WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 81 - Geraldton Day 1. My plan today was to attempt some of the series of caches around Geraldton. I started off with the Plane View caches around the airport. Very mixed road conditions, tractors to massive ore trucks. Plenty of difficult hides and some I just could not locate. Next I headed north for a go at the Jungle series, that looked like it was on a road, but, wow, it was not. I walked to most of them from Chapman road but even here I had a few I could not find. After lunch I went into the town center to do a set of Labs and tried unsuccessfully serval caches there, only one in the end. I will do some logging and head back into town for dinner tonight. Rain predicted this evening, it could be a quiet day tomorrow. The bush along the road masked where I had to go for this one. I can't imagine getting to the post if it was a thick as the edge bit. I found my way n and wandered over. A very nice construction that would have been very challenging. Thanks for the cache rumpleteasers48557.37 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2008 Australia Emu 2 A#97**Albida**
A caching trip from Canberra, ACT to Cape York, Qld and then around the gulf to East Arnhem Land, NT then over the top of WA and down to Perth.Interesting detours to Thursday Island, Mabuiag Island, Mornington Island, Doomadgee, Hells Gate, Nhulunbuy, Wadeye, Litchfield Nat Park, Wyndham, the Gibb River Road, Monkey Mia, Meekatharra & Wiluna TFTC.An excellent well designed cache. Awesome.
Got to have a good opinion of Geraldton, rain stopped and its looks dry, and the first cache we found was a really good one! Very nice!
Hi there rumpleteasers. We're here in Geraldton for several months house/dog sitting while the owners are away holidaying. We found this cache today at about 12:27:00 PM. TN, LN, SL. Thanks to rumpleteasers for this cache - our find 10819 and the 5th of 6 finds for the day.FieldNotes: The cache and log were both found in good condition. The owner of this cache deserves a FavPt for the work put into it, but I can't give him/her one, so I'll give it to the cache instead.
The juicy d/t ratings attracted me to the cache. Found a suitable place to park the car and wandered across grass terrain till I hit GZ. The council has cleaned all the scrub so I didn't need to go through bushes for the cache. Signed the logbook and left. Thanks for the wonderful construction of the cache! Left a fav point!
Heading north on a road trip with richlink enjoying a variety of locations and grabbing some caches along the way. We are enjoying a few days in Geraldton, acclimatising to the warmer weather.
This is a challenging and fun cache to find, a fave point from us.

Woohoo!!!Travelling north with iluvtrekking and this was in our ‘to do list’. Much scrambling and pushing through the thick scratchy vegetation but relatively unscathed. Located the amazing camo and recorded our visit. Thanks for the hide.
Struggle through the nasty terrain, dressed for combat, long sleeves , long work pants & boots. Height disadvantaged - but managed with preservation & determination. All in good condition.tftc
Was surprised to run into fellow geocacher copwats who made the retrieval of this super tricky cache.
Parked to attempt this cache only to find another geocacher already in search, which made this one a real easy retrieval. Thanks copwats for doing the hard work
Ummed and ahhed about trying for this but Mr fratra decided to give it a shot.
After a lot of bush bashing
happy to have our name in the log book 3 years after the last find.
A FP for the creative cache.
TFTC rumpleteasers this is find #12503 for us.

My arms are leaking! Quite a mission to find a well executed cache. Thanks for the fun.
Up in Geraldton for IGD and to clean up some more of the map, hands and knees it was today but that paid off as we were rewarded with that smilie TFTC
Wow! Nearly 12 months since a find on this one.
We had planned on getting this one when we arrived in Geraldton Saturday afternoon but by the time we got here it was getting late and we decided to leave it till later.
Our GPS wanted us to go one way but one look at that option and we decided to try something else. Mrs Beetle donned the appropriate clothing and footwear and headed off to tackle this one. It was nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be and I was soon at GZ where the cache was quickly found. The container was guarded by a tarantula and I hope I didn't squash him when I returned the container.
As for blood, sweat and tears. Had blood [and no tissue], had sweat but no tears. Just a big smile instead for conquering this one.
Just had to give this one a go as our surname is Bailey.
Thanks and a favourite point from us.

Took a shot at getting the smiley for this cache while doing a cache run with new friends Cravo10 & Barnzy12 after the GC791W8 - International Geocaching Day 2017 Event in Geraldton W.A.
This cache certainly was well named.
This cache certainly was well named.
Found on our first full day of our caching trip to Geraldton for the annual International Geocaching Day Event.
We arrived late Friday night, getting in just before midnight due to one of us finishing work about an hour later than planned! Stopping for a couple of simple Park and grabs along the way to keep our caching streak alive and enjoyed a quick feed for a late dinner in Jurien Bay.
We started the day with a bit of a later start after a small caching foray to find the new letterbox hybrid cache in town so we got up around 830 to start the caching day.
We curled up locally and headed around the suburb of Tarcoola, and had a large number of DNFs there, sitting around 40% find rate through the area, which was quite frustrating. We cached around the area attempting every cache on the Tarcoola Map before heading out to Bluff Point for the IGD event at the wintersun hotel, which we knew quite well having stayed there on our last trip whilst heading to the northwest.
We had a great pub lunch and enjoyed a cold beer whilst chatting to local cachers squash2 and reticbob regaling stories of some of the infamous caches around town that they either own of have had the pleasure of finding. Reticbob told us of his and others caches on the Moresby Range, which had only just been re enabled after the property changed hands.
We had to make tracks after the event to get the find rate up so teamed up with Team Ruphace who are from Melbourne but are staying in dongara and cached out bluff point with a significant amount of success before thinking we weren't that far from the Moresby Range so made the call to the land manager (this is a must - please respect this great spot so others can continue to enjoy it) and got the all OK to head to the northern side of the property, with the south off limits.
This would be my favourite part of our caching day, the Moresby Range is simply amazing, a MUST do if you come to Geraldton. Views forever. I won't say too much, you can get here and see it for yourself. Just please ring ahead (read the cache listings)
After the Moresby Range caches we headed back towards the centre of Geraldton where we kept finding cache after cache except for a few which need some serious CO attention. We managed to tick off a few nemesis caches including bluff point lighthouse, out and about erosion, tanked at the RSL and a few others, which was most satisfying.
We bid farewell to our companions after finding twenty odd caches together, which was most enjoyable and made finding it a bit easier with four sets of eyes at most caches.
We had a nice noodle dinner and got prepared to find a few more caches by torchlight around central Geraldton. The highlight of the evenings caching was another trip to the HMAS sydney memorial which is my favourite spot to visit in Geraldton. We followed the map around collecting the answers some of which I knew off the top of my head given my love of history and "the Sydney" we collected the puzzle cache for Cravo10 who somehow hadn't found it.
Overall a big day attempting around 60 caches with 40 finds, in around 12hours. Looking forward to finding some caches along the Chapman river tomorow on our final day of our short Geraldton getaway. Thanks to the local COs for their caches.
How on earth did you find this place? Few scratches. Jumped the barb wire fence.

I found the post!
Out on IGD in Geraldton for the 3rd year in a row with Barnzy12.
We started the morning a little late compared to a usual geocaching weekend however we did only get into town at midnight so a 8.30 start was early enough!!
The morning started with a extremely poor Find rate at around 40% found. We then headed to the Event and enjoyed a pub lunch and a pint of beer and that would see the luck turn there after.
After the event we headed off with Team Ruphace Matthew and Cathy finding around 20 caches with them.
The highlight was following the lead of reticbob and getting the caches in Moresby Range, going through private land that offered sensational views.
Overall a great day out in Gero, looking forward to seeing some of you again soon at WA Goes Big in Rockingham on the 9th September

On our roadtrip Coruze spotted this cache nearby. So we pulled over
near GZ and started scrambling through the bushes. Phones are not
as good as a gps but we persisted. Over fence, back, over, and back
Coruze made the find. Thanks for the scratches rumpleteasers.

In the company of troobloo we were heading into Geraldton for the night and I noticed this cache pop up on my gps and decided to stop.
We walked over towards GZ and started guessing on where it could be. Caching on the phone isn't accurate and you have to use a bit of guestamation.
We weren't sure about jumping the fence and didn't know whether it was private land or not but we decided to take the gamble.
After a bit of a scramble, scratch, duck, up, out, in etc.. we made the find. I have a cache just like this one so it was good to see another similar one.
Anyway we did our caching duties and signed our autograph in the book and made our way back.
Thanks for the fun rumpleteasers!

The challenge was there and Spot had to go with it. Scratching Post and ants galore, scratches galore but that what's fun. The hide is a ripper and the the cache is in very good nick. Thanks for all of your efforts setting this one up rumpleteasers.

I had a short holiday in shark bay and was heading back to Perth so it was a caching run home ..... I found a easy way in with a short bush bash and had the cache in hand ......TFTC
Hoo Boy! - I think the difficulty on this one should be way over 2 1/2. Very clever hide, must have taken a lot of work to prepare. Found today at 13:50. TNLNSL TFTC rumpleteasers
Holey moley. Kids were crawling around. All we heard wad ouw ouch. Lol. Then we saw THE SPIDER. So almost gave up when i remembered a clue. Dont know what u were looking for until you see it. Very clever.
Didn't get scratched but was wondering what I was looking, for until I saw it! TFTC. SL.
Must have just missed the previous finders. Based on previous logs we researched our entry point from home. We did make a good choice but discovered that the co-ords on Google Earth are way off. We didn't have a grommet and so there were some giggles as we scrambled and scratched our way to GZ. A very nicely crafted hide. TFTC
Great hide rumpleteasers! How did you manage that? Turns out that GeoR from Robroy_co is also a scratching post for all the bushes hehehe. The residents here have a great view. Thanks for the cache!
The smaller team members of robroy & jrlt tackled this one! How you managed to get this sort of cache into this location is mind boggling!! TFTC and the effort in creating such s clever hide!
Found this about a month ago but forgot to log it - have forgotten the date we were there. Being tall didn't help getting in to ground zero although it did in finding the hidey hole!
Had to make a rushed visit to Geraldton from Kalbarri to visit the Dentist and decided to grab a couple of caches on the way.
Found this on without much trouble once the best approach was determined. TFTC

That was fun!! Not as hard as we thought if you go the correct way in. Really cool cache. A favourite point for its ingenuity. Hope Bailey can still get to his scratching post when he feels itchy:-)
Tftc my first point of approach landed me with a barb wire fence, so I decided to re-think it the last meter was the worst!
If that is the size of Baileys Scratching Post, how big is Bailey??
Found relatively easily.... didn't get too scratched.
I love these caches that an extra bit of effort has been put into hiding. Thanks rumpleteasers.

This was our 1st cache find in a caching run of 7 Finds & 0 DNFs today.
We found it at 09:55 so this now makes our total find count 7177.
[blue]
A nicely engineered Scratching Post. We navigated to the cache easily enough, although some of the fauna extracted blood from Penny.
[/blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent (Around 2 metres).
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Doll
Grabbed: TB -"Petrified Wood Compass Geocoin "

Needing to fill a blank on the calender (many of them) we decided on this one. After reading the previous logs we approached it with some trepidation, ie: sniffer dogs, mine sweepers etc. However, to our surprise we found it straight away and managed to do so without being attacked by anything. SL TNLN We concur with Irish's comment that, so much time, thought and effort in implementing that cache deserves a favourite. Good one rumpleteasers.
Found it yay!
A sticky little one lol. In the right spot at first but then geo mum got in patient and led us to the other side. Perseverance paid off. Great thought out cache, must of took a lot of time and dedication.
We are driving home with scratches all over our backs haha

After finding two other caches in the area we headed across to GZ to try our luck here. I was a little apprehensive after reading the description wondering what was in store for us. We parked and walked to GZ and couldn't believe that in the middle of a rather warm day there were rabbits galore hopping about and enjoying the green grasses.
Ian soon took the lead and turned off of the track and into the bushes, I gingerly followed. No luck that way the trees were too thick so we were forced to retreat. A little further on Ian turned into the scrub again, I was tempted to try a little further up but decided he might know best. After some ducking, scratching and weaving again we were forced to u-turn but then spotted another "path". We progressed until yet again with another few metres to go we were at a dead end, while Ian glanced around for a way through I spotted a fantastic spot to hide a cache - I am 100% sure Ian would not have noticed it. Yippee I saved the day, or rather saved myself from having to push through more bush.
A fantastic cache 10/10 - then again perhaps I should deduct points for the blood. Not really it is a goodie.
