DSD and I were caching in the area and decided to have a go at this one. We spent far too long searching the wrong area because we went off at 99 degrees to the direction we should have gone. Once we realised this, we went back to the initial location, set off on a different bearing, and soon had the cache in hand. Thanks for the cache, wing6rider and Crystal Warrior We had fun working this one out

Found while attending the Mega event in Canberra over Easter. The trip bit.Easter geocaching festival of twenty twenty four. This time it is the turn of Oz Mega GeoBash MEGA event in the nation's capital. It is time for a road trip across country to Canberra in the Sporty Pajero Sports. Freddo and Gridge98 traveling from Adelaide via a strange inland route that takes in scenic rural locations, dusty roads, punctured tyres, overheating batteries, various tools of the trade, special campgrounds, and lots scope for many many geocaching finds. Along the way we saw running emus, jumping kangaroos, wandering deer, dead foxes, herds of wooly sheep and stray steers.Arriving in Canberra we met our colleagues e.gregory1, featherwaite, team walron, courtney rose, davidwazza, e_smilie, and georode, signing as ABP, plus a huge group of other like minded excited mega geocachers attending event after event, and more events.Day one. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. All logs have been signed as WAC to save space, abbreviation for Western Australia Crew. Cheers wing6rider! Cockburn Crew on tour to the Canberra Mega. Day 1 involved a bunch of caching around Sydney before making our way to Canberra for the Capital Geobash. We found a huge variety of caches, and its great to cache in new territory that we havent explored much in the past. Unlike our home state of Western Australia where we have found just about anything and everything.A beautiful day with great weather and even better company. Thank you to the local COs for a great day in and around this great country of ours.

A bit of fun getting the bearing. Fortunately, a relatively quick find with a retrieval of cache from deep within the knot hole. TFTC

22-Jan-23
After sweet talking my way out of what I had on this morning, I headed to Canberra for a day trip. An event plus a few finds around the centre of Canberra. Unfortunately, I did also have DNF. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and the caching community enjoyment. Big Grin TFTE & TFTC’s! Big Grin

I was wanting a multi-cache find for today and decided on finding this. I wish I had read the description before attempting it, so I knew what I was getting myself into. I arrived at the WP and soon enough had the digits to work out the distance to GZ. Then I was on my way and soon was near my guessed GZ. I was close based off the clues but I just couldn't quite find it. So I tired keeping along the same line and soon enough I saw another spot that fitted most of the clues. This one held the cache. This took about 10 minutes of searching to find. Another cache off the list. Big Grin

#1230 Turtle and I had briefly been past posted coordinates for this one before and counted the cubes. We returned today in hopes of finding it, but boy was that a challenge. We went passed the cubes again to double check everything and even retried our bearings. It was at this point that we couldn’t seem to get a consistent bearing reading between the two of us. It was at this point that we checked the hint.

So now with what looked like great coordinates using the distance to solve the bearing dilemma we headed on our way to GZ. It was here that we were met with road block number two. The cache was no where to be seen. We searched every spot we could and double checked those that matched the hint all through here and couldn’t spot the cache. We did however find the bee hive and the GCA cache that have been mentioned by others.

In a desperate cry for help Turtle got on the horn with a PAF who guided us towards GZ. The cache was quickly found once we were in the right spot. I was still quite curious here so I decided to take a bearing back towards the cubes and a distance and once again a bearing whilst at the cubes towards GZ. The distance matched our sums and the bearing was perfect with that of one that I had collected before. Unfortunately reading the hint here was what stuffed us up, I’m not quite sure they are both the same… or I’m reading the hint wrong.

Regardless it was a good find in the end. Thanks wing6rider and CrystalWarrior for the multi!

#3088 We had a bit of trouble with the final hiding place of this cache. DeadThief and I had agreed on the distance but using our phones we were having a little trouble confirming a bearing. Perhaps due to interference from the cubes. Finally we noticed the clue suggesting that the bearing and distance were the same. At least that solved that argument. Or so we thought. After wandering aimlessly in the bush for well over half an hour checking every possible tree within range of our projection we still couldn’t locate the cache. We did however discover the GCA cache and the beehive noted in two of the images. A PAF was eventually brought into play and a similar GZ was confirmed, however it was suggested we head back toward the road and use a direct line of sight bearing . This rather quickly had us at a tree with the cache in sight deep within its hollow and requiring a small agile hand to retrieve. We were now some 50-60 metres away from where we had previously been searching, and well within DT’s initial bearing and projection. At least we got there in the end. TFTC.

19-Sep-21
I've driven past this so many times in the past, but always been concerned how much work I'd have to do to make the find. I should not have been concerned. Only a bit of counting.
Had some co-ordinates with in a few minutes. Off we went to make the find. Cache all good tucked away in its hidey hole.
Thanks for the cache.

This was fun! Very creative approach to a multi. I got a bit turned around but once I checked the hint and the distance again I was able to make the find. Love this area, so many different trails and tracks! Thanks for the cache!

Great cache and clue. We really enjoyed it. Didn’t have a pen though, so took a photo of the logbook for proof.

I had always wanted to stop here and take a closer look at this sculpture. I really like it.

Found the cache after conversing with the CO. And coming back for a second visit, hiking compass at hand.

It's not quite as nippy as this morning on my first attempt when I was technically still in my pyjamas (+ pants, jumper and jacket) after dropping offspring #1 at work.

I found a new feature on my geocaching app that I had not noticed before, but it only got me to some rather nice potential cache hides, not the cache.

Got the cache in the afternoon when using a less accurate way of getting there.

As part of our exercise program we picked a group of caches that would give the two of us a good continuous walk over a few hours. With one of us living in Yarralumla it was an obvious place to start and finish - all at 2m apart. Meeting my GeoPartner in their home place we picked on three multi-caches nearby starting with 'Art for arts ...', then the 'Vanished Suburb' and finished with Yarralumla Wander'. We walked for 3hrs covering 7.54kms and just 99m of ascent/descent.

Love the art around here. This was a fun cache because the hint, when read out, sounds very contradictory and had us looking in the wrong places. Re-reading the hint with glasses on , after checking every man made object without finding the prize, it took us straight back to our very first GZ laughing all the way. Then it was a quick and easy find. TFTC wing6rider.

Canberra Day 3: Lake Burley Griffin West Loop

Headed out today for another bike ride to find yet more caches in Canberra. The target was the far out AL waypoints and all the little Parks along the way. The ride went swimmingly with a lot of lovely vistas and views of the lake along the way, though slowly but surely, the midday heat started taking its toll. Huffed and puffed up to the National Arboretum visitor centre for lunch, and headed back down to finish off the rest of the circuit. It has been one tiring day, but generally very productive throughout.

This is the specific log for this cache:
Ah, modern art. Nobody quite gets these things... I suppose that comes with acquire taste of something. Australian cities seems to have an abundance of these sort of sculptures. I suppose it comes with the relatively young age of Australian metropolises. Anyway, all that aside, there was a cache to be found and art to be appreciated, so all that was done and the cache was logged. TFTC!

Down from Brisbane for the Clear Waters Mega, with a geocache laundry list carefully compiled for collection during our stay Big Grin. Your cache was one of many found during our short visit.

This was easy to calculate, and with an Oregon GPS it was easy to calculate the offset.
However it took much longer than expected to find the container, it was well away from my calculated zone. Still a relief to find though.

Log signed at 10:57 and cache returned as found . Thanks for adding to my Clear Waters experience and the smilie  **wing6rider & Crystal Warrior**

Out and about on my own in Canberra. I wanted to find the nearby earthcache, so parked the geomobile close by. A quick check of my phone showed a few other caches nearby, so I decided to find them too. I decided to attack this multi first as I was parked almost at the first waypoint. With the information gathered, I set off for a short strall. Once at GZ, the cache was quickly located and the log signed. TFTC

I’ve passed by that statue many times but this was a great excuse to stop and learn about it. I had to look around the GZ for a while and finally found it when I put down the device and used my geosense. TFTH

16-Nov-18
A managed to squeeze in two caches after work today before heading home. I have driven past this one many times now, so I decided to give it a go. I counted everything a few times and took a bearing. In fact if I had stuck to my numbers it would have been simpler, but I made the mistake of looking at the hint. It did not match up for me and took me on a bit of a detour. I returned to a good spot near my GZ and found the cache. An interesting challenge.

Thanks.

Had the day off for an appt then the day was mine. I decided to target as many multi's as I could. Ended up with 8 out of 11 attempted.

Well this was a little frustrating. I clearly need more instruction on how to read a compass.....and that is all I will say.

A pleasant multi, a bit different. As we trudged into the bush, Dan read the hint out "knot in tree..." Sue thought he meant "not in tree." Fortunately, this didn't lead to one of our geo-arguments. TFTC

This was second on tonight's pre-dinner caching excursion. I often worry about these projection type ones but thankfully there was nothing to fear as I soon had the stash in hand at 17:40.

TNLNSL, although our BYO pen geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks wing6rider & Crystal Warrior.

Parking right next to the sculpture I gathered the required info quite quickly, but then had to work out how to protect a waypoint... As it turns out that was a piece of cake and off I wandered for a quick find. Not sure about the accuracy of the hint though as my bearing did not match the metres calculation?
Anyways, thanks for the cache and for prompting me to figure out the projection of waypoints! Big Grin

I admit to attempting to get a head start on this from Street view, but wasn't able to get all I needed. So, after flying down from Brisbane and a day in the office, I headed over here to get another cache. As I had parked right next to this one, I figured I would give it a go... Big Grin

Counting, looking, scanning and gauging, I spotted a rough area and headed in for a scout around. Turns out my judgement was on the money as I found myself right at GZ when the GPS had the right distance... Hey, that was easier than I expected. [^]

I quickly added my name to the log and dropped the container back in place. With that, I shot off to the car as the rain looked threatening again.

Cheers wing6rider & Crystal Warrior.

Geocaching has taken me on many adventures over the years all over Australia and overseas. It has also introduced me to a brilliant and diverse group of people, many of whom are now close friends.

Today I was lucky enough to be out and about so I targeted this cache.

Multis are usually not my thing, so it wasn't surprising to me to find a lot in my found database that hadn't been logged.

Sorry for the late log, but thanks for adding to the adventure!

Thanks wing6rider (F=4501 H=47) (F=5055 H=51) for placing this cache and adding to our game.

After completing the nearby earthcache, micaparamedic and I noticed this one. We decided to try it. We came up with a projection and that's where we headed. Without being successful at first, he tried my tried and true technique for projection caches - go until you are at the correct distance at the correct bearing. He found the cache while I found a container belonging to a different game. We both signed, and then we went and scratched our names off the one I found.

Our travels began when micaparamedic arrived at my place in late July. We visited the Yukon and Northwest Territories in Canada, attended the Mega APE event in Washington, and camped in Oregon to be in the direct path of a total solar eclipse. There were other, shorter trips to find special caches and see geologically related spots of interest before we headed to Australia.

My bucket list has been shortened recently. It had included visiting the Yukon and Northwest Territories, walking around Uluru, seeing some Australian outback, spotting a kangaroo on my own, and seeing the Sydney Opera House. Other desires that came true are riding a train on my 5th continent (Asia happens next February) and a photo of myself at the Tropic of Capricorn on my third, last possible, continent. Many dreams are coming true on what will be just under 3 months of traveling.

Thanks for something to make us think.

I love the public art of Canberra, i remember the controversy about it with lots of fulminating about 'the waste of money'. Canberra felt a lot more boring before we had art dotted everywhere... I love it. Some is truly awful but that is the whole point, its all in the eye of the beholder and no two people are alike. Bring it on I say...the more the merrier.

I have now worked out how to project coords from my device, very easy once you know how. I find the idea that anyone could find this just by marching X metres at Y degrees, there was a fair amount of bush in the way

#3278 A quick park, calculate and grab between two social engagements today. I did not have much time so a single stage multi was perfect. I can't say I've ever noticed this artwork before. Cubism I assume ?
Wandered over to gz and commenced the search, but took a few minutes to locate the right spot.

Was out in the area with dty73 and found the information needed for this was very easy to collect. So easy actually I'm not sure why I put it off for so long! Made the mistake of crossing the road too early and took us off the course but seems not the only one as we found the GA cache that a few others had found also. Changing course I followed the line of distance along and found a likely location as described. On the walk back noticed our error with walking off in the wrong direction from the art, easier to spot heading back to it! Thanks for the cache wing6rider & Crystal Warrior!

We attempted this one many moons ago and have been reluctant to return but today I was in the area and thought I would give it another go. An easy find today, even if my bearing was still a bit out! Not sure why we struggled so much last time. Thanks wing6rider & Crystal Warrior

Still on my calendar streak, but the unfound caches around the inner south are dwindling!! This one looked like an enjoyable Thursday evening grab. Quick calcs, but then spent a bit too long fiddling around with projections. Should've just lined up the path and counted out steps. But, I did reach my destination and found the container quickly in an obvious spot. And, avoided getting too many spider webs on my suit pants!!! TFTC wing6rider

I had to go to Parliament House for something this morning, so I had parked over in Yarralumla (right beside the cubes - lol) and ridden my bike to Parliament House (in the rain - lol) with plans to possibly ride somewhere along the lake shore later ... I kind of ended up wandering around Parliament House doing touristy things after doing what I had gone there for (had been a while since I had been inside there) then, because the weather was still a bit yucky and looked like it may rain again soon, I decided to head back towards the car and maybe find a cache or 2 over that way, (and I also grabbed one in an odd little park near Parliament House on my way Smile
I then ended up riding past my car and starting a multi in the drizzle and cold wind, but my phone battery went flat and I had left the power pack thingy in the car ... so I went back and plugged my phone in to the car while I packed up my bike/etc, then it was a bit less wet and windy, so I figured that seeing I was parked right near the cubes I may as well have a go at this one - found it (and the GA one) then I ended up wandering around a hardware store I had not been to, before going and finding 3 more caches out near the airport because I had gone out that way for the cheap fuel (including a mystery one that I was able to solve quite quickly while sitting in the car in the carpark at the hardware shop Smile ... and I got home after dark - lol
TFTC - quite an interesting wander around (and around and around Smile in a nice interesting patch of bush ... counted things and worked out the distance, got my bearing and guesstimated that a tree I could see was about the right distance ... but when I got there it wasn't quite ... so I kept heading in what I hoped was the same direction (almost, but not quite - lol) and I wandered around looking for things that matched the hint ... found a few, but none had a cache - lol ... then I found a rather large something that didn't match the hint ... thought it was a bit weird that it didn't, until I looked inside and realised I too had found the GA cache by mistake - lol ... so I signed that log and replaced it, and continued looking for this one ... and I also found the beehive with the honeycomb inside ... there were also a few bees around/in there, but I did get close enough for a sort of half ok photo Smile
I was starting to wonder if I had messed up the maths and got the distance wrong, but I decided that my answer might be OK, but my bearing was quite possibly a bit out, and I was probably just a bit too far in to the bush/up the hill - so I sort of did what Tikva NZ said he did (started searching my way along a sort of line of possible directions at the distance I had worked out) - and eventually got the same result - found the cache just as I was about to run out of places to look (and phone battery, again - lol) ... in fact I almost didn't look there - lol - I was thinking it had to be between where I had started looking, and the very recently broken tree nearer to the road ... but it kind of sort of wasn't ... quite - lol

After the May the 4th (+3) Event. The Ridgeo-pup adores a bit of Street Art. I wasn't sure I'd be able to work this one out. But it was satisfyingly straight forward. Found Loci612 and Ambi666 lurking in the shrubbery at GZ and then I wandered off to find some nearby GCAs. Thanks for the cache wing6rider.

We pulled up and quickly counted the blocks and got a good looking number. Headed off and joined up with ZimbaW who was already at GZ as she was a bit ahead of us Smile

The cache was quickly found however we were initially confused and thought it was a GCA cache, but then worked out it was the one we were looking for and the GCA one was still 40m away Razz

Thanks wing6rider, a nice multi and interesting art

The directions were explicit, but it still took us s bit of time to find the cache. In the end it was quite obvious. Note, it is a tight fit in its hidey hole, and if you have big hands you may have a problem. TFTC

I thought I found this last weekend, but it turned out I found a GCA cache instead, so today I returned for another go. My projected co-ords proved to be out somewhat as I couldn't find the cache. As I was walking back to the car keeping the distance from the posted co-ords as accurate as I could, I came across something that matched the hint perfectly. And there was the cache. TFTC.

Well I thought I found it - but it turns out I found a GCA cache instead. I'll back soon to rectify this and turn this back into a found log.

After a family Fish & Chip lunch at the Yacht Club, I headed off to find some nearby caches. The information was easily collected, and GZ calculated. The cache was quickly found, but was rather exposed, so I left it with more covering. TFTC.

# 10333. A very early start this morning as we drove to a parking spot by the lake and then it started to rain. The intention was to ride to The Event in town and then continue to cache by bicycle around the lake. It turned into a very pleasant sojourn and quite a warm afternoon. We had to leave quite a few caches as muggles were a real problem today.

This is where we parked the car so it was our first cache of the day. We soon had this sorted and the log to hand. Signed and now to make our way into town.

Thanks wing6rider

Day eighteen of the Southern NSW Lounge About with BettyBoo3747.
Fired up the deadly treadlies and rode into town for the Good Friday event - very quiet roads!
Not so in the afternoon! We rode part of the way around the lake and with the sun, the muggles started swarming! We had to walk away from several caches.

Parked nearby and then the rain started! Fortunately, it didn't last too long, just long enough for us to ride into town!
Anyway, we did our counts and set off for parts unknown.
BB made a quick find.
Interesting sculpture (wouldn't have recognized it as DNA though)
Thanks, Robmc.

#996. 62 days in a row.

I had originally been thinking of picking up the ACT 1000 Club series as my last 16 caches to reach 1000 myself, but the rain yesterday and predicted for today put the kibosh on those plans. Fortunately I'd been given another suggestion for my 1000th cache which turned out to be more practical to plan around. I picked up this cache as one of my fillers on my way to 1000.

Team Omam from the Netherlands has only one aunt left. And as she will have her 100th birthday early February, we decided to join the birthday party. But …., she lives in Sydney Australia! An excellent opportunity for us to explore this continent once again and find Geocaches along the way. We will do a 3.5 weeks trip! At places where we will stay for a few days (Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Darwin), we will organize Meet and Greet events. We will try to find mainly caches with high favorite points, caches from 2000 and 2001, earth caches, webcam caches, virtuals and letter box hybrids.

15/11 . We decided to have a go at this one today with a bit of sunshine on our side. Eventually found the cache after walking an arch, projections are always fun. We stumbled on a bee hive in one tree and got a nice close up photo of the honey comb, could even smell the honey! We have always loved this bit of art work and the cache made good use of its dimensions. TFTC

I jogged over to this from work on Wednesday and did the calculations. I was having trouble projecting the waypoint with my phone, but the read the hint and it put me somewhere close, but not close enough to find the cache. I fired off and email to the CO who corrected my mistake, but I'm still not sure what that hint means.

Armed with the correct info I jogged the 3km back over to GZ from work in a break from the rain on Friday. I was worried about not taking a pen, but thought I would risk it on a small. Turns out I should have brought one. I ended up scratching my initials on the log with a muddy stick and took a photo of the container for good measure.

Thanks Win6Rider.

Had an eye on this for a while and seemed like a nice afternoon for it. Off we went and just as we got halfway to gz a HUGE hare bounded off. Seriously as big as a cattle dog. Then we took 10 more steps and a massive fox came to see what the fuss was about. Eventually found gz and made a quick find. Tftc, we enjoyed this one and got more than we bargained for

Out caching with Legocacher on a slightly damp Sunday morning. Have driven past the art work but nice to stop and actually look at it. Went for a stroll and found the cache. Beware of rampaging bull ants. TFTC.

Found today with Chakram... it was raining as we drove to Yarralumba to start our walk along the lake to do some geocaching, but that wasn't enough to deter us from getting a few more smileys. TFTC.

Had a go at this one whilst the missus was at orienteering about 2 kilometres away.

Drove up and immediately thought of wrecked cars. Not impressed with this thing to be called art. I just don't get it.

Walked off and wandered around, found the Yarra Hollow cache listed on geocaching Australia but not this one. Decided I was wandering too far to the right so altered my attack and soon located it. I like these sort and worth a fav. TFTC.

Stopped off here with the family to eat dinner and take in the views of the lake, when I realised I really needed to go and inspect the artwork and take a short stroll. I counted A a few times, just to make sure I had the right total, took my sights, and off I went! Nice easy find, right where it was advertised!

Thanks wing6rider & Crystal Warrior!

This one was the last one for the day on my after work wind down caching stroll.

Pulled up to the first waypoint and did the necessary calculations. So then after that, that's when the fun started lol

The compass on my GPS was playing up so I just could not hone in on one particular spot. So after a while of traipsing around I had to go back, take another sighting and then estimate the distance. So off I went to where I thought it might be. Once there, I saw the likely hiding spot which then revealed the cache Smile

Thanks for the neat multi, wing6rider Smile

Found at 1145. I've had this one on the radar for quite a while, and today seemed as good a day as any to finally knock it off.

I rode up from the Limestone Quarry Earthcache and was greeted at GZ by the clap of wings, which meant I spent half my time counting and the other keeping an eye on the black and white bandit perched overhead.

With all the numbers crunched I sited along the line and picked a feature to aim for, then rode a guesstimated distance - apparently not far enough. I continued past a nice looking feature then double-checked the GPSr - darn, too far. Maybe my brain is imperial....

I walked the bike back to the feature I'd passed which turned out to be bang-on the distance I'd calculated, and the cache was in hand shortly after. I signed the log and dropped off a maze pathtag, then headed back to the road and on my way home. Thanks for the cache wing6rider & Crystal Warrior.

I was surprised at finding this one so easily. I stopped at the requisite distance looked around and thought there would be a good spot and there it was.

If you find Yarra Hollow GA2117, you are 46.8m, bearing 37.8 degrees to Art for Art Sake! Enjoy the bonus cache!

BEWARE there is a geocaching Australia cache very close by called Yarra Hallow which is on the ground - see the photo - if you find it you HAVEN'T found Art for Arts Sake!

Didn't find the cache today, found the GCA one instead (with AngelG27). Will be back to find it sometime soon!

NOT found on a lunchtime visit with Electra48 Sad looks like we found a CGA cache instead - which was nice, but not the plan. Unfortunately the SE direction in the description and calculated metres put us almost exactly on top of the GCA cache... Will come back and get this one sorted soon! Nice exercise though.
