A nice discovery. Thought the track would by out of bounds due to Kauri Dieback (tree disease) but found correct path.
Great little spot have driven past there for years but never stopped there. Thanks for sharing the history. Geocaching exactly where you said it would be.
It was interesting to learn about the background to this spot.. Found it after a couple of wrong turns..
I started out on the Parau trail, but then reread the description and corrected my mistake. When at the pad, I had to think about which direction to look to make the hint work. Once my GPSr settled down a bit, I got to the right spot and spotted the hinted-at hiding spot. TFTC.

We decided to go and find this one as we had some spare time, before heading for work. It was bit tricky to find the right path especially with the warning signs o the gate. However we managed to get there and find the cache. tftc.

Awesome. Our 1st hunt and what a way to stay. About 10m up from the pad on the left
This was the final day of our New Years stay at Huia Lodge which we had to vacate by 10am, so we were on the road heading for home and this cache was on the way home... headed to the pad the long way around but got there in the end.... the find was made ...

I was staying at the nearby Huia Lodge over the New Year period with some fellow caching members (or "Team SEAC"- South East Auckland Crew- as we call ourselves when we are caching together, which is often!).
Today was the day when our holiday had come to an end- we had packed, cleaned and left Huia Lodge, and the NewlynFam team went in convoy with the Stik-a-Crane team. We decided that we weren't in any hurry to get home, and may as well find a few caches on the way before stopping for a picnic lunch. This suited me perfectly as I needed a cache in order to maintain my daily streak, as required by my current GIO-Licence stage.
Parked in the carpark and wandered into the bush. We made the mistake of not reading the cache page, so we got within about 20m of the cache, then wandered up and down,, wondering why we weren't getting any closer. THEN we spotted the other parh from where we were- oh. Duh.
Once that situation was rectified, and we were on the RIGHT path, getting to GZ was a piece of cake. I was suffering from cache blindness becasue I stopped next to it, declared that I was 1m away, and then for some reason didn't even stop to look, but continued on, looking for other likely spots. It was Mrs Stik-a-Crane who got to where I had just been standing next, laughed at me and said that she could see the cache from where she was. Whoops
Cache retrieved and log signed as the juniors hunted through the swag. Cache was quite exposed when we found it, so we hid it a bit better with more natural camo- hope it doesn't blow off!

We had been staying at Huia Lodge over new years and today we needed to head home in order to start work again tomorrow. We parked up and spent some time ooohhhing and aaahhhhing over the mother duck and her ducklings nearby before heading off to get the cache. We got close but not close enough, then read the cache page, backtracked and attacked the entrance to the cache from another angle. Once we got to the concrete pad of nothing, we knew we were close, and from there we could see the cache, but needed to back-track a little again to find the right path to get the cache. Found with darthcacher1, purply and NZTravellers.
Staying at Huia with Team SEAC over the New Years break.
We were leaving today so did a few caches as we were leaving the area.
Initially made the wrong approach to GZ here and got close but it all looked far to difficult until another read of the description put us right.
Back tracked and made a different approach and soon found the "concrete pad" even then had to make a slight detour to eventually claim the cache.

On our way to the Xmas get together at Cornwallis. Took a wee while, apparently we weren't on the right track here. Found eventually. Nice bush walk. SL. TFTC.
This was an easy find once we followed the instructions on how to get to GZ. A curious spot - there was some signs of people visiting here including broken terracotta tiles that I wondered whether were going to be used for a campfire. Still noone around so we could have a quick look for the cache. Easy to find so we dropped some swag we picked up at a previous cache since there was room. TFTC.
Well that is an interesting lesson. I lived in Parau for 15 years and walked most of the walks around here, but never knew of this little spot. TFTC
Found after a wee fish of Cornwallis. ... no fish today, just a coupla caches..... tftc
We were out for a drive today to find a place to go for a bit of a walk. We ended up here and I took the opportunity to grab this cache, even though we decided to actually go and walk somewhere else. There was no one around, so we headed out and I soon spotted the cache and signed the log, even if when I walked to the car I realised I could not have written the date any more wrong. I thought it was the 8th, but of course it was the 9th, then I realised that I had also put 08/03/16, opps, wrong month too. There was an odd circle of stones on the concrete and it makes me wonder what is going on here, are they looking at building something? TFTC #540
Followed the instructions up to the concrete pad and soon spotted the cache. Old rerouted track? TFTC!
Never would have known about this quaint spot if not for geocaching..nice rash one for the kids
#11707. Thanks for the detailed access instructions; without them we'd no doubt have ended up on the wrong side of the barbed wire fence. An interesting wee area. TFTC.
We are back in Auckland for a few days and a visit to Titirangi and Huia was on the to do list. We were a little slow getting started this morning, as I spent a while researching the caches we would be looking for. Of course, solved puzzles were high on the list!
An interesting, tucked away spot. Thanks for the information on how to access else we may never have got to GZ. Quick find in the end. TFTC.

Such a random little spot that i have driven past so many times and never new was hidden away there! made my way to the concrete pad and then the GZ and made a quick find! TFTC
Note to self, read cache description before doing setting off! We also didn't read the description and merrily set off up the wrong track til we realised we would have to bush bash. So we returned to the beginning, found the right track and followed it to the concrete pad of nothing. I saw the cache on approach as it was out in the open so added some natural camo to hide it a little better. Great to see such a big cache too.
Had I read description properly this would have been quicker [|)], but geodogs were happy to go the long way. tftc
Oh yes, we too went barging up the Parau Track without reading the directions first! Will we ever learn? (Probably not)
Once we went back to the beginning and got ourselves on the right track, things proceeded a lot more smoothly. Tftc:-)

My dad and I had just gone to look at the caves at Whatipu (some great views!) and decided to give this one a try on the way back. Took us a minute to find the right path, but then it was a quick find. TFTC.
Found it eventually after going up parau track, should of read discription properly. Lol nice walk. Tftc
Thankfully we had done our homework on this cache, so locating it was no problem. TFTC
Don't be like us and cut throught the left track, be smarter. Nice walk, cool little off road adventure
hmm a wee bit off bush crashing to get to this lol, interesting little spot had me going in circles for a bit with nothing decided a different tack was needed and using clue cache was found quickly, and was surprised at the size, TFTC
Strange wee place - someone has been making circles with terracotta? Kids found it was a good adventure
Nice find. Not sure if I could go there. The sign said "keep clear at all times" . But what the hell.
My second attempt, this time without my gps and and got it straight away-dont know how I missed it!
Out on a caching walk/drive with vistra and alligatorsnz. Not too far to stroll in the chilly sunshine to find this rather big cache. Found a ring of crockery...perhaps summoning the caching gods for inspiration? Thanks !
Side track on the way they target. .cant be a well used track with that lecel of camo lol..mind u a good distraction at gz that may as well have been camo lol.. no advertised tb present
Headed out to Huia today to close a few gaps in my cache finds out here. Started up the wrong track, then turned back to look for a way though the T-trees. Found a pseudo-trail towards the concrete pad and spotted a person near GZ. Oh, crap--I've been spotted. The fellow asks me if I'm looking for the geocache, which of course, I was. Much to my relief, it was the CO, Mr Damhouse, himself! Good to meet you. We had a good chat about some local attractions and an old-timey mining experience near greymouth that I'll have to put on my to-do list. Cheers for the cache.

Plan is to go our west and visit nearby caches and do some puzzles. This is the first. Entered from the right side, found the concrete pad, and then made our way to GZ. Clever hide, urbangypsy found it, thanks again for the cache.

Did not see was temporarily disabled until came to log, but track was open and clear, no problem whatsoever. The size of the container made it an easy find, laughed when opened up and found some glasses in it, you would need these if you could not find it. Again more history I did not know of who needs google when you have geocaching. Met a muggle and his dog on way back, he was saying the council had permission to turn the area into an organic tip, he was hoping that due to the time frame the permission may be outdated here is hoping that it never happens!!!! Thank you for sharing this with me.
On a geocaching mission and this is no #1 Parked in nearby car park, came in from the right driveway. Whilst you could see a storm had been in the area, we made our way to GZ with no problems. Found the concrete pad of something? and tried to imagine when it was used as a plant nursery. Thanks for the hide and bringing us here.
Tuesday night storm has felled trees across the main track so will be closed for a week max.
Quick find with a group of friends and kids. And nice to meet Supernanny and Ric1942 on the way out. TFTC!
Nice to meet other Cachers at the car park.
Good quick find. Usually going on up the track but not today. TFTC.

Exciting to see a big group of a couple of families including children going caching ! Quick find after doing 4 other local ones !
Quick find under the rain. Was explaining the game to a friend. Nice way to hook them up to it.
Out geocaching with Oneranger looked everywhere we probably went away from the cache, disappointing.
Compass needle was swinging around here so wasnt sure of exact location. Looked around all the pongas in vicinity but no luck
An interesting little site which we have driven past lots but never realised it was there. We weren't there at the same time as the occult gardening club but saw some evidence of their last meeting. Left a TB. TFTC
Emmett and Joe Possum found this one after giving up on the Big Muddy Cache. Took TB swapped large marble for whistle. TFTC.
What I like about this cache is where you have brought us, somewhere interesting that most people haven't been to, nice to have the back ground info too,
Found with kiwitrecker1 and the kids. Left the TB as it had a note attached to it saying not to take it which we couldn't quite understand. Used a different type of GPS today so had to get used to some on screen differences which made it a little more challenging, i'll get used to in in time! TFTC
Strange place, have to wonder what happens around the ring of broken earthenware at midnight?!
Approaching the cache from the top (wrong side), its size and lack of camo made it glaringly obvious. Added some vegetation on leaving to aid survival. Cheers!

I decided today to heed the old saying "Go West, young man, Go West." Well, I'm not that young nowadays but anyway I still went. Didn't travel too far along the track after signing the log as I needed to get back to base.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Found this one using the description more than the GPS. Was wide out in the open when we found it, and wasn't sure wether it was meant to be or not, so we have attempted to cover it up just a tad.
TFTC! exchanged trackables.

First find of the day. On my way to the Cornwallis / Huia area to get some caches while the weather is good. Started of by going along the Parau Track then realised from my Gps I was on the wrong path [as per description!] So I went through some bush to another path from which I could see the pad. Came out onto the pad and a quick find it was thanks to the hint. TNLN

After spending the afternoon clearing a few caches around Blockhouse Bay and Titirangi, we continued on to Cornwallis and collected a few more caches along the way. Stopped here on the way and followed the instructions to GZ where the cache was quickly spotted. TFTC!

Decided I could afford to stop and find one more cache on the road home this afternoon. Checked the cache page and followed the instructions to GZ. Cheers for that, otherwise I would have headed up the track! Anyway, walked past the cache, turned around and spotted it. All good here. Cheers for the cache placement.
