a bit like we were cheating. The things we do to get geocaches. Great trail though and planning on biking some of it this afternoon.

13-Oct-18
Came down with the kids to see our neighbors new bach at Horopito we decided to walk along cycle trail to get three caches then back to van and up the Mountain to get the Virtual cache up there. 29-Dec-17
I'm from Norway, escaping the cold winter and travelling around New Zealand for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tourguide. Today I started my day biking down The Old Coach Road, that was a very nice experience with lots of interesting history and a beautiful scenery. Afterwards I drove up to Whakapapa and did the wonderful LOTR-series around the Taranaki Falls-track. I finished my day by driving up to the end of Bruce Road and watched the beautiful sunset from up there.

About this cache:
Quick find in the bushes. Nice place to stop. Tftc

06-May-17
In Ohakune for the weekend with a bunch of friends, we decided to bike the Old Coach Road. Nice ride, and a cool spot to take a rest and find a cache. I’m starting to ponder once we reach the end do I have enough legs to make it back to Ohakune. TFTC

06-May-17
Last break before Horopito. Easy find although it was a bit tricky to scramble in the bushes with a bike helmet on the head and a backpack snagging. No way to turn around so had to back out of the geotrail. The return trip was slightly easier because mostly downhill, but there were still a few climbs and the legs started to feel the day. Thanks for the hides along the way to break up the trip.

15-Mar-17
The day started off cloudy, so I decided not to visit the National Park today. I did plan to rent a mountain bike this afternoon and let me drop off at Horopito to cycle the Old Coach Road, which was marvellous! This lost place is just superb; I'm working at the Dutch railways and railroads always have my special interest. Thanks for showing and hiding!

After spending Labour Weekend in Turangi for the Mega Event, I then spent a few days in Ohakune with family. Today I decided to take my mountain bike up the Old Coach Road to Horopito and locate the caches along there, after finding a few around town along the way. Headed into the bushes and quickly found the cache here. TFTC!

23-Oct-16
Found it aftera good 10 minutes

18-Oct-16
Another day, another viaduct, or three. After walking to the Hapuawhenua Viaduct from Ohakune yesterday, today we walked in from the Horopito end. Although initially the hiding area looked almost impenetrable, we soon found the easy way in to a quick easy find. The information panels along the trail were interesting, and in particular the mention of the angled middle pier. A favourite from us.TFTC
