Did the legwork and arithmetic earlier in the week, and took time to pick up the final after the Leap Day event. Thanks for an enjoyable cache.

A great informative and fun multi. We enjoyed the walk and finding answers. Thanks for a great hint at final. Thanks for this multi snd the cache daywalk. A fav from us, awesome Oak trees.

Nearly made a royal blue of this one. After wandering about the gardens and uni (both of which are very lovely) I found myself at gz unable to find the cache. Gave up, sat down, messaged CO to check I was on the right spot, and stood up to leave. But I had that one last look before leaving and there it was. Small whoop, signed log, and headed off to motel for a sleep.

An interesting multi, TFTC. Particularly apt how the plaque to Charles and Diana’s marriage is almost completely buried now

November is a busy month in most people's lives, second only to December I suspect. Teachers are very busy at this time as we begin assessing and writing school reports.

This probably explains why we have so many dot days in November and December! So the mission this year is to beat the COVID blues and the report writing mania by taking time out to fill dot days in the evenings.

Enjoyed a lovely stroll around the university this morning. The big majority of students have finished their exams and are away from the campus. This is a lovely asset to the city and I always enjoy to admire the grand old buildings.
Thanks for bringing me back here.
quickly spotted the final location

Needed the hint as phone did not like the close buildings. Some fine trees on this adventure and a nice but if history. Thanks.

Checked logbook today. Fabulous Freemans have not found the final - probably they intended to post a note that they went to a waypoint? Log deleted.

Out and about today for some caching. Had our family xmas a few days ago before we left home so today was just us. Decided to hit central Dunedin today as figured there would be less people around. The only people we did seem to hit was a couple of Chinese tour groups.

After spending the morning wandering the Botanic Gardens collecting info for multis and lab caches it was time for some lunch and waiting out the shower of rain that had hit just as we found the last cache. Headed over to the final two wp's for this cache and at first couldn't find the items for one of them. Finally spotted it and headed off to the next one. Waypoints done and cache was soon found. tftc

New Zealand is under Level 4 lockdown from today for at least a month, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

I am disabling all my caches for the meantime to remind people that we MUST break the chain of infection.

Covid-19 is now being spread within the community, person to person. We know that the virus will remain on surfaces like metal and plastic for up to 4 days.

We have only one chance to stop the Covid-19 virus spreading further. This is to BREAK the chain of infection by keeping each household separated completely. During this time each of us MUST keep isolated and only share with the people in our own household.

The best advice is to act as though you are infected... which you might be. We know there are cases in Dunedin... I might be infected and so might you.

If you touch a cache container, you will leave viruses on the plastic, logbook and pen. Those will remain infectious for up to 4 days. Suppose some other person finds the cache tomorrow. They are likely to pick up those viruses and will get infected.

Playground equipment is out of bounds for exactly that reason- touching surfaces can spread infection.

Each of us has to do our bit to save lives. If the Covid-19 virus spreads, a lot of us will die. Maybe your grandmother, or my friend who has just had a bone-marrow transplant.

Stay home, stay safe, let's get to the other side of the pandemic before we go geocaching again.

I started this multi back in October but only did the botanical garden waypoints that day. I was at the uni today doing a couple of caches there when I remembered that this had waypoints in the area. I didn’t have my notes from the gardens but luckily I took photos of the relevant information. Once solved, the cache was quickly found and logbook signed. Tftc

#17651. Looking at our GPSr screen in central Dunedin, we saw a forest of waypoints. It was good to find some of the multi's they belong to on this trip. On New Year's Day we noticed we were near WP3. We worked out the cache it belong to, and picked up WP3 and WP4, and they (while Troodles did a bit of shopping at New World) I visited WP1 and WP2 (in the rain). We didn't get to the final on Jan 2nd, so called by on our way out of Dunedin. Quick find. TFTC.

03-Jan-20
After a couple of days in Dunedin, StreetWalkerNZ and I are heading north to Kakanui for a couple of nights. We can't leave Dunedin just yet, a bit of unfinished business to attend to.
We did the WPs in the wrong order so there was a feeling of deja vu when we worked out the final co-ords and visited GZ on our way out of town. We had walked within 5 m of this spot the other day!
Used the hint to make a quick find. Thanks for the multi and TFTC.

02-Dec-19
There's been an enquiry by a person who apparently couldn't see the Burns building bas-relief at WP4. It is there of course - stylised human figures. outside the first floor, above the bike stands, behind the trees. Walk close and count the panels. It can't be seen using Google Streetview...

TFTC! Lovely wander though gardens!

24-Aug-19
A lovely sunny day out hunting with Trailrunner01 and my first ever multi-cache. Unfortunately we ended up doing quite a few steps to find this cache, probably would have been smarter if we did the waypoints in order. TFTC.

24-Aug-19
A beautiful winter's day (positively warm at times!) and a friend in town meant an opportunity to tackle some caches that have been on the list for some time. This multi was first on the list. The waypoints were found quickly, and the cache even more quickly. I never knew that the original Botanic Gardens area was in what is now 'studentville'. Thanks for the interesting, fun and informative cache daywalk.

23-Jun-19
An easy puzzle to solve on a very cold morning. Out for a drive with KJR to find a few. TFTC

In Dunedin for a spot of work - and what better way to fill in time then an hours of geocaching. T4tc

I gathered the required numbers from the first two waypoiints last Sunday while visiting the gardens. Completed the last two today. Another interesting multi thanks daywalk. TFTC # 13,598

Weekday, but nobody around - I guess the secret is to stay away from the “changeover” time.
I had gathered some of the info for this late last year, but no idea what happened to it so I started again a few days ago when I was gathering info for some other Multis.
Thanks for your effort with the details and the cache, daywalk. I am trying to get a streak of Multis going for an obscure Challenge in Europe... fell over after 14 days a few weeks ago.

First finder of the year, apparently! Always fun to look at some big trees, even if they're non native. Final was in great shape. Thanks for placing this!

Had solved this a few months ago so today was in the area nice and early and therefore not many muggles around at all. A nice quick find. TFTC

03-Apr-18
Returned during the semester break to complete this cache -we'd been in the right place before but focused on the wrong end, once had flipped around managed to piece it together and find the cache and sign - thankfully the interested dog heeded his owner so didn't have to explain self! TFTC #123

01-Apr-18
Found the first two points ages ago, only grabbed the others and the final today. Learned a lot from this cache.

16-Mar-18
Checked logbook today. Blue1eagle did not find Royal Oak on 15 April - I think perhaps he found one of the trads in the Botanic Gardens but accidentally logged the Royal Oak instead.

Later- Have messaged, he replied saying he was on a tour bus, there were cyclists around and he didn't have time to sign the log (!) but he loved the gardens.

RuruNZ found Royal Oak with taikahine, log dated 24/1/18, but seems to have forgotten to log online

04-Jan-18
I don't usually do multis as they are too much work and the final is usually missing. We had breakfast by the first stage of this one so what the hell! First two stages were easy but needed a bit of a detour (still very pleasant) to grab the last two. A lot of building work around the final waypoint had me having to thry three or four approaches before I finally made it around the houses. A short walk and a quick find at the final. Nice multi and a good final. TFTC.

17-Dec-17
Well, this one took a while. Started off the day with the first waypoint for this cache, but had trouble with the younger oak plaque... hmm, how covered up is it? Anyway, I walked over to Otago U to complete the rest of the WPs and computed the final. I was very amused at where the cache worked out to be at. Ah, you are very cheeky with the listing! Anyway, signed myself in just before lunch before completing one more Multi. TFTC!

Completed this multi over a few sessions. It turns out that one waypoint is currently inaccessible thanks to construction work but using the checksum I was able to get some coordinates. I didn't trust them at first but I had a crack at them this afternoon, and... well, sometimes your instincts can be wrong. Cache is in good nick and in a good hiding spot. Cheers!

20-May-16
Had a lovely walk around yesterday but too busy at final so came back this morning while it was raining and Saturday morning so not many people around

17-May-16
Completed the waypoints yesterday and picked up the cache just now on the way to class!!!! Never knew there was an original botanic gardens...interesting! TFTC Big Grin

15-Mar-16
Good news! Checked cache today and... the original cache was lying on the ground beside the hide, all in good order. Possibly a person found it, checked to see it was permitted and returned it? We may never know... But it's back in place and all go again!

18-Feb-16
Checked final today, intending to add some more swaps.

Sadly, the final cache has been taken - and we know that this happened within the last 9 days. There were several small scraps of torn paper with typewritten French lying on the ground within a foot of the cache hide but nowhere else in the area. Am very much hoping this is not an indication of who's responsible, and that this is a one-off problem.

Have temporarily replaced final with a micro in the same place. Will replace with a proper cache in a month, if there are no further problems.

Travel GPS Geocoin visited!

09-Feb-16
With three of the waypoints visited since our arrival in this Fair City, a quick check of the numbers yielded a number already in excess of the checksum; after a quick discussion with the CO, who confirmed the numbers after their trademark gentle guidance - once again, 39% in School Certificate Mathematics comes back to haunt Mr Rex - it was off to the final waypoint (even though it could have been worked out from there, it was still nice to see the plaque), some more mathletics (eeek!), then a pleasant stroll to the well-hidden final. Thanks (again) for your patience, as well as the smiley, daywalk Smile

29-Dec-15
This multi caught our eye yesterday when we had lunch in the garden. Got one wp then and another while doing a laundry this morning. Got the bikes out and SL this afternoon. Interesting wp's and description. Terrific photos. Nicely planned multi which we could have done more efficiently but we enjoyed making it a journey. NINO TFTC

22-Dec-15
Checked today. 'Le Fils du Dieu' has claimed a find online (logged online 14 Dec 2015, at the same time as they claimed online finds for Northern Cemetery Heritage, Dunedin Views, NZ's First Botanic Garden , Buttit's Muddy and Upper Gardens). Disappointing to see that 'Le Fils du Dieu' has not signed the logbook.

12-Dec-15
After a local event decided need to do more of the multis. Forgot today was graduation day so felt like I stood out a bit in the gym gear... at least the final was nicely out of sight.
Great hiding spot not sure how you came across it.
Log and container in good condition. Took coin.

10-Dec-15
This is the first multi stage cache I've done and definitely the hardest. If ur a newb like me set aside a couple hours for this one... Awesome hide, and the best travel bug I've found (I've taken it), thx heaps! Smile

09-Dec-15
Was hoping it would be more centralized around the Botanic Gardens but still a great cache. Unfortunately the Burns building was not open (I don't know if I was there after hours or it was locked because it was undergoing construction) but with some simple maths was able to figure out "Z" and find the cache.

09-Dec-15
The bas-relief panels you need to count for Z are on the outside of the Burns building and visible looking up from the paving outside - no need to go inside the building. That checksum does give a get-out-of-jail-free card if any one checkpoint is inaccessible!

03-Dec-15
TFTC.

02-Nov-15
Perfect day to be walking around the gardens and uni. Found quickly after some reassurance from CO that I did indeed have the correct final co-ords. TFTC

27-Oct-15
I did the ground work a few months ago and now I decided to finish it off. A quick look at my figures showed that I had put one in the wrong place which I fixed before setting off. I looked at the appropriate tree and though, no way but upon walking aroung to the other side sure enough there was a big enough hidey hole. I then went on to check out the final of "Otago University" but there were too many people around and after been asked by a student if I needed any help I though that it was time to come back another day.

18-Feb-15
Found the waypoints on two successive visits, interleaving the first couple with finding the waypoints for First Botanic Garden. Arrived at GZ one sunny afternoon, to find it populated by a group of 'freshers' acquainting themselves with their new campus. Took their photo and they scooted off looking for other places to explore, leaving me to head for GZ. Soon realised that I was on the wrong side, so approached from the correct entrance but, not having read the explicit directions on the cache page, (too far away on my tablet), got hung up on the fossil lying on the ground (and no, I do not mean an aged professor!).

Returned after my stint at Clubs and Socs Day, drumming up support for (removed by censors) Club, and started from a slightly different direction and soon had the cache in hand. Thanks, daywalk, for yet another interesting tour of Dunedin's history.

TNLN. TFTC.

A great little summer wander. It fitted in perfectly with an evening picnic in the gardens! TFTC

#970 Lot of bounce at final but then thought logically. Took a while to finish this one as I had to return to Wellington last summer and leave it unfinished. All done now. TFTC

We enjoyed this one, and learnt several things, not the least of which is that the Botanic Gardens had begun somewhere else. Cool

03-Aug-14
Whiskasnz and I spent the afternoon caching around the northern end of Dunedin. This one had been on my 'to do' list for a while and today was the perfect day. We gathered all the answers at each waypoint and then headed towards GZ. I love this spot, it's one of my favourites in the area. The cache was safely tucked away. We dropped off a TB, hopefully it will move on shortly. TFTC, gets a fav point from us.

03-Aug-14
Mum and I did some caching today and Mum really wanted to do this one. It took a wee while to get all the numbers but it took us to the perfect final spot. TFTC

29-Jan-14
Had some time to fill in before a hospital appointment so headed to the gardens to collect the vital information. We walked to the campus area and looked at all the work being done around the Leith and expected to find the seat within the taped area. Much to our relief it was accessible. We asked a campus security man where to find the Burns building and he escorted us there! With all the numbers gathered we did the calculation and realised something was wrong. Wandercat checked everything and found her error and not long afterwards we were signing the log. Enjoyed the challenge. TFTC

29-Jan-14
Found with ajbenn. Walked this one from start to finish and definitely felt better for the exercise. Appreciate the high standard of the entry in geocaching.com. What a wealth of information. Thanks for setting a very high standard. Enjoyed finding the information ...it made us really look at our surroundings.

Lovely day for a bike/walk. quickly found waypoints the the gps was all over the place due to buildings but a great wee hidey hole Found with jrb5050 TFTC

05-Dec-13
Apart from a bit of discord with my caching buddy, PC Sniff, about appropriate places for walking rather than bike riding, this was the perfect cache. Lovely sunny day, wonderful locations to visit and then a bit of a challenge to find the final because (1) we misread one of the mathematical instructions (maths teachers mis-read rather than mis-calculate) and (2) GPS was bouncing around a bit. Eventually we were able to zero in on the correct spot and PC Sniff nabbed the cache while I kept watch for muggles. Thanks for giving us a nice summer adventure with your placement of this multi.

26-Nov-13
Another lunch time escape today, and another great daywalk adventure! This one is a great little tour, through a nearly deserted uni, then onto the Botanic gardens (knowing I was doing it backwards, but coming from work)!
No trouble with any of the info, and a quick and easy bit of figuring, and the final cords were in hand. Thanks for the great multi!
