Absolutely amazing event! WOW!
Such a surreal experience with lights dancing forever thru the trees looking like some epic movie set of the Hobbits, really well done, great night out, again, very hard to top!
Thanks.

Thanks.
Awesome! Had a few falls but overall had heaps of fun. And I also met heaps of new people. My night was magnificent.
Thanks so much to all who attended - through darkness and sheer numbers of you it's hard to know exactly who came but I'm certainly enjoying reading your logs!
After planning this event for a while we thought we were well prepared - but after rushing back from the flash (light) mob, (well trying to rush. We were a little held up. In a traffic jam. Of our own doing!) we discovered we may well have a few more people than we anticipated (about triple!).
The advance team had been left to decorate the cache site with eyes , aliens, ballons etc - so everything would be ready when we got back. A phone call when we were about halfway there from one of the team though said, "we have everything inflated and ready to go. But. When you get to the fork, which way should we go, i think we're lost" (frantic fumbling for coords from me) "have you got your GPS ready?" "umm no, we left them all at the car"
After quicjly giving some tips on how they might get back to the car, we nervously looked at the large convoy on cachers, then at each other, and then uttered a number of four letter expletives.
A new plan formed that had Furbies run off into the forest and help the team get set up, me corral the visitors and start with briefings - but with the traffic the caches would be published just minutes after we arrived. A frantic email to curglaff to request a slight publication delay solved that and we arrived back at the site in a long line of cars.
It was all hard work, but so much fun and we got to meet lots of other cachers - most of whom seemed to enjoy our event and our night caches. Hope you all had as much fun as we did!

Was up in Auckland for the mega and popped out to collect some caches in the area. This cache was easy to find because of the huge number of cachers in the area. Thanks for another cache and getting me out and about. I had a great time at the mega and these caches added to the experience.
This was a most memorisable night cache. Loved it and all the effort put into it

A caching adventure in the dark with excited children, always a challenge! Thanks to the organisers, a lot of effort gone to. Our Nano loved flicking the switch! Thanks for the experience.
Sincere apologies for the very late log. Found on my NZ MEGA (Auckland 2013) trip with mtbikeroz, my Dad. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time travelling around Auckland and the North Island, going on some great walks and adventures and finding some great caches. Apologies again - if you have any queries or questions, please contact mtbikeroz direct via his profile. (all our finds are on the same date) Thanks.
THAT WAS FUN !

an amazing night of fun and adventure had by all. thank you so much as the best ever night caching Ive done. was a great team event too. sorry for such a late log. just going thru some old notes and see this was left unlogged. fav point from me .
Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.
We followed the masses out to Muriwai and took part in this great event! TFTE!

Attended with Reveurs, Anastriel, and Small Pooka. We didn't complete the caches because we decided that with so many people we were losing the atmosphere of the night caches. But it was great to see the glowing eyes and we got a private showing of the interactive video at the end. We will definitely be back soon to do the 3 night caches. We got the best of both worlds, we got to see what the event was about and will experience the night caches how they are meant to be experiences. Thanks for the Event. Very happy we attended.

My mega NZ MEGA 2013 Trip!! Split into two halves - first, the journey up, and then the second half was the actual MEGA time.
This was the second half. After relocating a rental car to get up here, I now had 6 days in Auckland.
What a great adventure!!! There were some points when we had to let those in front of us get a bit futher ahead so we too could see reflector tags, but a fantastic evening, with some fantastic company!!
Love how the guards thought there was boy racers going down to the beach for a burnout... yes, because boy racers have flags like that in their cars and they drive campervans and hire car hatchbacks and 4WD's... suuuure... lol.
Thanks tooooons for organising!!
Sorry about the not as epic logs - but otherwise I would still be logging till Christmas - and that's Christmas 2014 I mean! Haha.

This was definitely one of the highlights of our visit to Auckland for the Mega event. We had never done any night caching before so we were real newbies. Luckily we were in the first group that set off so we had to rely on observation to work out where we were suppose to be going, rather than just following the torches ahead of us. Thank you so much to all of those who put in a huge effort to make this event such fun.
Wow! This was a huge event! Very well set up and really enjoyed the extras put on. Great time had be me!
Awesome night, well done on organising the event and managing with the unexpected number of night cachers who arrived, had lots of fun and loved the creativity that added to the experience
Crazy nighttime caching adventure, the COs must have had palpitations when they saw the numbers but did well to get everyone through the night.

When Rosmar asked me if I wanted to take part in the night caching I thought why not, and just as well they were driving because I was lost within a few minutes of leaving the flash (light) mob. That was some drive over but we arrived and joined in the crowd. I'd heard of this beach before but had never visited the area. I still didn't get to see the beach, but it's a very long story lol.. what an interesting adventure this was. Loved the Aliens, and the bombing at the end was even better.
Awesome night-cacheing adventure out in the forest and dunes. The 'race-to-Muriwai' was an adventure in itself. Had a great time, and managed to get in a good group of (very) experienced cachers for the Multis and puzzle. A huge amount of effort must have been put into setting this up, so well done to all.
Would be a vastly different experience on your own, rather than with hundreds of other cachers. May have to come back another time if/when we're back up in Auckland.

Attended with Chosen1978 on Mega Trip. Great drive out to Murawai in convoy with loads of cachers. Great to see so many here. The organisers did excellent job. Awesome!!
What a crazy idea, perfectly suited for a bunch of geocachers! Never though I'd make this one, and I think I might have added a zombie (=myself) to the aliens just for good measure Thanks so much for organising!!

[green] It's times like these that you want to award favourites on events. Except that it is the caches here, not the event that warrant the favourites, and anyway, favourites are about bringing other people back - not possible on a one day only event. This event and its associated night caches were just awesome! and I got to use my UV torch for its first time . Thanks, PhantasmNZ, for an incredibly well put together theme,
Arrived here well before dark to assist with the setup and in doing so probably had one of the better caching times in a long time (and there's been plenty of good ones lately).
Our merry little gang was charged with helping to create some atmosphere and with no one else in the forest (or so we thought) we got to experience a lot of the ambiance that was missed when the masses turned up.
To see the behind the scenes effort that went into this one was something else, thanks for this event - you guys are awesome!

Arrived to the place for the event when it already had been dark. The first we saw was a queue of cars. When getting out of the car there was a huge number of people with flashlights.
The event was very well organized so we had some amazing hours in the forrest and on the dunes together with our team.
Thank you so much for this very special night when we meet alians.

Had been doing Kiwicouple's SMILE trail earlier in the day, the Convoy cache/song sprung to mind as we made our way to Muriwai.
Mega night caching in Muriwai :
Cachers, did you hear the call ?
Join us for a night time ball ....
Cos we got a caching convoy
Rockin' through the night.
Yeah, we got a little ol' convoy,
Ain't she a beautiful sight?
Come on and join our convoy
Ain't nothin' gonna get in our way.
We gonna roll this cachiin' convoy
All the way to MUR- I -WAI ! !
Wow! what a night. People everywhere. The Aliens were brave tonight. This is a an event I will remember for a long time. thanks for all the night time activities !

what is the easiest way to find your way to an event, follow the flags, not ones on the side of the road but on all the cars heading in the same direction, well done to everyone involved organising the event, a great night
An evening full of surprises and heaps of fun - thanks to all the organisers for a fantastic evening.
I had a great time meeting some aliens while out on the night caches! Thank you for all of your work putting this event/caches together.
An excellent well organised event - clearly someone has far too much time on their hands:)
As with most people we were running a little late but as we always say "Better late than never"
We were rippin it up in NZ with Skullracing, Troobloo and Kiara001 on a caching bonanza!
A Mega Night Caching adventure......YES IT WAS!!!
We commend everyone that was involved in creating such an awesome evening filled with creativity and not only did we have a ball, everyone we spoke to did as well!!
A favourite from us [^] Cheers!

Following the Flash (light) Mob event at Albany we made our way to Murawai along with hundreds of other cachers keen to experience the night event. Luckily we were ahead of the crowd so we were able to park close to base to get our important instructions on what we needed to do to retrieve the vital clues to successfully complete the mission. This was a well thought out night event that obviously took a lot of planning to implement. Well done guys.
We were a little late arriving for this one. Seems that there was a train of vehicles
heading here from the flashmob event in town.
Found a spot to park and stood waiting for our time for our brief.
Brief received, gear on hand we wandered off. Luckily one of our crew
came fully prepared and had it all. Solving stages we advanced to meet crews coming back, finished
already we thought. Nope, they had just wandered off following others and had to return to arm
themselves with the correct stuff to advance. Their loss.
We thoroughly enjoyed this night cache and the effort of the organisers and assistants is greatly appreciated. Completed the caches one by one and got the info for the last cache as well.
I wonder what the cops thought of all the traffic in, then all the traffic out.
Great night.

#4825 We have to fess up - we were one of the guilty ones that didn't think that we would make it to this event so didn't log our intention, our apologies for that.......but it seems that we weren't the only ones . No wonder the organisers were a little overwhelmed with the turnout with 54 intentions and over 113 attendances at the time this log was submitted. But WOW we wouldn't have missed it for the world - it was a huge amount of fun . Despite the throngs of people we thought that the organisers managed extremely well ensuring that reasonable sized groups headed out in the great unknown and kept us on track. We had the pleasure of tagging along with Squalid, Coruze, TrooBloo and Kiara001 - The GeoPrincess had skullboy lit up like a beacon and led the way. We managed through various terrains and alien encounters, decrypted messages and found boxes in the bush - it was brilliant. We had fun the entire journey - our group had such a great sense of humour & Squalid had all the gear we could ask for to get us to the end. If we could favourite this event, we would. Well done to PhantasmNZ and your numerous assistants who were more than helpful in this epic event. Fantastic effort!! Cheers from Australia [^]
PS: Thanks so much for changing the attribute to a night cache - you rock!!

Reperio at 2100 with Albida33 and Sol de lune.
With one night event down, it was on to this one, and while it was a little out of the way...it was certainly well worth the drive to get here. With some new caches published that kept everyone entertained, it was a great night.
Gratias PhantasmNZ.

We had left the Flash (Light) Mob event ahead of the crowd and were among the first to arrive. Spotted a long convoy of cars approaching, so one of us grabbbed a torch and started directing traffic into parking places. Then it was time to join a group for the next part of the night's activities. Thanks.
A really fun event, there was clearly a lot of effort put into it.

A hugely fun and very well organised night event and series of caches. Thanks for going to all effort.
New Zealand 2103 trip for the Auckland Mega at Albany. Day 16, In Auckland Region, Northshore. NZ Mega Auckland Day 1 then caching with Sol de Lune and Marcus Vitruvius. Wow ! The events in one day. We missed the police visit, but leapt straight into the caches. We were very impressed by the scope of the three caches out here we managed to tonight. Not everything went to plan, as although getting the numbers out was simple enough, we went to the wrong one first and took quite a challenging route. Thanks.

From start to finish this was an adventure - trawling trade me for alien paraphernalia on a daily basis (including finding someone based in Chch that could deflate and post an 8 foot one up to Auckland for us), my first trip to the army surplus store in K Rd (such a dangerous place, pretty sure I could have stayed there for a few more hours if they weren't shutting and throwing us out), finally being allowed to buy my onesie (Furbies made an exception to his no onesies rule, only coz it was camo), night bush walks sticking fire tacks on trees and then re-tracking our steps to make sure they could actually be seen from where they needed to be seen from...
And then of course the event itself - with a lot more attendees than we had expected we were a little worried that the experience might be lost in the hundreds of flashlights, but walking around during the event and chatting to people it was clear that everyone was getting a little something out of the event - whether it be learning some night caching skills so that they could have the confidence to try a night cache in their area, inspiration to set up another night cache for us all to enjoy, or simply just enjoying a walk through the bush on a beautiful clear night. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to organise a part of the NZ Mega 2013

A super idea and so well executed. Not sure what "Five Eyes" would have made of all the goings on though, a massive spike in unexplained activity out at Muriwai recorded at Waihopai tonight. A really enjoyable experience. Thanks for the organisation put in; in setting it up. Cheers and TFTE.
We really enjoyed the huge amount of effort that went into this event. We're keen night cachers and even keener night cache hiders, and you still came up with some concepts for night caches that we haven't considered! The huge number of attendees made it a bit chaotic and harder to keep track of where we were going, but that added to the fun. In the end we skipped the third bonus cache as it was just too hard to get the answers with so many people vying for the "devices"- but that hardly mattered, as the first two were more than enough fun. Thankyou for also showing us the final show - impressive does not quite capture it. Came away with slightly flattened torch batteries, a few new night cache ideas and a sense of achievement - thankyou!
I'm visiting from Melbourne for the New Zealand Mega which means finding lots of caches and coming here especially to find this one - the whole experience has been fantastic. The weather has also been much nicer than back in Melbourne and that has meant long hours starting early and caching late into the night and not getting much sleep in between. I had spent many hours in the lead up to my arrival in New Zealand preparing an itinerary of caches, solved puzzles and places I wanted to visit and I'm pleased to say I completed just about everything I had planned. For the places I didn't get to visit, well that just means I'm gonna come back. I've seen stunning sights, walked lots of kilometres (and driven even more) met some great people and made new friends which has been awesome.
Thanks PhantasmNZ for bringing me here and for adding to my positive experience.

You giy did a great job setting it all up to add to the atmosphere in the forest. Loved the setup as we came over the hill you did a awesome job and a night cache to remember for a long time, well done!
Following on from the 'Flashing' at Albany event, RuruNZ and I headed out here with the throngs of other cachers. Pity I was stuck in the line where someone behind me kept flicking there lights up on high all the time. That really ^%&^*&^ me off to the point I slowed down some as it was blinding me.
On arrival at the venue however was a different story. RuruNZ had checked and about 40 - 50 had registered will attend logs so where did all these others come from. Good work by the organisers soon had the 'flock' under control and heading out into the night in groups. Ours just happened to have both current and past Guide and Scout Leaders in it so we were semi organised for the majority of the finds along the trail. What an enormous effort went into placing these caches and I sure hope the organising team patted themselves on the back for the way this event went.
Thanks for allowing all of us a 'group FTF' on the caches we did. That has boosted my FTF's up quite a lot this week.
Great end to a great night and a big THANKS once again.

I had an awesome time as the nominated leader of one of the last few groups to do the night caches.
Wow what a site. Torches everywhere,. People huddling, trying to solve the codes. And Aliens!
Thanks for an awesome evening!

Day 2 of Woody & Papa's Mega Adventure. After attending the flashmob we headed out west. After a while I looked in the mirror and turned to Woody and said "Mercy sakes alive, looks like we got us a convoy".
There was lots of standing around to start with and I have to take some responsibility for that by not logging a 'will attend'. This event and the series is a great concept - lots of lights flashing all over the forest - it was a real fun event despite the numbers and the chaos that ensued.
A big thanks to the organisers for putting together such a well themed series.
Third event for the day and another three night caches!!

What an amazing event! It was a little confusing when we first took off, but once we got the hang of it, the end product was well worth it!! Wishing there were more events like this as it was definately a highlight of the Mega!! Thanks so much to PhantasmNZ for putting this event and the caches together! Definately a favourite here!!
Attending the NZ MEGA and what a way to end Day One. An unbelievable number of cachers turned up. Teamed up with some Aucklanders, some Wellingtonians and another Nelsonian. Congratulations to the organisers. Your amazing amount of work and huge effort sure paid off.

After being involved in the one and only ever night time traffic jam in Muriwai, we got here and reported for duty. We headed off in the lead group and bumbled our way through our alien tracking duties, but we tracked down the green dude! Thanks for an awesome evening's entertainment!
Rednuam6 drove myself, MtnLioness and two others (from the US?) out here for this crazy event. What a sight it was, hundreds of people wandering around the sandhills with torches and spotlights, not to mention the aliens.
And of course, the local Police who came investigating...., but all good.
Thanks for the event - fun!

This was an interesting experience with I think more than hundred cachers in the dark, eager to get out for some caches.
12541… Arrived a bit late but managed to tag along with a group of familiar faces, what a sight, so many flickering torchlights. Thanks for an awesome night out, fantastic team work, appreciate the effort in setting up this night caching adventure, definitely gave us the WOW factor.
A really fun night with the atmosphere set up really well with lots of 'extras' to help in the fun. Top marks guys!
What a great event - all four B.L.A.T attended and loved it. The numbers of people didn't really detract, just made it more hillarious and added to the overall spectacle. Coming up into the 'crater' was mind-blowing and really appreciated all the added touches like the glowing eyes that followed us all the way. What a ton of effort an creativity went into this - thanks! We spent the night camping just down the beach at the campground and woke to the sound of surf and had a nice cafe breakfast just to round off the perfect evening. Favourite!

A lot of people a lot of torches and quite a few trips and stumbles along the way. This was actually my first cache done at night specifically meant to be done at night and had some fun along the way. Well set up and great end to a great night. Thanks for the event
Followed the prosession out to Muruwai. It was a packed affair, but still enjoyed it. Teamed up with a few cachers we had not met before. TFTCE
Wow!
Based on the Will Attends and Notes hoping to attend I was expecting about 40 cachers here ... a few more people as some cache as families.
We were part of a line of cache-mobiles making their way from the previous event to here.
Arrived to a carpark full of cars - where had all those come from? (Refreshed cache info in the field - and yes, still less than 40 logs).
Despite the sudden popularity of this event the organisers had things well under control. A few more in the groups heading out than was ideal, but when people don't say they are coming preparations can't be made.
As already discussed with the organisers they did an excellent job of "spicing" up the area for the event. We may have had big groups and not as much "in the dark scari-ness" due to following lines of torches as future finders will have but we also had glimpses of eye along the way, and one of the aliens camps. Very nice touches!
Thanks again.

What a sight, all the torches through the trees, looked like a scene from ET. Fun was had by all, and was the highlight of the weekend for many. Nice work team.
Certainly this night caching adventure was on of the highlights of the whole mega weekend. Many thanks for setting this up and the hard work organising etc!
My night caching normally involves a bit more stealth than this but still a fun adventure in the company of a zillion cachers. Thanks to the team for a fun event, and the opportunity to nab 3 night caches plus an event. Kudos to the organisers for the special effects which drew some oohs and ahhs, especially at the last cache.
Thanks PhantasmNZ

Definitely felt surreal just getting to the event -driving through the dark following a line of red eyes, like a snake winding it's way through the darkness.
This was definitely a highlight of the weekend for me. The extra's added for a magical evening.
I even shook hands with an alien. Thank you for all your efforts. TFTC

What a great event and well done to the people who ran it. A large number of people showed up and the people who ran it did a great job really enjoyed it tftc
We expect to be there too, but have a very early start this morning so might not stay until the end!
So many cachers! Big thanks to the organisers, we could see how much effort went into it.
Before tonight, I had probably found 5 or 6 night caches – but only one of those was actually at night. Unfortunately, sometimes geotrails get made, or the reflectors are large enough to be seen, and the experience isn't quite the same.
That was not the case tonight.
One of the things my partner and I have remarked repeatedly since arriving in New Zealand is that when it gets dark here, it gets REALLY dark. So dark that it's possible you may not be able to see your hand in front of your face. In that kind of darkness, night caching can be a pretty incredible experience.
I had a great night. The stars were brilliant, spread across the canopy above, and the camaraderie of the cachers I met from several different countries made the experience international and personal. And I can't say enough good things about the organizers, who truly put together a series worthy of praise and accolades.
For a foreigner in this strange land, sometimes I feel like the alien. Not tonight. Tonight I was part of a great group of fun-loving, like-minded people. Thank you for putting this event together.

Out for a MEGA day of geocaching with Earthbound Chief & Co. This topped off our night. TFTE and all the effort put into it.
big thank you to steve and everyone else for organising another massive experience at the mega )))))))))))))
A lot of effort gone into this and well done for coping with the HUGE number of people who turned up. Thanks for a great event

Couldn't have had a more perfect night for it. The stars were amazing. A huge amount of work has gone into this series. Well done.
Many thanks
Many thanks
Thank you for a great fun experience. Struggled a bit to find the start point having missed a turnoff whilst using smartphone but got there in the end. At least we only saw aliens at GZ.
Heaps of night fun with a cast of thousands. Thanks to the organisers for a great night.
We, like many others, made the drive to Muriwai for some alien night caching, and sheesh, what an overwhelming response!
Big ups to the team for dealing well with an unexpected (but amazing!) turnout. We decided though, that we wanted the full-on experience of finding these night caches on our own (night caching is fun!), and will definitely be returning to find these glowing creatures at another date.
Thanks for the event cache!

WOW .. out with Team Phasevisitor who figured out all of the logistics. I was the Torch Guy. The effort put into this adventure was mind-boggling ! Outstanding ...
An interesting drive in convoy out to the beach and then more people there than we were expecting. Some great new caches, TFTC
Turned up and admired all the stars, found the group, got sent on our mission and off we went. But eventually we decided that, though there were a lot of scary watchers in the woods, and these military officers telling us that we were heading the wrong way, that there were too many others on this mission and we would come back at another time and solve it ourself. TFT Event, we had fun, even if we did not get the caches...yet. #132
#4762. What a mega night caching adventure ... even starting from the fast convoy getting to the event, with people taking different turnoffs and some coming back in the opposite direction! Huge response to the UFO call. Thanks for the tremendous thinking and team effort that had gone to the preparation. TFTE.
Great night event. Was amazed at the massive turn out. A big thanks for the effort in the set up.
Great time had, for the experience and comraderie. Lots of effort put into this thanks Furbies and team.
WOW! A good drive without so much traffic, and I was able to get from the Flash Mob Event, and one of the first to get here, and then wait for the organisers, who were held up in the ensuing traffic. SO MANY cachers keen on getting out at night - GREAT TO SEE.
While a LOT of organising had been done, it seemed that the Event had been put on Twitter, or some other social media, as there was almost 200 cachers turn up it seemed like. Crowd control was almost a problem.
Another for the Night Caching elective book mark.
Brought through for mileage: 12-12-12 Multi Event - Auckland, New Zealand, 3 Bros, Aust Light Houses, BEAGLE BIXBY, B 2 B ingot, BROWN BEAR 15, Coin of Danmark, CRDAVIS-Scottish Thistle Geocoin, Fishing Bell TB, GoLeo Travel Bug Dog Tag, Iconic Bridges, land rover TB, Lil' Miss TB, cache critters Baa, Neigh Neddy, and Oink, NZ Mega Auckland 2013 Signature Trackable, PAP, Rienan TB, Spooky, steben6's DNF Duo - Super Cacher Geocoin, Trakabulldog geocoins, and trackable shirt.
Thanks for the Event, and well done Phantasm NZ (and team in the background).

Lots of fun at this event. The organisers have gone to a huge amount of effort to make sure we really enjoyed this tonight, thanks to you all
Great night and Great enjoyed stroll, our legs so very worn out by wrong way to walk up the hills... Thanks for it as excellent job... thanks
Great night event.
Very dark... no moonlight!
We managed all the way up there and back here with different group.
Thanks for the effort to set up great event.

Great big event a long way out of town, well organised, though the groups got backed up a couple of times, lol, but thats gonna happen. Loved the whole set up. Aliens and all. Even a wild cat...
First day of the NZ Mega event - a day which saw KiwifruitsNZ aim to secure 7 different caches in a day, whilst at the same time making the most of the Mega event (welcome bingo through to trivia to flashmobs to night caching at Muriwai beach!).
Thank you to Vamber and MuzzaL53 who accompanied us on many of our caches today - some good laughs and amusing stories that will prevail well beyond the event!!!!
This was a great finish to the day. There had obviously been a lot of time put in to organize this event and the organizers should be stoked with the turnout. We will be back to complete the night caches at a later date when there are not so many people!
