Found the site, but unfortunately the hiding spot (described in hint) has been removed along with the log. Seems like to many muggles have been through here, what with this and the trash dumping nearby

On camp at the nearby scout camp and decided we couldn’t go past these caches. Took an experienced cacher and a couple of newbie kids who loved it. The wind made paddling over hard but we got there. We then walked to all the caches on the island including the multi. Great hides all round. The paddle back was harder as the wind kept pushing us sideways!

The inside container was very wet and we couldn’t write on the log. Photo evidence in Grulz’ log.
Thanks for a nice multi. Mr 9 loved being responsible for getting the info off waypoint 1! Lol

Aaaaagh, me expidition was fur nought. Me n me first mate swam shark infested waters, fought locals, suffered the privations of thirst n hunger n heat n dust .
Them salty sea dogs has snatched the loot, sculled the rum, and left a soggy, near empty chest. Even poor old shorty was buried with just a x to mark the spot.

Aaaagh, but it be a grand tale to tell tha littl'uns on a dark n dismal night, thanks be

The geo-vehicle turned amphibious today as we "sailed" out for some island caching. Although the fun of actually being on the water was missing a good time was had. And this one had a real pirates teasure hunt to it. A FP from us. Many thanks Stooy !!

We headed out for a drive today with the geopups. LeeLee use to spend many weekends here waterskiing around this very island. Today we could drive to it.

A quick calculation and we were soon off to GZ. Nice size hide.

Thanks stooy

Great Multi, found the clue and the treasure.

Nice hide. I also found there was a pretty colony of green-head ants (Rhytidoponera metallica) under the cache container.

They aren’t aggressive, but I’ve heard they can hurt. I think they should be allowed to stay there in peace though.
Just be respectful of them and everything will be ok.

It was certainly a treasure to find

I found the post but couldnt find the cache. Big bummer.

29-Nov-20
I spotted these on the map on my way across the countryside heading out towards Ballarat. By chance I checked the satellite view only to find these were likely to no longer be surrounded by water. Sure enough I was able to drive the well worn paths of fishermen and others alike onto the island and almost directly to the caches in most cases. A fun multi. Both locations were able to be driven to within 30m or so.

Thanks stooy for the cache.

I leaped out of bed very early this morning to meet up with DAB to make the most of 2020's leap day. We were keen to get out on the road early and see what was in store for us. We had a list of caches we wanted to check off. We packed the geo wheels with plenty of supplies and took off in the early hours of the morning. And what a fantastic day it was!

I have not been to lake Eppalock for some time so it was good to be back here. I was shocked to see the water level as it was today, but still a good bit of water for people to play in. After working out the numbers, it was no time before we were at the final. I thought it was elsewhere at first dismissing the location. Once we turned over the camo, spiders went everywhere [:o] I hate spiders! I wish I had a blowtorch. After they scattered, I got into the log and replaced everything as found.

**Our thanks to stooy for placing this cache for us to find and enjoy**

After spending time with HP's 90+ Y/O Dad, it was time to step out into the real world and put some smiley tokens on our geo-map!
There is a saying "Whatever floats your boat' Geocaching certainly floats our boat! Today we were able to add our name to this log without even getting our feet wet!
We suspect the treasure was removed when Lake Eppalock was created!

Our thanks to 'stooy' for adding this cache to the geo-gameboard.

Find No. 2975. Found at 12.54pm

A days drive down to Lake Eppalock to find a few caches in the area. Went in the van and took Geodog Penny with us. The day turned out to be a rather warmish one and we enjoyed all the caches we found. By the end of it we had done heaps of walking which we don't mind doing at all. Would love to see this area full of water but glad there was not much today as these caches we could walk to.
The first one in this area we could nearly drive right up to but because of the soft sand we didn't as we didn't want to get bogged. Not far away from where we parked there were other cars parked - not cachers but metal detecting people.
After finding the other three in this area we are now doing the multi which was the furtherest one away.
Found what we were looking for, worked out the co-ords and off we walked to find the treasure. Cache also quickly found. Log signed and now back to the van we walk.
When we had got back to the van the detecting people had moved on. We wondered if they had found anything - as we certainly found what we came for and ended up with smilies as our treasure.

Today we targareted 6 caches in this area, with an early morning start we made our way to a parking spot to do the walks first and to finish off with the ones we could drive near to GZ.

A straight forward multi, cache and contents were in good condition.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Out with xambo4u, we set off early to do some caches in the Lake Eppalock area. With a lot of talking, extra walking, and extra kilometres, we achieved our aim. A simple multi in very dry country. Thanks stooy

22-Nov-19
Out and about with echidna44 for another long way off caching day. Our target was for some of those higher terrains in the Lake Eppalock area. Now for the walks and talks, laughter and which way to go. No problems to pick up the clue while on our walk around the area. Got to GZ close to the car. Thanks for bringing us here.
Thanks for the cache stooy

After a big week we were on our way home from St Arnaud to Melbourne airport and on to Hobart. With a late flight we took some time at Lake Eppalock to find a few caches.
We took the SS Prado out to Token and Meridan Islands to find the good D/T caches here. With a ‘low tide’ we were quite lucky. All four caches were found before our amphibious transport retuned us to the mainland safely.
Thanks for these caches stooy

When planning the St Arnaud mega trip I was keen to incorporate some missing D/T’s from my grid. Stainless steel rat suggested flying to Adelaide ‘on the way’ and driving across so a route was planned and a fun week of caching began. I cherry picked in my planning so as not to run out of time for the ones I wanted, and we added a few on the day if there was time. We met up with various teams along the way including a planned rendezvous with Tassie Trekkers in Kaniva for a fun days caching. I ended up with around five hundred finds (including labs) for the week, and still had plenty of time for socializing along the way. It was great to catch up with some old friends and of course make new ones.
Special thanks to the St Arnaud mega committee for a great weekend.

This and it's five siblings had been on the todo for a long time since they had very nice D/T's and were accessible with the TOTT we could bring up from Tassie, we had a great time making our way with care to each location and we were very pleased we found all of them, one was a bit of a panic when it took up 20 minutes to find but that's what you expect on a high D/T isn't it.

Thanks for the cache and interesting location.

This was our last day and thus a drive to Melb and then fly home but we just had to collect a few caches along the way didnt we!

We had selected a few interesting caches and added a few more as we had time before we had to get on the plane.

This was the Mega trip that started out as a simple trip to St Arnaud for just the Mega and turned into a mega road trip starting with myself and GooseandEgg flying into Adelaide to collect a rental 4WD so we could drive an indirect route to St Arnaud and then on to Melbourne so we could fly home again.

The Goose had put a lot of planning into the trip so we could both complete or get close to completing our D/T grids, collect a number of good interesting caches and cache types we didn't have many off.

For me this was the best organised Mega I have been to, the stand out was how the committee had managed to get the whole St Arnaud community to welcome us all to the area, just about everyone we meet knew what we were there for and I had no awkward moments explaining what Geocaching was.

With the event finishing yesterday we continued caching around Bendigo where we were based.

We found the wapoint and deciphered the clues. We adjusted out treasue map and set sail. A few minutes later we were digging some treaure. a FP from me for great adventure.

A ripper little multi with an unusual D/T rating picked up in perfect conditions for the easier find. I had brought along various methods to navigate a shortish water passage but this day, where our wheels couldnt go our feet could. [^]
Thanks stooy for the beaut multi in a very scenic area new to me. I would love to see the lake at its best one day. I'll de back. Cool

This was a multi that we both wanted to find, and didn’t think we were going to be able to access it today. Instead we were able to drive reasonably close to it, much to our surprise.
What a lovely day for the drive, and, even though it is sad to see the lake so low, it was great for dalerious and I to be able to access this cache without getting our feet wet today, and lovely to get this particular D/T rating.
Thanks for placing it and maintaining it here for our entertainment and enjoyment

**Find #2448**

After an Ariel Recon Mission, and noticing that the Lake water level was low and the caches where all exposed to a Land assault rather than amphibious. However before we left the Big Smoke, a stop off at Anakonda had us equipped with our new Geo-caching Kayak's. The plan was to grab the caches and then have some fun on a beautiful warm sunny day and paddle around and just relax. An easy Multi, with my favorite Cache container to finish with. Easily a Favorite point given for this and the other cache here. Filled in another D/T on the 81 matrix with this Find.

Thanks **stooy**

Despite the overcast weather this was a great day to go out paddling with Jacko and OzHockeyChick. We started at 10am and were off the water by lunchtime, having covered 8km criss-crossing Lake Eppalock. Of course caching continued in the surrounding areas well into the afternoon Smile.

We had gathered the required info earlier to pinpoint X. Took us a few minutes at X but the info on the ancient relic could be trusted. What are they anyway? We thought they were a physical WP by the CO but soon realized that pirates have marked their territory elsewhere with a few more of these.
Thanks stooy.

When I saw that Jacko and Pacman were planning a paddle this week, I set about rearranging my work schedule to join them today on this lovely lake.
After picking up the info a short while ago, we headed to where our GPSrs were pointing. We were all walking around in circles starting to doubt our calculations, when pacman suddenly spotted the nicely tucked away cache.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, stooy

Stooy caches:

They could be in Ballarat, Bendigo, Daylesford, or even Eppalock: Where the van lives that week.

You may require a ladder, climbing gear, kayak, sense of humour, agility or a head for heights.

You will most likely be taken to some novel spot that makes you wander how did he know this was here?

When you see his caches you are like Yep - know that is going to be fun!

Keep putting the out Stooy. Love your work.

Cheers

Day two away with my kayak, and heading back to Lake Eppalock to attempt the other four caches, plus a few random caches on the way there and back. I walked from the last cache to this one, grabbed the required numbers, then headed to GZ for another quick find.

Once again, my thanks to stooy for the cache.

After a fantastic day at St Arnaud yesterday, I headed over to do some kayaking caches on Lake Eppalock. I set out on my trusty kayak, and was half way to the first cache when I realised that I left my pen in the car. Now I didn’t fancy my chances of a shop on the island, so I turned around and went back to the car to retrieve my trusty Geocaching tool. Back I paddled, wondering if the fishermen thought I was daft. I soon made my way to the second island, and spent some time working out the multi coordinates. I detoured slightly to pick up shorty’s leg, and then continued on to the final for this one. Yay! My maths was correct! I soon had the cache in hand, log signed and back into position. Now onto the next cache! TFTC stooy

And that's this island done!

Fun fact last time this was found was on 1 sons birthday and the person who found was another sons name. The middle son always misses out!

Another find by the McPhail family.

After helping shorty out off a bit of a predicament we strolled over to this WP. Once there we found we had no paper so i scratched some numbers on the back of my hand, did some sums and off we went to GZ.......or at least that's what we though!!!!! It was pretty obvious we had done something wrong as a little bit of rain would of put this spot under water, we still had a quick search......just in case.
Ok, so now we are back at the car and luckily we have photos from the WP to check on. We soon notice that, minus, that, doesn't equal that. So off we go again, luckily not to far from where we were stopped and this time we managed to locate the container.

06-May-16
Yesterday we spent a great day in Ballarat with another cacher who, in incidental conversation, mentioned the low water levels in many of the lakes inclusing Lake Eppalock. Last evening we checked on some of the caches and noticed in recent logs that numerous finds of the caches on one island had been made without the usual equipment. So today we visited Lake Eppalock and after one false start, we found a way to get to a group of four caches - Shank's Pony over a dry lake bed. It was obvious that many (not necessarily cachers) had driven to the island in the 4WDs but we were reluctant to take our low clearance 2WD - in hindsight the car would have made it easily to the island but would not have negotiated the vegetation on the island.

Data collection at WP1 was straightforward. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find at GZ. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks stooy for the cache.

On our Easter camping weekend out at Majors Creek near Nagambie and today we are headed to Lake Eppalock for some T5 caching with SaharaH99, KH2ici and AngelaChris.
Put the kayak in 4x4 mode today and drove to the cache, still a challenge to find the correct way in.
The target for the day to grab this cache which was nominated for this years Victorian geocaching awards, cool!

Easy to feel like a pirate when a genuine 'X' is used in a multi.
Always like a multi though I did my sums twice just in case as the distance was a tad more than I thought it might be. In the end my sums were correct and the cache treasure was found easily, thus ending my time on these two 'islands'
Cheers

I'd found the required clue at WP1 back in October but for some reason didn't continue to make the final find. I finally returned to the location today to make a quick find after work, shortly before sunset. While it was hot earlier in the day, the temperature was more pleasant by 7.30 and it really was a great time to be here to see the reflection of light from the low sun bouncing off the surface of what little water still remains in the drying lake. Thanks for the treasure hunt which led me to X today, stooy, and thanks for the cache!

15-Dec-15
Despite the heat I thought i couldn't leave one cache to be found on the island. Collected the info and took a photo in case I miscalculated.
Thankfully all went to plan and I found the booty. Headed off home and returned just before Tag-along made it after work.

Find # 2597

Having a long weekend I decided to head off on another of my solo caching hunt trips. My main aim was to go and have a look at some of the caches in and around the Lake Eppalock area .

The day turned out to be a typical Melbourne day, all four seasons. From high humidity, to chilly winds and even a torrential down pour with a few cracks of thunder and a little lightening too boot.

From walking across lake beds to driving down rutted and dusty roads, it was one interesting day.

Got over to the Islands easy enough, but I must say I would be the only one, in a while, that had managed to get wet while hunting all these down. Just as I hit the "island" the storm cell had hit overhead and I was in the middle of a down pour... Dirty Rat.... not me, I was the Drowned Rat taking on the island hopping.
Surprisingly with the heavy cloud cover and trees My GPSr still put me spot on to all cache hides.
I was off the mainland for a good 45min, and I think getting wet for about 30 of that.

TFTC stooy this will be a memorable adventure

I found the ancient relic and following the instructions on the ancient rune I soon had a set of numbers with which to locate the cache.

Still nicely hidden!

26-Sep-15
After finding Shorty's wooden leg, we hobbled over to the other side of the island to discover some fishing party making the most of a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Now how did they get there - deck chairs and all? They didn't notice us so we didn't need Shorty's let to brandish them off!

We did also discover the survey marker thingy. Got the figures then crunched the numbers. Then back through the wattle trees - we decided to go by the shoreline and take our vessel with us until is was orthogonal time again. Then a short hop through the trees to some more open ground and a rather suspicious rock.

Nice to have a Multi on an Island - so a favourite from us (and we rarely give them!)

Found at 12.25 pm on 26th September 2015. TFTC.

After hearing about some recent adventures of fellow cachers, Lake Eppalock was on our radar to try and fill some more D/T combinations. With International Talk Like a Pirate Day upon us, today was the perfect opportunity to set sail and seek our bounty. We had secured the treasures on Token Island and had made sail to the treasures here on Meridan Island. Cacher lore spoke of many treasures hidden on this island and we had already found two treasures. The legend spoken of this final treasure told of a mysterious X to be found, and that those who could solve the mystery would find what they were seeking. Unlike some algebra, this X was easy to find and the mystery was solved to provide us with the secret map. Off to the coordinates and we were soon with the bounty in our hands. A final familiar ‘X’ to record our visit and then we set sail for home with further water faring adventures set for the day.

Thanks for the fantastic group of caches here stooy.

The main aim of my trip to Bendigo today was to go via Lake Eppalock and pick up these caches on the islands. I really enjoyed my walk here today picking up these caches. Collected the necessary numbers and then off to GZ. It is unfortunate that picnickers on the island don't take there rubbish with them Arrived at GZ and surprised to find an ammo can. This was our second day caching in the area on our extended weekend. Razz Today it was a smaller group, only The_Tritonz and myself. We still had puzzles to collect, as well as some other caches with unique D/T combos. Another very rewarding day was had. The weather was on our side as well, even though it did get very cool around tea time. Some great hides were are reward for solving some very tough puzzles. Had an absolute blast in the lake. There were a couple of boats enjoying the water today. TFTC stooy. Big Grin

Up in Bendigo for a 2 day assault in the company of DAB grabbing some good DT caches and pre solved puzzles. We love caching up here admiring your bushland and architecture and with so many in the area we will certainly be back many more times. A fun and easy multi to do here on this great spot.
Thanks for bringing us here stooy.

Found with emthegem, ronnienash and TeamLauren. As others have mentioned the water level is now low enough to walk and drive out to these islands. After finding the nearby cache we walked to the first part of the multi and having soon worked out the new coordinates drove back to the GZ. We were able to get within a few meters of the cache itself. Thanks for the multi.

I had saved stooy's 'pirate' caches on the off chance that one day we might have a boating adventure and be able to explore these islands. Having had success at nearby Picnic Island, however, we figured that we might be able to reach this series of pirate treasures by horseless carriage - and we were right! It is strange to see the GPS plotting your course across what the map shows as water! It is possible to drive to these islands at present as the lake is very low, and park near to each.
It was dusk when we found Shorty's wooden leg nearby, but decided to get the puzzle details for this one and come back the next day. The puzzle was nice and easy to solve and by chance I was able to park the car within 50m of the capstone (which was easy to find). This is the first time I have come across a cache with this type of container and the geokids really liked it.
From here we headed off to find a bottle of rum...

Found by DotG, missed this one when I got the others a while back, although I did get the info I needed. Was fishing on the lake today and not much was happening and although I had a bit of a journey and it was getting late I had a crack. TFTC Stooy, SL TNLN and a fav.

I have had stooy's Eppalock caches on the radar for a while and today I had the chance to get out on the lake and get a few smileys with a nice T rating.
Both the waypoint and the cache were easy finds here, though I did move on to other caches before coming back to the calculated GZ.
The cache was well hidden and safe and secure. Well done stooy. Another impressive cache Smile

A wonderful afternoon out with a friend whom had recently found some of the caches on the near by islands.
Its not very often I get out and complete a multi but sense we were near by, why not??
how often will I get onto this island in the future?

A great days caching with many differing experiences, some where I walked right to the cache and others where I needed to hunt around a bit. As usual I have enjoyed the various challenges set by the CO's and the fact that I get to cache with friends and am outside in the great outdoors.

Many thanks stooy for placing this cache Cool.

I found the first clue and plotted course to the treasure,
But alas my compass and map ink faded.
I had to freshen the ink before retracing my steps to the treasure.
