Rassilon256 and I each took a side of the gate to search for the cache. I thought that it would be easy but it was quite some time before rassilon256 had the cache in hand. I, meanwhile, on the wrong side just had my fingers in cobwebs. Rassilon256 gets better as the day goes on, while I get worse.

After finishing the Riverview Rd Loop in good time, llama_boy suggested some lunch and a few more caches. The two at Frere's Crossing fit the bill and are also accessed via a road with some nice rocks along the side suitable for sitting in the shade to eat.

Having procured lunch we parked outside the reserve, selected some rocks and proceeded to eat - for llama_boy a nice hamburger, for me a quart of oil disguised as fish and chips and a large but surprisingly nice Dagwood dog. We then took a stroll down to the gate and picked a side each.

Thorough inspections were made on both sides but I came up with the cache this time. A quick signature and we were on our way down to the Crossing and an alien encounter.

Found the green gates and geokids and I searched to the left of the green gate for 10mins. Had zero reception so couldn't check in and refine our search. Will have to go back again and pre download coordinates. I suspect it's very well hidden/camo

Find #491 on streak day #164.
Looking at my map today and wondering what I should go for with the warmer weather we are having. When suddenly A message came through from a geofriend, Sweetmanda, wondering if I was up for a bit of a bush walk. How could I say no to nice weather, nature and good company. As well as a cheeky cache! Wink We parked the geombile at the end of the road and headed on down the track, coming up to this one before I knew it. My GPS seemed to be taking me in circle in a particular vicinity, so I put it way and started. Looking at the most stand out areas, I was having no luck, but as I expanded my seach and became a bit braver I had CIH and was able to complete signing duties, then replace. The cache and contents are in good condition here. Now, on with our journey. TFTC Benjamin(13)!

This reminded me of the time I camped here many years ago. We walked from Leumeah station and this was really in the middle of nowhere.

It looks really dry here so some rain in the next few days will be appreciated. An easy find after a short walk in the evening.

I've been to this cache before but being a local, I was tempted back to pick up a geocoin that I hoped was still there. Luck was in so it is now in my possession. I still love this area; I feel privileged to live nearby.

I have been working my way along the Georges River looking for caches over the last few weeks and this is another great spot that most would not normally visit. An easy walk down to the river to find the remains of the old bridge. I keep looking out for the Koalas along the river but no luck so far. TFTC.

26-Mar-15
We were only using my phone and it wasnt being very nice jumping around a lot. At the gates we just expanded our search until Salem found the cache. Tftc

26-Mar-15
Not too hard at all. The phone was playing up which added to the fun of looking almost blind for the cache. In no time at all the log was signed and we were off. Looking for the next one down the track Smile tftc

Found by the Geoeagles. We then headed off towards the river and an attempt to also find AO#3 - Roswell. Discovered a very pleasant part of the Georges River where the road once crossed and where a causeway over a natural rock causeway exists. After giving up on the search for AO#3 - Roswell we headed back up the hill and were caught in a thunderstorm and were all soaked by the time we got back to the car. Thanks Benjamin(13) for this cache - as it lead us to this special place on the edge of Cambelltown.

A surprise find. I was walking to the river and remembered there was a cache somewhere near the green gate. I had a very rough idea from memory so fossicked around for a minute or two unsuccessfully before geowife moved something and lo and behold. Geosister (vanguard101) kicked off her geocaching life with her first find as well. Thanks Benjamin 13, a lucky but a good one.

We were down this way to collect the car after it stop on the freeway and the car company would only tow it to the nearest dealer. So after picking up the car it was time to make some finds. This one looked like a nice area so headed over. Easy enough walk in and got to a spot that looked like it had been searched before and we soon found the hide. We completed the signing duties and re hid, TFTC

I've been down past the GREEN gates many times now, mostly to find geocaches.
Stopped at the GREEN gates and searched a bit. Then searched a bit more... and there it was, right near the GREEN gates.

p.s. - The gates are GREEN!

Thanks.

Took a while to find, funnily enough, I moved the cammo, but did not spot if because of the secondary cammo.

Moisture will get into this container and with no ziplock on the logbook, will cause the logbook to go mouldy when it does rain.

How good are Pi's cache logs. I love reading them. I learn so much about the area that I had no idea about!

Thanks for this cache. Usually bush caches are so copiously camouflaged they stand out. This one is so subtle I almost missed it!

Thanks again. Got me out of the house and I needed that. Cache on!

24-Oct-13
A find after another long hot day.
Took a souvenir for swaps.

24-Oct-13
Found by Pi.

It was such a nice day that I decided to walk over from home. Left home and dropped into Peter Meadows Ck and followed the tracks and trails till I popped out at the end of Boronia Rd. Crossed Georges River Rd and onto Freres Rd.Very pleasant 4-5km walk, only problem was I also had to walk home.

Even though the clue was very descriptive I managed to miss the cache on my first sweep. Pulled the GPSr out and had to wait for it to warm up before it confirmed I was in the right spot. A second look and bingo, how did I miss that the first time around. Signed the log and just as I was writing a note in the logbook my pen died. So if my message seems strangely incomplete it was the pen not me. A bunch of muggles, who had been swimming down at the crossing, just happened to be walking past me as I was trying to hide the cache. Managed to get the cache hidden before they got too close. Cache done it was time to enjoy the walk home.

The history of the green gates. Many, many, many years ago when I was a kid you could drive all the way down to the crossing and park at the bottom. On busy days sometimes you had to park a fair way back up the hill. On busy days we would walk about 500m downstream from the crossing to a very quiet swimming spot. The asphalt car park that you pass just before the lower gate was just a few spots in the bush where people who wanted to go for a swim down at the elbow parked.
It was like this for many years before council decided to install the first set of gates (the cache gates). They also put in the asphalt car park. Unfortunately the area was being abused and it wasn't that long before the road was closed off completely. The asphalt car park was also popular for nocturnal activities (wink, wink). So now you have to walk all the way from the top to get to the crossing. There are some photos in the local history museum of the bridge that was down at the crossing.
Before the army took over the area the other side of the river was used for fruit and grape growing. George Pierre Frere was an interesting character but if you want to read about some really interesting characters do some research on Frank and Harry Etchells.
Not far from the cache are some concrete foundations. These are apparently the foundations from a sawmill. This side of the river was for many years used for timber getting. Sleepy old Kentlyn has an interesting history.

TNLNSL.

TFTC,
Michael (GPS).
