Decide to head north today to get away from the miserable Wellington weather. Most of the day was reasonably warm, but occasional rain and strong winds. On the whole the containers were great (2 or 3 inside each other) with dry logs, but the locations were mostly "throw me down" locations with very poor parking (if any) and lots of lunatics in this area driving down side roads at 100km/h+ speeds. Very windy whilst signing this one. T4TC

29-Mar-24
Heading north and I keep the faith that if I try to get a Seagnoid rail cache each road, there will eventually be a time when I start getting close to the set! Anyway great excuse to stretch legs. This one was only going to happen if there was enough pull over room and the traffic was right. Despite busy Easter traffic it all worked well. Once I got the right spot it was a easy find. Thanks the Seagnoid. As with many pretty hard to imagine the railway infrastructure nowadays.

08-Mar-24

I am on my way back to the South Island, stopping every once in a while to grab a cx.

I was slightly disappointed that the caches along here did not have the same hiding technique that I have come to love. TFTC.

14-Nov-22

27-Dec-20
Day 1 of my week long road trip of geocaching, camping and seeing a few bands. Today I left Wellington mid morning and battled the SH1 traffic most of the way, caching as I headed for Wanganui. For the fist time I am using the cachetur.no website and app to plan out my caching, and so far I am liking it.

All good here, TFTC.

12-Sep-20
On our way back home after a weekend attending a meeting in Levin. Heading back to Marton for the night with the aim of picking up as many of the caches on Highway 1, on the left hand side, as we could. Another one Mrs S got out to find and she's getting bit tired now, in and out, in and out, but another smilie on the road is worth the effort.

Thanks the Seagnoid.

08-Aug-20
I was heading for Fielding for the night so decided to get a cache or two nice quick find here today all dry cache is good. TFTC

25-Jul-20
Quick find after today's "Winter Warmer VII (Manawatu)" Meet&Greet event just up the road.

SkyCraneKid (formally known as EtherBoy/EtherLad/EtherEtc) and a friend (PrincessFaery) stayed in the car as we were on the opposite side of the road.

Another ManRail cache down, still far too many to go!
Thanks for the history lesson.

08-Mar-20
On our way back to Whanganui after collecting most of the Shield caches. Still had a bit of time and energy to collect some traditional caches. Busy road. Cache all fine. Thanks

25-Jan-20
First one of 30 caches located today in the Sanson/Ohakea/Bulls vicinity. Worth the special drive up from Wellington! I needed more than 25 to ensure this month’s total breaks my previous monthly record. Almost all quick finds, as was this one. #3127. TFTC.

13-Dec-19
love these railway themed ones

20-Nov-19
Easy to get if you ignore the traffic!

16-Sep-19

We were promised that the last one was the last one for the day but no trayc.g reckons 3 more before dark is on the cards. Us kids groaned. We are ready for dinner! TFTC #62 for the day

03-Aug-19
After spending the day with Trayc.g, GigiEV and Go_Zz hunting for the stickman series, we got a few more on the way home in the Sanson area. TFTC

03-Aug-19
Found with Trayc.g, GigiEV and Juliusfamily. This was one of 10 caches found in Sanson after spending the day finding caches in the Stickman series. Over 60 caches found today. By this time GigiEV and I were ready for dinner but Trayc.g and Juliusfamily wanted a few more. TFTC

03-Aug-19

Found on my trip north enjoying the caches in the area. Weather not so good today

03-Jun-19
Having arrived back from a trip overseas I gave found my sleep patterns are not yet reset to New Zealand time so a little night caching was in order.
Thought I'd try the old spanning two days with the one outing trick by making use of the time of night.

Quick locate even in the dark.
Dropped off a TB all the way from the States.

Cheers.

25-Apr-19

I was travelling from PN to Taihape and back to PN today so needed some caches to break up the journey. I have recently qualified for a nearby challenge so took the opportunity to stop and find this cache also. Quickly found and the container is still in great condition and totally dry. Thanks.

Nice day for a find

06-Jan-19
Having a small car meant we could park almost anywhere, great for places like this. Cache easily located, thanks

29-Dec-18
Day 3 of our New Years trip up to the North Island. This was find #14/100 for the day and #83/526 of our trip.
Today was a numbers run of mostly PnG caches. We started in Palmy and set off to see if we could Spell, then headed up to Bulls and after that rounded up a few Smurfs, Herbs, Airplanes and anything else in the way until we came in to finish the KAS trail we started in Oct 2016.
A nice quick find here and nice and dry too. We left our new signature item here, a Rainbow Beadtail. Thanks for the effort involved in placing and creating this cache for all of us to enjoy. Smile

12-Dec-18
Our third visit to this beautiful country and this time for a family wedding in Tutukaka. After that we will travel south exploring and finding some caches along the way.
Signed and replaced all of them as we found them.
Thanks to the CO's for placing these caches and keeping the game alive.

12-Nov-18
Today was part two of my road trip home to Nelson from Auckland, after picking up my son's "new" car from Napier, taking me from Taihape to Wellington... with time to find a few caches along the way, of course. Another railway cache done and dusted. TFTC, Biggles.

19-Oct-18
Heading to Wellington Mega a day earlier with Squirrel Nutcase and NZ Flossy a day earlier.
Out to collect caches that we have previously passed.
So sorry cache owners, we had a fairly large find today so it's a copy and paste day.
Thanks everyone for their cache placements that we found. SLTFTC

19-Oct-18
WENZ Mega Weekend is almost here... Motoring south today with Gap (of Fap and Gap), and NZFlossy. Our intention is to cache our way to our accommodation in Lower Hutt... The big news of the day is that Highway 1 is closed at Pukerua Bay. A truck crash and chemical spill have shut down all lanes coming to and from Wellington. We have plenty of caches to find to keep us occupied, but this could be a long wait...

Friday: I have been looking forward to this next collection of caches; a sweep south from Sanson, along Highway 1. I am mostly looking forward to the historic railway caches in the Manawatu Rail series... There are still traces of rail infrastructure here... TFTC.

19-Oct-18
On my way to the mega with Squirrel Nutcase and Fap and Gap. Having lots of fun and enjoying the ride and the scenery. It’s what I love about caching - great company and visiting great places. Thanks to all the COs for all their caches Hopefully we see some of them at the mega this weekend TFTC

18-Oct-18
Just a quick log to keep finds, TB visits and / or drop offs in order. Full log to follow once back from Wellington Mega.

18-Oct-18
Find number 4202. On my way to the Mega so stopped for this one. I went the wrong way first up. Then spotted a geotrail. Thanks for the placement

18-Aug-18
I have set myself a goal to get the requirements for the mystery cache The well-rounded cacher challenge (Manawatu) This requires me to get 25 badges 5 of which need to be gemstone badges. So each time I now go out caching weather it is by myself or with fellow cacher I will try to get a least one cache that will get me closer to my goal

Headed out to Sanon today to get a cache for a dot day Unfortunately it started to rain as
I approx Bulls and continued to rain so I got a little wet getting the cache The cache itself was nice and dry

Thanks for the park and grab

29-Jul-18
My bag, jacket, and food have been stolen the day before from the car, but thanks to Popmac I had batteries and some cache to keep myself busy until the flight in the evening. So that's what I did! I decided to find as many as possible with the petrol I had and driving without the driver side window. It did rain and hail some in the morning, but then it cleared up and it was all good except the wind! Thanks for all the caches along the way that helped me keep my sanity Smile TFTC!!

22-Jul-18
Finally got a break in the weather. Had an audience of some beautiful cows who were shouting for us to come back! TFTC

21-Jul-18
Quickly found, log all dry. TFTC

14-Jul-18
This cache had such great parking that Mr 3Prettys was out of the car and had the cache in hand before I had even unbuckled my seat belt! He's not usually so bright-eyed and bushy tailed about container finding, long may it last!
Thank you for the cache and the write up.

11-Jul-18
I took a day off work to do some geocaching up in the Rangitikei area. Mostly to bulk out my numbers for the Hidden Creatures, but to also finish qualifying for a couple of challenge caches, plus a few other geocaching tasks. All good here. TFTC

06-Jul-18
The Hidden Creatures souvenir hunt is already nine days old and I’m still to find my first cache of the necessary 100. Ahh the KAS animal power trail will do nicely.
With my intended route planned I’ve taken a day off work to grab as many as possible before the weather breaks tomorrow.
But first I’ve planned a few along the way. This was one of them...
This was one of the last of the Manawatu rail series I hadn’t previously done, plus one DNF to correct later. TFTC & the series
This was my fifth cache today earning me the Unicorn Hidden Creatures souvenir

27-Jun-18
I'm loving these double cache containers. With our wet climate it sure helps keep the log dry thank you.

20-Apr-18
A bright moment in an otherwise very long day!

I was due to drive to Auckland today after work as I'm on annual leave for a week or so, and had managed to wrangle getting out of work a bit earlier than 5pm meaning that I had an extra hour of daylight to play with.
So how best to use this bonus light? How about grabbing a few caches on my way north!

Seeing as I was travelling along SH1, I figured I'd try to get a few more of this Manawatu Rail series under my belt. As is usually the case with this series, the GPS co-ords are spot on, and reasonably safe parking was able to be had right next to GZ.
I often wonder what other drivers make of someone walking along fencelines on the side of a main highway? Does it even register with them? If I feel I'm being observed, I guess I tend to just apply an air of 'desperately needing a pee'.

A quick find, with the CO's usual trademark 'double container' meaning that everything inside was exactly as it should be. Signed the log and replaced it all exactly as found.

Thanks Tom for the placement, and maintenance, of your caches.

17-Apr-18
a quick find on a busy road, glad i had the scooter so i could park easy, tftc

10-Mar-18
First of the afternoon while in the area to do the Ohakea series
Nice easy find thanks

23-Dec-17
23/12/17 18:45 Another in this series, thanks. Conditions prevailed to pick this up and I needed a leg stretch after sitting for nearly 2 hrs, driving back from Welly town. Isn’t caching great for that? Cheers, GC.

23-Nov-17
Thanks for this series and informative history. Thanks for the placement

31-Mar-17
#3804. I had the day off work so decided I needed another road trip to wrap up a very busy month (of geocaching). I am working on the DGSC challenge and foolishly decided to go for the bulk find elective which needs 1500+ cache finds in the year. But one month needed 300+ finds and I was close enough to that target in March so went for it today to get the remaining 61 caches I needed. So headed north to the tropics. Another one in the rail series. Nice quick find here in an obvious place. Signed logbook and returned cache as found. Thanks for the cache and the interesting history lesson. Enjoying this series.

26-Mar-17
Collected while passing. TFTC

23-Jan-17
#13715. Good to finally find another couple in this series. The long grass was wet, but it didn't take long to get to GZ. TFTC.

23-Jan-17
Day 3 of our North Is trip, and today we are traveling from Lower Hutt to Chateau Tongariro. It was rather drizzly at times, and we had to curtail our caching activities as we are fair weather cachers. Luckily the day ended with fine weather and even better, a view of the top of Mt Ruapehu Cool.
Good to grab another in the Manawatu Rail series. Had to wade carefully through the long wet grass to get to GZ, luckily I was wearing shorts not trousers. TFTC.

18-Jan-17
Visiting from Marlborough, thanks for this series. Managed to grab relatively unseen thanks to longish grass, cache in perfect condition.

25-Dec-16
Quick find after the series on Christmas Day. Road was surprisingly busy. Loved the history lesson about the location. TFTC

19-Nov-16
In the Manawatu for the weekend with some caching buddies- Uncle Sam, NZTravellers, Stik-a-crane. The goal was to find as many of the local caches that we could in the space of a day. We managed to find 206, I think, in the space of 14 hours, with a few bathroom/ coffee breaks and a couple of meal breaks. We all had a blast jumping in and out of the car, racing each other to the caches, and laughing and joking along the way, and in general had an awesome weekend down here.
We really enjoyed this trail, and I particularly thought the guardians of the cache containers were pretty cool!
Woohoo, another Manawatu rail cache found!
Log signed as Team SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) in order to save log space.
TFTC!

19-Nov-16
A group of us were confident this was not going to be like the last cache a DNF as that would have really hindered our goal for today of 200 finds.... and luckily enough this one was found....

Signed in as SEAC to save logbook space.

TFTC.

Razz

19-Nov-16
Our team from Auckland wanted to do a major day of caching, so headed down to Foxton area for a massive day. We got about 205.

Very sorry for the generic logs, but when doing so many in one day very hard to make notes on each.

But a big thank you to all the cache owners for putting out all of the great caches we visited.

Logs signed as either “Team SEAC” or “SEAC” – South East Auckland Crew.

19-Nov-16
Thanks for setting this cache. On our way to Sanson for a well earned coffee, still 12 hours of caching ahead!!

01-Nov-16
Loved the container in a container. Looked brand new. Nice break in the trip to Wellington.

24-Oct-16
I had a bright idea to add this one in when we were close-ish. Funny that we passed others straight outside today and choose to take a longer walk here but that's just the way the penny drops sometimes! TFTC #9482

24-Oct-16
Cool. Thanks Smile.

17-Oct-16
Sanson.
After checking into our accommodation we had lunch & a rest .
In the afternoon we headed out onto the KAZ trail. This was liking a tiki tour of the area around the farming country side.
