Well the cache description is a bit out of date. We had to go back and read a few of the older logs to work out what we are looking for. Found it on our second visit, so we're happy now.Log is a bit damp.TFTC!

Checked for too long. Checked hints about clips, rear wheels etc and nothing found. Plenty of leaves. Lovely bush, but no geocaches.

17-Apr-23
Sweet little find on one of our regular walking spots. It’s fascinating to think what logging must have been like in the olden days!

27-Dec-22
Very very teeny geocache! Would never have found it without the comments!

06-Aug-22
No luck for us today, we circled around, felt around, looked around and felt again but couldn't locate the cache.
Hopefully it is still there and we just didn't look hard enough.
We'll be back.

We'd looked for this a few years ago, but were damned if we could find anything. This time we went straight to it, so we'd like to think it wasn't there the first time haha. Love this place, so peaceful and yet an easy loop around

Came back and this time took the Cache Van with some supplies, in this case it was in the form of a black nano.
Check under one of the clips around the rails holding the wheels down...

07-Jan-21
A good look despite the DNF logs and we came to the same conclusion, we unfortunately came in the car and not the Cache Van that has the spare containers in it, we will be back in a couple of days to replace the container to keep this one going.
Hopefully that will suffice to keep Codiwompler happy!!

30-Dec-20

Spending a few days away in the camper, now on our way back home from Waihi Beach and discovered this hidden gem. Geocaches and a place to park overnight. What more could geocachers ask for. This was the first one on the trail and took a bit of feeling around before Mrs S made the find. It was starting to rain, lightly, but with all this lovely bush we didn't need an umbrella or a coat. Cute little tram but the life must have been hard for those chaps.

Thanks for bringing us here tparty. Awesome piece of bush which we never realised was here.

Find number 4355. Decided to go for a walk around this bush and collect some of the caches in it. I struggled as GPS bounced around and also there was no phone coverage. And then my GPS battery went flat. Still managed to find 4. I will have to come back for the others. I met a local called Barry who was walking his dog. We chatted for some time.
This one took me some time to find. Then I had difficulty getting the log out. Signing and putting it back was the easy part. Thank you for bringing me here.

21-Jul-18
We tried, we really really tried, but could not find this elusive cache. Not ours to find today Sad

I finally decided to have a go at solving the growing array of blue question marks around the BOP. After some solving successes, I was super-keen to find the actual hides and persuaded 11hpg11 that we needed a quick trip over the Kaimais for a few short walks today. First port of call was the cluster of hides in this reserve - a lovely walk and another cool place I wouldn't have seen without geocaching. After checking what we thought were the obvious spots for this one without success, we resorted to reading through recent logs. Systematic searches were the theme for success, so we decided to warm up on a chilly morning by completing the loop walk first and then have another try here. On our return, we re-read the hint, focused more closely on that and were quickly successful. Woo hoo! Nice to sign this one off too, TFTC

Kiwis69 mentioned she was planning a trip to Tauranga to pick up some solved puzzles and have a nice little walk. Just a quick mission for Sunday morning, so I offered my services as Chauffeur, Extra eyes (for spotting caches) and some Chit chat on the walk to the caches. The weather was perfect for this time of year, we got to witness the most gorgeous sunrise on the way over the Kaimais. We were treated with stunning blue skies and had a fantastic morning caching.

Had a quick look on the way in but decided to leave it to last when our caching instincts were warmed up and on second pass we soon had the cache in hand. Great area, thanks for showing us this spot that we would not have known about if it weren't for geocaching

04-Apr-18
We travelled to Tauranga this morning for some post-Easter caching, heading first for Puketoki Reserve. We had an enjoyable wander through the Reserve, collecting 4 trads and 3 puzzle caches along the way. We had just arrived back at the Bogie and began looking closely when a dog walker went past and called out "keep looking and you will find it!" We did, and we did. Thanks for showing us this interesting bit of local history.

03-Apr-18
Today's caching was rather impromptu. After picking up a purchase down the road from here, we continued up, for an explore. Hunted here for quite a while, with no luck, so we continued on around the track to see if we had better luck finding the others.

On our way back, middle juniorscoobydoos took control of the GPS unit. And directed littlest juniorscoobydoo to where he thought it should be. And sure enough...they found it....I'm the obvious spot!

I'm sure I'd hunted there previously - multiple times - but it took the eye of a 6yr old to come up with the goods here!!!! Lol.

Thanks so much for a great hunt, and bringing us to this cool little reserve... Smile

Had been looking to work my way through the Kaimai's this summer, or at least that part of it I could between work and the chores that have been set for me. This year was not to be one of a summer holiday but rather working through so I took the opportunity to retreat into the hills at pretty much every opportunity.
So headed over here in the early part of the morning (as if that is any different from the normal) to make the most of the light and the plans that I had.
Started walking about 5.45am (first walk only) as have been wanting to get these few along here for a while.
This was my last short walk of the day and a chance to gather in a few more. THis walk I encountered far more people in the first 10 minutes than I had seen all day on the previous 3 walks, and with all manner of pooches. NIce quick find once the muggles had passed.

Thanks for the placement and the cache was all dry and in good order.

08-Jan-18
Nice quick find

06-Jan-18
Nice cache. Hard to find but definitely worth it.

26-May-17
Last time I was here was a few years back and my daughter was really little. And it's been on mind for a long time where on earth was that place we went to that day. And today I've found it. Cache was a pain in the butt to find. Hahahaha! But a nice spot. Thanks for bringing me back here. Tftc

24-Jan-17
I really do feel like I'm "logging" this cache. Thanks for bringing us to this lovely reserve. I'll definitely be back. TFTC.

26-Dec-16
TFTC sheet fairly wet. But ok took a wile to find but not many around today.

24-Jul-16
Was finally able to head out for a full days caching, as caching time has been somewhat limited over the last few months. With the weather not being overly flash, the general idea for the day was to locate some of the caches on the shorter walks on the Eastern side of the Kaimais plus a few others along the way. The usual early morning start was also delayed due to a rugby game I had to watch, so didn't get out the door til around 7.30am.

Through out the day the weather gods were actually very kind, bar the strong wind, with only a few heavy showers during the morning. The caching gods were also mostly on my side with only a couple of DNF's at the near the end of the day. All up a great day out and some cool sights along the way, and managed to get home just after dark and before a big storm came through. A big thanks to all the CO's for the placements.

This was find #8 for the day.

Been meaning to get up to this area for a while now, but as it was only a short walk and it was a little out of the way these finds always got put on the back burner. This caches were high on the list today, so made the effort to head out here. Threw on the tramping boots before I headed into the bush, wasn't to sure on the conditions of the tracks, but I shouldn't of been worried as they were mostly gravel highways.

Had a hunt for this when I first got here but couldn't spot the cache. Decided to have a go on the way back, as I thought torch might help matters. Once I'd completed my walk I thought I'd have one last look before getting the torch. Eventually found it (without the torch), and in a place I thought it would be, but the only spot I hadn't checked last time. Thanks for the neat hide.

06-Mar-16
Nice quick find for us today. I have never been here before some great history here. All good with cache. TFTC

30-Dec-15
This one took ages to spot. Not too many around today but we decided we'd pick this one up after completing the long loop. Three of us looking and finally we found it after a more of a grid search, TFTC! Big Grin

29-Dec-15
Took a while but got it in the end. Cool

26-Dec-15
A lovely piece of NZ bush.

17-Dec-15
A very, very cool spot for a cache to be hidden... the 'hint' was spot on!

09-Nov-15
When I first visited this area I was new to caching and didn't know about offline lists etc. so with no cell phone reception, searching by memory of what I'd seen on the computer screen at home didn't go so well. Now I'm much wiser and returned with not only an offline list but I'd read the hint as well Smile

I don't no why I hadn't checked this last time but I made short work of it today - I must say I really love this area - a neat little bush walk, well formed gravel tracks and dog friendly. tick tick tick cheers for bringing me here. This is 1 of 3 for me in this area today and I have a feeling it will be the easiest....

13-Sep-15
A nice diversion during a walk in the bush with the kids. Took a while to find, but that makes it more satisfying. Tftc.

07-Sep-15
It took a systematic search in the end to find this one as we didn't really believe, at first, that it was where we thought the clue led us. However, one final look just before we called it quits and there it had been all the time! Slightly damp inside, but the log was well bagged and still dry. TFTC tparty.

Just love this celebration of history and the walk around the reserve was fantastic, with lots of birdlife and signs labeling several of the majestic trees.
Chatted to one of the volunteers doing his pest control rounds.
He said there are hardly any rats, stoats or possums ever found now - but mice are still a problem.
He said if they don't keep up the pest control, the possums & rats soon move in from other areas.
We thanked him sincerely for all his work - we are so lucky to have locals who care enough to put such a great effort in. [And COs who put caches there for us to find!! Earns a fav from us]

02-Sep-15
We had to pick something up along whakamarama rd so decided to grab these 2 caches. Nice little reserve! Junior liked the log bogie. Good hide. Tftc

Replaced sodden logbook with a temporary scrap of paper. Will get back sometime and do the job properly. Arrived this morning to find I had removed all my replacement bits and pieces from our caching bag.

16-May-15
While on a mission to unsuccessfully knock off the puzzle and the other cache in the bush, we had to settle for this as a consolation find. I'm glad we found something in here, even though it was only a temporary scrap of paper to sign. I returned today (17th) for another go at the other two and on the way past, I replaced the log in this for a proper one. I loved this bush block, there are some fine specimen of large native trees and birdsong. Didnt find any evidence of tramlines in the bush though. Thanks tparty for the informative page and bringing me to an area I never knew about. I tried taking a pic of the log on the bogie - it sure looks a bit weathered compared to the original pic on the page. TFTC

This was our 2nd attempt .... and this time we came armed with additional troops - 9 of us in total ... and guess who found it first? Mrs L [8)][8)][8)] of course. We then walked on and did the Long Loop Track ... most enjoyable; thank you for bringing us here.

16-Dec-14
Hint was spot on and, despite having no gps to guide us, after a quick search of the target area I had cache in hand. Log book is soggy but just managed to sign. A lovely walk through the reserve. Tftc Smile

TFTC love this reserve and finally got round to loading this cache to an offline mode as no phone signal.

25-Oct-14
What a lovely area! I'd never have known it was here except for the cache - yet more proof that geocaching is awesome! Took a couple of laps searching, but eventually cache was in hand. Oddly, although container seemed bone dry, logbook was quite damp - still usable though. Thanks for bringing me somewhere new! TFTC!

22-Sep-14
Lovely reserve, a place to return to.

08-Dec-13
Greasy hands? yes. Did we find the tricky hide? no Sad. Nice area though!

08-Dec-13
This is not intended to be that tricky to find, but given a couple of DNF's from some experienced teams, we have altered the hint to ensure you don't get those yucky greasy hands Big Grin and aren't left with that sour taste in your mouth, experienced when you have to leave one behind (especially when you know the blighter is there somewhere!) We hope the new hint is not too tricky either Wink

02-Dec-13
Managed to get yucky greasy fingers while searching, sneaky hide. TFTC

16-Nov-13
Sufficiently recovered from a five-day school camp...

My intended target for this visit was the 'chirping' puzzle. Unfortunately, I forgot to load it into the gps, so that was game over. Luckily, I still had some hunting to do in the area. Ground zone was easy enough to find... The cache, not so much. I had a preconceived idea about the cache type and looked all over for this particular hide. A couple of walkers looked on with concern as they thought I was doing something untoward... There were a lot of possibilities here, but the cache hide was a bit too sneaky. A great hide in this location. TFTC.

25-Oct-13
I know it will be there but where !!!. Tried to PAF but no joy there either. Will put on my watchlist & hope I can glean a bit more info.Cheers.

13-Oct-13
Found with Sprunga many moons ago. Updating my cache logs using their log history today. TFTC.

From memory this one was quite a wee challenge. We were caching noobs at the time!

13-Oct-13

28-Sep-13
Spent ages looking for this little bugga, was not going to leave empty handed, and our perseverence paid off eventually, tftc

17-Sep-13
This is a beautiful piece of bush with two nice walks to either run or walk - Started to hunt for this cache with the last light of the day. I was wondering how smal the cache was going to be SadSadSad But then I was pleased to feel the right thing without touching the greasy bits! Good hide - blends in well!! [^][^][^] Thanks for the history lesson - its amazing what they did and how hard the work must have been. TFTC CoolCoolCoolCool

Quick drive out here after training at Te Puna before we go home to Rotorua. We found fairly quickly at 645pm kids like going into forest with their torches. We went down to have a look at the small waterfall by car park after and then discovered some glow worms under the big rock and trees to your right on way up to car .
Thanks tparty we will need to come back in day light to do the other caches in the area.

We were about to head out to Bethlehem and Mrs NZK noticed an email about a new cache about 2 minutes after publication, shall we go for bit of an extra drive to find a new cache? Well why not! When we arrived at the parking area and saw the number of trees, we thought this could be a hard little one to find but it wasn't too bad. Got a good fix on the Garmin and the distance and we were all set. Walked into a beautiful bush area a few metres and then noticed the obvious, and now how do you find a micro there! A few minutes later we had found what we were looking for. A great hide in a nice interesting spot we had not visited before, and best of all a Blank Log Book!!! A FTF Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin A good place to come back to in the summer for a picnic and to explore properly. Thanks tparty!
