We really enjoyed the walk on top of Takaka Hill! Has a great mountain feeling, with the rocky areas but also nice foresty areas. Plus the beautiful views, so lovely here!Easy find during this challenging but fun bush walk, tftc!

Quick find after doing the walkway loop.
Love the nearby grotto.

24-Jan-23
The trail was a bit overgrown, but still easy to follow. TFTC.

Glad I could convince non-caching family to do the loop again, first time (a couple of years ago) we missed this side track. Today we started with the side track which was actually quite nice. Had to crawl under - or climb over - a big fallen log.
Once close to GZ I had the right guess as to where this one would be hidden, so it was a quick find for me.

In Nelson for some relative's birthdays. Working remotely most of the week, but took today off to cache. My eldest grandson and I went for a drive to Takaka and back (from Stoke) to grab a few challenges, do some walks, and top up my 1.5/1.5 find numbers. 38 caches all up including 5 labs. An enjoyable walk visiting the caches along the way. Cache easily found. TFTC.

Dad for the find. This was a surprisingly damp side walk, that included climbing under a fallen tree. Mum enjoyed it, but the rest of the family were divided. Still we got the cache!

A quick find with Tregearp on our first time on the loop track. All in good order, signed log and replaced as found. Thanks b&w for the cache.

Suffrage Day seemed the perfect day to take my new hiking boots out for their first outdoor run, I'd been softening them up around the house for the week. SJT_NZ suggested the Takaka Hill Walkway as we hadn't been over the hill for a while. A nice wander around the loops picking up a few caches on the way. Thanks b&w for the cache.

Our second find on our stop over the hill heading home to Nelson today. NZ5 locates the cache quickly once we arrived in the general area. TFTC.

Out walking the Takaka Hill Walkway today grabbing a few caches. A bit of back and forth before the find. GPS said we were 15m away. Thanks for the cache.

A nice quick find thanks.

Found as we moved from Motueka into Golden Bay. The weather has been the best since we left Christchurch.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Amazing tree!! Only 9°C as we start on the circuit, so we were walking briskly! TFTC

No hint but an obvious host. The start of our walk around the Takaka hill circuit. Great terrain. TFTC

Last cache of the weekend, we approached this from on high. Might have been a quicker way to it, but after reading the description and a few logs we figured what side of the stream we should be on. TFTC Bum.

Next and last stop for the weekend is the Takaka walkway. This is an enjoyable walk for the most part. Some good changes of vegetation and track, the only downside being the intrusion of gorse on some parts. But other than that, all good. We finished this and headed back to Blenheim with 80+ cache finds under our belts and 50+km of track left behind our boots. A good weekend. Thanks all COs.

Last cache of the day/weekend and we came down onto this from the top entry to the bush walk. Good to start then it got a bit faint before settling down through the trees. Checked a few places before heading across for the find. Admired the grotto too. T F T C b&w.
Time to head back over the hills to Blenheim, has been a joy Tasman region.

Day 2 began nice and early. A tin of beans for brekky and a cup of tea and on the road around 0700, a lie-in compared to yesterday. Started off at Milnethorpe and pretty much cleared the lot in 3 hours. Then to Pupu springs for the Virtual and finished off at Takaka Hill, after a diversion to Abel Tasman lookout. Phew, quite a day and still back in time for mrs capperz to get home.

A long weekend trip to Takaka with mrs capperz away too meant an early start on Saturday, over the hill(s) and a night at the backpackers before another full on day Sunday and home in time for takeaway pizza. A few caches to pump the numbers along, some great scenery and good company with ricardinho.nz in the co-pilots chair. Over 80 caches found and some awesome photos taken and a 30km plus day on Sat, followed by a 20km plus day on Sunday.

After the miserable weather yesterday we were pleased to see a bit of sunshine, so what better way to spend the afternoon than wandering around on the top of the Takaka hill.
I read about the cow in the newspaper several months ago, so it was a great opportunity to get a photo while it is still there.
There was a young family returning from the bush walk as we arrived and they were the only people we saw all afternoon. We wandered down the bush track and soon arrived at GZ, we found the cache lying out in the open. The log was damp but still very useable. We signed the log and tucked it away so it now has a bit of shelter.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

Nine days to do some caching for the price of four leave days - who could complain about that! I found a quirky place to stay near Motueka, and decided to base myself there to cache in the wider area. I had a few on my hit list, and ended up finding a great variety of different caches on the trip.
Day seven - the weather was promised to be a bit less stable compared to the previous days, so I picked a shorter walk just in case. Except for a few occasions of spitting, I remained dry!
There was certainly a better way out than what I followed - but the gorse would be a good prep for a leter cache! TFTC!!

Superb spot, a good hide in the perfect setting to sit out of the heat to a bit. Really enjoyed it, thank you!

A short walk in the bush where it was cooler. Very pleasant and a good cache placement. Thanks.

For too long we have wanted to walk this track but there has always been something to stop us getting our ducks in a row. Today we had no such problems so off we go. This was our second stop, the first to visit the permanent resident in the nearby collapsed shelter. The cache was a quick find before we continued our way uphill.
Thank you bumandworker.

The Takaka Hill Walk has been on our to-do list for so long that in the end it was added to our bucket list Red Face We checked the weather for yesterday and it was awful but for today it was forecast a beauty and it was. As the steep incline loomed in front of us we noticed a sign "Bush Walk". The GPS pointed there also so we ploughed through the undergrowth to find a stile not far from a collapsed shed. Close inspection of the inside revealed Daisy who, it seems, is still seeking shelter. We followed the track through this unexpected lush bit of untouched forest and noticed a feature standing out in its surrounds. The GPS said yes and we woke the cache from its winter sleep soon after. Thank you bumandworker

A nice warm up stroll to this cache. A quick find.

nearly missed the sign it quite over grown but once on the track it was a nice wee bush walk

Even when we are doing a shoirt walk and only 4 or 5 caches we still manage to do one of them the hard way - did this on the way down and went off just as you head down on the road down to the carpark and went off on a side track marker following what we thought was a track - hmmm we were soon sidling down hill and came upon the fence - decided the cache wasnt that far away but upon crossing the fence found that there were steep drops and blackberry bushes still we spotted the track in the distance and found a managable drop off and found ourselves on the track soon made way to cache and after signing log had a wee explore of the stream crossing before heading back to the car - will do the track properly at a later date Smile thanks for the cache and an unexpected side track Smile

06-Feb-17
A stop on the way down the hill we decided to enter this one by the top track, All started well till we followed a diversion track that led us to scramble till we got back on the main track. All ended well as we found the cache with no trouble before heading back to the car. TFTC Smile

No problems finding this on at the start of our walk around the walkway. TFTC

Today is Go-Find-A-Souvenir day! But rather than head to either of the available earth caches in Blenheim, TaybeeDragon and I decided to to visit the great green fields of Nelson and Takaka and turn a small patch of it yellow.
This being close to the track we hopped down and had a look. The stream looks like raspberry tea, will upload a photo shortly. Turned out we didn't have to stop be here as the Dragon and I did the entire walk and the way back was along this path. It's a pretty bit of bush - was nice to see it a second time!
I noticed most of the tracks were not on the map, so I have added them. Which reminds me - I must download a new set, ready for the Turangi Mega.

Its Souvenir Hunt Earth Cache Day- Road trip to Takaka via St Arnaud! Hey What! Lets Go.
Right its walk time. This is the first on the list. Great little walk in the bush along a stream. The stream looked raspberry and tan in the different lights. Cheers We return to the main track to continue on our trek.

Beautiful walk through the bush. Thank you

We have been on a road trip trough New Zealand for 25 days. After finishing the eastern part of the Takaki Hill Walkway we also made the Bush Walk and found this geocache.

Thanks for the cache

The kids delighted in looking at the cow in the shed and made us adults look but you got no squeals of delight from us. Not sure where this track officially starts and ends but we did a section that did include passing this cache and poor old Buttercup. TFTC

Certainly a distinctive feature! I enjoyed the coolness of the bush walk, done on the way back to the car after the Takaka Hill Circuit on a VERY hot day. Thanks for placing the cache. The series of caches in the area seem to me to be caching at its best; something for everyone, and placement on a track that you might drive past without ever discovering how worthwhile it is. Apologies for late logging.

A quick easy find at an interesting feature at a scenic location along the bush walk. TFTC

Bush walk conjures up images of a gentle saunter in the bush so that's what I was looking forward to. Very glad that I left this till on the way down because the title and image did not align till the cache and practically back at the carpark. However the terrain rating reflects that but I hadn't noted that. Had a look in the collapsed building and poor old buttercup is still there - that was one of the most bizarre sights a cache has ever lead me to. A great walk on the walkway today with this little side step as a bonus. TFTC #7505

On our way to the Bay for the weekend.
We found time in the misty drizzle to go for a walk and clean up this park once again.
Past the old shed that seems to have fallen over since our last visit and into the bush.
Nice walk.

NZDi and I have been planning a long weekend in Golden Bay for a month or so and today these plans came into fruition. Of course a long weekend out of town would not be complete without the odd cache thrown in and so a few caches were planned along the way. The weather back in Blenheim had been crap all week and the forecast for the weekend was not that flash either, however as soon as we got across the Whangamoa's we could see this part of the country was bathed in sunshine.

We had to back-track to this cache (see log on Another Summit Takaka), although it wasn't the first time we back-tracked today, but it was the first geocaching related back-track. Back in the now familiar car park we noticed that there were two more caches to get from here, this was the first. A short stroll through the bush led us to GZ where a good set of coordinates (but thanks for the D/T rating anyway) and NZDi's geo-senses soon had the log signed.

It's been many years since we had been to Golden Bay, and a long weekend seemed an ideal time to reacquaint ourselves with the area (and find a few caches as well Cool).
We looked for this cache on a short detour on our way back to the car after what seemed like hours walking around the area. It was nice to be in the bush without the worry of tomos lurking under ones feet! A quick find in the obvious place.
Just before we reached the stile as we returned to the car, we spotted a SI robin on the fence. He had a lot to say for himself and entertained us for a few minutes before flying away. A highlight for me. TFTC.

#8434. A nice short bush walk to finish our visit to the area. We were feeling a bit pooped after a longer walk then we expected, so the robin gave us a chance to catch our breath while it entertained us. TFTC.

Found on a day's exploration around the region, letting the geocaches lead me to all the interesting places. I missed the sign for the side track so walked along the main one and bush-bashed to the cache. Found quickly and then I continued along the side track to where it rejoined the main track. Signed log, TFTC

Got this on way back to car. We weren't sure where the track in was but after the gorse on the walkway the grass was no longer a deterrent. The beech grove and grotto were lovely. Glad we visited. NINO TFTC

We have been on this sidetrack before so Mrs SoBad hopes SoBad doesn't mind too much that she did a walk in one of his favourite areas without him. The 'cow' cache was on our favourite list before it was archived and we carried on along this track then. More overgrown than she remembers - but it was a long time ago and her memory is not that reliable. But the GPS plus cacher instinct were and so no problems to find the cache.
Thanks.

The Cretan Runners took a walk around Takaka Hill and picked up some caches as we went. We really enjoyed the walk and the diverse landscape and terrain in this area. Thanks to the cache owners who have placed these caches for us to enjoy. This one was the seventh of the day which we missed this morning. We headed over to see the "mummy cow" and then headed off for the cache. A neat hide. TFTC.

What a lovely wee piece of bush. Really enjoyed the walk in here. We too paid our respects to Buttercup. Poor thing. She has had so much more interest paid to her in death than in life.

03-Nov-13
The trouble with caching with me (as Sidewaze probably thinks at times) is that I always get sidetracked by photography oportunities. The walk to this cache was no exception; it took much longer than it should have ( though it was a quick find). TFTC

02-Nov-13
found it

12-Oct-13
Although I enjoyed the bush walk I must admit to being just that little bit disappointed that due to proximity, there can't be a cache by poor old Buttercup any more. GPS did struggle under the cover but it didn't take too long to find. TFTC, Biggles.

08-Sep-13
A good spot to stretch the legs and a nice area for a cache. On the way out I detoured slightly and paid my respects to poor old Buttercup. Oldest daughter headed straight for the style and the car.
Thanks bumandworker.

3 from 3 for FTF today and this was the best cache of the day well worth the trip in itself, we meet some cavers heading in as we were heading out and had a quick talk with them. We will be back some day soon when its not raining to explore and follow the small stream. TFTC and a favorite point from us
