#3906 An outing with DeadThief and injuryman to pick up as many caches as we could physically manage along Mt Tennant, Bushfolds Flat and Blue Gum Creek Fire Trails. Parked the vehicle of the day (injuryman-mobile) and hit the trail at 7.15am. It was a fair hike all on foot and returned to the car at 3.45pm. No idea how many kilometres in total but my body is starting to contest my ownership.
Hopefully I wasn’t the butt of any jokes today but it certainly rocks up here in Namadgi. Unlikely to be able to pick a better day for heading up here. Thanks Tankengine for placing this series.

Long day hiking, more then 25 KMs done under great weather conditions. Had more planned, but my hike was unfortunate interrupted by 2.5 hrs, only made it back to the car just before sunset. Most caches we're in excellent condition.

**This Cache**
A reach over was all that was needed here, no need to go around the back!
Thanks for this one, another ticked off on the walk
---
**Today:**
Decided to make use of the cool, dry weather after a couple days of rain to come on a hike down in Namadgi! I can't even remember the last time I found myself hiking in Namadgi, I struggle to find the time for it amongst other geocaching adventures but I hope to do more soon!
Sent an invite out to sebass as well, after discovering he was keen to go caching with some company! Always good to have another friendly face to enjoy the experience with and looking forward to caching together in the future, we already have future plans to tackle the second half of the Tennant Trail! This trip we started on the Tennant Fire Trail, grabbing the first 10 caches in the series that follows it, before diverting along Bushfold Flats Fire Trail for some more unique caching in a new area! Couldn't keep up half the time, despite walking 30,000+ steps and 24km, Sebass was still powering at god speeds by the end of it!
Thanks Tankengine for the adventure

I had meant to come up here a month ago with the CO and friends on a maintenance run; alas, I was feeling bleh after my Covid vaccine so gave it a miss. Fast forward a month and today found the GeoKids and I getting a bit of the school holiday boredom, so we packed up and parked in the usual spot off Apollo Rd (spying the cars of our caching buddies StarsAlign + Contesta there too!).
We set off along the fire trail on what turned out to be a superb winter's day. As always a spectacular, although steep in parts, walk. It's great to see the regrowth after the destruction of the fires, but also sad to see the damage caused which is very apparent when looking across to Deadman's Hill and Booroomba Rocks.
All the 25 caches we found today were in (unsurprisingly) excellent condition and were quickly located at GZ with the assistance of bespoke coordinates and generous hints. All up we walked 17.68km return with an 820m elevation gain. The trip took us 6:20hrs which included generous breaks for snacks and fo me to get my great back (the GeoKids charged up and down the mountain!) as well as a short diversion into Bushfold Flats hut.
This is a superb caching trail, Tankengine - thank you! We all enjoyed it immensely.

Cache 7602 on 5 Jun 2021.
Out with a bunch of geocachers to climb Mount Tennant on a Sunny but cold winters day. The bunch of cachers being Joolay, Isopedia, Contesta and the CO. The CO needed to do maintenance, so we decided to join him on a walk/bike up the hill. All caches found (as originally placed or as replaced today) in accordance with the hints unless otherwise indicated.
Contesta joined us here and made the find.
Thanks Tankengine for the caches, the exercise and the fun!

After a freezing start to the day, was lucky enough to be part of the ‘official maintenance crew’ assisting the CO to check on the Tennant Trail series.
Decided on taking the MTB as it’s not had nearly as much used as I would have liked in recent weeks so any excuse is a good excuse right. Up up and away! Great adventure to finally find this series after the fires.
Grateful thanks Tankengine, for placing and maintaining so many great caches that continue to bring joy and entertain me on my journey.

Found with Tankengine, Isopeda, Contesta and AngelG27, venturing up Mt Tennant. Not sure if I am crazy or not. Fabulous day to be out and about.

Uff... It's getting steep...
Out on the trail with Tankengine, AngelG27, Joolay, and Contesta to find caches with owner maintenance. First time back in this part of Namagi after the fires.

Am planning on a maintenance run on this whole trail soon! So today I came out to try and phantom what I might be up against! Hmmm - the fires were really bad! So I fixed this one. Good to go.

The lid is hard to close, but OK if you are gentle. Also, it is hanging in the bush, but not fastened, but that is OK. So the cache is good to go.
30,000+ steps, 27 caches and a leisurely (though hard work at times) 6 hour trip to Tennent's Tip and back with dty73 and Tankengine.
Luckily the weather remained kind to us throughout the day and the rain stayed away (and it's always easy to find a cache with the CO in tow!)
Thanks for placing this series along the trail and inspiring me to ascend the mountain today. I definitely appreciated all the stops to search for caches, though it was difficult at times to convince the legs to start moving again!
Thanks again dty73 and Tankengine for a fun day out.

BoujeeBunny and Tankengine had made plans to come and pick up the caches all the way up to the top. As I hadn't done these yet I asked if I could join in the "fun".
So BoujeeBunny picked Tankengine and I up at about 8am and we were parked at No. 1 just before 9am. 6hrs later we had climbed up and back (approx. 15kms), collected 25 caches (for me as I had done No. 1 & 2 previously), had lunch, seen a hut and met a lot of crazy people who seemed to just climb the mountain for fun of it without getting one cache!! Muggle Madness!! We were even passed by one crazy person who was running down the road - we bet that he had run up it too.
It was a good day for it though. The weather was cool and clear, but I still had to take my jacket off half way up. The rain from the previous night had softened the ground, but even though there were a couple of times one of us would sink up to the laces of our shoe in a spot or two, the road was mainly just soft which I think was better than hard dry ground. The wind at the top was chilly though and once we had stopped and sat down for a little to eat lunch I had to put my jumper back on.
As Tankengine was there each cache of his was checked and maintenance performed if necessary. The couple that weren't his were all fine too.
Thanks for a great day guys and of course TFTC Tankengine!!!

Container had lost it's teher, and I didn't have any means to tie it up, so I hung it up in a tree on a branch stub.
Another one done. Woo Hoo! I enjoyed finding this one at 11:28:51 AM.
I love the challenge of the geocache hunt - read the notes, decipher the cache requirements, and go searching for the hide. This is an amazing world-wide game of hide and seek. I love it! I also enjoy caching with my 2 boys, and meeting fellow cachers. It really is a small world when I read over cache logs and see names of my friends who have found caches around the country. Thanks go to **** for making the effort to place this cache and maintain it. It's a great contribution to the Geocaching community and it is very much appreciated.
TFTC! Cheers. *Jump Pilot*

What an incredible hike! An amazing trail with breathtaking views. The weather turned at the summit and we got some lightning and thunder, so our time at the tip was cut short. A great (but slightly wet) walk back down the front. TFTC
It was getting about time I explored this side of Mount Tennant - for years I've been ascending the northern face from the Namadgi Visitor Centre, and I'd found all the Tennant Trail caches in the upper stretch. While I knew all along that a trail led up the other side (and have driven past the trailhead plenty of times!), I'd never actually thought to try it.
Given the density of caches, however, I decided not to do the whole thing in one afternoon, and instead followed the track until the turnoff to Bushfold's Flat, to make that the objective of the day's journey.
Altogether it was a very pleasant walk, not too warm, and completely deserted on the trail! I had a couple of close encounters with snakes, and once with a wayward calf, but came to no harm. Definitely a walk I reccomend!
Thanks for the caches!

It had been a while since I'd walked up a good hill (six weeks in the complete flatness of central-northern Victoria followed by a dodgy back will do that) and if you're after a good hill, Mt Tennent is as good as any. I had walked this trail once before without doing any caches - one of those days I just felt like walking without stopping to cache - but today the caches beckoned.
Quite a long, tough walk and a few days of aching legs followed, but it was definitely worth it to summit Tennent on this glorious day. All caches found without trouble. Lyrebirds spotted. Emu tracks spotted. All rather excellent.
Apologies for the generic caches, but you'll understand. TFTC x 20 something

A more strenuous than expected ramble up Mt a Tennant on a rather warm Canberra Day. Three muggles along for the ride. I think this trail is more difficult than the other trail....
Thanks Tankengine

With the warmer day it was a respectably early start collecting CBR_Grahams along the way that had us starting to walk about 7am. With the cool of the morning the almost continual climb wasn't noticed any where near as much as I had thought it would as we walked upwards stopping as needed and taking a few breaks. The casual approach made for a very scenic and enjoyable walk, taking in the area and its views as they appeared. Good company and plenty of conversation passed the time and although that one last climb at the end towards the summit was felt, arriving at the top and taking in the 360 degree views made the walk completely worth it.
The highlight of the top would have to be invited up into the fire viewing platform with the most amazing views and the very high powered binoculars we were offered to take it all in. Spectacular!
The walk down was a lot slower with the heat of the day and was surprised at how steep it was at times, but overall was a much easier and achievable walk than I could have imagined. The last hill up to the car was by far the hardest of the day but the esky of ice cold drinks waiting for us was very welcomed. Thanks for the cache Tankengine.
Not as prickly as I had thought but did have problems getting the cache closed and spent a bit of time on it. Noticing there are a lot less flies and the views are nice.

So Aquilus1 messages me, "do you want to do the Tennant Trail", for sure... when? "tomorrow morning", hmmm OK, The geowife gave the all clear and I set the alarm to stupid-o-clock so we could get it all done and dusted well before the heat really settled in. So we park the car at 7am and Aquilus1 very patiently waits for me to make the first two finds which she has done before.... right, the real action starts now!
It was a surprisingly pleasant walk up the mountain, though we decided not to kill ourselves and we took our time. We walked past a few caches without realising.... we were way to chatty but these offered things to do on the descent. At the top we were invited up onto the fire viewing platform which offered amazing views, especially with the binoculars that they use.
All in all a long, but very rewarding day. The car never looked so good and there were even ice cold drinks inside...Yay!
The name on this one had us a little worried, but it wasnt as bad as we had anticipated, in fact we did think to ourselves a few caches later that the prickles started at this one, but were not the worst. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache and the whole series.

I sought out some geocaches in the vicinity of Mt Tennant while undertaking the Wednesday bushwalk and found six. All were all reasonably straightforward finds, being within a few metres of the coordinates. Thank you Tankengine for installing and maintaining these caches.
Wonderful walk/climb with b&s today ... thanks for the cache and the series Tankengine
Ok, well on the way with two geokids (7 and 9 yrs) in tow. Aim is bushfold hut and if we have motivation and energy push on to the top, but let's see how we go eighth cache on our run up. This cache was a quick easy find. Left a trinket but took nothing. Tftc
The thread on this cache has been cross threaded and it was VERY difficult to open and close. It needs a replacement cache. TFTC Tankengine.
TikvaNZ and I decided Christmas Eve was a perfect opportunity to undertake a 6hr assault of Mt Tennent, by completing the Tennent Trail series up to the top and plenty of bush-bashing down the other side. 28 caches, 1 small brown snake, 1 blue tongue and 3 goannas!
Found it no problems, but, as noted by TE, the thread on the container has had its day. Even with care, I really struggled to get a good seal. I did my best, but I'm not confident with the final result. TFTC TE

Attacking the Tennent Trail today. Car park to summit return, including breaks was 6:02 hrs. Great day to be outside. TNLNSL TFTC
11915. Today I decided to complete the Tennent trail which I started back on 27 July 2014 !
Public Holiday with perfect weather? Just the right conditions to tackle the far side of Mt Tennent. I did the (original) first 6 with GSC2000 and AwesomeL over 2 years ago, and with the extra 2 added plus the hut it was time to go for the walk up and up to the top.
Parked in the usual spot and walked down and along the first part of the trail. I said to myself "thats going to hurt on the way back" - and it did ! Got to this next one and had a much quicker find. Signed the log, returned the cache, and continued upwards.
Thanks Tankengine !! As others have said this one has a cross-threaded problem but is still sealing at the moment. Might need a look next time you are up this way. While a few others are tight, none are cross-threaded that I noticed.

This one lived up to its name for me. A branch of the prickle bush got caught in the top of my backpack which had a camera tripod sticking out and slid down between my back and the pack snagging me very uncomfortably. TE must have very low knees. I had to lie on the ground to retrieve this one. And I can confirm that the lid is cross threaded and difficult. A few of the others around here also have the same problem. TFTC
This took a bit longer because it seems impossible to close the container afterwards. It seems that the thread of the lid has been damaged.
Yes I know there prickle bushes. I have dreadlocks and these constantly feel like they are ripping my hair out.
TFTC TNLN Quick find.

Great, sunny autumn day to hike up to Mt Tennent. Many thanks for placing so many caches along the way, making an enjoyable hike even more enjoyable.
Tankengine, we found this one already badly cross-threaded, and the lid would not be coaxed back on straight despite best efforts.
4743. Well Relish64 and myself decided it was time to hit the trail, so with backpacks loaded we made a casual start and headed off.
A great trail with some welcome breaks at each cache. No troubles locating each one and eventually we found ourselves at the top with some very rewarding views.
We totally agree that everyone should at least come up here once and we will definitely be back up here again. Maybe a different route.
Many thanks TE for the extra motivation with this trail and apologies for the generic log.... but you get that !!!

Spent awhile looking but no luck. Just noticed the co ord update will return for a smiley. TFTC
Located the cache easily enough, but the sample container was jammed right down the bottom of the outer one - REALLY jammed! It took about 15 minutes to get the sample container to the point that it could be grabbed and pulled free - unfortunately, my efforts damaged the first (soft) thread on the outer container so I was unable to screw it back together properly (many apologies for this). Should still stay waterproof for a while at least. TFTC Tankengine.

So, we found this cache but the log was too wet to sign. I'm therefore adding this note here as well.
Found today with some bush walking friends. We walked to the summit of Mount Tennent from the Namadgi visitor's centre, and then walked down the other side of the hill to collect these caches. I think Tennent is actually probably easier form the cache direction, but less scenic. Overall, 1,000 meters vertical ascent and about a 16km walk.
Thanks for all these caches, much appreciated.
Thanks for all these caches, much appreciated.
Not being winter, I waited for a cool day to attempt this series. Although considered a "walk in the park" by many cachers, I found this tough going with its relentless uphill climbs. Overall a great day out, just a pity about the roadwork crews that were grading the road and making lots of noise. 3.75 hours up (lots of stops!), 1.5 down.
I spent ages looking for this one. In the end I was concentrating too much on the bushes higher up.
Thanks

#1226 7 of 24 today.
I have a 'spare' week of leave to use up. Hmmm what should I do ? Sit around at home ? Not likely !
I've had the Tennent Trail in my sights for some time. I've been up here once before on a bush walk about 5 years ago. The view was one of the best I've seen. Time to revisit & claim a few more Tankengine caches. I must be getting close to 100.
I was a bit worried about doing the Tennent Trail today after waking to wind & rain, but the forecast was for clearing conditions, so I thought I'd delay the start & head out anyway. I'm glad I did. As I climbed higher & higher the conditions progressively improved. By the time I reached the summit, clear blue sky, a few gusts of wind but otherwise lovely, uninterrupted, breathtaking views - with no muggles.
I scratched my way past this one before I realised it held the cache. It took a few minutes searching to find it. Once again log was damp.
Thanks for the cache Tankengine.

Last when in the area for the earth cache at the old tracking station we saw this bush power trail and thought that looks like a good leg stretcher so we had it in mind for today but things got away from us a little bit on checking the forecast we figured we could still get up and back prior to night fall. We parked and headed over to the gate for the first of the finds we had targeted (we are on a bit of a diet to avoid 1.5/1.5 caches. The creek looked to have a bit of water flowing in it but as we got close we could see it was very shallow and our shoes would be water proof enough for a quick dash. We started to get a feel for the hides but skipped two on the way up as the school had a camp setup happening but we got them on the way back down. We also could not find two others on the way up and rather than use up all our time searching instead of reaching the top but found them quickly on the way down. A walk with plenty of Roos around for a round trip of just over 3.5 hrs. A couple of damp logs but all signable and we drained what we could from a few containers. TFTC.
This one took some finding as was lower than expected. In fact it was found when I slipped over and saw it inches from my face

Time to finally get round to doing Tennent Trail. I have been looking forward to this one for a long time.
Started a bit warn out after doing "Gudgenby George" which I didn't expect to be difficult. I haven't been up this track for quite some time. Last time was for a night cache (now archived) on push-bikes.
It's a continuous "up" power series, so it was just a matter of keeping going. Finished the lot and did a couple of extras that were along/near the trail.

Hmmm. Typed in my log, but somehow it didn't stick. Pity because it was particularly well written
My second cache on the ascent, and wandered around aimlessly, Finally, stumbled across the pro-tip: read the title!

Bei den vielen Dosen verliert man beim Loggen leicht den Überblick. Wir konnten aber alle gut finden und bedanken uns beim owner fürs Verstecken und Pflegen.
Well the down is certainly easier on the legs (not so the ankles, Loki only slipped about 30 times...). We were watching this one approach carefully as we didn't want to miss it twice. A quick find at 2:45:00 PM but delicate retrieval required.
And then it was onwards to the car and crunchie mcflurry reward! [^] That last uphill section back to the carpark is just awful! But we made it eventually.
All up 3h15m up, 40 min stop at the top and 1h 45 min down. 810m elevation gain (although not sure how reliable that is...); 15.58 km, 4.3kph average moving speed. Happy to finally be able to say we've climbed that hill - yes that one, with the big gash on it!
Thanks Tankengine for an enjoyable day out

Haven't been up Tennant for nearly four years. Since the time of the one smiley on top there is now a great collection. Started late, so hiked up the Southern face as quick as possible with Fit02, lunch at the top (great hot chocolate thanks to Fit02). Rapid decent with caches along the way.
Came back to get this one that we failed a couple of weeks ago. This one had us stumped again for quite some time, until we suddenly saw it and it was just .... there!
The start of another day of adventure. TFTC!

#89 The seventh cache of the day whilst climbing Mt Tennent with my dad. Well, this certainly was a prickly little bush. I was glad it wasn't much bigger! We got phone reception at this cache, which was good as we could tell home that we were still alive! Still got a bit of a way to go to get to the top! TFTC Tankengine!
Great series! Didn't quite make them all today but we got snowed on, which was exiting.
We couldn't find this one, although in the sleat made us not want to search very hard.

Down in the ACT to visit family, who are all working today, so I've decided to climb a mountain!!
I left a bit later than I was intending on and made a stop at the visitors information centre to learn a bit more about this beautiful area of countryside.
After the last find took so long, I was really hoping to make a quick easy find here. This was not to be the case! It looked like GZ was underneath a newly fallen tree and I spent too long, once again, looking for the cache. Ready to give up I headed back towards the path but decided to check the GPS just one last time, in the clear of the trees.
The compass pointed to a slightly different direction this time and I decided to give it another go. As I stepped closer the not so obvious geotrail stood out and I walked right up to the cache! I didn't realise it was there until I tried to look from a different perspective!

Went out with "Tennent Tragic" team - SiteHounder, joeylovestreasure, C-chord, ACTchil, TripperOutThere, KittyKatch and AmethystPig and of course "Nutto". I found this one which gave me the will to go further. tftc Tankengine
Went out with JLT and a group of cachers (collectively called ourselves 'Tennant Tragics') for the morning. A pleasant walk and terrific views. TFTC.
Out geocaching with Primary Evidence & Zangetsu. Our mission is to get to the top and meet up with Green-martian who has been here and done that... but phone signal is very limited now. Green-martian just wants to stretch his legs. Again. Thanks TE.
Tennent Tragics - a few of us went in to make this find but Darzee Di came up with the cache. I take a deep breathe and head back up the mountain. Tough climb but I'm going to do this!

After arranging to tackle this series and a few extras today, the team consisting of Zangetsu, TheSkype and myself headed off on the Mount Tennent trek. After meeting up with the "Tennent Tragics" at the carpark, we split shortly after and made our own way onwards and upwards.
Nearing the top, we met up with Green-martian, who guided us down the rocky escarpment from the peak, down past "Tennent Trauma" and back to the vehicle(s) via the rock/mud slide and following the creek bed nearing the bottom. What an experience it was!
Apologies for the generic log(s), don't normally resort to this but with multiple logs it was to be.
TFTC and the series Tankengine!
Well worth it and thoroughly enjoyed.

Found at 0935 - but I found the prickle bush a couple of minutes before that, by walking straight through it! It took most of the group traipsing through the undergrowth to find this one; my GPSr was giving me 5m accuracy which was pretty good considering the weather and tree-cover yet still just off enough to lead me all over the place, so without the extra pairs of eyes on the hunt it probably would've taken me much longer. Thanks for the cache Tankengine.
Feeling quite unfit but appreciating the morning out with fellow geocachers. TFTC.
Got a bit prickled looking for this in the wrong spot. Of all the caches found by the Tennent Tragics on this day, this one took the longest to find. But we got it in the end.

I had a great day walking to the top of Mt Tennent and finding this series of caches with Darzee Di, KittyKatch, Sitehounder, Tripperoutthere, Amethyst pig, Knutto, joeylovestreasures and c-chord. It was a tough climb but well worth the effort. we were the Tennent tragic group, tftc Tankengine
Darzee Di found this, but not without a bit of looking by the group. We signed the log as Tennent Tragics as there were 8 +1 muggle in the group. TFTC
Gee wizz I felt unfit. Not even half way through the series, and muscle cramps at play. I'm not even that old!
Its a good thing these caches are fairly straight forward! tftcs

As I said in the first of this trail GC4B97M these have all blurred so not much more to add.

A nice wander up Mt Tennent Fire Trail to the tip, collecting caches on the way. TFTCs.
Missed this one last time and thought I was going to this time. Thought I'd need to save it for the return downhill trip in case it looked different! However one of those times where I moved slightly and there it was in full view.
Going to give it a favourite just coz it eluded me once, just coz the whole trail deserves a big tick and just coz!

A great series! So well put together and it encourages a great walk. A huge investment by the CO for our enjoyment. See 'GC4BAJT 21 Tennent trail - Burnt tree' for some individual details. TFTC and TFTS, Tankengine.
A beautiful Australia Day morning, what better way to spend time than doing some geo's.
Started at Apollo rd around 8.15am doing the Tennent Trail and got back to car around
1pm, including doing bushfold view, walking directly down Mt Tennant.
Getting higher and tougher....

Thanks Tankengine. Great series! A very tough, challenging and rewarding hike. I'll write my full log on Number #21.
