Quick trip ip to the Nelson area, with a wee bit of caching in between, many thanks for the caches . - Bitsprayer
Found the cache lying out in the open so replaced it where we thought it should be. All good now. TFTC.
Found with NZDi. Our extended whanau including Nannie (NZDi), Poppa (Kiwimykl), son, daughter-in-law and three grand daughters, daughter, son-in-law and grandson (KiwiNate2020) were camping at Quinney's Bush camp ground which is an annual pilgrimage we have been doing for seven years now. Something that started when we only had one grand daughter. This is a family holiday, so geocaching is strictly limited. We did the Spooners Tunnel Adventure Lab cache the other day during a family outing, but today NZDi and I have set aside a morning of geocaching without the rest of the family. Of course, being our seventh year camping in the area, means we have to go further afield to find greenies with pretty much everything between Wai-iti and Tapawera already converted to yellow. It was originally our intention to head up the Tadmor Valley towards Glenhope and see how far we could get in half a day, but during my research, I discovered a Challenge cache we both qualified for in the Motueka Valley, so with that as our main target we headed in that direction.
This was our ninth find of the morning and it was not our intention to come up this road, but after caching for an hour and a half along the Motueka Highway getting eight caches out of nine searched for, we didn't realise it would only take 10 minutes to get back to Tapawera. So we had a bit of time up our sleeve so came along here for a quick and dirty half dozen. It would appear as though the forest Service was a large employer in the region wit the vast complex near GZ. It seems such a waste that most of the complex is no longer used except to hide a cache that was a QEF PnG.

I decided on a drive along this road to get a few caches. This was my first stop. It would have taken a lot less time if I had expanded my search right away. TFTC.
Each time I've passed there's always been someone near GZ but today it was just me! Thanks holymu, a quick find. Cache is in good order.
Glad to see the place has a bit of life in it and not gotten demolished. Cheers
Quick and easy find just before the imposing signs signalling private property and security cameras in action. Interesting spot - looked mostly unused to my eyes. Nice cache idea. TFTC Holymu.
Driving home from Brightwater today, my only goal was to get home to Blenheim for a physio appointment at 4.30. So I decided to go inland, and a slightly different route to the other week. Kohatu, Tapawera and Glenhope were on the radar - don’t think I have ever been to the last one, and Tapawera maybe just the once. So a cruisy drive and not the last one on this route - those that looked like a bit of a trek or that had muggles nearby can wait for next time. Caches found were all in good shape. Thanks all COs.

Due to NZ being at Alert level 4 and some people insisting on continuing to geocache and put others at risk I am disabling my caches until such time as it's safe to resume this activity.
Any logs I receive for finds during this time will be deleted. I don't care anymore about YOUR safety than you obviously do but I do care very much about others and want them to be safe so please do NOT look for any of my caches while they are disabled.
In the meantime, there's always plenty of puzzles to be solved or created but above all PLEASE STAY SAFE EVERYONE!

Was a little exposed and what an HQ this must have been in it's day, logged and tucked under with an additional rock for security. TFTC
Exploring Tapawera today. Parked the car up by the railway museum and walked around with the dog. Amazing what buildings make it into tiny towns. Thanks for the cache and 1.11 km towards the DGSc distance challenge.
Staying at the Music in the Mountains caravan rally this cache was the fifth closest to where my caravan was parked. But it was too hot (30C or very close to it) to walk anywhere at 12:30pm so I used my bike to reach this and all the other caches down on the flatlands. As there were muggles on the river bridge I rode on past the fourth closest to this cache. Nice quick find. Thanks for the placement holymu
I'm spending some time in Nelson & had decided I'd like to explore out in this direction. Never quick to start the day - so it was quite hot by the time I arrived at Tapawera.
A large, impressive building ! Thanks for placing & maintaining this cache, holymu.

I decided to do some caching today starting in Tapawera and heading out towards Glenhope.
I remember NZFS days in other parts of the country. This was a large setup.
Cheers for the cache.

Had been further up the road at a motocross event but had my own car so after watching our kids fly round the hilly track on their motobikes for a while, I slinked off to do caches on my homebound journey. Hot late afternoon easy find.
Geo cycling the GTT over 3 days, picking up caches on the way. Day 2, motueka to tapawera. Made it after 7 hours of cycling and caching. Couldn't help myself, took a 2km detour to find this before a shower then a beer. Or three
I'm catching up with my online logs. I found this one in the company of Mermaid Man - thanks very much for the cache.
Last time we were passing we had to flag this cache as the gardener was in the area. This time, possibly due to the intermittent rain, the area was clear and we made a quick find.
Never been off the main highway when out this way. Interesting spot, I'll explore more of tadmore valley another day.
Thanks very much!
Thanks very much!
Took a while to zero in, then spotted it from about 5m away. Very visible. TFTC.
TFTC! Has a lovely evening bike ride along the road from the camping ground. Awesome countryside Tapawera!
Found this cache at an unusual building on our way back to Riwaka. Thanks holymu for the cache.
I had to circle a bit to find it, but then it was a quick find.
I picked up a TB from here.
The NZ Flag geocoin was not seen.

A quick find on our way to the Wangapeka Track and Kings Creek Hut. A beautiful weekend for a tramp in the Term 3 Holidays. TFTC!
A most enjoyable day on the road, I went to some places I’ve never been to before, and revisited some I hadn't been to for a while. The weather played its part as well with a fine day. 50+ caches along the way, so all in all a super day all round. TFTC
A quick found for this one. Put our stamp in the logbook.

Out for a day's caching today, on a loop from Wakefield, through Tapawera and Dovedale.
I was amazed at the scale of this place relative to the size of the surrounding township. Reading through recent logs it seems the site (at least) is destined for new things. It will be interesting to see what develops...
Thanks

PS. Obviously the TB placed here back in 2013 is now long gone...to where? Who knows...

After spending the long weekend in Murchison, it was time to head home, so we took the scenic route . The morning started with heavy mist, but soon lifted and turned into a beautiful sunny day.
As the previous finder had noted, the area looks like it has been cleared and we could easily spot the cache in its hiding place. Gathered up some stones and other camo and hid it a little better.
Quite a few substantial buildings around here. TFTC.

#9139. Surprising to find such a substantial complex of buildings in an out of the way place. Good to see alternative uses have been found for at least some of them. TFTC.
Cache was moved as area was being cleared, but nice lady at nearby house who had it saw us looking and let us sign it and hide it again. (thank-you nice lady) TFTC.
A good hide and another nice find for Just-Lookin & I on a south island trip.
Friendly horses came over (opposite) to see what we were doing.

Found this one with MstrCam while visiting his family who now own the headquarters. We were super stoked to have one at the front door and introduced the whole family to caching!! A fine Christmas Present indeed! TFTC!!
While visiting family who now own the forestry head quarters, imagine my surprise when there is a cache outside the front door! Cache located quickly and signed. With that said the old forestry HQ is now private property
A plan was hatched to try and grab a number of caches, in excess of 120 if possible. I had already found a load between Renwick and St Arnaud but consulting the map around St Arnaud area showed some semi power trail drive by caching opportunities. Fellow Manawatu cacher the Seagnoid was asked if he was interested and a resounding yes was the answer. So the car was fuelled up at very early o'clock and provisions for munching were also loaded. An 0630 start was the plan and the day came to its conclusion around 2130 after approx. 15 hours of driving and caching.
Outcome was a very successful figure in excess of 130 caches which constitutes best day ever (for both of us), best week, month and year too. Over 500kms driven today and man I feel tired but need to make a start logging the finds, and DNFs. Thanks to all the C Os involved in making our day such a great one. Nearly all caches were well maintained, interesting and accurately plotted. There were bellbirds, beech trees, pies and water, sealed roads, gravel tracks, no sandflies (thankfully), rivers and bridges and creeks and bridges and streams and bridges and much conversation about all things caching
A great day out in good company and all made possible by the efforts of the hiders.
T F T C to all the cache owners. We mostly signed as C/S or Capp/Seag or other combos

[green] Capperz called me up saying he wanted to get his ruby Busy Cacher badge, and try for 120 caches in a day. I said YES PLEASEE!!, as I too had tried this once before but only achieved 103 before night defeated me and Edvern in Auckland last year. A successful day, with over 130 caches found in 14.5 hours and 500km. Also tiring - I went to bed as soon as I got home, despite it not being dark yet (yes, we could have cached some more, but the next objective is 180 caches, and there was no way we would have achieved that!). Alas, I had to leave all the planning to Capperz, and he produced a great little plan, listing all the target caches (and more) with which way to turn at next intersection after a cache - a great way to plan a back road travel.
The day was cool, cloudy, with a little drizzle. Perfect caching weather - the weather kept most of the muggles away from the muggle areas.
Thanks to all the COs for a great day out exploring the back roads of the Marlborough region!
Logs signed as CS or occasionally as CapSeag.
Was expecting this cache to take forever to find, but no, was found quite cuikly. thanks tot he CO for accurate coords and a decent sized cache.

On a big mission up to Nelson over Show Weekend with Purdiepurdie, Karma Reprint and Team_Gaters we signed our cache finds as PKTT the 'power packet' but we called ourselves the 'G4'. We headed off on Friday morning at 4.30am and made our way to Nelson today. We drove heaps, laughed heaps, found heaps of caches and poke our noses here and there. It was a great day we didn't stop until about 9.30pm for a cuppa and relax and getting ready to do it all again tomorrow!
Quick one... onto the next. What a funny looking building.
Thanks for the cache.

Canterbury Show Weekend so headed North to Nelson for a fun caching 3 day weekend with TheWanglers, Karma Reprint & Purdiepurdie......for speed, efficiency & to prevent RSI we signed our logs PKTT.
Bit of a scramble and cache was in hand. Weird building - looks more like an institution than a headquarters?!

TFTC. Out to play for the weekend with the destination of Nelson. Caching crew on board were Karma Reprint, Team_Gaters and TheWanglers, logged as PKTT for this trip. Gosh did we have fun looking for caches, most of which we found, in this very beautiful part of our country.
A quick park and grab at a quiet location. What do you call this style of architecture?
Thanks holymu for placing the cache.

This was one of the most epic weeks ever, and definitely my most epic caching week ever.
Me and mum headed up on a holiday north to Nelson and very wider surrounds. In total during the trip, we found almost 500 caches! (470 odd I think, but final results are yet to be in! ) We covered about 3000 odd km I think too. Crazy! And had our absolute best caching day ever too at 160 found. Spend 9 days travelling, caching, and having the best time ever!!
So sorry about not so epic logs, as otherwise this would probably take me the rest of my life to log, especially with two big events to organise coming up! Eeek!!
Almost every single log we signed as 'Team Polak' to avoid needing to write out both usernames taking up space on logsheet - as well as precious caching time!! Haha.
This was it - one of the caches on our big day

For the sake of sanity we set off with sonia26642 for a crazy geocaching trip, aiming to cache until we drop. The main destination was Nelson and the ‘surrounding’ area, but then we ended up covering a few miles in three northernmost regions, plus a few in Canterbury. We were signing/stamping the log as 'Team Polak' or ‘TP’ for the two of us on this trip to save logbook space. We found a lot of different caches, city ones, road side, park side, up a hill and on an island, and we enjoyed every single one of them. It was good to be a professional thingfinder for a few days!
Today was to be our biggest day. S planned the route to cover the most possible easy to get P&G’s but we ended up not limiting ourselves to only those. D2.5? Why not? Let the brain have a bit of fun! D3? I am sure we can get there quickly! It was completely dark by now, but that just added to the excitement of the day!
We had great fun and are grateful to all CO’s who placed caches for us to find, and help restore our sanity before returning to our other non-geocaching lives!!
Come and join us the next New Zealand geocaching MEGA event!! Register your interest now at www.nzmega2015.com to receive newsletter updates and be the first to know. It will be a great event, come and be a part of it!!

This is our first caching experience without internet access and just using the GPS function of our android phone. We're slowly getting the hang of it but we've resolved to invest in a dedicated GPS device for Christmas. We got the hang of it slowly and realised that (not for the first time) we'd parked right next to the cache. Thanks holymu!
Mrs Chrisb34 and myself drove past this spot a few weeks ago and we were wondering what the building was used for. Now we know!! Thanks for the cache Holymu!!
A quick find on the way into Tapawera for lunch. These buildings have certainly seen better days, they look quite derelict. What a waste! Signed log, TFTC
Good to see how well the state looks after the assets. Pretty sure that there could be some better use for such a building. Thanks for the cache.
Out for an afternoons caching in and around Tapawopwop. I vaguely remember when this building was a hive of activity. Pity it has run out of use.
