Today we are visiting Pukenui Forest to grab the kiwi guardian post, nice structure. Easy find at GZ, logbook was wet, it will require maintenance sometimes soon. Thanks for placing this here! We saw two tui in big discussion on the top of the track.
The male halves of Team Welsh and Kiwicouple are walking from Barge Park to 3 Mile Bush today, stopping at the S.L.T caches along the way for Kiwicouple to make the find. This was the last of the series for us today. It was nice to go out with an easy find. Thanks for the series. it was good to have these caches to mark progress along the trail.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked at the DoC Campsite at Otamure Bay for the next few days … we intended to visit the Waro Quarry Wetlands & to walk the Pukenui Forest Loop Track today … turned out to be a successful caching day … we walked the track clockwise & picked up most of the caches …all were reasonably easy finds, with logs completed & replaced … pleased to add some more 'smiley faces' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #3,033 for us.
The track this far is ok but it does get horribly worse and one needs to take care stepping over all the roots crisscrossing the track.

Last one on the loop for me, I did consider doing the number 3 one from here which I missed due to doing the extended loop but I was out of time, Mrs Geckoh was ready to come pick me up so had to high tail it out before she leaves me behind!
Quick find thanks to the good hint, been a good morning with 4hrs spent on the trot!

A quick easy find as the specimen tree was really the only one it could possibly have been in. TFTC
Onto the trail for a few and then turn around. As this was right by the Guardians Post it was an easy find whilst close by. Some of the logbooks were wet for our walk today so we signed when we could. Thanks for the trail kenny897
We had the twin boys today for our day out to Pukenui Forest and we wanted to find the Toyota Guardians plaque for their first found one. Whilst doing that we also called by and did some caching, and had a picnic lunch in the car park afterwards, nice.
Work is finished for the year and it's time to head to Northland for a few days prior to Christmas. Primarily to see our son and his partner and our grandchildren and also a bit of a beach break at the work bach. A good few days away, and a few caches found, thanks to all COs.

Found while out checking the area with the family. They enjoyed exploring this beautiful part of the country.
Third find of the day with my geocaching group from Hurupaki. Found by Boston. Log book a bit soggy. Tnlnsl. Tftc!!
Nice hiding spot. It was well hidden, intact container and left where i found it.
Thanks so much kenny897!
This is my first time walking in this great forest....and it is your geocaches which have brought me here!
Up from Auckland on a geocaching and exploring holiday.
Wow, these caches have been here a while!

NZ Iceman and I are staying in the area for the weekend and we decided to check out the forest. We were not sure if we would take the Taraire Ridge Track or the Loop Track but the decision was made for us when we turned up as the Taraire track is currently closed for maintenance. There was stream crossings, ups and downs but we had a great time!
Due to the Kauri Dieback and not wanting to wander off the track, we found in the obvious spot after checking the hint.
Thanks for the cache.

My friend Kelly and I both had our weekend caching plans canceled due to Auckland's covid 19 resurgence. We decided to team up today to get the new souvenirs on offer. This was our first find on the short loop track. It was an easy find and a nice track so far, thanks
10:44. After missing my weekend trip to Christchurch due to level 3 lockdown in Auckland. I hooked up with buddy to sort out the wonders of the world. It was great to be in the Bush and challenging my fitness to walk the shorter of the loop tracks. It was a long day but nice to accomplish all the souvenirs today. Tftc
We went for a little stroll with family plus cousin Andrew. Very pleased to find
Nice find with woolwood9 while on holiday in the area.

A walk with family friends through Pukenui Forest on a hot New Year's Day. We didn't get much further than this cache before the kids melted down and we all headed back to the carpark. How to return another day and get some more of the series. Thanks!
Such a lovely day for a walk, can't wait to get all the caches on this trail. TFTC
After staying the night at some friends we decided - before heading towards Auckland - to do a nice hike they adviced us. As there are a lot of caches it sounded like a perfect idea. Unfortunatily it didn't worked out that way as we didn't even found half of them. At some point we even thought about quiting the hunt as our GPS had us all over the place (deviation +50m) or the hints where clueless to us, or caches didn't seem to be there when hints couldn't be misunderstood. Luckely we managed to find some caches during the end of our hike…
Didn't even look at my GPS here anymore, started using my mobile. Henit helped.

Took kids out for Pukenui Forest adventure. Decided to get this GC. Kids got this one nice & quick. TFTC
Decided to do the short loop track with the kids - Went the opposite way knowing the track and where the hills are. A nice easy find at the start of the walk with the kids. Tftc.
A nice early morning walk to grab a few caches in this wonderful reserve ....the storm had blown through last night and there was a lot of debris around as a result....the cache was found quickly all in good condition ...thanks kenny897 for the great placement ...I will return one day to complete the rest of the series
The track here is fantastic and beautiful. We probably shouldn't have been in the bush today with the storm and wind but it was quite sheltered. We had walked in to find the puzzle cache and "Just one more". The clue made the find simple. Log was damp but writeable. Thanks for the placement kenny897
I'm travelling around NZ for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my guidebook. I was fortunate to be invited to stay with thegreatauk for a couple of days, but today it was time to leave, there's still so much to see in NZ. We were just gonna find a few caches in the morning before I left. Well, geocaching takes time, so I had to stay one more night, to avoid Auckland rush-hour. I'm not at all sorry for that, then thegreatauk and me could find even more geocaches together in the afternoon, and I could have another evening of talking with his lovely mother.
In the afternoon we decided to do the Pukenui-forest, but we miscalculated the time, so we had to skip lots of caches at the end, just to get out of the forest before it got too dark. We tought it would take us approximately 3 hours, but we spent 4,5 hours in the forest. At least we got a nice hike there, and we got the fantastic bonus-cache at the end.
About this cache:
Thanks to the good hint, this was a quick find. Tftc, greetings from Norway

Started our trek today on the short track. Started well with nice dry and groomed trail. It gradually got less groomed, less dry and in fact was quite wet slippery and in some places quite challenging. Found the cache mostly with the help of the hint as coords in the bush were challenging and leaving us some distance from GZ. Damp log but managed to sign it.
On my journey from Russell to Warkworth, I wanted to break the journey by looking for some caches. I decided to take a little detour and visit this forest. I wasn't prepared at all to do some hiking, so after 3 of these caches I found out that the path was going further down than I expected and that I didn't wear the right shoes for this kind of trail, so I returned to the car. I did find 3 of the caches, though. In 2 of them I put a new paper to log on, as the existing logbooks were soaked. Thanks for hiding and showing!
spent four and a half hours caching the Longer of the loop tracks, went clockwise as sign posted and for the majority of the walk heard the sound of cicadas, with a few tuis near the end. The longer loop track is not as well maintained as the shorter loop and it appears that we have 2 more days of this forest to do to get all the remaining caches. (need to do the remainder of the S L T and walk fro the dam to barge park). what a great afternoon out with some awesome caches on this trail, and also the chance to do 2 puzzles, made for a awesome day. This was 14 out of 16 collected in the forest today.
Daughter back from Welly for Xmas, so decided to walk off lunch by doing the Pukenui circuit and picking up a few caches.
A quick find with the good clues.

Decided today to do the Pukenui Forest Loop track- was such a beautiful walk. Heard and saw a lot of Tui's and other native birds which was so nice! The track was really muddy in places and then on my way out I can into a DOC worker who was closing sections of the tracks for upgrades.
Cache was soon in hand- log a bit soggy and probably needs replacing once the track fully reopens. TFTC

Thought we'd head out for another training run with packs before winter sets in, and tackle the loop track finding caches on the way. Nice easy find.
We walked this very nice trail today and it took us more than 4 hours but we very much enjoyed it.
We found all the caches on the trail except nr. 1
Most logrols are wet
After the not found we did find this one

Team Welsh was sensible by wearing gumboots I just had my sneakers... i decided the best thing was to just walk through the water - wet feet, oh joy. Nice quick find thanks.
The rain had stopped, the sun was out (sort of) and we had been in the car for a while so off we ventured. The track was very wet in places and although I had the gumboots, Pagenz ended up with very wet shoes. Managed to find all the caches in the series and back to the car by 7:30pm for some well earned dinner and a glass of wine. Many thanks for all these caches, a great place to come.
It was a lovely winters day today and I was in need of a hike, so I decided to set out for Pukenui Forest - a walk that I last did some 30 years ago as a child! It's a lovely piece of bush this and down by the stream is particularly pleasant. I managed to find all caches in the series and all but one of them were nice quick finds due to good hints! Thanks for placing the series!
#2 for todays adventure into Pukenui Forest with the Mob. Mini Mob leading the way with the GPS but cache slightly above his head height!! TFTC.
Another caching mission with the Jordan Five to help them get a feel for this geocaching game. This mission will include their first puzzle cache and some great camo forest caches. Unfortunately not many "swaps" caches for the Jordan twins to ferret through on this trip.
The Pukenui Forest small loop track is a great family walk that takes 3 hours 30 minutes according to the DoC sign; the 8 of us which included the Jordan twins took about 4 hours which including all the SLT series.

Another nice easy one to get the track off to a good start.
A few lean-to have been built nearby.
Oh goodness me did I not expect this to take so long, Started here, then followed correctly then headed up the way to the Nowhere tree, back and then continuing on to number 5 then once finished this track, the Bonus, which proved a tad tricky. The track took me 5 hours to complete including the side path.

Neat to be out wandering this loop track with great company after the heavy Rain has passed. Another smilie as we move along.
After the heavy rain the track was slippery and very wet in places but the group of cache hunters decided to seek out the 11 caches on the Pukenui Forest small loop track. This was the second in the series to be found. TFTC.
(685) Pick this one up while out walking the short loop with some like minded cache hunters. Thanks for the company and thanks for the cache.
Thought I had another FTF-another disappointment.Great cache-enjoying the walk so far.
