After a crazy year, it’s time to get away for a bit of R&R, and of course a cache or two.
Day five: BSRT - Smythesdale to Linton.

Little sister found it before us and found a spider on the tub bit of a scare but worth for the reward.
Tftc high rod. This containers lid is broken so log will soon be wet when it rains loads. Found while enjoying a couple of km on the bicycle and loving the sunshine.
Quick find, still has a damaged lid but followed the previous finder and placed back upside down. Cheers for the cache!
Container lid is cracked have replaced upside down. Heading to St. Arnaud for the mega event. Day 68 of our trip. Caching along the way. A total of 2 for the day and 1888 for the trip. TFTC
Met up with JooJoo57 for a day of caching and enjoyed every minute. We chose some of the easier to get to rail trail caches and enjoyed the walk down to this one. TFTC
TFTC. We are enroute to our daughter in Newport. We do not do big mileages in the Motorhome as we found it better to explore doing shorter distances. We camped at Smythesdale Gardens for an overnighter. The bike has not seen much action of late so I (Hans) decided to ride the BSRT down to Scarsdale and collect caches along a section of the trail. Except for being swooped by a magpie had a good time . Thanks to the COs for placing and maintaining the caches along the trail for our enjoyment.
LeeLee teamed up with AusFox; today with the goal to hit the BSRT trail from Smythesdale picking up a few unclaimed smilies from the last visit plus more.
Perfect weather, company and a great trail made for a lovely day.
This area of the track is brining back memories. We must have been tired last time to peddle past.
Thanks highrod for the series and another reason to come back.

I teamed up with LeeLee of Crack'n'LeeLee to work our way along a section of the Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail covering 14.5km. The trail was in better than some of the dirt roads we ventured along.
The weather was perfect for the ride with great company.
Log signed and replaced as found.

My first day out geocaching in Ballarat on this trip. Found this cache while taking a bite here and there of the BSRT PT attempting the ones that were with in a short walk of a road. A quick walkup find. TFTC.
Our apologies for the generic logs, they do not mean that we think any less of the caches or the placement of them.
Today we have decided to camp here at Smythesdale for a few days and go cache hunting in the area plus head into Ballarat to have a look around. We enjoyed the walk along the trail, we met with an interesting man walking two dogs who told us that about 100 meters ahead a snake had had a go at his dog. He also mentioned that the trail is known for there being quite a few snakes along it, so we picked up a nice sized stick to hopefully protect ourselves if needed and there was no need we did not see any snakes. All caches that we found today are in condition but one which we have put a maintenance log on. SL TFTC

It has been ages since we (BettyBoo3747 and I) came to Ballarat and completed the BSRT. Since then it has grown somewhat, but we hadn't returned. This weekend we have teamed up with Chewin (Howard from Howjen567) to correct this oversight.
We started with a DNF at Linton, but after that our luck improved and we collected most of the caches available.
A love ride along the tree lined route. We managed to avoided the weather until the very last cache, and even then only got a bit damp.
Thanks, Robmc.

#14040. Our first full day of caching in the area. We met Howard of Howjen567 at Smythesdale and headed to Linton to ride the BSRT back to Smythesdale. We picked up a neat 50 on the trail with 2 DNF's. We logged our first find at 9.30am and the last find at 12.50pm. The weather was perfect for riding and we managed to stay ahead of the rain until about the last 500 metres into Smythesdale. The temperature also plummeted to a chilly 17 degrees in a matter of minutes.
It was an absolutely fantastic ride and the first find of the morning brought my total cache finds to 14,000 so that was a great start to the day. It is a pity it wasn't the one at the start of the trail at the station but alas that seems to be missing in action with a string of DNF's to its name.
I remember thinking what is sneaky here and where is the lookout. However, we obviously found it, signed it and continued on. I left a pathtag here and took the pathtag that was residing here.
Thanks Highrod

Day 2 riding the BSRT, after coffee and cake for afternoon tea, on our way back to Linton. Our last for the day this end was not as enjoyable as Linton end of the trail - a couple of hints would be appreciated to allow more time enjoying the ride and less aimless hunting. TFTC
Finally found some time to have a go at this trail today... something I've always wanted to do even before i discovered geocaching but now have a bigger reason to do it. Jumped on the deadly-treadly and made it from Alfredton to Nimmons Bridge in Scarsdale. Over 40 caches found which is one of my highest find days so far and 3 DNF'S. Thx to all the CO's for putting caches along here for us to find.
Unusual GZ! Not the first place i looked! Natural looking enough though so i guess that's all it has to be! Tftc highrod!

Tftc, may have to call it quits for today as the nut has come off the pedal assembly on my bike and keeps falling off, grrrrrr.
Found at 1.30pm after having lunch in Scarsdale. A most enjoyable trip down a railway memory lane.

Lookout for ants, there are plenty here. Happy to return this cache quickly. TFTC Highrod.
Out and about on a rail trail expedition with Jascat and Mark9375. Nice hide. TFTC.

TFTC! Cache alive with very busy ants, must be going to rain. Signed log after fighting off unhappy ants.
What a beautiful tree near here - just the right time of year to enjoy the blossom as we wandered the trail looking for caches. The cache was a quick find and nice and easy. Thanks for placing it here.
Found while out on the bike today with Tommyh200 to try and do as many caches in this series on the Ballarat - Skipton Rail Trail. A great day was had and many logs signed. Thanks to all cache owners for the placement of this series. And thanks for the cache.
Out on a lovely Friday caching with stashaa on the BSRT between Scarsdale and Linton with the bikes. This was the third one for the day. Thank you to everyone who was involved with the placing of the caches on the Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail. This is a great series do do either by foot or wheels. TFTC TFTH highrod.
12:52:00 PM. Back walking the trail. A cooler day with some showers around. A good day to be out walking as it wasn't too hot. We thought this one was gone because at GZ we found an empty ziplock bag. A bit of a search and we found the cache all good minus the log bag. Signed log and replaced back in back. It was a theme on many caches today where the log hadn't been put back in it's bag and the bag was in the cache. It isn't that hard or time consuming to do the right thing. Thanks highrod for placing this cache.
The aim for today was to go to the furtherest point on the rail trail and work our way back to see how far we'd get. Only doing the ones we can get to easily from access points as we're walking. We had one DNF for the day and hopefully all the walking can counteract some of the overindulgences of our holiday. Apologies for the generic logs. TFTC
Lovely Sunday afternoon ride from Smythesdale to Linton planned to finish off the BSRT series. Got stuck a few times and PAF help required to keep moving and reach pickup point by 6pm. Many thanks to all COs - Gemmasistema, Wozzle68, ST37E, Fergzter and highrod for the many and varied hides along the way. This one logged at 1.05pm
The 3FW's from SA have invaded Ballarat and headed for the BSRT. Find, sign, cycle, repeat... Saturday was a great day to be on the trail. Fog at the beginning and the sun just coming out at the end. We found all of the caches except two. One was missing and we left a replacement log. The other was just too good for us. You can't find them all.
Day 2 of our caching trip to Ballarat with Freddo and Team Waldron, we had an ejoyable ride along this trail finding the caches as we went, logs were signed 3FW to save space in the log books.TFTC
Heading over to Ballarat for a caching weekend and picking up a few caches on the way.
We managed to find about 230 caches in 3 days/ot bad work for 3 old guys
This series was why we came over to Ballarat.
We woke to a misty day and luckily it stayed overcast until we finished.
It was interesting to see the cache hides change as the hiders changed. We weren't fans of the bison tubes in the trees but that's the way it goes sometimes.
We missed a few but it didn't matter too much as there are lots more to find.
Thanks for an excellent series.

Final one for along this part of the trail, and a nice big cache well hidden into the local environment. TFTC
I bumped into a fire looking vehicle out here yesterday and passed another one here today. Thanks for the hide.
Left Melbourne yesterday, and set up camp at the Creswick Caravan Park.
After Alansee and Team Crackers arrived, we enjoyed the open fire place in the camp kitchen.
Today we headed out on the bikes, to attempt another section of the rail trail.
Once again, we were not disappointed with the variety of good quality hides.
A fun day was had, in the company of good friends.
Many thanks for placing this series of caches, highrod, for us and others to find.

Camping at Creswick for the weekend with The Drovers & Alansee with one of the main aims being to grab some of this rail trail whilst alansee & The Drovers finished it off.
We started at Barbed Burl and worked our way right through to Linton.
We really enjoyed the ride although the head wind was a bit annoying at times and we were happy that we only had one DNF for the whole lot although some did have us looking for quite awhile.
We all enjoyed the variety of hides and some of the fantastic scenery that we saw along the way.
We are really looking forward to returning to complete the rest.
Thanks for the series, we apologize for the generic log, there were too many in a short amount of time to remember them all individually.

Quick find with Tassie expat while exploring this great area. Thanks for placing these caches.
We are staying in Smythesdale for a couple of nights. Being conveyed to Linton to do the BSRT back to Smythesdale plus grab a couple of others. Most grateful that I included the "LRT" (log recovery tool) in my pocket as it came in handy to retrieve several logs from their caches. The ride was pleasant, cool enough for no wriggly-sticks.
Trying to make a note for each cache with an average spacing of about 200M on one's own when cycling is virtually impossible and to recall each of dozens of caches at the end of a day just wouldn't happen. Sorry for the generic logs.
It is great (we don't think so) that we cannot get NBN and have to use mobile data internet. Our service either goes "down" to at best very slow. Sometime soon my finds of 12/10/2015 will all be logged.
Thanks to cache owners for the experience.
Enjoyed the flora and fauna along the trail.
Have just had a reality check - solo riding on a cache bombed trail is far more time consuming than estimated. From here on if a hide is not quickly found, it will be logged as a DNF to ensure the clock does not well and truly get me into further "time debt"!

Another fine plan from LousieAnn to tackle the Smythesdale to Linton section of Ballarat to Skipton Rail Trail and hunt the caches along the way. We arrived with 6 bikes and 4 cars so once we had headed to leave my car at the end point for later we were off. A bumper day of 61 finds for me including 54 finds and 3 DNFs on or near the rail trail. We had the luck of a beautiful spring day and tee-shirt heat as we pedalled our way through this very pleasant countryside.
I was first to this one but it was a dubious honour as the hiding spot was covered in ants. I retrieved the cache and signed to get out of there as quickly as possible. As I picked my sunnies back up they were covered in ants resulting in needing to flick them off for the next few minutes and some bad ant-related punning. Thanks to highrod for the cache and this excellent series and thanks to my companions for great company on a fun day of caching.

Boy!! were there some ants at this cache. They were everywhere!! the Tarbit, who made the find, bore the brunt of them, but all the hunters had some on them, myself included. We picked this cache up at 12:20pm.
SirJ-Oz, Annoying Tarbit and I hatched a plan to head to the east and pick up some of the caches along the Ballarat to Skipton Rail Trail. I had been here just over 2 years previously with group to collect the first half, so it was well time to come and collect the rest. gmj3191 (a member of the previous group) and BernieH also joined us, along with non-caching Pam.

Find #2135. Found @ 12:21 with LouiseAnn, Annoying Tarbit, gmj3191 (and PamJ), and BernieH.
Today was all about the BSRT series from Smythesdale to Linton. This was find #13 of #55, with #2 DNFs thrown in for good measure.
I stopped to take a photo of a wading bird between the previous cache and here, so was a little late to the party.
Annoying Tarbit made the find here of both the cache, and a myriad of ants. This precipitated some ant puns, the best was "I'll need some ant-i inflamitories" from the cache finder himself.
Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.

Today was spent cycling the Smythesdale to Linton section of the Ballarat to Skipton Rail Trail.
Our group was composed of LouiseAnn, BernieH, Sir J-Oz, Annoying Tarbit and wife Pam.
We had a great time. I haven't kept detailed notes on all finds but one or two stood out for a special mention.
It was a magnificent day, getting up to about 18 degrees, and for the most part was sunny with no wind. We generally felt this section was a bit more interesting than the previous section which most of us rode about two years ago.

Well a few days in Ballarat has turned into a fortnight.
Today though it was time to say Goodbye to Ballarat (well almost) as we moved to Smythesdale.
Was nearly 2pm before we jumped on our bikes to tackle some more of the BSRT.
We saw lots out and about today, including ........... wait for it.............. Some sunshine! [:o)]
Also saw lots of horses, cows, sheep, goats, dogs, muggles and even a dead fox.
The weather was fairly mild compared to what it's been so a very enjoyable cycle ride until the sun disappeared at dark o'clock then the last little bit of the ride was very chilly.

We set out today to finish the BSRT series. We parked at Careys Rd and unhitched the push bikes. The forecast was for showers and we came prepared.Luckily the rain didn’t eventuate. Quick find thanks.
A day out to earn a few more smilies with Shamus1, Cherad, Mi5sie & 08151605, caching the BSRT from Newtown to Smythesdale. It was my first time caching with geo-kiddies and what a difference! They were happy to do the scrambling, climbing and crawling. I think I might loan a couple next time I go caching! Geokiddies raced off to the necessary clambering. TFTC
