Well that was a bit of a scramble. Only one of our team scrambled on far enough and in the right direction to find
Exploring around Paeroa with rattll during the long weekend, visited Karangahake to complete the Windows Walk adlab. Diverted up Scotsmans Gully to look for this cache. Trees down along the main track covered any evidence of a side track. A bit of a scramble/bash to reach GZ. An obviously historic site reclaimed by the forest, but soon found the cache. All good, signed, and returned as found. On the way out, found where the old track used to be, slightly easier route. Tftc!
Day three of the long weekend, and we are parked up in Paeroa, taking advantage of the cheap power sites.Today we're going to the Karangahake gorge, because matagouri hasn't done the 'windows walk' , which I did on my last visit to the area. The area was swarming with muggles today!Fortunately, this track was muggle free, as they may have wondered why we wanted to leave the track and scramble up a steep, slippery bank! We had a lot of trouble deciding where the best spot to go up was, so eventually just went for it, following the gps as best we could. Once at GZ, the hiding spot was quickly located. So interesting to think there was a house here.Another scramble to get back to the track, and then we continue following it up to crown hill rd. Thanks for putting a cache here to highlight this area. I left a pet rock - a snake
Travelling through the gorge with time to do some caching. Arrived to find the Windows walk was closed so liked for some alternative finds. Headed up the Scotsman’s track but wasn’t sure how to access GZ. About 30 m away a steep but definite track cut back to the left. I scrambled up and once at GZ the hint made for an easy find. That was a relief. Cache and log all fine. Thanks for the smiley
We weren't sure where to attack this from but found a path. A bit of a scramble to get here & then cache didn't take too long to find. Tftc
Was easy once we located the hint object which was a bit overgrown. Amazing to see these hidden, once occupied, places in the area. TFTC
Very overgrown in the area, lots of old bricks and ruins but covered in plants. Might be an idea to come back in winter.
We were (un)lucky enough to do this cache twice . Drove to the upper park as I kissed gravel earlier and was feeling delicate. Made our way across the nice stream and it was an easy stroll to near gz. I sent R up to do the hard work as I was buggered. He enjoyed the hunt and 10mins later he slid back down to the track.
It wasn't until we got back to the car and couldn't find the keys...that they must have slipped out of his pocket - *expletives*.
Back we go...and up I went to gz to help hunt. Interesting place up here, must've been a building or something here? Anyway...we found the keys and our torch he apparantly dropped as well haha. Glad to make it back to the car for a well earned rest.

Wow what a great spot! A satisfying find after a slog up to the summit. Got off track a little after spotting what I thought was the hint item, but GZ was apparently further away, so I scrambled up the hill further, then I knew I was there and locating the cache was easy after a quick scout around the relics. Log is a little damp. Added swag and a fresh ziploc.
Definitely took the hard way up. Found an easier way down. Located the hint item quickly but the cache had been pushed far in behind and I almost gave up before finding it. Nice little adventure. Tftc
Ah bless my newly signed up son for scrambling uphill to find this rather tricky hide. He got there eventually just as I was joining him to look and he swears this was a harder find than listed. Who said this was an easy past time haha!
Holy cow...........we did not find an easier way to this one. 2 1/2 terrain....? You NZ'ers are a tough bunch! I've done 4 1/2 ers that were easier.....but at least I managed to get this one without killing myself or my companion.............. Rather a historical area for sure, just watch your footing and pick a dry day to do this.! Thanks, buttz, for the cache hide!
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
Wow this one was hard to reach if you came the same way that we did then it’s a 4 terrain. we were scrambling up the hill by hands and knees slipping and sliding. Thank you for the geocache I’m glad we managed to finish the loop before sunset. Logs need some TLC. ***the best way to the cache you should take the pathway that starts on the right of the walkway at S 37° 25.4 60’ E 175° 43.149’.*** Head up hill and use the slightly obvious Geo trail.
It had been raining so the climb up the bank was a little slippery but didn't pose too much of a problem.
What a nice spot, its a shame the track up here hasn't been maintained.
Thanks buttz for bringing us here.

It was a bit of a scramble up the bank and a bit of a bush bash to reach GZ. But once at GZ the obvious location held the cache.
Mr Treasuretraka decide to brave the uphill climb to retrieve this one.

Dnf wasn't that adventurous today, being on my own I may have made it halfway there
What a scramble up and down to get this smiley! Glad I was with yodabeach or I may have put it in the too hard basket lol.
Great fun. Tftc

Took the direct approach up the hill. Found an old earthenware sewer line in excellent condition. I bet that discharged sewerage into the stream once.
Great location. Must have been a busy town once.
Thanks for the cache!

Always missed the track that leads to this. Today spotted it to make a quick find of well hidden cache. Drop off tb. Tftc
We first looked at a wrong place but after a second start we could discover the hide of the cache!

Great side track and an awesome location. A little plastic man still remains inside, along with paper and pencil.
Found the hiding place fairly quickly but didn't reach far enough. Had a scout and returned. Nice bush-caching! TFTC.
Great placement buttz ...I was up here with a group doing the summit track and collecting a few caches a while back...I don't know why but I miss this one....so today was the day and I am glad as it's something special and good to be off the main track nice we climb ...it's amazing to think what it was like up here a hundred or so years back ...with all the hidden relics....it took me a tad long than it should to find as I spotted the wrong clue and was to low ...soon found it and signed thanks butz for brining me to this wonderful spot
We walked up Mount Karangahake before Christmas and walked past this cache. We were quite tired when we came back down, and missed this little side track so decided to find it another day. Back today and a casual walk up the track and found the small off-shoot track. Got close to GZ and spotted a likely clue, but no. Decided to gain a bit more altitude, and then it all made sense. Thanks for the placement buttz.
Once ApacheD and I had set up camp we proceeded to do the loop track and find all the caches on the way. Apache found this cache as I was reading the Hint. We had this part of our walk to our selves no muggles around this afternoon.

I ended up on the wrong track and couldn't figure out why all the waypoints were getting further away. I was thinking about calling it a day, and started heading back towards the parking lot, when I saw the correct trail. Headed up, and was surprised how quickly the area changed. Thanks for the waypoint for turning at the stream - I think I would have missed that easily because of the beautiful waterfalls on the other side of the trail. Getting to GZ was straightforward, and the hint was super helpful. Thanks for the cache!

Last time I was here was about 5 years ago, I logged 4-5 DNFs in the gorge. Granted I was a pretty new cacher then. Today I bring sveppi back while on holiday trying to use the extra 1000 finds worth of experience and a more recent technology GPS to have another crack at them, plus some new ones that popped up in the mean time as well.
After walking all the way to the Waitawheta Pipeline cache and back we spot the description to this cache that sounds appealing. I like little known side tracks that send us to forgotten spots. The vegetation is much different here with a lot less natives and a lot more european species. I can picture the little laneways and terraces holding little shacks. Nice stream and nice gully. Adventure to the cache which is what I wanted. Easy find once the GPS zeroes in properly. Cache could be bigger, but nice and dry so that's the main thing. Thanks for showing us!

After walking the Waitawheta Pipeline track we decide to explore a bit more in this amazing area. Neat little track up here and a good find with a decent hint. Yes it was a bit slippy. The gully is nice though so we continue further.. TFTC
Day two of my NZ MEGA trip.
Stopped here for a look at the old gold mines, this did not disappoint.
Hard to find the path here, slid down more than once in the wet an muddy conditions. Happy that I did find the cache too
Thanks for hiding this cache

We were spending a lazy long weekend with friends in Whanga but then, late last night, the rest of the family got the offer of an early morning west coast diving & fishing trip: I'd hardly even blinked & they were gone! I opted to stay behind and meander home today, especially as I was keen to go for another walk in the gorge on my way past. I'd hoped to get up to the summit again but, with heavy early morning rain & low cloud, decided to play safe and stay low. Set off from the gorge carpark to Dickey's flat & then returned via the Dubbo & level 7 tracks - hoping that it'll clear sometime soon, as forecast, but its not looking likely.
Realised from the topo that I needed to drop down to the Scotmans gully track & then up the slope again to get to GZ here so, being only about 60m from the cache, decided to straight line to GZ from the track above. Not so much a bush bash, more of a bush slide in the wet today. A nice straightforward find when I got down. Cache all good, signed & tried to avoid getting the log wet, replaced & now to work out how to get out of here! Thankfully, found the path easily & onto the main trail back to the carpark. Still really glad I opted to walk the circuit around the gorge today - it is such an amazing location, despite the weather and the mud. Thanks for the placement.

A good leg stretcher from Karangahake car park, via the pipeline and Dubbo tracks and back down the mountain. Found 8 caches on the way. Took a while before I realised I needed to venture off the track. Found the way up and followed the GPS to zero and there it was.
Thank You. David.
Thank You. David.
After having a quick walk some of the way up the valley with the whole team we returned to the bottom for a spot of lunch and to offset the disappointment for Poppymjr of her DNF earlier we set out to grab this one. We left the others basking in the sun and enjoying the river and quickly walked up the gully and easily found the junction to turn left. A few minutes later the clue was spotted and the cache was signed and returned and off we went back down the way we came.
A great little walk - thanks!!

Today with the start of daylight savings it would have been wrong to not make the most of the extra hours light and the chance to be up the hill all on my own. Today I managed to collect 26 caches and cover 18kms in this part of the gorge. What a magical place up in the upper reaches especillay where there is a distinct lack of others about.
Having taken the wrong track from where I had parked the car (which put me about 40min behind my self imposed schedule) I stopped here as it was my first cache of the day and I was hoping not to have to come back along here.
After dropping down from the main track to this gully track and making my way along the stream this was a great find in a very tranquil spot. Hard to imagine all the activity along here when the gold fields were going in full swing all those years ago.
This was my first cache for the day.
Thanks for the placement and the trek through the hills into areas that I hadn't been before.

Our first time ever on the Scotsman's Gully Track - thoroughly enjoyable, we always enjoy caching in the Karangahake Gorge.
Todays Road Trip for us and Squirrel Nutcase was to attempt the Waiawheta Loop Track. Left home about 7am and finally got home about 8pm with mission accomplished plus a few extra caches in between.
12.55pm - This has been the hardest so far to find, bit of climb up to cache but all okay. SLTFTC

A very long day of walking ahead... With Gap (of Fap and Gap). We've been wanting to clear out the concentration of caches in the Dickey's Flat/ Karangahake/ Waitawheta areas for a while now.
We avoided a hasty, bush bash off the main track some metres above. Though the gps was telling us we were close enough, we figured there would be a track into this one. There were a couple of family groups on this section of walkway, but they were more than preoccupied. Gap sorted this cache out for us, after a bit of effort. TFTC.

It was time for me to do the big loop walk starting from the main Karangahake carpark, up the Crown Hill track to the Dubbo and then back down, with a few ups and downs on the way.
I tried the direct approach first but gave up as the bank was rather slippery. Did find another way in. Knocked on the virtual door and was very glad the virtual person didn't answer it.
Cheers for the cache.

The men went up to this one while we stayed at the battery, exploring. They found it a steep climb, but it sounds like it was hidden in a lovely spot which I missed. Steed said it was a bit like a movie set. He left another Anzac coin.
Kept going despite the rest of the family giving up and leaving me to it! tftc
We decided to make the most of the Easter break and catch up with our Geo buddies SteedandPeel and enjoy a walk around Kaharangi Gorge today. Steed and I left Peel Mrs Walker and the mini Geo members of our clan at the swing bridge to explore the area while we took a detour for this cache. Its a great location for a cache and the hint ensured a quick find. Thanks for bringing us here.
Found it in today's afternoon walk.
Thank you for cache!

Left this one the last time we visited this area, so didn't want to pass it again. So up I go. At first I thought I found the hint, but it was a pipe and still way out....so further up...hmmm the doggies are so much faster as I, one day....maybe one day I will train them so they can get the cache and put it back again hihi.
Happy to find it still in good shape.

Stayed the night in Hamilton to be able to make it nice and early out Karangahake Gorge to hike the trails and explore some of those tunnels.
It was an awesome day out for a good hike and at the end of the day I walked around 28km .
Nice climb and find at GZ. TFTC

Every day we are traveling around is same but also different. Today we had again the pleasure to visit some very beautiful spots and were also able to find nearly placed geocaches. I thank every single owner for placing it and giving us with doing this an other good reason to come here.
Mallorcatommy and I were travelling through the northern island of New Zealand. What an amazing, breath-taking landscape! On our way we did some nice walks, enjoyed ourselves and found great geocaches. Thanks to all owners for nice hiding spots... We wouldn't have been to a few places without these little boxes!
Thank you!
Thank you!
After walking past this cache track so often in our travels, we finally took the time to find it. All good. TFTC

Found this one during the group walk while attending the annual BBQ & Campout event TFTC.
Found this one as part of the anti-clockwise group from the Waitangi weekend event. Once again Miss Jacksonz proved her worth scrambling up for this one. TFTC.
Found this cache with the group of cachers walking along the track in the anti-clockwise direction on the hike organised by Greenblat and KiwiLeon for the Dickey's Flat Camp-out Event. A quick scramble up the bank, and we soon had the cache in hand. Thanks for hiding!
Found with a small group of fellow "Team Anti-Clockwise" hikers after a little bit of hard graft up a hill. It's amazing what items one can discover in the middle of nowhere. But then, maybe a long time ago, this was actually somewhere. TFTC
Found this one with everyone in the clockwise group while attending the Waitangi campout event at Dickeys Flat. Abit of a scramble up the bank but the cache was quickly found. We signed the log "clockwise team" which sped up the signing process, TFTC!
What a detour! a bit of a bush bash, and the GPS bounced about a bit, but with the hint the cache was found. A very picturesque part of the walk, this was our lunch stop! yeah....got to soak my feet in the stream.
Wondered what the history was of the "do up" that we past clinging to the edge, with its excellent ventilation (broken windows).
The log was signed the "Clockwise 17" to save on filling the log with all our names. I did take a photo of GZ if requested. Thanks for the hide.

Logged as part of the "Clockwise Team 17" during the weekends event nearby. We decided to have lunch at this pretty little spot by a babbling brook. Glad we didn't run in to the Scotsman, I've heard they can be rather mean? TFTC
Last stop before lunch today with the camping event crew and after a quick scramble up the hill the cache was quickly found in a likely looking spot. Really enjoyed the history of the place here and really enjoyed lunch by the stream when we made our way back down to the main track. TFTC
Found this one with the Clockwise Cachers on our hike ......Phew ! Finally time to eat our yummy lunches by this gorgeous nearby stream !

Out looking for a few caches with the Hamilton crew before the campout event. Good stuff!
Staying at Dickeys Flat and had organised with a few others a warm up walk to the summit before the big walk on Saturday. We passed by this one on the way so scrambled up to grab it before carrying on up to the top of the gorge.
Made a plan with 11HPG11, Zorgon, and Kyb3r to tackle the summit before heading to Dickies flat for the Geocaching BBQ camp-out. Glad for a reasonable start this morning compared with our usual missions. We meet up at the car-park at just before 9 and got the gear ready while we waited for the others to turn up.
After a false start heading up the wrong track a few hundred meters, we re-started headed up the right track (the scotsman) and towards this cache. Took a bit of scratching around before the cache was located by Zorgon. GPS was a little bumpy but with 4 sets of eyes looking we soon narrowed it down. Thanks for the hide.

Very nice to be able to spend Waitangi Day morning on a walk with friends. Called in here on the way up to the summit. Initially missed the turnoff but soon had it sorted and the cache in hand. Interesting what historic relics are still lying around the area.
