A good and short walk to this cache from the parking spot. It was a bit stinky along the river, and the flies were relentless. Thankfully, the cool cache made up for any other issues. Cheers!
Decided to head down towards Wonthaggi to the beach caches that I did a few years ago. After yesterdays rain, a coolish day today with a touch of sunshine and the wind was not too strong. This was one of the 12 caches I looked for today - 2 DNF. -high difficulty as I was trying to fill my grid. Enjoying the area- this one was a novel Gonefishen07 cache. Log dry. Fav from me.
19 July 2024 3:19pmWell we made this one a whole heap harder than it had to be. If anybody asks the best way to access this cache from the beach, my advise is not to. [xx(]At least we had an adventure, and it wasnt snake season, and a cache in the hand is worth bashing through the bush. With 3 days off, catnap777 and I headed for the Bass Coast with a wish list of caches we have wanted for way too long. We didnt let the lousy forecast hold us back, we just added another jumper under our wet weather gear. As it turned out, most of the wet stuff fell while we were driving or at night while we were all tucked up warm and dry. God loves Geocachers. Among our most prized prizes pried from their hides were some of the last county caches we needed in Victoria, some high D/T stuff, and a handfull of challenge caches that have been on our radar since day dot. TFTC Gonefishen07.
19 July 2024 15:15 Surprisingly, this birdie was still quite fresh for his advancing years.dalerious and I thought we should pack the car and head to Gippsland, as it is an area we have been wanting to visit for a very long time. The weather report was less than favourable, but when has that ever stopped us.We just take it as it comes, as life is too short to sit at home procrastinating. My husband dalerious and I met each other late in our lives, not that we feel like oldies yet, so we are not going to sit back and watch everyone else do the awesome stuff. We live life to the full, and that is the way we are going to stay till we fall off the perch. Well, that's the plan, anyway. Two days away ticking off the rest of the LGA's in this part of Victoria.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".
So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.
**Thanks to Gonefishen07 for this adventure, looking forward to many more.**

After the long slog back to the car park from the previous cache, we enjoyed this walk along the Powlett River. Being quite warm today, our eyes have been on the lookout for snakes and when we reached GZ, the environment didn’t look all that inviting.
Although we had not passed a soul, I took it upon myself to do the hard work and stay on the track and watch for any muggles Steve was not exactly thrilled to head in amongst this potential snake pit, but he did and found a wonderful container that he held up for me to admire.
Thanks Gonefishen07 for a great cache and to the snakes that live around here, thanks to you guys too for staying hidden.

The catch cry for today was what could go wrong....well we should have chosen a different path in to start with as our chosen path made things way harder 100meters went forever we turned this into a T4...we being TKB's Kashbound, kbucky and myself, crawled slipped slid all the way to GZ it often was 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Yes twice as hard but twice as fun we eventually got to GZ and made the find. Psst I thought I saw a puddy cat(I did I did, he was in the form of a travel bug but unfortunately did not fit in the cache so was left at the next find) TFTF
Made that way harder than it needed to be because we went the wrong direction from the start, my fault. Found today with Tiz13 and Kashbound on a great day out in this beautiful area on the most glorious of days. we tried to put in a cat which would have been fun for the theme of this cached but it didn't fit. tftc Gonefishen07
Well "what could possibly go wrong" with we should go this way many times was said maybe this way and let's try that way but with this new team of tiz13, kbucky and myself we got through the green maze to get an easy find... TFTC GF07
Another creative Gonefishen07 cache found with icw. We took the scenic route to get here, but took the smart direct way back to the carpark. Tftc.
Yes and it requires bush bashing big time if you try from the Beach House which I did. There is a better way, in hindsight I know that now! Another awesome cache, TFTC Gonefishing.
A fair while ago, we walked this interesting and peaceful circuit.
The search for this one was very quick. A rather large and creative container matched the theme. I don't think we've seen one like this before! A favourite point for the creativity.
Thanks Gonefishen07 for all of the great caches you have placed in this area.
Chiefton!!!
(Sorry for the belated log.)

#4473 Another cute set up here, although well weathered now. It is a lot cooler today and the wind is blowing a gale along the coast. This walking trail is quite protected though. Thanks again Gonefishen07.
Having a weekend away and staying at the caravan park nearby, we took a walk and found this awesome cache, my son loved it. We enjoyed our time here and will be back to do some more geocaching and for my husband to continue feeding the fish (no catches for him this weekend, lol). TFTC
A super cool hide! The geokids loved this one although there was initially some conjecture over the status of the bird (dead or plastic ). So much fun on a rare walk out to get some fresh air. Thanks for hiding these fun caches
Well today I found myself in the Kilcunda-Wonthaggi area with a day to kill. In my travels today I had much time to contemplate where I should be out caching in this area or not, given that over half the cache have been disabled due to COVID19. I could come up with 10 good reason why to and why not, and it could be debated at length without conclusion but at the end of the day I figured that the game pieces are in place still, I have breached no rules or laws, I probably couldn’t be more isolated (didn’t see a sole), many other are caching, I have sanitised my hands so much the skin is cracking and the reviewers are publishing new cache. Certainly, I would consider the risks are higher simply going to the supermarket, and I could log these cache in a few months, but I choose to do it now. Apologies if I have upset the CO’s by breaching their intentions.
The day for me started in Kilcunda, picked up a couple of loose traditional cache and then parked near the cemetery. I preceded to hike my way along the beach collecting the Killer view series and Cache Favourite challenges. Certainly the views were killers! The beach was stunning, just one set of footsteps as far as you could see from where I had come and a beautiful clear beach ahead of me. The beach and waves were stunning, and the small patches of rock formation just a wealth of interest, however there was a bite in the air that on a few occasions gave my head the pain like when you eat ice cream too fast! I continued down all the way to Powlett River mouth and had to do a little bush bashing near the river as I made my way past the beach house, fairy garden, bird in hand, the ballgame and so many other great inventions. Eventually I rejoined the rail trail back to the car after 11km or sand, dunes and trails, and tucked into a cup of tea, some sausage rolls and fruit.
My second adventure was around the Wonthaggi Heathland Nature reserve, I spied another circuit and feared there maybe more sand dunes! My legs were still feeling if from earlier. A I headed from the carpark towards the Target range knowing I was going to have to back track straight after. Then headed back towards the beach and saw an OWL! And continued on towards the beach for more isolation, more amazing views, more sand dunes, ammo cans (who doesn’t love a good ammo can?), and a little cut back through to the car. Another 10km covered, time for another cuppa, muffin bar and some nuts a raisens.
The weather started to turn now so I thought I best start making my way back home and collected a few drive byes along the way. Have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the day, the fresh air and kms certainly was great for my body and headspace and look forward to getting back to find some more. There will definitely be a few Fav points going out.
Thanks for the cache Gonefishen07, Loved this construction, a nice idea

It was a beautiful day today to head out and find some caches with ilook4eo. This was a very different cache to find and it was easy enough. The log soon had two more names added to the list of finders before we continued on to make another find. The resident here was very well behaved and did not try to escape, even when the outer container was left open. Thanks, Gonefishen07, for placing this cache. Favourite point for the unexpected find.
Was out for some caching today along with goingplaces2. Love the cache found here, which was not very far off the track. The resident was feeling quite chirpy. Log was signed, all was replaced and we way on our way again. TFTC.
Today I headed to Wonthaggi to attend the two events in town, I managed to convince My old caching Mate Trailrunning to come down for the day as he was so close to his 10,000 find, also teamed up with another great mate Omegaman1971, I had a great day finding caches and catching up with friends. Well it was to hot for the others and they called it a day so I was on my own now, nice novel hide.
Thanks Gonefishen07 for the cache.
Thanks Gonefishen07 for the cache.
A we continued our journey we noticed a little more water along the path from the recent rain but nothing that would stop us. Again we found this cache in good condition and everything was nice and dry. Another nice hide

Out on a caching day with tooth66 and possum 64. Loved the cache container for this one. Have seen a snake nearby, thankfully this one was dead, but right in the middle of the path. TFTC
I knew today was going to be a lovely early spring day, so left early to get down here with the sunrise. The plan was a couple of Challenge caches, and a few needed DT caches, plus any bonus caches along the way.
Another great hide and giving me some new ideas for my own hides. Almost over looked it the first time, and I was expecting something different from the name of the cache. Enjoying the lovely sun and the walk along Powlett River
Inside of the cache is a little damp, but the log file is all good and easily signed

Parked nearby. Nice short walk and fairly easy find. Absolutely brilliant cache. I love seeing the effort put into some caches, it inspires me to do better. Thanks Gonefishen07
I moved a little further north and parked nearby to walk to these four caches I had not yet found. The trail was empty today and a nice area for a short walk. Cache was found quickly and a nicely themed cache which I love. Stamped and returned as found.

Picked this cache up while heading out to "King of the Sand Castle" on a mission to pick up my last D/T. Cache found easily and certainly matched the theme of the cache name.

Continuing on our adventure after attending the Alexandra Mega Event, we found ourselves setting up camp not too far away from Korumburra. After settling ourselves in, we headed of to find a few target caches required for the next loops of our D/T grid.
We had no difficulty in locating this cache and with our name added to the log book, we continued on our way [^]
Thank you Gonefishen07 for having placed the cache and maintaining it for everyone to enjoy

Visiting Melbourne and targeting caches to complete my DT matrix.
2 out of 4 collected at waterways this morning and 1 in the dunes here to make it to 80 but failed at the King of the Sand Castle to make it to 81.
As I returned dejected I collected this en route to the car.
Nice container. Tftc.

Today was the day when the spot in my geocaching team was finally filled (sadly Monts passed away a few months ago). It was filled a few weeks ago, but my then muggle father refused to admit he liked geocaching. How ever he does like walking, solving problems and creating things. He suggested we do this walk today "what is the worst that can happen, we might get wet" so off we went. Every cache he walked up to, he stated "Monts is finding a lot of caches today". This walk was great and we didn't have a single DNF, which surprised me as I had been reading previous logs on the king and Queen. Please don't hate me, but the caching gods were with us today and we had the king in hand within less than 10 mins, and the queen in hand in around 2 minutes. It was, as I had read logs, all about trusting the GPS. Thank you so much for this series, I really enjoyed the walk and the challenging DT. TFTC Gonefishen07
This one looked a little less wet to get to so in we went. A quick find if a great little theme container.

On my trip down to Wonthaggi for the day to go out and pick up some unloved caches and do some other caches that are very convenient for me to grab, as I walk past them haha. This was one of those caches that I just happened to walk past, even so I would like to thank you for the cache and the amazing place you have taken me to today. Will continue on to try to get closer to the no1 spot in this months unloved challenge.

Out for a walk this afternoon with Wal-Len clearing a few local caches for both of us. What a delightful find in the bush here, but I generally don't like birds in cages. I'm sure this one doesn't mind. It's in a lovely spot. TFTC
I remember doing the original of this one probably last year. Today it was a quick find but a real pleasure to do so.
What a wonderful trail of imaginative caches to take us back to the car. Really enjoyed this easier D/T series for a change of pace. TFTC Gonefishen07. Took ICU-geocoin.
Got an email through the week challenging me to decode a message for a souvenir. Today, with a mission of claiming a souvenir I discovered that a cute little bird had laid an egg that was rather large for the size of the bird, and I imagine quite painful to pass. This bird might be another candidate for the blue parrot shop from monty python. TFTC
Having our usual annual Easter holiday at Cape Paterson with &Others, we wanted to check out the renoun sand surf mounds. Parked the car and picked this one up on our way to see what they were like. Nice flat walk and we shall return to do the dunes. Thanks Gonefishen07 for another great location to come to. Had to give this a favourite for being creative

Today was the big day for OzHockeyChick and I and we had our mission set and we were up at the early hours of this morning to head down to the coast to find a few caches and complete a challenge finally....
So on our way to this little one we spotted a very swift little 2 foot brown snake more or less fly across the trail but he was more happily getting away from us than us getting away from him....
A short little search and a decent laugh had at GZ when we had to look twice to see if the little fella was fake or real....lmao
A great cache....well done

Hi there Gonefishen07.
We found your cache "A Bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush."at 12:00:00 PM today, & this now makes our find count 12625.
Our cache run today started with a failed attempt to fill a hole in our D/T grid. We then found a few caches on our way back to the car park, leaving some to log on our next D/T attempt. We ended up logging 5 and DNFing 1 caches today.
We awarded this cache a favourite point for the unusual construction.
Coordinate Accuracy: We found this cache around 2m from where our GPS said we should be looking.
Cache Condition: The container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: A Smiley Badge.
Thanks for placing this cache for us to find,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Following the needle, it led us right to the hide, with good spot on coordinates. What awaited us was very cool.
The construction of this hide was excellent, and I loved the detail that went into it.
I have added this one to my favourites list.

It was an enjoyable walk along this grassy track from the car park - except for the flies!!! Once near GZ, accurate coordinates led to a quick find of a most appropriate cache container. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks for the cache Gonefishen07 - another favourite from us.
Just catching up on some logs, found this one with Mansgirl while on a cache run, or was that a dune climb. I found this one, but Mansgirl dived in to retrieve it, another nice camo,, signed and we headed off
What a great hide!! A fave for us,

Down this way again looking to get a few more ticks on my DT matrix. Some success and some failures but that's the way it goes. Missed these last time as I was rushing back to the car but had enough time to stop today and picked up 4 in a row on these short walk. Loved the container on this one and it did take me a minute to work out how to get my grubby little mitts on the cache. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited my personal trackable. Thanks for the cache Gonefishen07. This one earns a favourite point from me.

In Wonthaggi this weekend for a whole heap of geocaching!
Saturday, and what was planned to be a massive day. The schedule was to travel to Kilcunda via the rail trail, then head back down the coast. Unfortunately I ran out of time and had to head back to Wonthaggi before completing all the caches. Nevertheless a heap of smileys are now on the map, and I had a blast. A huge thank you to Gonefishen07 for placing these, they are great! Ill be back another day to finish the area off! I apologize for the generic logs, but there are a lot of them!!
Had to double check to ensure it wasn't real!!!

A great days caching with many differing experiences, some where I walked right to the cache and others where I needed to hunt around a bit. As usual I have enjoyed the various challenges set by the CO's and the fact that I get to cache with friends and am outside in the great outdoors.

With the rain well and truly coming down I figured "hey I'm already wet one more cache won't make much difference" I wish I had more time there are so many great caches around here, and this one was no less with real effort being put into the hide.
Shouldn't this be called a bird in the cage is worth two in the bush? Needless to say we were impressed with this one and when signing the log we took great care to make sure Tweety didn't escape. TFTC

Today was a beautiful day for caching, and just happened to be my prearranged day for caching with Biggles Bear. A nice little surprise, but very much in keeping with the cache name. Thanks for the cache.
Found 10:22:00 AM, in the company of Muzza during our regular monthly caching expedition.
TNLN, thanks Gonefishen07.

Late Log: Was walking down to the mouth of the Powlett River with cjfinda and rest of the geo family when I pulled out my phone to see if there were any caches nearby and this little treasure was only 10 metres away! I raced in to find it and was excited by what I found! Enjoyed this cache - thanks Gonefishen07 for going to such an effort for us all.
After completing "Queen of the dunes" & "King of the sand castle" caches it was time to return to the car. I found a cache or two on the way.
Found the cache, but now there's three in the bush! I left the door open, hopefully it will return for a feed.
"Scrat" visited your cache whilst on his Great Aussie Adventure.

Spiffy- and I made the journey down fir a handful of caches all of which are just amazing. Thanks for the effort you have fine to in each if these. Great cache.
Found in the company of quiet1_au, GJMMelb and gmj3191, although the other two (LousieAnne and sharkiefan) had found it earlier. Nice hide. TFTC
Still on the way back from the dunes (ah.. flatness!) following the well-trodden trail we picked up this cache - lochb doing the honours again Another unique caching hide that takes full advantage of out-of-suburbia caching freedoms TFTC
Found with LouiseAnn. We were both suffering from our respective aches so decided to head back to the car from the dunes. We figured that by following a kangaroo trail we'd be able to do this easily. Half an hour later we climbed over a barbed wire fence using my jumper as a barrier and we were safe on the walking track. I would not recommend this way at all but neither of us could stand the thought of trudging up the beach again. The ground was much easier this way but we were scratched a fair bit by the time we were done. After a wee rest and I calmed down from feeling lost in the wild we found your cache. What a joy it was to see. I took all the TBs from here as I like to make sure that they circulate. Tftc and a favorite point from me

Today was spent down on the Bass coast, initially doing a few before LouiseAnn, lochb, sharkiefan, GJMMelb (represented by Gary) and quiet1_au arrived, then doing most of them as a group, then a few more at end by myself, which I had missed on an earlier visit to the Bass Rail Trail last year.
Good to find another regular.
This was a really neat cache and just a little bit whacky, loved it. Fav point.
Thanks for placing this cache Gonefishen07

We picked this cache up at 2:23pm. After a short but long trip from our previous cache, we (sharkiefand and I) were really please and impressed to come upon this cache.
I hatched a plan a while ago for a winter trip to the Bass Coast near the mouth of the Powlett River. There were some T/D caches I was after and a few Victorian Cache of the Year nominees I was keen to visit. Obviously this was a very weather dependant trip, but the crew of sharkiefan, Quiet1_au, gmj(3191) and gjm(Melb, 1 of) and lochb were still keen in the days leading up to the expedition, so the trip was on.
Thanks for the cache and the series Gonefishen07.
