Last one of the day for me here and a pretty sweet spot to stop for a bit of lunch. No trouble with the turn off thanks to alpenmilch80 pointing it out on the way to B.A.S.E and so on the return leg we went off the main trail to a more suitable lunch spot than we would have had at the other one.
Cache in good nick, so was the view and lunch was ace as well. Awesome spot - TFTC

Yay ,,,,,glad to make this special high elevation cache my number 3,333rd Find !
Was out with my OAC tramping group today ,,,, not quite sure which route the leader was taking us on , but loaded a few caches on my phone in case !
Really enjoyed seeing the nearby Maori caves !
Then we backtracked and went to on up to the lookout .....I turned on my phone and they cache was a few steps away ! Got my muggle mates looking, and with the easy clue and Linda spotted it !
( I was also surprised by the Screwdriver in the concrete/rock ! )
Thanks Greenblat !

Rustynz and I had a plan to go investigating. I picked her up and we ended up at the carpark on Karamatura stream. We had in mind heading up Fletchers track with a view to getting 'Flax' then 'Drum' caches then some exploration of other areas. The climb up to here looked ominous, was arduous and constant, but no worries to two very fit and keen cachers! We ambled up the track, it got considerably steeper as we went but we were almost there.
After 'Flax' rusty said there was a likely looking track nearby that could lead to this cache, I thought I had a track spotted but it was a dud but her choice turned out to be where we needed to be! Well spotted! I took necessary WP's - just in case - as we strode down this track, we knew were going OK with all the markers on the trees. It wasn't long before we came to GZ and the fabulous view! Rusty and I did a high-five and were rather chuffed with ourselves. Astounding view alright, certainly one of the best I have seen. I took a panoramic foto, will post it when I can. Spotted the screwdriver, how mysterious is that being here! Then rusty + I made our way outta there! Cheers Alan for the cache.

This is the reason we are on the Fletcher track today! with a bit of homework I picked a trail to get us to GZ. With markers lighting our way, once we went off trail, it was a matter of following breadcrumbs left by previous visitors. Gorby took waypoints to help with the navigation back to the track, which was good to refer back to, to keep us on the path and not to deviate too far.
Once at "The Drum" with a look for the hint item we soon had the cache and the log book signed. Amazing view from here, would not want to be here on a windy day! Its a crazy weather day in Auckland, you could see suburbs bathed in sunshine and rain. Its been a few hours, we walked out back the way we came, down the Fletcher track. Already I am thinking of the next adventure on the Fletchers track. Thanks for the hide

Out for the day with lokky1! We started heading to flax but then realised we needed to detour to here! Not sure where the 'track' is so we made our own! Not the most direct route but it got us here in the end! Nice spot for a rest!
Despite doing Fletcher Track frequently, this was my first time going out to the Drum. Fun
Plans where made last night for Kohukohunui but the weather forecast pictured another picture in the morning. We decided to safe this tramp for another sunnier day with the hope that the goats will have survived the war and come out again to play. My muggle friend wasn’t too happy about going off trail but I ensured her that it will have track-markers (and indeed I didn’t lie). At GZ we had an awesome view of a rainbow brightening up the dull day. TFTC
Spectacular views ....definitely worth the hike. Easy to find once looking in the right place TFTC
Initially left Fletchers track a little low to sidle around but soon got tired of fighting the supplejack. Changing course a little bit and intersected the well defined marked track. From there it was a quick trip up to the cache spot. Wow, what a fantastic spot. Amazing views. TFTC!
I surmised the track to the Drum from Fletchers would follow the ridge line, which I identified using Google Earth in '3D' mode.
But instead of proceeding further up Fletchers I cut across the little gully from the hairpin in the track below the 'Flax' cache. Easy going and soon gained the ridge opposite to pick up the trail leading to the cache location, which opened out to a great view.
Coming back I stuck to the ridge line to emerge on Fletchers well above my starting point.
Great little adventure, cheers!

Out on a sedate caching drive today. .the walk to the drum being a little challenging but very scenic and interesting. What a wonderful and probably quite undiscovered point to sit and contemplate...the blue screwdriver in the concrete glowed like it was happy to have some company..despite the man competition to yank it from its peaceful gz haha thanks..very enjoyable cache
Heading by with vistra and lochnessmonsta.. plotted what looked like a logical topographical route over the terrain and rapidly discovered plenty others had also seen the logic... there goes the pleasurable of the bush bash we were looking for...ah well never mind...the view was worth it...all though we reckon the blue screw driver maybe the rock face separation lever.. it kinda lit up when we touched it... or was that just because it was sir vistra?
I was supposed to be on a group hike of the area today, but this was cut short due to an illness. But alligatorsnz, lochnessmonsta and I decided we would still head up to the Drum and knock off a couple of caches. After the short sharp climb to FLAX, we continued on to the Drum - heading off into the unknown, but quickly finding the marked trail all the way to GZ! The cache was soon found and log signed, before my focus shifted to the blue screwdriver and doing my best King Arthur impression tried to pull it out of the stone, but without success! A great spot here, with fantastic views on this lovely winters day! TFTC - Fav point added!
Found in the company of the owner. Stunning views (of the Skytower ) and some interesting historical graffiti. Thanks
Another great excursion off the main track. A brilliant day for views, and so silent today! T4TC - M@
Oh, what an awesome spot, but what the hell is the concreted screwdriver and bottle opener thing about? Odd place for such a memorial, but I can guess that it must have made sense at the time.
On a hike today with my daughter to pick up some of these recent caches in the Waitaks. It was a brilliant, high-viz day but the trail up was a bit of a mud fest. All the more fun. We took a semilogical turnoff for this cache and intersected a trail soon enough. After that, it was a walk of faith, then BAM! The view opens up. Fun experience and a great place for a cache. Highly recommended. Fave point for sure! Cheers for the cache.

Headed into the hills with rosmar to attempt three new high terrain caches above the Karamatura Valley. I used various topo map sources to plot what I thought would be the best approach, and my waypoints were spot on here, taking us exactly along the secret path. A great spot for the final, and just a little mild vertigo taking the last few steps to the view point at the end. After taking care of the cache formalities, this was a good spot to stop for some brunch and then to ponder whether we were going to go back up to have another go at B.A.S.E after we got some encouragement via phone from the cache owner. Beautiful view indeed! Joint FTF with rosmar - FTF #1380 TFTC!!!
We received a call from FMZ to see if we were keen on another trek into the Waitakere's in an attempt to claim the FTF for several new cache placements. We approached this cache from Mt Donald McLean Rd taking the Mt Donald McLean Track then turning onto Fletcher Track. FMZ had researched the best entry point from the Fletcher Track from which to approach this cache. As it turned out he was spot on so we were able to make a relative easy walk out to GZ. As we arrived at GZ the track got reasonably close to the step drop off so we were a little anxious as we searched for the cache. It didn't take too long to locate the cache and sign the blank log book. Joint FTF with FMZ. . We took the opportunity for a bite to eat while admiring the awesome views from GZ. TFTC & the cache pin. Favourite point from us.
Was present when the cache was placed.
Great bush bash trip with rewarding views.
Just follow you nose ..... and watch the end.
